  • Peter and John had been filled with the Holy Spirit. They didn't have much money, but they shared what they had: the power of God.
This video has been designed to be used in a small group. When you have gathered your group, begin with prayer.
Icebreaker: Tell about a time when you got more than you asked for.
Watch the video. Use the head questions to lead the group in retelling the story, then read the text, Acts 3:1-20. Use the remaining questions to spark some conversation.
Head Questions: get the facts straight
    1. Where does our story take place?
    2. What were Peter and John doing there?
    3. What is the first thing Peter says to the beggar?
    4. What does Peter do next?
    5. How does the beggar respond?
    6. How does the crowd respond?
    7. Who does Peter say that is responsible for the healing?
    8. What does Peter preach about Jesus? About those in the crowd?
    9. How should those listening respond?
    10. What will God do for them if they repent?
    Heart Questions: dig deeper
    1. Why do you think the believers were still going to the Temple for prayer?
    2. Why do you think Peter asked the beggar to look at him?
    3. What do you think the beggar expected from Peter? How did he get more than he expected? How does God give us more than we expect?
    4. Who do you see as the source of power for Peter’s command to heal? How do we, as believers, continue to have the same delegated power? What part do you think the name of Jesus has in it?
    5. Remember, the beggar was lame from birth. How complete do you think this healing was? How do you think this man could walk and leap when he had never learned to walk? What does this tell you about how God heals?
    6. Why do you think the man praises God but clings to Peter and John? What does this tell you about the faith of the man? How should this be a model for us today?
    7. Who do you see Peter giving credit to in our story? Why do you think Peter used the name of Jesus to heal?
    8. In his sermon, Peter uses the names of God from Exodus 3:6, the names God used to Moses at the burning bush. Considering Peter is speaking to Jews, why do you think this is significant?
    9. Peter is blunt with the crowd. 13bThis is the same Jesus whom you handed over… 14You rejected this holy, righteous one… 15 You killed the author of life. What do you was the purpose of this?
    10. How do you see the Jewish people acting against Jesus in ignorance? What does this say to us when we sin in ignorance? What do you see as the solution to ignorant sin?
    11. How was the ignorance of the Jewish people used in God’s plan for Messiah? What does this say to you about how God can redeem things?
    12. What must we do to receive spiritual refreshing?
    14. What do you learn about God from this story? About humankind?
    15. How does this story turn what the world thinks upside down?
    Hands Questions: application
    1. What has this story taught you?
    2. What did you learn to help you walk with Jesus?
    3. What was the theme for today?
    End in prayer.
