    The Christmas specials are different from the mini episodes. The minis aren’t required to understand the continuing story, but the Christmas specials are.

    On Doctor regenerations; part of the personality of the new doctor is effected by what happened when he was the previous one. So, in this case Rose helped him heal from having to kill everyone in the time war. So, this Doctor is in general happier than Chris's one, but he also doesn't give a 2nd chance because of things like Raxacoricofallapatorians and how that went in Boomtown. Also, the amount of time he as unconscious in this episode is because ALL of the Timelord has to regenerate, not just looks, some of which requires him to "power down" so to speak, this is the reason they have two hearts, once can regenerate while the other keeps him alive, then they switch.

    • @Syntell
      @Syntell  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Now that's awesome.

    • @AddSerious
      @AddSerious 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@Syntell to go one step further, the amount of time and how badly he is effected by the regen is connected to how it was triggered. in this case he had all the Huon energy from the TARDIS in him, that is why he was unconscious for so long. Astron energy is part of the Timelord physical make up and what allows them to regenerate. The energy colliding is why it wasn't as damaging to Rose as The Doctor. It also means that he is more sensitive it, which is why it triggered the regen. He wasn't "mortally wounded" it was the energy inside him reacted and triggered the regen. I could spend days talking about Dr Who history and how it all works. EDITED because it had been decades since I looked up/read about the details and got some of the info slightly wrong, so I corrected it.

    I think Harriet could be seen as a hero to the human race - she did what she thought she had to do to protect the planet from future threats. On the other hand, she did kill them all. "Don't you think she looks tired" is supposed to be how Mrs Thatcher (former British prime minister) was brought down by her enemies in the Tory party (but it could be an urban myth). The budget may have increased a bit, but for series 2, they had to squeeze out the Christmas special on top of the 13 episodes. I think the technology for special effects got a bit better between series and they knew better how to get the best out of what they could afford. Christmas day 'Doctor who' became a bit of an institution in the UK from this one until they moved it to New Year. It was back on Christmas day in 2023. From what I remember, series one and series 2 were broadcast in the spring, so the Christmas special was a bit of an oasis in the 'doctor who' desert.

      Yeah but that´s the thing, what she did was stupid, cruel and pointless because, as the Doctor just said, we were atracting attention because of our atempts at reaching out, so it wasn´t really just the Sycorax, it was everyone´s ..and in this case, tho she was scared obviously, she didn´t know the best way to handle it, the Doctor did; this guy that can see the whole of time in his head and can basically predict what happens next ( something Harriet is aware of, because of their previous encounter last season) knew it was best ´just´to send a warning... I think her actions touch a bit on the cautionary tale of abusing power, she had good intentions in theory, but the killing to me was more a ´look what I can do´ than anything else ..plus it´s pretty disgraceful to kill everyone while they are retreating

The only folks who died were the general and Harriet´s helper on the ship. If more people (humans) died, they would´ve mentioned/showed, and that wasn´t the case. Still, if it were, it is not a reason to commit mass murder against people who were retreating, Harriet´s actions were not only wrong, but cowardly and reckless.

    I've never thought about Mickey that way before: he has his 'ideal woman fantasy' from when he met Rose when he was a little boy then actually ends up dating his ideal woman.
    Of course it'd be difficult to give her up!
    You can see that he's making some progress giving her up, but he has a little relapse at the end of this episode. First time through, I was surprised how fond I'd become of the "funny annoying mum and the funny useless boyfriend" characters, that they've become much more developed.

    • @Persewna4
      @Persewna4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think when he has that relapse, it might be because, while Rose was thinking "oh no, he's changed, he might not want me", and the Doctor is thinking "oh no, I've changed, she might not want me", Mickey was thinking "oh hey, he's changed, maybe this whole Doctor thing is over now". After all, he got to spend a good amount of the episode being Rose's support, being the one she turned to when trying to figure out this new alien threat, and one can't really blame him for having hope that maybe, just maybe, Rose would pick the familiar (Mickey) over the strange (the Doctor with a new face and personality).

    I like how Rose loves Nine and has a hard time seeing this as the same person (particularly since he's unconscious half the time and she can't see what's changed and what's the same). A lot of Ten's lines I could replay in my head with Nine saying them, and that helped a lot, but it took a bit of getting used to, and I didn't spend what must be years of travel time with him, so it had to be hard on her. The tone was right. He's the same person although different, just as we change over time. His change is just faster.

    • @Persewna4
      @Persewna4 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I think an important thing to remember during the scene when Rose cries about him having "left her" is that, although this new face is still technically the Doctor, Rose hasn't really had a proper chance to mourn the death of Nine. So much has been happening since the moment of regeneration, that it's only natural she eventually breaks down and cries, feeling a deep grief for the loss of the Doctor she loves. This one may habe two hearts and woke up in time to save her from a rogue Christmas tree, but he's not really being the Doctor yet, and so of course she feels alone, abandoned. It's been less than twenty four hours since she busted open the TARDIS in order to save him from a fleet of Daleks, Rose has had a very busy, exhausting, day and adrenaline will only carry one through so far.

    There are two major factors that determine whether a new actor is successful as Dr. Who: one is the actor himself/herself but the other is the scripts that are in that series. For success, both must be good. Lots of discussions among Whovians when things go wrong about whether it is the storylines that are at fault or the actor. Actors can't fix a bad script or storyline with their acting. All actors that have been cast as Dr. Who have been exceptional, but that doesn't mean that everyone likes their portrayals since a lot of the time the story arc of a series forces a personality on the doctor that is not to everyone's liking. Tennant is a brilliant actor and the scripts he was given work well (his doctor's personality is quite interesting - you already saw some of the tension in him in this script) so Tennant's time as the doctor is well loved. Enjoy!

    Nononono. The mini'sodes are like, only a couple minutes long(like, about 3?) and are generally the 'Children In Need' Christmas Specials. They're not required viewing and are "filler" (i.e if you skip thm you won't miss anything important since they're non canon). The Christmas Specials are full length episodes, like this one, ARE part of the story line and are NOT filler. You can't skip them. You can skip the minisodes if you want.
    It's just there that "minisode" that slots in between the end of the previous episode and the start of this one, shows the first interactions between Rose and 10th Doctor.

    The important thing with all Doctor Who Specials is to know that the season finales -- when major story arcs get wrapped up -- take place before them. (So a special is stand-alone content; or if there's a group of specials in between two seasons, it's like an additional mini-season in and of itself.) That makes it confusing when episode listings on streaming platforms make viewers think that they haven't reached the finale yet when they actually have, and then the tone and focus of the show changes completely.
    Long story short: it's not fun to watch a finale when you don't know you're watching a finale.

    Welcome to Doctor 10! David Tennant is a great actor and a really cool person. He grew up with the old Classic series so this was his dream job. He even did some audio acting for Big Finish Doctor WHO as a different character or 2 or 3 before he was chosen for his TV credits to play the role on the main show. This 10th Doctor is many people's favorite, but everybody has different favorites, however, I don't think this Doctor falls below Top 5 for anybody.

  • @istoppedthecar

    The Christmas episodes are essential viewing, but the minisodes aren't. You missed the minisode "Born Again" but that's OK, as long as you watch this special. The specials are "special" because they are not part of any season, no matter what various listing sites might say.

    As some people have said, these Christmas specials are different from the online mini episodes. I'm a huge fan and I've never seen all the minis tbh. It also might be difficult to make a reaction to the minis because some are literally 50 seconds long, but you guys should check them out if you're curious. The only one i'd personally want you guys to watch is from the end of series 7 called "Doctor Who: P.S. - Series 7 2012 - BBC One", whenever you get to the end of season 7 you should check it out. Another name for it is the scene that was never shot.

    (Possible Spoiler Warning: I talk about how regeneration works on the show, and if you feel it is a spoiler than don't read).
    The golden energy that the Doctor was emitting out of his mouth is not the same energy that he took out of Rose and put back in the Tardis (I can understand the confusion, but it's not the same, although there may be a reason these two energies look alike). But the golden energy that came out of the Doctor is "Regeneration energy." Since the classic Doctor Who series, the Doctor has had the ability to regenerate, it means when the Doctor is fatally wounded in some way, he can heal his body with regeneration energy, but so much of this energy builds up in his body that after he is done healing, he then changes because of this energy. This effect always looked different for each Doctor on the original show, but (for the most part) looks the same in this show.
    The Doctor is supposed to be the same person underneath when he regenerates (the same memories, mind, and soul), but essentially becomes a different person (but he is the same guy, just with a different appearance and personality, to a degree). And I am sure you guys got it, but just in case (and because I want to mention it, since it is an interesting fact) but after the Doctor has regenerated he still has left over regeneration energy for a certain amount of time, but he can use this energy to heal himself while he has it (but the more he uses, the more time he uses up too). And he always has regeneration energy in his body, but he can't use it regularly without risking not having enough to regenerate if he is near death.

    Also we call them pounds in Britain not dollars.
    Welcome to the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) era I have to say and this will be controversial David Tennant was one of my least favourite Doctors I think he's very overrated I think he was great in this episode but the rest felt very flat to me I do however look forward to seeing your reactions when you get to the Doctor that comes after Tennant and the next Doctor without giving any spoilers that Doctor and era was the best of NuWho in my opinion but never the less I hope you still enjoy the Tennant era regardless and you have some great adventures ahead of you.
    Just as to why the Doctor takes awhile to recover not all but some recently regenerated Doctors suffer this but regeneration is a process sometimes it takes awhile to recover some quickly recover the yellow stuff coming out of the Doctor's mouth was "regeneration energy" The Doctor was still healing and still getting his memories kicked into gear.
    When Harriet Jones killed the sycorax there's some devisive debate in fandom some think she did the right thing some agree with the Doctor in this case I'm with the Doctor because he's more advanced than the humans and for all we know there could have been sycorax families on that ship or some of the sycorax probaly wanted no part in it which I thought Harriet took the cowardly choice but that's just my opinion.
    I notice there's people telling you about the mini-sodes don't stress about them it's no big deal if you skip those you'll still have context the mini-sodes are just a minor thing not really that important.

    yea IMO when they did a dvd release they could have put in some effort and recut the special to include the little in between clip which everyone is calling mini episodes. basically they just copy paste that stuff to a dvd and it is as it was. IMO anyone watching the dvds or watching it on stream is binging. you can add stuff, remove stuff. IE no one wants to see NEXT TIME ON. especially for this damn show because the BBC takes the old school approach of spoil everything to get butts in seats. its kinda like the lame 70s and 80s shows. knight rider, battle star galactrica.... and for some dumb reason even dexter new blood brought that crap back. no one is tuning into a show to see a trailer of the show playing BEFORE the damn episode they are about to fricken watch! this was like an old school tactic to be like "oh look whats coming up, dont touch that dial" tv is on demand now.. we dont need that
