The Doctor offered Mickey to come with them and, in front of Rose, he covered for Mickey's not wanting to come with them so Mickey wouldn't look bad. That was pretty nice of him, actually.

Here’s my opinion on Mickey and Rose, that I think nobody else really touches on. Rose and Mickey grew up as kids together. They were together, mostly because of proximity. It’s the sort of relationship that most people grow out of. Their relationship would have ended if one of them went to college, or got a job in a different city or something. Mickey clings to Rose, because she’s comfortable, familiar, and all he’s known up to this point. It’s played for laughs, but a lot of people separate from both romantic and platonic relationships at this stage in their lives. Rose is moving on, and growing up. It’s hard and painful, especially for Mickey, as he feels “left behind”, but it’s ultimately healthy. Most of us do not stay long term with our “first love”.
Anyway, LOVING the reactions!! I so appreciate reactors who actually get into the intricacies of the show, appreciate the deeper messages, but also enjoy the silliness. Keep it up!!

The chemistry and banter you guys have with each other and the show is so enjoyable to watch and as someone who has been a fan of the modern show since it first aired in 2005, it’s like I’m seeing it for the first time all over again with how much fun I have seeing you enjoy the silliness and the emotion of the show!

It’s great that you’re getting into Doctor Who. I’ve watched all of new who multiple times. Now I’ve gone back to watch classic who….. you know…… all the stuff that my parents wouldn’t let me watch when I was a kid. They deemed it “too scary” without ever having watched a single episode. The old stuff is definitely paced differently, and if you think 2006 special effects are iffy, wait until you see the 1960’s stuff. Im loving it though……. Honestly, there isn’t a Doctor that I dislike so far.

    • @Persewna4
      @Persewna4 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@@R_SENAL Yeah, basically making himself the bad guy in front of Rose by putting his foot down. She easily buys it because he's said on multiple occasions that he doesn't want to deal with "domestics", which also points out how the Doctor is starting to soften by being the one to ask Mickey if he wants to come along first.

Glad I subbed here too on my main account (I'm Rsenal's Arsenal too) because otherwise I wouldn't have seen this till Monday. I needed something to watch while grinding my MMO, and this is great! I love the "chitins" 😂 I think this one had to be 2 episodes because with all the character development around the story it would have felt too rushed otherwise. RTD (writer & showrunner) likes his characters to have believable supporting cast and personal lives. One of the things about Classic era WHO was that many companions/friends of the Doctor were orphans or had some reason to be loners, and Russel wanted to do something different with New WHO. Still glad you are seeing the politics of the show, it is ever present and intentional and always has been. Even if the aliens are all about that paper, it still holds a mirror up to our values.

The goofyness and 'Keystone cops" in Doctor Who indeed gives you Scooby-Doo vibes and to show you how close that is, there's a meme/cartoon about that with the quotes (especially fit for this episode):
Scooby-Doo be like: "Well gang, looks like the "alienr" was old Mr Jenkins all along!"
Doctor Who be like: "Well gang, looks like "old Mr Jenkins' was an alien all along!"
Love me some Sean Connery and the ever so charming Pierce Brosnan and I actually liked George Lazenby's version too, but I assure you, Timothy Dalton has much better roles upon his sleeve than the Bond one, so true.

The shot in Ep1 Rose of Mickey clinging to her is supposed to be a gender swap of classic fantasy/action art from the likes of Frank Franzetta and Boris Vallejo where the (usually barely dressed) damsel in distress is clinging to the hero figure, showing that Rose is (or will be) a hero.
I'm not sure it quite comes off, but the showrunners are definitely telling us a lot about Mickey, Rose and their relationship.

I look forward to the Doctor Who reaction videos every day! I really enjoy the conversation you have together after the episode, you have interesting insights and ask questions I hadn't considered before. Thank you for taking us along on your journey and offering your new, unique, perspectives!
I was thinking on Syntell's question, whether this story needed two episodes. I think, if we're talking about the Slitheen story, no, it did not need two episodes. However, if it were one episode, the scenes with Jackie and Mickey likely would have been cut, and so for that reason I think in the greater context of the series story, yes, these episodes were worth the two-parter. I won't get into specifics, but it will be interesting to see if certain scenes or lines from these two episodes come back to either of you during later ones. I will say that Jackie and Mickey are really important for Rose's story arc, in that they give us viewers a better understanding of her life before the Doctor, and lend gravity to her decision to continue journeying with him when we know the people she chooses to leave behind. It's my understanding that in Classic Who, not much time was spent on the Companions' home and family that they left to travel with the Doctor, and I feel, based on the series of New Who I've watched, that getting that glimpse of their lives beyond the TARDIS helps ground these characters in reality. When they are off fighting aliens and monsters, someone, somewhere, back on Earth loves them, and misses them, and worries.

22:12 The Doctor can be a jerk. He can also be a nice guy. And if he gets mad he can dang near be the Wrath of God.
In this new WHO they have the Doctor win by being smarter and more noble that his enemies.
In the classic Who the Doctor would throw hands, break necks and do some judo on fools. On TH-cam, there is a video montage of clips from Classic Doctor Who were he is straight up merking folks. And to make it truly hilarious they have a rap song called “Die M@therfvcker Die” playing in the background.

Alot of people don't like these two-part episodes mostly due to the farting aliens and found it off-putting to some people but for me i personally loved it and find this a very Doctor Whoie episode.

The best Doctors are often jerks to one degree or another. He is a an alien, after all, and has lived for hundreds of years, travelled the universe, and survived the Time War. He is fascinated by humans and others he meets, but he is not a human.

that jar of candy on the pm's deck is probably actually smarties, the original candy that mars famously ripped off through weird trade-secret espionage to create m&ms, and that the uk tends to be super proud and defensive about.
over here we have a completely different and unrelated candy called "smarties," those pressed-dextrose rolls of agreeably bland sweetarts-style wafers you find at the bottom of halloween pails-though the trademark rights behind that local name introduce further wrinkles to all the legal hand-wringing.
you're online long enough, you will eventually run into cultural drama about smarties and why the us is so offensively wrong about everything. 😂

I think overall most of the 2 part episodes are drawn out. They basically have too much script to fit in one episode but not enough for 2 so then it just causes us to get some filler scenes. I think in the streaming era this could have done great like if you look at the Mandalorian and how the episodes are as long as they need to be to tell the story so you might get 30 minutes or you might get 50. the only problem with doing story telling that that is it feels cheaper later on if you have less minutes of run time overall for the season. Like if I get a half episode it would be nice to get another half episode to make up for it

Yall are funny thinking aliens landing in London will make a difference. They JUST landed in MIami the first week of January and ppl have forgotten already. Also Vegas… the Doctor is right…. We are apes who just watch Telly and eat chips. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The first time I watched this I thought the Micky/Ricky scenes were funny. But now, man they were hard on my guy. Losing your girl and then having that man make fun of you to your face? 😮

Another fun fact: the show was told before it aired originally in the 60s to not have aliens. The second serial of the first season had aliens 😂 they did not care 🤣 and who knows what would’ve happened if they stuck to that.

It's cool with me. Talk about moving the story along quickly.

For me this episode was the closest to the old who so far. It was an episode my kids at the time loved.
