Fun things, 1 NSE in NSEA stands for Not Starship Enterprise. Gwen's comment about her TV guide interview happened to Jeri Ryan. There are stories of William Shatner being bad mouthed at conventions for the way that he treats his castmates both living and now Departed. And that Sir Patrick Stewart thought that this was just ripping on Star Trek fans and it took Jonathan Frakes to convince him to go and see it in a crowded movie theatre and Sir Patrick absolutely loved the film

    "Never give up. Never surrender."
Fun Fact: Tim Allen admitted that he was quite star-struck when he met Sigourney Weaver, as he's a huge fan of Alien (1979). Allen even asked Weaver to sign some of his Alien Franchise memorabilia between takes. She ultimately did.
Expanded Role Fact: Laliari is the first main role Missi Pyle landed in a feature film. Her role was expanded after the producers noticed Sigourney Weaver was the only female main character.
Red Shirt Lives Fact: Despite frequent whining about his character Crewman Number Six being expendable and going to die, Guy Fleegman (Sam Rockwell) is the only crew member not to be shot and killed by Sarris (Robin Sachs) during his surprise assault towards the end.

So Fred's character is constantly spaced out because he is high as a kite. In a deleted scene they show him smoking some weed early on in the movie so the entire time he is in space he's stoned out of his mind.

This movie was a wonderful love letter to fans. The fans were the heroes of the story. It's much better if you're a Star Trek fan...many people consider it one of the top three "Star Trek" movies.

Fun fact. When Sigourney Weaver first sees the chompers, she says "Well fuck that!". Dreamworks wanted the film to be rated 'R' for general release, so she dubbed in the line "Well screw that" in post, but if you read her lips you can see her saying the original line.

    • @isaackellogg3493
      @isaackellogg3493 ปีที่แล้ว

They actually wanted it rated PG (“parental guidance suggested”), not R (“restricted”). G by the way is for “general audiences.” Showing the tops of Sigourney’s boobs qualified it for a PG rating, helped by the violence. R would limit the audience and make them less money. If she had said “fuck,” that would have guaranteed them an R.
You seem unfamiliar with how the movie rating system works, so I’ll assume you’re either not an American or else born since the year 2003, after which what was acceptable in movies began to decline, to the point where saying “fuck” in a movie does not guarantee an R. In either case, welcome to the movie!😀

This was mostly geared toward the original tv show. Being a kid in the US in the late 70s and early 80s, that tv show was on after school almost every year. So I got quite acquainted with all the episodes. So when I watched this on a wim when a new release on HBO (had no clue about this movie) I quickly understood what it was referencing. I laughed so hard, it was great. I'm both a casual trekkie and star wars fan.

30:29 The reason you’d have that in your ship is, the chompers are the back end of a machine that is doing vital functions for the ship. Every moving-parts machine has a danger zone where hands and fingers and even arms and legs are at risk for grievous bodily harm. So Health and Safety requires cover plates and venting spaces to be included in the design of every such machine.
Since these spaces are both dangerous and tucked away, they are not used as corridors for transport of people, equipment, or cargo. And since they run the length of the machines, which often run the length of the ship (a good example would be driveshafts, the chompers could be the arse ends of propeller or turbine blades), they can be a sneaky emergency passage if there’s no other, safer route to your destination.

This is basically a perfect movie, and it only becomes more perfect every time you watch it. Klaatu (Nebula) is the name of the alien who visits Earth in the classic sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). A thermion is an electronic musical instrument that was used for the soundtrack of the film Forbidden Planet (1956), another classic sci-fi film. Guy is the only crew member who does not get shot by Serris at the end of the film.

"Galaxy Quest": The best "Star Trek" movie that Paramount didn't make. Sigourney Weaver only agreed to do this movie as a Blonde. She felt her "IQ level dropping" every time she wore it, all the way home. This movie goes from comic to dramatic and back without effort. As an old "Star Trek" fan from the late 1960's, this was a great trip of a movie. As I recall, the premise was: What if the actors "weren't pretending" and had to "do it for real?" (How would Marion Morrison react if transported to the real "sands of Iwo Jima"?) Sigourney Weaver wasn't in "Star Trek," but the "scantily-clad, green-skinned Orion slave girls" were a thing, especially in "The Cage" pilot episode. (Dubbed "too cerebral" by NBC TV execs, it was turned into a 2 part episode, "The Menagerie.") See "Star Trek" TV episodes if you want, but you "got the gags" without having done that first.

It's a really beautiful and honest ribbing of the Trek community. Most of those actors were just looking for work, and only a few of them became hardcore space nerds. The rest just really liked being liked, as anyone does.

I had a friend who went to a StarCon and tried to get an autograph from William Shatner, but Shatner apparently didn’t (or at least wouldn’t that year) give out autographs. So my friend went to the next table over, where Leonard Nimoy was happily signing autographs. When my friend got to the front of the line, Nimoy asked him what he wanted him to write. He asked for “To Amos Miller, from William Shatner.” Kind of insulting, but Nimoy was a good sport. So now my friend has an autograph of William Shatner, In Leonard Nimoy’s handwriting.

Just found you today! I’m so happy you watched this one, and even happier that you enjoyed it so much. When you watch again, watch with the knowledge that Fred is high the entire movie. That’s why he’s so laid back, talks slow and constantly munching. Guy even asks him at one point, “Are you high?” In order to get the rating they wanted they had to remove all references to marijuana . You may also notice when Gwen and Jason run into the flames and smashing things….. you hear, “Well screw that!” Read her lips, that’s not what she said. Lol it’s really funny, this movie was the first time I realized that Tim Allen is actually a really good looking man.

When shown the script, Tony Shalhoub (Tech Sergeant Chen) said, “No. Absolutely not! I will not play an Asian character. But…I will play a non-Asian character who is _playing_ an Asian character.”😂
So when the Dalmatians recognize Fred Kwan as Tech Sergeant Chen, Tony squints his eyes to appear “Asian.”
Terminology note: In America, “Asian” means Chinese/Japanese/Korean, very occasionally Vietnamese, Laotian, or Thai. I understand the term means something different in the UK, usually India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka.
I saw a tv show where they were looking for a suspect who was Asian, but ignored the Indian character, because of course Indians aren’t Asian.

If you have any interest in checking out Star Trek I can’t recommend Deep Space 9 enough. It’s like a modern show with running plot lines and continuity and all that, unlike some other trek shows that are all “planet of the week”. That’s not to say anything by bad about next generation, I just find that modern viewers tend to jive better with DS9.
And hey if you like it you have all but infinite reaction fodder.

Hey, just fyi, Star Trek has a huge back catalogue, and you'll drown in options if you just go looking.
The new movies that start in 2009, with Zachary Quinton, Chris Pine, and Karl Urban as the core trio, are a great place to start. They really maintain the original vision of the creator, Gene Roddenberry, but update the production and refresh the story quite cleverly. And they really make the crew into a believable team, even more than the original.
The central cores of the Trek Universe are the post-capitalism Human/Alien civilization, where there is no want, poverty, deprivation, or war. Technology has allowed for the digital creation of simple material items -- anything, like food, clothes, furniture, etc. -- at the push of a button, or nearly as easily in the earlier history of that world. We have ventured into space having developed warp drive, and have met alien races, among them the Vulcans who helped found The Federation of Planets. Vulcans believe in a religion that centers on logic and internal psychology to the exclusion of most emotion and all extreme emotion.
The series which hold up best are probably The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, which were sister shows with frequent crossovers. The original series has a few great episodes of real sci-fi, a few nominated for Emmy Awards, one that won. It also has some terrible scripts, just horrible and cringy. The first season of The Next Generation has a few, too. Every series has its loyal fans. The earlier movies won't make much sense if you aren't familiar with the series first.
The new series have had some favorable reviews. I believe Discovery, and New Frontiers are the two that would be most accessible to a new fan, though I have not been able to watch them yet.
    Hope that helps.

  • @jamesjones7526

When Sarris says, "prepare a tear harness for the female," it implies that the concepts of male and female are universal, even for completely separate lines of evolution. I read a scientific argument for that very thing in a book several decades ago.
