No this version wouldn't work in the original A New Hope. It is a fascinating well done work those guys did, very well executed and feeling for details indeed! But it wouldn't work since the idea of having Obi and Vader being older and therefore not as agility as they where when they where young is shown clearly in the original one. It is also displayed in ESTB and RTJ. This master piece of re-make is and will only exist in the imaginary and soul of the makers and the awed viewers ( I am one of them), but it wouldn't just work in the original film, sorry. I can try to give an explanation. This remake has the "fight" we've seen before: its fast, its cool and its brutal. That one on its own works pretty fine! But in the original movie, it was more than that. It was about an old master meeting an old student, and the weight in the scenes are precisely just that: they are older and therefore slower, which gives the depth and leaves the viewer with the though and imaginary how they where as younger. It has a certain touch to it, thats why I think this version wouldn't work in the original film.
@Dreamstate You should either read, or listen to the novelisation, that will help But to be fair, anyway considering themselves even half a fan should read/listen to the novelisation of ALL the movies, even, and maybe especially the newer ones They can all be downloaded from piratebay or similar if you dont want to shell the cash, because as with _almost_ every movie, the books are 10x better
And Vader has such a cocky fighting style, slashing without looking, turning his back to Obi-wan, he's like Anakin was in movie 3. It's amazing that they matched the tone of the characters to the fight choreography as well as tapped the full potential of force masters fighting.
Presence, they chose Vader as a 6 foot 6 bodybuilder (prowse) to give him presence, shame you don't get to see this kind of thing really I think it's partly the ricochet that does it, in the film's lightsabers act a bit like magnets- once they hit, they "stick"
The swing at 2:33 was awesome. Due to his mechanical limbs he had to seriously modify his fighting style to be more conservative but every strike was a powerful killing blow. This swing definitely embodies that idea.
Anakin's life as a Jedi was during a time of war, and he accordingly learned to go for the kill when fighting (much to the shock of the order's masters who still saw themselves as peacekeepers). An approach that served him well when he became an angry cyborg tasked with beating the galaxy into submission.
I had this old book about all the lightsaber fights in Star Wars. The original was the one that this scene remastered was the only one that was labeled as "Legendary". So of course at the time, the amazingly choreographed and beautifully scored Duel of the Fates was only "Notable", which really irritated me. They didn't even do much in the original fight, they just kinda stood there, and touched lightsabers. If they were gonna choose one fight to make legendary, they could've chosen a much better fight, but if it had been a lot more like this I would've had fewer complaints.

One of the cool things about this duel is that every swing from Vader looks like it is intended to take Obi-Wan's head off. There is nothing overly flashy about this. Vader is truly trying to kill his opponent
Not sure but when he throws his sword and it's stuck in the wall he let it cut horizontally so that there is room to escape below. An absolut ruthless one would have cut diagonally to finish it there. Not saying that this fight is anything but amazing! ^^
Obi-wan: Apprentice, looks like you still have much to learn. Darth Vader: I'm sorry, my master, but there is no high ground to save you this time. Obi-wan: Oh, are you sure about that? (Kenobi takes out a stool and stands on it) Obi-wan: It's over, Vader. I still have the high ground. Darth Vader: ...I hate you
It’s insane!! The amount of force that Vader puts into EVERY single strike can be felt deep! NEVER before have I been intimidated by Darth Vader like this! Awesome job guys!
@@franziskanerweissbiersfasf8145 No not really, Vader had lost to obi wan before on mustafar almost killing him. Now he's very cautious and maybe somewhere even a bit scared/hesitant to duel with his old master again as to not suffer another defeat. He knows full wel what obi wan is capable of
@@brentmeyers9657 yes but the amount of anger Vader had against Obi Wan at this point was immeasurable. So the aggressive fighting style here is fitting perfectly
I like how Obi Wan is clearly trying his normal defensive, wait for an opening style too, only for it to Vader to pretty much muscle through it with his force powers and raw strength.
Yeah, this fits in with the lore better too. At this point in the timeline, Darth Vader had been in so many lightsaber duels during the clone wars and purge that in the EU, it was generally accepted that he had become the greatest lightsaber duelist to ever live. The only reason Luke was able to survive his duels with him was that Vader was never interested in killing him.
Then there was Ahsoka who said she wouldn't leave him, and Ezra snatched her from another plane of reality. Vader forefeits revenge outta confusion lol
Obi Wan on Mustafar: "What do you call a man with no arms and no legs that is catching on fire? Burns. What do you call a man with no arms and no legs that was on fire? Ash." Anakin: "I hate you!"
Its better than Disney because while still fantasy it remains somewhat grounded, and features characters well written characters you can legitimately care about.
Actually, Anakin was faster and had more finesse. Vader's style is heavier and more direct because the suit has mobility issues, but amplifies his strength.
T Prime Very true. The heaviness and anger in his swings just reminded me a lot of Anakins duel with Dooku on Geonosis and eventually obi wan on Mustafar.
T Prime acktuashlyy... when anakin is angry in both movies and animated series his swings become heavy, ruthless aggressive swings as he loses his finesse due to losing control of his emotions.

@@danielamaral2867 Yeah about that... Kenobi's weakness was form 2 and interestingly Vader had started using form 2 after Mustafar to compensate for his mobility issues. So he's supposed to use form 2 along with other forms, here.
Exactly! Remember, Vader waited 20 years for his revenge against Obi-Wan - revenge for destroying his body; revenge for turning Padme against him and - atleast according to Vader - leading him to kill her too. You would think that Vader wouldn't hold back at all once he meets Obi-Wan against, and here we see it in this scene. While the original was still great if it was in a standalone film, I think this scene fits much better in the complete trilogies of Star Wars. Of course, the irony that you get to see in this scene is that Luke, Padme's son, gets to watch Vader go all out at Obi-Wan for supposedly killing Padme and their children (indirectly). Though, I suppose Vader can still get revenge for getting mangled and nearly left to be a pile of burning ash on Mustafar.

Being saber-locked with Vader in a narrow hallway while he tells you "there is no escape" is probably the most terrifying thing that could happen to someone in the galaxy. Next to probably being eaten by a sarlacc, being chased by a rancor, or surviving for just a day on Felucia.
We can see in this edit that Vader is fighting to kill and Obiwan is fighting to buy time for Luke and co. Obiwan knows he is outclassed but continues to defend defend defend, until he sees that Luke is ready to escape. That vibe couldn't be seen before - it just looked like two girls play-fighting.
Which is essentially what happened in their fight on Mustafar, just there wasn't quite the power gap between Obi and Anakin as there was there, and Obi didn't get so lucky lol
That's Obi-Wan's fighting style, soresu. Very effective against Sith, they get so deep in their rage and emotion, that they're more focused on destroying the opponent than defending themselves, and that's when he attacks. That's how he could've beaten Vader here.
5 years later and those few minutes are still better than 80% of Disney SW. It's got the style down, the characters and what the fan wants to see. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I was a kid, like 6 years old, at the time (1977) and I remember how scary Vader was as you see him in the movie. Seeing him like this would have been terrifying! The Vader I remember was generally calm and very intimidating. This Vader for more malevolent!

Originally the fight was baced off of traditional samurai fighting styles but changed throughout the trilogy. that is why it looks so weird compared to the rest of the fights in the trilogy
A little fun fact about Vader’s suit, the shoulder area is so heavy that it is near physically impossible for Vader to lift his hand above his shoulders. Notice how for most of the fight he does swings from the side and when he strikes down he brings his whole body down too. It’s all great attention to detail
Indeed he's hit there, a glancing blow, and it hurts but the armor resists. The only tiny tiny flaw in a perfect scene is that Darth Vader here appears slitghly less tall than the original.
then you must be young. masters wouldn't move like that. they would use less movement and more precise techniques when attacking and defending. Obi Wan said to Luke "I'm getting to old for this sort of thing" and he walks around like he's well, old. and then you want people to believe out of know where he's going to fight like he's 19? lol
Large amount of form 5 in Vader, very open movements with an aggressive style focused on offense. I think that’s how he would’ve fought when meeting Obi Wan.

It has a certain touch to it, thats why I think this version wouldn't work in the original film.

If he had stood on top of the falcon he would have become more powerful than Vader could've possibly imagined
Death was the high ground, the chosen one got away.
When you think about it, heaven is the ultimate high ground
This is exactly how the original looked through my eyes at 8 years old.
for me too... I'm not from the SW generation but I've watched it when I was very young...
@Dreamstate Vader was confused too, that is why he kicked at the robes with his foot. Its because he became a force spirit.

@Dreamstate You should either read, or listen to the novelisation, that will help
But to be fair, anyway considering themselves even half a fan should read/listen to the novelisation of ALL the movies, even, and maybe especially the newer ones
They can all be downloaded from piratebay or similar if you dont want to shell the cash, because as with _almost_ every movie, the books are 10x better
i LOVE how you can feel the weight in each of Vader's strikes
Agreed.
You can also feel the hatred behind each strike. He waited for 20 years to kill Obie Wan, and you can feel it in this edit.
I also like how you can see that each strike is meant to kill. Not just hit the opponents saber
And Vader has such a cocky fighting style, slashing without looking, turning his back to Obi-wan, he's like Anakin was in movie 3. It's amazing that they matched the tone of the characters to the fight choreography as well as tapped the full potential of force masters fighting.
Presence, they chose Vader as a 6 foot 6 bodybuilder (prowse) to give him presence, shame you don't get to see this kind of thing really
I think it's partly the ricochet that does it, in the film's lightsabers act a bit like magnets- once they hit, they "stick"
I bet each blow jar jarred Ben's shoulders.
Ok, I'll just leave now...
The swing at 2:33 was awesome.
Due to his mechanical limbs he had to seriously modify his fighting style to be more conservative but every strike was a powerful killing blow. This swing definitely embodies that idea.
Yeah that whole section up to the scene cut is my favorite part of this. It has a great mix of the OT deliberate pacing, with the Prequels' flash.
Right! Litterally went for a decapitating strike 😂
Anakin's life as a Jedi was during a time of war, and he accordingly learned to go for the kill when fighting (much to the shock of the order's masters who still saw themselves as peacekeepers). An approach that served him well when he became an angry cyborg tasked with beating the galaxy into submission.
Kenobi is the greatest Jedi tbh imagine having to fight Vader
@@timesupea and surviving multiple encounters!
Now this looks like the kind of warrior capable of purging all the jedi
It also showed old Ben Kenobi was still not to be fucked with either.

Why did the music turn so dark for no reason? What’s happening? Where’s the innocent swashbuckler i was just watching?” *leaves theater in confusion*
@@TheMuni777 that's actually true, they were not ready for it.
As their faces were melting, they would be saying "I have the power to save the one you love!"

Rest in peace James Earl Jones he won’t be forgotten 🙏
vader's entrance when he just grabs his lightsaber off his belt with the force and how he's walking just hammers home just how pissed he is
That scene made me get chills it was badass
You could tell the only thing going through his head was "I'm going to kill him"
Especially considering it would have been quicker (but less dramatic) if he had of grabbed it off his belt with his free hand and switched hands on the fly.
@Purpleskull 7548 The fire and pain for Anakin were the result of what? Right. There was the result of his own furious actions, my young padavan. Its always a dark side problem after all.

Disney: This isn’t canon
Fans: unfortunately for you, history will not see it that way
I don’t think that Disney had anything to do with the production of A New Hope.
@@willglloyd No but they have made most original stories for comics and games no canon

Too bad they didnt have the technology back then to do it.
The lightsabers they used in episode IV were sticks coated in foil that rotated so they needed a battery pack and a wire which was heavy and tricky to use without exposing the wire plus you couldnt hit them together too hard or theyd break/stop rotating. On top of that the scene had to be edited frame by frame to add even more glow and not on a screen but on physical plastic spools of film with hand tools
@@P7777-u7r wow that's a lot of work. I wish they had todays technology back in that time. The movie would've been even better
You could feel the hate and sadness with every strike Vader does, no remorse.
The fact that vader used anything he could in the duel to win, force throwing barrels, punching, head butting, etc.
Bro was crashing out trying to kill this dude
Of course he tries to set Vader on fire again.
Hey! It worked last time!
Burn.
@Allen -- The circle really IS complete! ;)
Old habits die hard, I guess
Vader: oi tf did u do that for u wanker
Obiwan: hehe lol it worked last time I guess
Vader: fuck off mate I always did hate u
from the different fights they've had over the years that we seen in the films and shows kenobi has always had the upper hand this really shows how much hate vader has for him , great work
“Only a master of evil, Darth.”
No wonder why Vader launched at Ben like a raging bull... he provoked him.
Better yet, the master of getting caught.

If Disney copyright claims this then that means it’s Canon
If Disney doesn't copyright claim this because they don't want it to be Canon, then it's Canon.
Sincere question. What does canon mean?
@@kickasscorm "In fiction, canon is the material accepted as officially part of the story in an individual universe of that story."
@@Oxnate I thought this question was silly until I actually tried to define it and found out how hard it is to define. So rest assured this is a very legitimate question. The best way I could define it is something that is officially recognized as part of the true story of a fictional universe.
Well, they could also get claimed for music rights.
Rest In Peace James Earl Jones 💔
Man Kenobi really is the ultimate troll. Vader’s been waiting 19 years for revenge. The time arrives and when he FINALLY lays that death strike, he gets nothing but empty robe.
