On the marketing front they have been virtually non-existent, I've never seen a Hultafors ad, so they're missing a trick there because their knives are just as good as their axes, hatchets etc. They are well priced too, at least in the UK and Europe anyway, the OK4 is one of their more expensive knives, the basic scandis are £10-12 usually under £10, the OK4 and OK1 are £15 so even they're cheap in the UK and Europe. I'd advise people try a basic model before writing them off, at the least you'll have another knife for the collection.✌

Good review, I picked up one myself a few days ago as it seemed to have quite a few positive reviews and is pretty comparable on price with the knife I have been using, the Mora Companion Heavy Duty. Over here the Mora goes for anywhere between £16-£18 ($22-$25 at current rates), the Hultafors for about the same.
In my opinion the OK4 is pretty over-rated by a lot of reviewers, you however were pretty much on the money. The OK4 blade is slightly shorter and slightly thinner than the Mora Companion HD although the blade on the OK4 is slightly deeper. The blade on my OK4 isn't quite as sharp as the Mora and has a distinct nick (you can see it reflect) and a slightly uneven edge and as you mentioned the finish isn't great especially on the spine where the drop point is, mine is exactly the same as yours. The OK4 does have a 90 degree spine which the Mora doesn't but a few strokes with a file easily puts a 90 degree spine on the Mora as you point out. So overall IMO the blade on the Mora seems better.
Regarding the handle, I take a size 11 in gloves so I find the handle on the Mora better, slightly longer, slightly deeper and with a little more swell. Handle size and shape is pretty personal but I don't consider the OK4 to be better, just different.
So we come to the sheath, the OK4 sheath feels less rigid and the plastic is pretty thin compared to the sheath on the Mora, it's probably fine but it certainly isn't better than the Mora. The nylon belt loop seems like a good idea but I feel Hultafors missed a trick by not putting a press stud on the nylon loop to allow you to fit it to a belt without needing to remove the belt or to fit it to a belt with pouches without needing to remove the pouches or indeed allowing it to be attached to molle webbing, that said it does provide an extra option over the Mora sheath. However the biggest downside for me with the OK4 sheath is the plastic belt clip, I much prefer the open rear clip on the Mora as I like to carry my Mora in a cargo pocket with the clip attached to the actual pocket or carried outside the pocket but again clipped to the pocket so for me the Mora sheath is the winner. I personally wouldn't recommend the OK4 over the Companion Heavy Duty, I feel the overall quality of the Mora is just a bit better but really given that they cost the same in the UK the choice comes down to how they feel in the hand, smaller hands may prefer the OK4. Given the price difference in the USA between the Mora Companion HD and the Hultafors OK4 I'd take the Mora every time. I really don't understand why so many reviews refer to the OK4 as a Mora killer, I just don't see that at all, there simply isn't a big enough difference. I need to point out that I'm not a Mora fan, I just happen to have one although I would like to try a Bushcraft Black mainly for the extra length and depth of the blade over the Companion but they seem to be out of stock everywhere just now and at £50 or so it's a heavy premium for a blade that's at most about 1/4" longer and 1/4" deeper.
    Anyway, enjoyed your review, thanks.

Thanks for the review. As always very honest, non basis. Definitely a brand of knife that I was unaware of but will now look into. From the information you've provided on it will be a healthy competitor for Morakniv Robust, if the $ drops as it becomes readily available.

Thanks for the good video. I believe that OK4 is a sufficient knife in 99% of cases. Of course, it's good to have an ax and saw if you need to cut a lot of trees. In that case, a longer knife is no substitute for an ax either. OK4 costs approx. 25 euros / 26.8 USD here in Finland

I love the Ok4 for the handle - grippy rubber, , balance and sheet. Moras sheets are often a bit too simple and too small for the belt. The blade on the ok4 seem to have a small microbevel as someone mentioned below and I find the mora slightly sharper out of the box.

    • @excellentcat3878

Mine doesn't seem to keep an edge very well. Maybe that is because I am not good at sharpening it.
After I use it to eat my dinner, it has gone blunt again.
Neither do I sharpen it often. Luckily, I cook and eat tofu these days (it is very soft food).

I love my OK4...3 years as my go to knife and it is a perfect mix of high strength and light weight. It's nicer in the hand and in use than it has any right feel.
The exact same thing can be said for the fantastic Mora Robust if we're being honest but for a little more money (in Europe) I like the OK4 for the better/more confortable handle and sheath.

The price in Norway is $27.17 at the moment in writing. Plus shipping. The cost of the shipping from Sweden to Norway is likely lower than to anywhere else as we are neighbouring countries.
I'll pick one up and try it out. Being outdoors and about every week all year my knives are seeing some action. I normally buy Helle, Brusletto and some Øyo. But Hultafors has great quality tools so I am excited to try it out. :)

I really enjoy how the "pro" in the Mora knives does not stand for a gimmicky attempt on using words to sell more knives. The Pro series is for professionals, mainly construction. according to them that is the reason why the spine is not ground to a 90 angle. With that said, please don't make the mistake of purchasing a pro series and take it camping expecting a good scrapper...

Hultifors knew people were using their green heavy duty knife for bushcrafting and decided to market it. Unfortunately they stopped shipping the heavy duty to the US and you can't find it anywhere.....They strapped a nylon belt loop and changed the grip and went from charging $15 to $40 four a slightly more bushcrafty design ....no thanks ????
Very VERY dissapointing . I used to buy their knives for modding but not anymore they lost my support I buy Mora's and Lauri Puukko blades.

I've spent so much money on budget blades , the market has bottomed out with bushcraft designs.
I'm burnt out on the scandi grind market esp the budget stuff... I do want to try out Joker Knives they have a couple really nice blades the Nordico, Ember and Granfather are on my list.
I recently bought a Benchmade Bushcrafter had to reprofile that hideous edge but now its awesome.
The TOPS Brakimo is also a beast , it's a scandi vex edge . It's probably the closest thing I've seen that's worthy to be called a "survival " bushcraft knife.
I also love the Becker BK18 Harpoon
Here is my review from my secondary channel. th-cam.com/video/ekpzQSpurmk/w-d-xo.html

That knife kind of looks like what you were ended up with if you broke your K-Bar in half, then ground into a usable shape.

Maybe it’s just the lighting, but looks like you got a recurve going on that Terrasaur. What’s up with that?

In Europe it costs €22 euro. Really cheap for an amazing knife. Beste starter knife in my opinion before you buy a more expensive knife. I own one and a Garberg and Esee PR4 but the OK4 is just fine.
People look to much at brands. Once they like and love Mora they tend to dislike other brands. I own Mora, Esee, Hultafor. I dont care i buy a knife because i think i would like it and then after a long term use when it sucks then i would give it a dislike not because of brand. I get it that people like Mora but keep you horizon open for other brands.
    Mora is great not god.
By the way, the OK1 is also a great knife same knife slightly larger handle same sheath. For big hands.

  • @helderdalvares
    @helderdalvares ปีที่แล้ว

Certainly in Europe is cheaper and I got one to compare it with my Morakniv collection. The handle is great because on the extremes is a hard polymer and the rest is rubberized and give a good grip and it is big enough for my middle size hands. The handle is very comfortable when compared with the full hard polymer of i.e. Morakniv Garberg. On the other hand the blade size is small if compared with the Morakniv models more oriented to bushcraft, to be honest I was disappointed with such small blade if compared with the proportion of the handle. The biggest negative point is that the blade was not sharp at all and I was not able to cut anything and I tried to sharp it for few minutes without success, I will have to expend more time. Other negative point is that you cannot buy it with stainless steel only carbon. The sheet has a good ramp to extract the knife but certainly is cheap solution, not better than morakniv. The measurement rule on the blade is totally useless as most likely will disappear with the use. Maybe this brand is good for working tools and utilitarian knifes but for buschcraft or outdoors forget about it, buy a Morakniv. I will use it for tasks where I won't mind to destroy the knife. Morakniv shall learn a bit with the handle, nothing else I could see that might be better not even the price, I will have a better sharp tool with an Opinel for less than the half price.

Hultafors would be a easy choice if they cost the same, but where I live it's more than double and it's definitely not worth twice as much.

4:32 WRONG, Mora Robust is zero scandi grinded and Hultafors has microbevel, which is huge difference in terms of using. I don't know how u missed it. I would say it's a win for a Mora...

They look so ugly, but I’ve learned from my experience that the less bells and whistles any knife has the more it out performed my other high end knives. I find myself going for function over aesthetics.
