Oh yes, ... finding the ideal place for where the orchids go & fit them according to size / genus & foliage length & repeating it on a daily basis in winter, ... I do that 😅 .. in summer, I’m fiddling with them until the angle of the sun makes it safe to keep them in their spot until watering. Shade cloth up / shade cloth down ... it’s a timing thing 😅 in winter they come inside at night but once temps outside match inside, the majority go out for the day, when it’s sunny. So... I’m like a yo-yo with my orchids. Even my dog doesn’t pay attention to when I’m in and out, whereas usually he follows me wherever I go 😊 sometimes, when I do stay away too long, (staring through my orchid collection) he will look for me & lay down until I’m done. I love checking my orchids! Great video!!! Love the snake & orchid pic!! 🤩
Lol I love that the dog gives up on you when you’re into the orchids. 😂😂😂 judging by everyone’s comments, I’m in good company. Lol. Yeah I relate to the yo-yo’ing. Trying to take advantage of good weather when it comes, bringing them in and out. The things we do for love! Lol. I love the snake pic too. It’s hard to get them to stay still long enough.
Hi I’m not a TH-camr, I’m new to grow orchids for last year or so, I have been searching for New England grower, you and lady green thumb the only TH-camrs. Thank you for explaining about grow light is the big part of growing orchids indoor.
That’s great, thanks for watching! I’ll have to check out lady green thumb. If you have any suggestions for video topics, let me know! I’m happy to help if you ever have any questions.
Ahhhhh Bennet, I love it! Lol. Your weird orchid rituals are soooo relatable. I run laps at least 3-4 times a day checking all the ‘chiddies and on sat/sun, orchid Tetris is the best game to play. Haha. I’ve mostly got them all down to their own spot at this point, but every now and then they don’t all fit. Haha. Thanks for the love - great to hear more about your perspectives on orchids/care
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the rituals is a funny one. And everyone seems to be just as obsessive as I am, lol. I loved the bonus questions at the end. We’ll have to come up with another round of questions for next time and do a Part 2!
It seems I am the first one to see your video and it's great. My orchid addiction started years ago, but for the last two years I am so deep in ( counted 100), that even in the middle of the night, if for some reason I weak up, I go to my grow room just to check on them. Looking forward to see your next video and It will be nice if you share your experience about grow lights you're using. Thanks
That’s too funny, in the middle of the night. Lol. I knew I wasn’t the only one! Yes I’ll definitely be talking more about my lights in the future. Thanks so much for watching!
Loved your video as always 😊! Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!!!! My weird orchid habit would be arranging my orchids in my bathroom so that they receive the best lighting, and watering and I don't knock them over when trying to move around lol. A grow shelf is on my holiday wish list, lol.
Thanks I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Ughh the bathroom must be a struggle. I don’t have windows in my bathroom, but I can relate because I water my plants in the bathtub lol. So I have to shove all my plants in the tub without breaking any growths or flower spikes. Let me know when you get your grow shelf, I want to see pictures!
One question that I think should be on the list is: Where do you feel you fall short or need to improve in your orchid growing/care? I definitely feel that I don't stay consistent in my watering routine. I will put it off for a couple days and then need to scramble to water everything all at once. It for sure doesn't help the plants that have recently been repotted or are recovering from disease. That leads me to another question: What orchid(s) have you purchased that you completely underestimated the care it needed or your ability/desire to take care of it's needs?
Oh that’s a great question! Thanks for sharing, because I’d like to compile a new list of questions and do a new video in a few months or something. Yeah I agree about watering. I go through phases with it, not as consistent as I should be. And the underestimated orchids question is another great one. I’ll have to think about it and get back to you! But I’ve definitely had that experience, when I got an orchid, thinking it would be easy, and then getting super frustrated.
Love it. I always feel in the left behind conversations because I know enough to not know anything but just enough to be dangerous. I started studying orchids because I couldn’t figure out why I was so bored with them. And yes I’m part of that hedonist group that is not drawn to lady slippers. Not part of my spiritual life. However, I started learning a lot about phal. Big surprise! In the middle of Wyoming there are no nurseries, orchid nurseries or even orchid groups. But I did manage to go to a nursery in CO and a couple in Tampa Florida. So, back to the phal. Once you start learning you start talking. Turns out my friend was turning into an orchid freak like me around the same time. So as a newbie I start repotting all my phals. People start asking me questions and I’m answering with all the knowledge I still don’t possess. Then I’m giving them away to make way for my new plants from High Desert Orchids. I suddenly realize as I’m taking these 3 giveaway phals how badly repotted they are. So as I’m giving then to this other newbie I’m giving her all these instructions on how to fix. Left to home with my shame and embarrassment and now a couple of weeks later I still haven’t checked in. But since I’ve purged my truth here I’ll text her to see how it’s going. Lol. Pretty sad! But I need your info on lights to see what, how much and how much I’m going to have to change to set them up. A lot I think
To be honest, Lady Slippers aren’t my favorite either. Lol. I think I only have one Paph and one Phrag at the moment. Lol. I can relate to being in the “in between” stage of knowing enough to be dangerous. I don’t have nearly as much knowledge and experience as some of the other growers out there, but it sounds like you’re on the right track.
I really related to your "orchid Tetris" comment 🤣. I've "only" got 31 orchids as I just started collecting last year so I'm pretty new. I can completely get the obsession when moving them to water to get them all back again and I will fuss like mad for ages until I'm happy with where they are lol 🤣.
I am one to look over my plants several times a day. I figure I might see something I missed ( like a new spike ). And now my cat has started looking over my plants too, I think because she see's me doing it. 😂
That’s a good point, checking in case you missed something. It would be better to notice pests or something sooner rather than later. Lol. that’s awesome that your cat has become a guard cat for your orchids. Lol.
Lol I think we all fidget with them I’m constantly reorganizing my plants to make my grow space easier to move around in and it eventually opens up more space which then somehow always manages to get filled again 😂😂
Thank you for sharing your story! I can relate in so many things you said! I think there is another TH-camr I subscribe in your area. I suppose you are ok considering I am Seahawks fun. 😂😂😂 I wish I started TH-cam back when I had sooooo many exotic pets about 10 years ago! Sadly I had to give them ALL away due to my wife being pregnant and also moving... and flash forward I replaced them with plants (mainly orchids)... then with a first rebloom in May this year, I decided to start my TH-cam... it’s been fun! And like I said it’s been fun watching your videos because so many thing I can relate and also learn from you. We are probably in close climate so that’s probably why (Greater Seattle in Washington). Anyway, if you have time take a look at my videos!
That’s a bummer that you had to give away your pets, but it’s understandable, you have a family to care for. I may have to downsize my animal collection one day as well. But until then, you can enjoy them in my videos! And I’ll check out your vids too.
Loved your video. Also I think you put Matthew's video and not Dustin's 😬. I also go and stare at them and than go back again and again like they'll start talking to me lol
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it! You’re right, I fixed the link. Thanks for pointing that out! 😬. I’m glad I’m not the only one who stares at them like a weirdo! Lol.

That walkeriana is very well grown!! Great work!
Thank you! It’s one of my favorites.
Loved your videos, it’s hard not to fuss over your orchids a specially winter season in New England we’r growing them in our living room 😂 😝 😆
Lol I’m glad you can relate. Are you also a New Englander??
Fun video! Maybe I’ll do one. Could be marvelous. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Kelly! Omg yes, you really should! I’d love that. I bet you’d have some really interesting answers.
Thats too funny. 31 is still a sizable collection! I bet you’ll have double that within a year though. Lol.
Lol.
I don’t do videos, but I totally check my orchids like a million times a day lol
Yesss. Lol.
Lol I think we all fidget with them I’m constantly reorganizing my plants to make my grow space easier to move around in and it eventually opens up more space which then somehow always manages to get filled again 😂😂
Yep! If we don’t have any more room, we MAKE more room. Lol.
clam chowdah 🤗💯‼️
💯 💯 💯😎

@@bennetriley1988 I really try to not fiddle fart with them too much so couple days later I am all over them. Helicopter parent 😂
