We call this flipping the rod into the puddle.. it does give better control than just running over the rod ( which you still have to push into or pull out of the puddle once in a while..to get a perfect weld on the inside of the pipe..
I just subscribed, I’m gonna start going to school for eel soon, combination welder, kind nervous lol but I’m trying to watch and learn as much before I actually start
Hes welding on the top so theres a lower chanve of suck back. Oftentimes this is a better method to use than laywire because it allows you to guarantee sufficient penetration because you can see the bevel tips melt, and dipping gives you better control over the amount of metal being deposited. Also dabbing wont introduce any contamination as long as you don't move the rod away from the gas shielding. I prefer to backfeed roots on the bottom and dab on the sides near the rop, but on a tighter gap like this where you cant fit the rod into the pipe dabbing like this works well.
@@elliottarpin8191 yea I know I’m 15 year Union Boilermaker living in nuke most the time. Dipping is a bad habit, anytime. It’s not allowed unless necessary, which is rare. It’s not even taught anymore in my trade. It’s stays in the puddle and that’s it.

Travis is so slick
That weld just made my piston tickle
* great technique and the arc shots are next level*
Honestly my saying is if you can throw a beautiful root pass , the kids are gonna get their lil happy meals
Crisp and Clean!!!!!!
I don't like how duplex welds. Watery and hazy. Feels like I'm having voids but X ray is good.
Travis is a badass🤙🏼

You didn't show the root
Because it didn’t break down
Turn it up to 180
Looks good. They allow you to dip the rod, suck back? Lay wire? Contamination if you accidentally pull rod from gas?
Noob 😂

@@johnschmidt2964 dipping is acceptable, just have to keep it in the shielding gas
You’re badass no doubt but I wanted to see the inside of this one.
Translate to Tamil sir
Are you going downhill?
Nice
Man i tried this technique today, and its HARD.
Im pretty good with TIG, Mig and SMAW, but welding thick pipe is still extremely hard to do.
No imposible..!
How is welding thick pipe harder iyo? I’ve always worked with thick material and struggle with thinner one because of it.
Nice bench weld in flat bruh 🫡
