The swing at 2:33 was awesome. Due to his mechanical limbs he had to seriously modify his fighting style to be more conservative but every strike was a powerful killing blow. This swing definitely embodies that idea.
Anakin's life as a Jedi was during a time of war, and he accordingly learned to go for the kill when fighting (much to the shock of the order's masters who still saw themselves as peacekeepers). An approach that served him well when he became an angry cyborg tasked with beating the galaxy into submission.

They had Anakin scream "I hate you!" in the direction of Vader. They had Obi Wan screaming "You were my brother Anakin, I loved you!". Seeing as it was the same voice yelling "You were the chosen one!" at Vader, I bet people woulda known it was Obi Wan yelling. Now if they would have realized that he meant Vader, or Anakin, was supposed to be the Chosen one, that's another story.
@@DerSpeggn That's not true. There are multiple stories of them doing re-writes. For instance, in Return of the Jedi, they talked about making Luke's sister a new character, but then switched it out for Leia in the name of simplicity and tying up loose ends. Also: Luke and Leia smooching a couple of times feels weird if they were always twins. I totally buy that Lucas had more planned out in terms of backstory, but I don't believe for a second it was as mapped out as he likes to claim. I'll believe that when I believe J.J. Abrams had Lost mapped out beginning-end.
No this version wouldn't work in the original A New Hope. It is a fascinating well done work those guys did, very well executed and feeling for details indeed! But it wouldn't work since the idea of having Obi and Vader being older and therefore not as agility as they where when they where young is shown clearly in the original one. It is also displayed in ESTB and RTJ. This master piece of re-make is and will only exist in the imaginary and soul of the makers and the awed viewers ( I am one of them), but it wouldn't just work in the original film, sorry. I can try to give an explanation. This remake has the "fight" we've seen before: its fast, its cool and its brutal. That one on its own works pretty fine! But in the original movie, it was more than that. It was about an old master meeting an old student, and the weight in the scenes are precisely just that: they are older and therefore slower, which gives the depth and leaves the viewer with the though and imaginary how they where as younger. It has a certain touch to it, thats why I think this version wouldn't work in the original film.

And Vader has such a cocky fighting style, slashing without looking, turning his back to Obi-wan, he's like Anakin was in movie 3. It's amazing that they matched the tone of the characters to the fight choreography as well as tapped the full potential of force masters fighting.
Presence, they chose Vader as a 6 foot 6 bodybuilder (prowse) to give him presence, shame you don't get to see this kind of thing really I think it's partly the ricochet that does it, in the film's lightsabers act a bit like magnets- once they hit, they "stick"

Too bad they didnt have the technology back then to do it. The lightsabers they used in episode IV were sticks coated in foil that rotated so they needed a battery pack and a wire which was heavy and tricky to use without exposing the wire plus you couldnt hit them together too hard or theyd break/stop rotating. On top of that the scene had to be edited frame by frame to add even more glow and not on a screen but on physical plastic spools of film with hand tools
whoever made this needs some kind of award. i remember waiting for and watching episode 1 etc, thinking how amazing the lightsabre battles were. if only the originals were that good, you answered my will to the force
One of the cool things about this duel is that every swing from Vader looks like it is intended to take Obi-Wan's head off. There is nothing overly flashy about this. Vader is truly trying to kill his opponent
Not sure but when he throws his sword and it's stuck in the wall he let it cut horizontally so that there is room to escape below. An absolut ruthless one would have cut diagonally to finish it there. Not saying that this fight is anything but amazing! ^^
Large amount of form 5 in Vader, very open movements with an aggressive style focused on offense. I think that’s how he would’ve fought when meeting Obi Wan.
4:43 It is always those moments. That changes a individual to their true potential; moments where people create their own nightmares out of those they pretended to love. They loved what they thought you would be; what they hoped you would be. Not realizing what it does to you. The guilt of your fall rest on your shoulders for entertaining others delusions. The pain, the agony, the betrayal. They realize your realization. That they are the source of your torturous torment. Then they see you as a monster of their own guilt and failure. Poetic how they create their own monster, from their own misguided actions an feelings. For where Love an hope is sowed. So is hate and despair.

Man Kenobi really is the ultimate troll. Vader’s been waiting 19 years for revenge. The time arrives and when he FINALLY lays that death strike, he gets nothing but empty robe.
Obi Wan on Mustafar: "What do you call a man with no arms and no legs that is catching on fire? Burns. What do you call a man with no arms and no legs that was on fire? Ash." Anakin: "I hate you!"
They would be floored for most of it, except when we hear their younger voices in a sort of flaskback they would be slightly confused. Although, it would come full circle even more with the ending of episode 3.
Exactly! Remember, Vader waited 20 years for his revenge against Obi-Wan - revenge for destroying his body; revenge for turning Padme against him and - atleast according to Vader - leading him to kill her too. You would think that Vader wouldn't hold back at all once he meets Obi-Wan against, and here we see it in this scene. While the original was still great if it was in a standalone film, I think this scene fits much better in the complete trilogies of Star Wars. Of course, the irony that you get to see in this scene is that Luke, Padme's son, gets to watch Vader go all out at Obi-Wan for supposedly killing Padme and their children (indirectly). Though, I suppose Vader can still get revenge for getting mangled and nearly left to be a pile of burning ash on Mustafar.

I love the fact that Darth Vader literally started the battle weilding his saber with both hands. In most battles I see him in, he usually just uses one. He knew from the start that Obi-Wan (old age and all) was still a formidable opponent.
i feel like he is trying to scare him with his new but limited power, you can tell he is trying but I almost feel as if he wants to scare obi wan then kill him with a crazy killing blow after wearing him (obi wan) out. I dont see darth vader taking the time that he did to kill obi wan when he has fought much more powerful opponents like star killer for longer. I do like though that obi wan is still putting up a fight, this was beautiful. Vader was unleashing everything as almost trying to prove to obi wan what he tried to do on mustafar, wearing him out then killing him with a huge blow.
Hes stance is usually Two hands, he doesnt like exposing hes life support But When he duels he uses makashi(one handed) and djem so mixed with form 1. Due to his mechanical limbs he had to seriously modify his fighting style to be more conservative but every strike was a powerful killing blow. This swing definitely embodies that idea.
Yeah that whole section up to the scene cut is my favorite part of this. It has a great mix of the OT deliberate pacing, with the Prequels' flash.
Right! Litterally went for a decapitating strike 😂
Anakin's life as a Jedi was during a time of war, and he accordingly learned to go for the kill when fighting (much to the shock of the order's masters who still saw themselves as peacekeepers). An approach that served him well when he became an angry cyborg tasked with beating the galaxy into submission.

@@Downsy882 Lucas had. He had the whole thing planned out from Ep 1 - 6. But technological constraints prevented him from doing ep 1 - 3 in the late 70s...
Since he never knew if it would be possible at any point in time, he did not make much of fuzz about it back then...

Agreed.
You can also feel the hatred behind each strike. He waited for 20 years to kill Obie Wan, and you can feel it in this edit.
I also like how you can see that each strike is meant to kill. Not just hit the opponents saber
And Vader has such a cocky fighting style, slashing without looking, turning his back to Obi-wan, he's like Anakin was in movie 3. It's amazing that they matched the tone of the characters to the fight choreography as well as tapped the full potential of force masters fighting.
Presence, they chose Vader as a 6 foot 6 bodybuilder (prowse) to give him presence, shame you don't get to see this kind of thing really

This isn't how Vader is supposed to be. He's fighting like Anakin in the Prequels. Vader in ESB is how he is supposed to be.
I’m showing my wife the entire Staw Wars universe, she doesn’t know anything prior. I am slapping this scene instead of the original (I’ll show the original later). This is SO good! The type of manoeuvres I missed, there is so much intention behind every attack, it’s so satisfying!! Thank you
I was watching A New Hope, stopped at this point in the movie, watched the fight in TH-cam and got back to the movie
Proof that this scene should be included in the film!!!
Haha. That was the best thing I’ve ever read on TH-cam.
Me to man :D
then you must be young. masters wouldn't move like that. they would use less movement and more precise techniques when attacking and defending. Obi Wan said to Luke "I'm getting to old for this sort of thing" and he walks around like he's well, old. and then you want people to believe out of know where he's going to fight like he's 19? lol
ME TOO!!
Imagine if you'd shown this in the original theatric release in 1977.
There may have been actual deaths due to shock haha

This shit was beyond worth the wait
If fans back in the 70s saw this their faces would’ve melted off
Honestly, and it already did that when Star Wars came out😂
They would’ve been like “wow the tone of this family friendly space adventure film sure has changed. I wonder why we’re spending so much time with these two characters and not the main character. Wait why are these guys so important again? I thought he was just distracting Vader so the actual important people can escape. Why is the camera moving so much now? Why did the music turn so dark for no reason? What’s happening? Where’s the innocent swashbuckler i was just watching?” *leaves theater in confusion*
@@TheMuni777 that's actually true, they were not ready for it.
As their faces were melting, they would be saying "I have the power to save the one you love!"
When people watched the final part of Raiders of the Lost Ark in theaters some peoples faces did melt off.
Man Kenobi really is the ultimate troll. Vader’s been waiting 19 years for revenge. The time arrives and when he FINALLY lays that death strike, he gets nothing but empty robe.
Plus he trolls him right off the bat. With just a master of evil. Vader loses his shit after that comment.

They would be floored for most of it, except when we hear their younger voices in a sort of flaskback they would be slightly confused. Although, it would come full circle even more with the ending of episode 3.

That was amazing!! Vader was as violent and brutal as he should be! Very well done!
I love how there's so many instances where you can see Obi-Wan just trying to stay alive, never mind giving Luke and the others the chance to escape.
EckhartsLadder this is Star Wars done right. Savor it my friends
EckhartsLadder ikr it makes it feel more like a star wars lightsaber battle
Like yout vids and Im not english/usa
Now he is with the force. Rip James Earl Jones
Now THIS is a fight between to people who’s last meeting ended with one of them being left for dead.

Not so old, he was 57
He was using one hand for most of his strikes in this video too.
He fights one-handed to initially toy with his opponents.
