In my experience, even with shipping from multiple warehouses, Rockauto saves me a lot of money. But, like others have said, I buy top-quality parts. I have had many orders with RA and have yet to have a real problem. Only annoyance I’ve had is that they sometimes will beat their shipping time estimate and items arrive too soon for me (I try to time it since I travel A LOT). Most would not be annoyed by that and even in my case it is easily handled by opening a FedEx account so you can manage your deliveries.

I have used Rockauto for 20 years. They have gone down hill recently. I order parts for 3 cars to last me for a year. I do not get to the parts right away. When I tried to install cabin air filters, they did not fit. I checked my information, it was correct. They shipped the wrong parts. I tried going through their order return, through my account. They will not exchange the parts, over 30 days. You can not call them. No way to email customer service. I am now stuck with parts that do not fit. I will not use them again. Beware.

I have been a Rock Auto customer for over 10 years. Just bought over $1500 of parts last week from Rock Auto. Number of problems in ten years: One, they shipped the wrong wiper blades about 7 years ago due to the catalog listing being wrong. Replaced immediately and they told me to keep the wrong blades as it was too much trouble to issue a return (i.e., return would cost as much as the blades were worth). Note that when buying from Rock Auto I: 1) never purchase the cheap no-name or low brand parts as I plan to keep my vehicles for a long time to come; 2) always check shipping rates. I have had instances where breaking an order into two shipments has reduced shipping costs. I have also changed from one trusted brand to a different trusted brand to get the parts to ship from the same warehouse and reduce shipping costs.
My advice to the person in this video is that you should purchase all of your parts locally and then you can post a video complaining about the local supplier when they provide you a box with a an oil stain on the box or tape on the box.

Been to Rock Auto twice. First time just an out side mirror. Second time a CV joint. It came with no strap on the boot. WTF? So i went and got a strap and put it on. I then jacked my car up and the old cv came out in two pieces. Then the new one wouldnt go in the tranny. I couldnt put it together to go to a garage, so i had to pay a $75 tow because it had to be a flat bed. The garage coudlnt get the new cv on, they had to order another and install it. Only another $150. Rock Auto argued with me for a month before they sent me a "link" for a return shipping lable. Then told me only 50% return. Ill never use those jack leg rip offs again.

This video is pretty spot on. I’ve been dealing with this for the last few years. Rockauto recently sent me an email stating they were refusing my refund on an $8 brake hose (out of a $900 order) that clearly didn’t fit. There reasoning was that I had an 8% return rate which was higher than normal. Mind you I’ve purchased thousands of dollars in parts from them and usually only return smaller items like brake hoses or motor mounts that don’t fit right. I literally just called my credit card company and put a partial stop payment in the amount of hose plus shipping, kept the hose and sent an email back politely asking Jeff (one who emailed me) to suck it.

They tell you that you have an 8% return rate. You tell them it is because they have an 8% error rate on correct parts shipped (sounds like they have the same people working for them that are employed at my local fast food drive thru restaurants haha). Good job with calling the credit card company. It is a good reminder for all of us to use a credit card instead of a debit card when making purchases like this. Credit cards have more consumer protection built into them. I have not had a problem with RockAuto yet, but didn't know their customer service was so bad when there is an issue until I started reading some of these stories.

This video was very relatable to me. I order parts from Rockauto all the time. It’s hit or miss with them. Some parts fit some don’t. I also notice they have different selections of brands of parts to choose from. Sometimes they do sell Mopar parts for certain vehicles. I usually don’t pass up buying Mopar parts from Rockauto because compared to buying from the dealer you win all the time. I also like to buy AC Delco & Moog parts from them as well. Other parts I like to buy from them are brake parts and components as you explained in your video (Powerstop), light bulbs, and a few other parts. I can def relate to experiencing buying parts that come damaged, don’t fit, or just getting the completely wrong part. And yes it is an absolute pain in the azz especially with the time it takes for them to ship and then shipping back. I don’t like that you have to pay to ship things back! I don’t like the fact that they don’t have a customer service phone number as well. There’s literally no way to speak to a live person over the phone who can help you out. However, since I’ve been working on cars, Rockauto has been my main go to despite the various mishaps. But for the most part I’ve had good experiences over bad. But that’s prob only because I usually buy the better name brand parts and I stay away from the cheaper brand parts. I always assume it’s cheap for a reason and you get what you pay for. Thanks for informing us about Parts Geek and 1A auto, never thought about using them but I’ll def check them out and see what it do. Really appreciate this video because I’ve always heard mixed reviews about whether to buy from Rockauto or not, great video sir!

I get what your saying Bryan it can and is a bad deal when defected part shows up or just wrong part. I have been ordering from Rock for over 15 years and have only had two problems, which were taken care of by Rock. The one issues just happen but was not Rock fault as it was Dorman not packing its part in proper matter. I receive replacement part in 3 days, which was still packaged wrong. order a different brand and all good. Rock buys a lot of close out parts and in your case with the shock I believe it to be just very old stock, which does not make it any better and it sucks. I just purchase the very same shock and no problem with it. Thank you for the heads up on this.

Our shop has been buying more than $20k of parts every year from them for more than 10 years. In the last 6 months, we've had more problems with substandard packaging fails, shipping time estimate fails, defective/unusable part fails, and "misboxed" part fails than in the previous 10 years combined. It seems that as their level of tv advertising goes up, the quality of their parts and service goes down. Now, it's gotten to the point where we're actively looking for an alternative to replace Rockauto. When you can't even talk to someone anymore to discuss their scewups/problems, it's time to move on.

Rock Auto sold me some parts that we found one that was a defective part. This was my first experience with them. So, I go online to find a customer service number to call, No Number😳. I then find out that I had to use their automated help desk, ok I’m thinking 🤔. I fill out this questionnaire completely to then get a message that the part is not returnable, what!! Scam is this. The site clearly states that they honor manufacturers warranty so what’s the issue with a one week old turnaround part that only needs a replacement under some warranty. They haven’t given any help guys, so stay away if you don’t want to get burned

    • @rickybobby7276
      @rickybobby7276 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

So what you are telling me is that you purchased from a bad brand who didn't reasonably honor their manufacturer warranty? Most warranties are scam especially from the cheap brands. I'll give you a perfect example of how a warranty should work and anything that doesn't work this way is a bullshit scam.
I buy a torque wrench from Amazon. It doesn't work so I contact the manufacturer directly on their website. They reply back in one day (on a holiday mind you) and tell me they will warranty the part. I get it the same week 3 days later. New part works great. I don't give a shit about the reseller, because the manufacturer honored their warranty. Why is it the resellers problem if the manufacturer gave you something defective if the reseller gave you the proper item from the manufacturer? That's like getting pissed at UPS, because somebody packs the wrong part.

It came out that there was going to be multiple warehouses filling this order and it displayed what items where coming from what warehouse. So I removed some non needed items and it shifted stuff around so there was still multiple warehouses involved. So now I know that many items are available from multiple warehouses but I don’t get to select where each is coming from. I think I eventually removed most, if not all, of the unneeded items to get it down to 2 warehouses. What a joke that was.

    • @jackfox5738
      @jackfox5738 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's the thing, you would have to change the brand of whatever your purchasing, but this is not a valid complaint. If I were to sit down and explain it to you, maybe you would see wherever it is that you are an error, it's just that you're absolutely wrong on this one. With that being said I'm super pissed off today because they sent me a Denso part inside of a Motorcraft box, which it was obvious it was returned by someone before because it had Scotch tape on it that was then cut, meaning that when it was returned somebody at these warehouses inspected it, and they saw the ripped open baggie on the inside and looked at it but didn't understand that Denso is a different brand name than motorcraft. I've been to one of these warehouses in a capital city where I had the chance of saving return shipping of $7, and returned something and I realized it was a giant Warehouse it was like, almost half a mile long, and there must be 25 different companies worth of stock of different things like next to the automotive stuff, it was a bunch of party supplies. And so these aren't Rock Auto Workers that are picking stuff. The pickers pick for every company, they simply get a printout on this big table out of a printer and the next picker takes it and off they go with a cart to get everything bring it back, box it and label it. Because you don't have to be knowledgeable about things when you're just picking stuff off a shelf. But that's what causes the issues and it's what causes people to be able to scam Rock Auto by buying the part they want and putting a cheap part back in the box and returning it, and the real victim ends up being the next Consumer that purchases the part and they throw back that returned one that somebody was scamming. I mean, RockAuto loses too so it's creating an extra victim really. But yeah, the whole thing about them trying to scam you on shipping is invalid. Whatever your experience was, it didn't have to be that way if you new about their shipping system

@@jackfox5738 … it’s possible that things have changed since I placed that order I was describing and I assure you I did not change brands. When I deleted all the stuff from one of the three warehouses to get it down to two, crap would get shifted around and I would still have three warehouses. I don’t know that this is a scam but it is BS. As I said I eventually deleted enough stuff that it was shipped from only two warehouses. Multiple items were available from multiple locations and their system had no interest in keeping my shipping costs down and I really have no idea why.

Another issue with Rock Auto is you only get a 1 or 2 year warranty. Most local store parts have lifetime warranty. I went local for a radiator after I discovered a leak on my Rock Auto 1 year radiator at 13 months! I paid double on that one locally but if it ever leaks, I get a new one for free! Also, if you order a part, don't wait until later to replace it. I bought a timing chain set for Ford FE390 in September but didn't get to it until mid November. Crank sprocket was incorrect but was past 30 day return policy. I did research and other vendors including part manufacture said the set was for the big truck engines - the 391's and 330's. Rock Auto wouldn't budge and said that's what manufacturer recommends. I figured the $35 + shipping wasn't worth going to court although it might be worth someone for justice sake!

I worked in the auto parts industry for over 20 years . Trust all parts stores resale the parts people return if possible. Rock auto is going to be cheaper than a box store . They don’t have the overhead. But when you have a problem with the part box stores easier to deal with .

Loaded front shocks for my 09 Escape and 2010 F150 came damaged, and the boxes were destroyed (not a FedEx or UPS issue). Parts were loose and went through the box. They did replace, but it delayed my repairs and took time to deal with who was to blame.

The good thing about Rock Auto and places like them is that they send the same exact part for much less. But there is more risk involved, as happens anytime we try to save some money.
Do it yourselfers still come out way ahead, even with minor issues.

Rockauto. Where a quality part is sold at steep discounts because you pay it all on shipping. I've stopped using them. It's just a shell game at this point. For a few dollars more you can get a local part and be able to walk it back. Rockauto is putting themselves out of business as more and more people catch on. Try changing items in your cart sometime, and you'll see the warehouses magically change along with it, despite the part not changing. One way or another they're going to squeeze you for every dime they can. And no customer service? No thanks.
And don't forget Bryan. They have ZERO physically inventory. They're just a middleman. So every order has different suppliers. It could literally be three different suppliers on the same order. It's not really them packaging it up. It's just some random warehouse distributor.

The issue is that their now biggest warehouse (United Auto Supply in Syracuse NY) is THE WORST. RA’s customer service is stellar but like the video creator said, you waste a lot of time having to take parts back off of the car, package it up, drive and waste your gas and time standing in lines to ship stuff back. I just bought all the rear brake oem components for my vehicle that was 250-300$. You get what you pay for. OEM/factory is always best for quality & longevity in my opinion. If oem is too much then the acdelco professional line is usually the next best thing. I only use gm approved parts on my vehicles & never have or had a problem. I hoped everything worked out for you all in all.

I'm still running all the parts I installed in this video with no problems and save myself a few bucks. Wow wild to see mixed comments on the matter! I use RockAuto almost exclusively since it’s a bit cheaper and hard to source parts can normally be listed in the site. I don’t think RA sells their own brand of parts. They are just an interface to buy parts from multiple manufacturers. I like WVE brand myself, otherwise I’ll try to go with motorcraft if not too expensive. If possible call out the manufacturer so we know what brand to stay away from when searching around on RockAuto. I’ve heard Moog’s quality has declined over the years so it’s best to stay away from buying those parts. SMP seems okay, though others advise to avoid the “T” lineup. Dorman, AC Delco, KYB, Raybesto, and more as they give you access to over 300 manufacturers parts. No customer service is a bit frustrating but the returns process has always been simple and smooth so far. Take your time and carefully review the parts you are looking at.

The lower BJ stud was also way too long and the castle nut would not line up with the cotter pin hole smh. Can't get a refund because I threw the boxes away and never expected this problem. Paid a mere 30.00 for the 4 cheap ones, reordered Moog BJs for 133.00 for all 4. Stay away from the cheap suspension and steering parts from Rock Auto, at least for Jeeps.

Makes sense, you get what you pay for,, you be cheap with your parts, you'll get cheap parts in return. Common sense

Only use Spicer balljoints and ujoints on jeeps. Moog is trash. They sell balljoints for TJ wranglers that dont even fit. Tells you all you need to know right there.

Yeah when you're pushed for time and you order a front end suspension kit and they send you two left sides and no right side that really screws things up on that hurts

Bad experience with rock auto 2005 Honda pilot AC system was good just the windings for the clutch went bad ordered compressor from rock auto put it on and the clutch was bad started smoking because orifice tube and dryer was not ordered. They would not give us a good one in return When the one they sent was bad from the get-go so I figured I’m out $200 now trying to salvage the situation I took the compressor apart from rock auto the snap ring that supposed to hold. The windings in place was not properly installed, and the internals of the compressor were totally crapped out, I checked the ohms reading from the one from rock auto was able to use the clutch off the rock auto compressor and put onto my good old one that the compressor part still worked, but the crappy part about rock auto is there’s not a human being to talk to so you can explain the situation to That is very shitty on their end. I most definitely would never buy an AC compressor from rock auto again.

It's usually wise to stay away from the cheapest parts regardless of online or at napa type stores.
I even went to the mid level and had an outer tierod end fail safety less than 2 months later, and it was dangerously sloppy too. At the same time they did a new control arm for bad bushings, and once he put the new tierod end on, found there was a small amount of play in the new ball joint too that he didn't notice because of the tre failing.
Looks like all parts these days are just absolutely garbage now.

Rockauto doesn't make parts just reseller, lifetime warranty is in fact none - you need ship back. If you find any parts of poor quality, you should complain specific mfg, if price is no good you can get rid of. Heavy parts of course is expensive you can go local or ebay. In short, what you can complain is its service. I do think you are correct for Rockauto shipped to you leak returned parts - this just waster both you and their time. I appreciate your video thanks! If you want claim lifetime warranty you get to go locals!

I agree. But it was a little late for me to do that I ended up screwed. But I learned a lesson, stay away from RA. After ordering a fuel tank, I told them exactly which one of the 4, I wanted the painted one, and of course billed me ahead of time and a week and a half later I started complaining... and all i could get was automated messages saying, send it back and we'll be happy to reimburse you for the price of the tank.
That doesn't cut it. I received a tank dented in on one side, not painted, AND stamped in large font, made in Taiwan.
I'm done...no more Rock cold auto

Something as big as a fuel tank, sending it back could cost you probably twice the price of the tank in the first place in shipping! Brilliant business plan RockAuto!!

Rock Auto is a drop shipper. Every part they sell is a part that an Auto Parts store sells or used to sell. It's not Amazon where Johnny big dick is intentionally selling counterfeit OEM parts. EVERYONE knows RA is not a good source for a repair shop. Their prices 9.5 times out of ten are SIGNIFICANTLY less than the local big chain stores we all have in our area. I've received damaged parts from them and it cost me nothing but a trip to the shipper to return and RA would next day out a replacement.

I strongly suspect RA is buying 2nds from companies that have production errors.
I used to buy from them. a few years ago I noticed some of the name brand stuff was not right.
I had some sway bar link bushings, for example, Moog, that seemed fine but within about 6 months and about 300 miles of light street driving, in an area that rarley sees temps below 40 or above 70 the bushings were rotted out.
They have become too suspect in their quality control.
Spend extra money where you need to but don't expect something to be quality just because its expensive. Read reviews. Consider how much effort it takes to install something.

So far so good I've always used them and no issues at all. But I've only used them a handful of times.
Sometimes it could be the warehouses they are using near you, they could be a quality control issue at those warehouses. Maybe Rock auto needs to address that with the warehouses that ship to you?

Rock Auto just shipped me previously returned junk, too. I ordered a SMP ignition coil, and when I received it, one of the terminals was cracked and it had a Monro Muffler sticker on the box! They gave me a refund in a few days, but seems like a pretty shady operation in my opinion.

Guys swear by them and said I couldn’t math because I said you weren’t saving much money if at all to talk them up like they the holy grail of auto parts. I priced them with specific parts I can directly compare locally and the savings was MAYBE a couple dollars if that. I would rather have a physical store to take the parts too if I had problems. Some people are weird…

Rock Auto is horrible. Absolutely horrible!
I have ordered three headlights from Rock Auto, the first two were not assembled correctly so I had to pay their ridiculous fee to ship it back, roughly $90.00 (not my fault for your faulty product) I want to be refunded.
So I ordered another light and upgraded by roughly an additional $400.00 to hopefully ensure the product would not be faulty/improperly put together. I received the third headlight today September 13,2023 and it’s missing all the electrical, it’s only a shell, all this for over a $1000!
This was not in the description!!
The description and the picture clearly stated a fully assembled headlight assembly with adaptive headlight control, why would the first two RockAuto sent have all the parts at $600 but the third one at $1000 doesn't?!! And why would I purchase it?
Rock Auto clearly sent the wrong product and are expecting me to pay roughly $90 (again) to ship the wrong product they sent back to them.
Their service attendant said it was my fault! And closed the ticket.
My fault? Unbelievable, RockAuto is disgusting in every sense of the term.
They owe me close to $180 in shipping costs.
Go anywhere else, I mean anywhere, even if it’s a tad more expensive, you’ll thank yourself.
