I hear you ask, why are they more expensive than in the USA and why are a lot of them sold out! In Europe you'll have to pay tax (21% + shipping + administration cost) all this has been paid already by Knives and Tools so you don't have to go trough the hassle. But why are they sold out you ask? There is only 1 of every knife because they are (semi) custom! Just tell those stinky guys at Knives and Tools what you're looking for and they will check if they can order it for you with their next batch!

Totally changed my mind about this. When I started to collect some knifes, I also purchased in the price range of 200-300 Euros. Not too expensive but still hesitated to use them regularly or for intense tasks, because I somehow wanted to take care, not to wear them off etc. Now I realized that a Mora (for example) is good enough for almost anything I do with a knife and it just doesn´t matter if it breaks. You just buy a new one. At least it is a tool.

Ordered today my MALANIKA PUUKKO CPM4V, birch wood handle, brass bolsters, leather sheat. The price is absolutely ok, I've seen ugly factory knives costing more and with incomparably lower quality. Only thing that makes me suffer is that I'll have to wait 14 months to get it... Yes people, 14 months. But it's really worth the waiting.

I have a custom knife from Dulo knives. It's a copy of a Fallkniven A1 made in Vanadis 4E with G10 (they would have done wood for same price) handles. Very good price for quality workmanship. It's an absolutely wonderful knife, better than an A1 Pro for less than half the price.
Scrapyard Dogfather in SR77 - Fantastic steel and heat treatment which you boys have never used on your channel. Check out Busse Combat (or sister companies like Swamp Rat or Scrapyard), they make some quality knives, usually in limited production runs in different steels than you're used to.

The problem with the super steel compared to basic 1095 or even USA 420HC is that unless you are reviewing a steel by cutting rope until it duals you really won't ever notice in actual normal working conditions. That is what you guys need to share in a video...
I'm all for buying awesome knives who cares what people buy with their own money that's their business I just think that some folks seriously believe that lesser low cost won't work. I can use my Gerber 420HC Strongarm all day at camp building shelter making feather sticks and batoning kindling and have no issues with edge problems. Will it cut paper at the end NO but one minute on a belt strop and yes it will. Now these awesome high end steels and knives are freaking awesome but in the end its all about ownership and personal wants......
I want an LT WRIGHT GNS some day, will it outperform my Garberg or my Ontario SK5 with basic camp work ??? NO not really BUT I will look freaking awesome while feathersticking and feel like I can build a better shelter😂 but in reality I'm just the same dude doing the same crap I could with my Gerber Strongarm😂

Great video guys. I wanted to thank you for doing the video on the mora 125 years special edition knife. I have been collecting knives for about 20 years now ( I'm 27, so most of my life), and my tastes have progressed towards high end production knives, and customs, but I work in construction and landscaping, so I normally try to carry one nice knife, and one cheaper knife that I don't mind abusing. Well I had been trying to find a fixed blade that I could thrash on instead of my Hinderer that I have been carrying. After watching your video, I was actually able to find one of the exact knives that you featured in the video, and it was only about $45. It has actually become one of my top 5 favorite knives and I have carried it every day since it came in the mail last week. It's not the nicest knife I own by a long shot, but the thing is a great performer, and it's such a simple, light weight knife.....it just works....hard to describe. I would definitely suggest anyone looking for a simple, inexpensive, reliable fixed blade to find one. Last I checked there was still some left on Amazon

Yes, it IS, and i can highly recommend Duloknives, especially in K390, Vanadis4E, Vanadis 8 and of course in Elmax. I own about 60 fixed blade knives, 10 of them are Dulos, some Bark River, and many other Custom knives. But there is no knife like a Dulo knife. They are incredable sharp, full custom made, and the best value you can get for a custom knife.
One of my favorite knives ist the Bark River Springbok First Production Run in CPM3V, but this knife can't compete my Dulos. 😁

I wish a reviewer would show that the Garberg handle material actually becomes quite grippy and gets a semi tacky feel to it. To many reviews that dont use the knives long enough to see these things over time....I know its hard when ya got a ton of blades like you guys do, putting in the hours on certain blades is darn near impossible. Lots of people talk about it not being the typical rubber stuff they use but IMHO its an excellent cross between wood and micarta and is bomb proof. I've used mine for more than half a year and I gotta say IMO its a perfect knife for crafting and all things survival.

well im a hobby knifemaker aswell and i can say that its very hard to find powder steel to buy except for rwl34 (atleast in germany) i mostly use 80crv2 and o1 steel because i also can heatbtrest it myself and these steels have a good performance overall but i managed to get some cpm rex m4 from america and an old plate of cpm t 420v which is like cpm s90v nowadays. but yeah the big point is its really hard to get your hands on powder steel and also its like 20 times the price than a simple carbon steel

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+Rowen we are aware of this. It's also much more expensive to heat treat some of these steels properly. That's awhy it's hard to find people who can work with it or are willing to work with it.

Speaking of the Malanika puukkos, Danijel doesn't heat treats himself the powder steels you mentioned. He sends the blades off for HT to a laboratory, while he heat treats himself 80CrV2, 52100, n690Co and D2.

Karesuandokniven hunter 10 is amazing carver and it holds edge very well. The knife has RWL 34 steel. It is a poudersteel that is stainless and is it a very tough steel.

I have to disagree about the mora being a beginner knofe, many old school very experienced bushcraft/camping folks use moras as their go to knife and most used edc knife, it's all about knowing your knife and it's capability, what they can do and not do

So.... how much do the Malanika knives cost? (Specifically the CPM 4V model)
I tried and failed to contact the knife maker, so I have no idea if the knife is 150 dollars or 1000 dollars

Great video guys. I love watching your videos on cheep knives v.s expensive knives. I beat the crap out of all my knives so cheeper is better. Can you do a review on the bear and sons cutlery stockman. It has been my EDC for 4 years now, for $30 u.s I think its unbeatable. Thanks!

Some brands are cheap and nice tho, mora is a good example. One of my friend recommend opinel, those are quite nice too. And going through his collection, we can really clearly see why some knives are expensive, for example, bastinelli's (well, can't afford that, lol)

I've got the Jaakaripuukko and I love the blade. Even though it costs less I'd take it before I take a Mora Garberg, personally. Both decent but one doesn't outweigh the other in durability, looks, etc. But the Jaakaripuukko has a MUCH better grip and comes with a nicer sheath. Not going to say they're the best knives but they're great.

Condor Terrasaur all the way, OR step up to the Terava Jaakari Puukko. PKS (Pathfinder Knife Shop) Scorpion is also very nice. I would like to see a Condor Bushlore with Micarta and 1095 Steel.
Check out the BPS Knives coming out of the Ukraine. His knives will be awesome when he gets some better steel.
After all considerations, the best value is the Mora Companion HD.
