Brandy is close to cognac and the French have cognac sewn up. That being said I find German Brandeis are my favorite. Cheers Mark!

I have never tried a Calvados... I'm just about to start with Brandy, having received two samples of Cognac. It will be interesting to see how that goes over!

Nice Review. I Love Apples in all their forms, so usually have some Brandy/Calvados/Apple Jack in the fall. I will look out for this one.

Cheers Eric! I wonder if each distillery has their preferred varieties - one cool thing I read is one the Pays d'Auge AOC requirements is a six-week fermentation!! Pears aren't used in Boulard , I believe - but I surely would love to try the Calvados Donfromtais - have you tried that kind?

I have only tried and have a bottle Boulard Grand Solage. It very good, young and shines with heavy meals, not surprising knowing what region of France it's from. I'm definitely interested in any Cider Brandy, but I know most is farm produced like Armagnac. I read in "Distilled" by Neil Ridley and Joel Harrison that English Oak cask are sometimes used along with a huge variety of heirloom apples (bitter and sweet) are use and depending on the AOC a percentage of pears can be press, but that falls to the producers how much. AOC Pay d'Auge uses the least amount of pears in the Normandy AOC. There is also AOC Domfontais and AOC Calvados. You can also get Cidre de Normandie which is the first run off press and bottle as cider. It's like champagne. I have a bottle of Le Pere Jules Cidre that needs to drank.

Hi mark. I'm going to pick up some calvados. I've been wanting to try some brandy for quite some time. I get tired of drinking whisky sometimes. I love French cider so I'm sure I'll love this stuff.

I highly recommend the Calvados. I think this one is the last reasonably priced one before you get to the XO Auguste which is nice but so expensive. There are lots of brands worth exploring as well. Throw up a review when you get one!

WhiskyWhistle I wont be buying the one you've reviewed it's £153 here in the uk. I'm looking at a couple of others which are a lot cheaper. I'll definitely do a review in a few weeks time after I've tried some of it.
