tip: you can run "ujust regenerate-grub" to get the windows option added to grub if it is not already there (it is there in the video but i am mentioning it in case it is not there for someone following along with the video), and since the steamdeck controller is in lizard mode (desktop fallback mode) while in grub, you can select the option there using the joystick (maybe the dpad too) and use A as enter and B as esc. Only the steamdeck can navigate grub :)
My recommendation for anyone trying to repeat this is to change the size of the partitions as you are installing Windows, instead of resizing after the fact. If you set custom size instead of automatically using all the space when Windows is selecting the drive, you don't have to deal with that extra partition at the end of the disk. When installing Bazzite, make sure to create the extra EFI partition along with Boot and root. Each OS install should get its own EFI partition, so there is no conflicts when doing upgrades and such.
I decided to do this because the Windows install was old and couldn't be resized without jumping through a bunch of other hoops. If you are moving from a LeGo or similar, and have a bunch of steam games installed it also makes it easier to free up that space anyway.
I think the bazzite team changed something with the USB configuration, because the installer only worked for me if i left the USB config to XHCI. Just giving a heads up for those that are going to use this tutorial.
interesting, im a linux daily driver and all the games i play work flawlessly in linux but i use fedora always wanted fedora on the deck, i use to use arch rather fedora.
Yeah, Linux compatibility is growing each day it seems and I'm thrilled! There's certain scenarios where Windows is still needed and it basically comes down to anti-cheat. I don't really play many games that need it for that, but I grew up on Windows so I tend to gravitate towards it when I run into incompatibility problems in Linux.
@@SpiceVader as for me the growing issues of Windows have finally pushed me away 3 years ago and I could take it no longer when my productivity went down to drain because of the stupid changes Microsoft did to the OS making my job super tedious. I literally only need two apps in Windows why I have a partition to even begin with and I'm already in the midst of using a replacement so soon that would be gone. As I said earlier luckily for me I don't play any games that need those crazy anti cheats as I don't have interest in them. And ask for the ratio of which games work all 142 of my steam library works just fine in Linux. As of 3 years ago when I first started like 10 of them didn't work and then as time went on updates fix them. I'm very happy with Linux and I don't see myself ever going back to Windows. But thanks to the steam deck Linux has becoming more normalized.
I was under the impression that dual boot was working better with bazzite in general and should carryover to the steam deck. Also I wanted a reason to check out bazzite so I had an excuse to do it. I left my previous 256GB SteamOS drive alone so if it doesn't work out I can go back pretty easily.
Does this still work with the latest windows security update? I saw online that there has been some issues. My 1tb Steamdeck OLED will be here this week, can't wait.
I have problem during install bazzite. Dont working keyboard, i dont type while install . Any idea? I tryied 2 usb c dock with usb dongle keyboard and wired keyboard..
Dual booting works they just haven't updated the page about it for some reason. I've been dual booting for a while now because of literally only one game i play not working on Linux
No I got lucky. Ive shaved the paint off of an SD card, but I figure it's a good warning in general as I've seen a few people on Reddit chop their SD cards in half.

Pinned! Good comment. Thanks for the tip.

Great video, clear info without making it 20 minutes long.
Glad it was helpful!
I think we gotta remove the sd card
He never told us to put it back in. :(

Thanks for looking out!
instructions unclear, swallowed SD card.
Jokes aside, great video. Thanks.
Well dangit dude! don't do that
how to i get clover or some other dual boot menu to work with this setup?

I broke my SD card!!!!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME TO TAKE MY SD CARD OUT???😢😭😭😭😭
I can only do so much!
Have you checked out clover for dual boot? Also any particular reason you went with bazzite vs the valve image?

Seems to be working for me. I also heard there are full drivers with working audio in windows now for the OLED. Enjoy!
Question... Are you from the midwest?
I might be....
I have problem during install bazzite. Dont working keyboard, i dont type while install . Any idea? I tryied 2 usb c dock with usb dongle keyboard and wired keyboard..
Does the dongle have USB-C PD passthrough? I have an Anker USB-C dock that doesn't respond until I give it power into the USB-C port.
I forgot to remove my SD card damn it
There is no sound drivers for windows on the Steam Deck OLED
They actually just stealth released an update to that on their driver's page. I don't have an OLED to test on but someone can check it out to confirm!
Hi, does the double boot affect the performance of games in Linux or its more or less the same of STEAM OS?
Seems to be good so far. I'm going to load it up with games and probably do a followup video to see.
How does Bazzite compare to dual booting with SteamOS instead?
Bazzite has documentation on dual booting and they support it. Valve does not.
Dual booting works they just haven't updated the page about it for some reason. I've been dual booting for a while now because of literally only one game i play not working on Linux
Hoping we could have boot manager, tested ref1nd not working, clover aswell hoping someone could help me.
Crap forgot to take the sd card😢
Not going lie one time I forgot to remove the SD card...... I got really really luck
Considering the number of times he says to remove the micro SD card... I'm going to guess he accidentally nuked his SD card😅
No I got lucky. Ive shaved the paint off of an SD card, but I figure it's a good warning in general as I've seen a few people on Reddit chop their SD cards in half.
FRRRIICCKKKK!!!!..I left my Sd Card in…what’s the next step?!?!?
