We’ve been watching the market for four years while planning and saving to buy a boat and seriously boat shopping (with cash ready to buy) since November of last year. The absurd prices had us walking on everything in our area and we eventually decided to wait out what we expected would be a drop (we don’t have $100,000 to lose by buying high and having to sell low). I hundred percent agree with all the red flags you listed and we’ve been complaining about them between ourselves for almost a year now, my husband and I are convinced that most boat brokers are the laziest workers ever. It’s even worse when you realise that every single listing on Yacht World is broker listed as owners aren’t allowed to self list. We’ve been so frustrated with brokers not responding to our enquires on boats that I know aren’t selling (been sitting on the market for months over priced) and just being bad at their jobs in general (we lost out on a Manta 42 because the broker didn’t call us to counter offer when we were literally flying across the country to see the boat - lesson learned the hard way, boat offers aren’t like home offers, they are pretty flexible and we should have offered before buying flights). What makes use really dislike the general profession even more is realising it’s not good for anyone, buyer or seller, because we were crewing on a guys boat in Greece and he went through hell just to get a broker to get back to him, let alone even post the pictures and videos that we made for him (we were more tech savvy and as we’ve been looking for a boat had a better idea of what buyers want to see) - spoiler alert it took the broker two weeks to just upload the video we made and sent him, two weeks to upload a video that he didn’t even have to make!!! Okay anti-broker rant over. There are some good ones out there (we’ve found one in Queensland that we really like, but that’s literally only one guy that we would trust at all in this process). We also really like Yacht Hub as a listing site as they allow owner listed boats so the listings are way better and more complete than YachtWorld, however Yacht Hub is most Australia/NZ and South Pacific listings.
I found my boat on yacht hub. She turned out to be a fair deal. I flew up to Sydney and gave a handshake agreement, then paid a few days later. Sailed all the way home to Tasmania
I love your comments about YW. I am a marketing manager in the marine industry, and even with large yacht listings, we find bad photos. It's a constant battle. Let's talk details, hours, etc. My team says they don't want to share too much so that you are forced to call them. So excited for you guys!!
The common rail diesal engine was brought to market between 1998 and 2000. This is my red line on age of boats. They are considerably more efficient than the older engines.
I agree with you totally about one off boats vs production boats as well as age. The limit in age is more determined by design, anything designed much before 1990 risks not being an up to date hull design. Designers only really got their head around proper catamaran design from the 1990s onwards-- and then some of them still didn't get it....
Congrats on 30 years. We just hit 41, and haven't started large boat sailing yet. I love to see a committed couple (in clothes) having a great life, with all its challenges. I am working on a plan, and then will set up time for a consultation.
I thought Nick was going to blow away like a dry leaf toward the end there! I'm a bit disappointed to hear our guest cabin has been cancelled from the next boat. 😥
Thanks for your comments and insight. The list of what you want in a boat seems quite pragmatic. I grew up around boatyards and saw every kind of boat construction imaginable (no carbon fiber at the time though). Seeing a cement hull was mind blowing. But the ones that always captured my attention were the smaller custom steel and aluminum boats. Have you considered an aluminum cat -- something like a Mumby 47? Those seem both strong and fast. Perfect for sailing around the world.
So nice to hear someone else voice my “Debbie Downer” brain when I’m looking through boat listings. Glad it’s not just me that’s tired of the crummy listings.
Great and informative conversation guys ! I am sure you will make the right decision and hopefully will be here in Europe so we can see you on the water here. Greetings from Sardinia ! Best Ed and Patricia.
Wow congrats on your 30th anniversary ....would never had guessed 30 years. Long time follower of your channel and continue to thoroughly enjoy it and have learned so much from following both of your adventures and sailing /cruising life.
i've been looking at the market for about a year now. things are getting better but i suspect it will take longer then a few months before boat prices fully bottom out. but there should be more options right before winter sets in because people don't want to have to store the boat for the winter and would rather sell it.
Even though I am only casually looking at YachtWorld, I am amazed at how many horrible pictures there are! It would never fly in real estate. The number of just messy and dirty boats pictures is crazy. I could never do that. If I am trying to sell something, I want it to look the best it can!
Pro Tip #1: State Farm offers an Inland Marine policy on drones for $75 per year that will repair or replace a damaged drone...no out of pocket. Pro Tip #2: I bought a 2015 RV this past February. I did two, 2 and half hour face times with the owners going through the rig thoroughly each time before agreeing to purchase. Not only do you get a good feel for item being purchased, but most importantly you get a great feel for the sellers. I had a great feeling that they were honest, trustworthy and would be there for any questions in the days and weeks after the purchase. We did the whole deal in a hotel parking lot. They stayed as long as necessary to ensure I was well verse on all the components. I've been very happy with the RV.
I could honestly listen to Nicks' dulcet tones all day. I'm not suggesting he has a face for radio (which clearly he doesn't) but as a laid back presenter you have it nailed! Yes I know you do Audible. You guys just ooze calm and I love the videos, though I limit my sailing to the coast off Snowdonia N Wales, Channel Islands and Northern France. Love the tips and advice- just perfect! You're both amazing- best to you both!
Wow - what a cool house to stay in, the views of the mountains in the background are amazing! Hope your drone survived the crash. Good luck on the search for your perfect boat.
The used boat market sounds _very_ scary. Hurricane damaged boats are probably everywhere, after so many storms impacting so many regions over the years. Outright deception in classified ads must be commonplace and I don't only mean storm damage. How do you even tell if the listing is accurate with the engine time or other important information? Can a buyer really discover the truth about these details?
Thanks for another excellent presentation. I appreciated hearing your reasoning and future plans. Glad to hear that you're shopping for your next boat and planning to sail the world. We will be greatly looking forward to all of that. P.S. Electric and hybrid drives are increasingly available on production boats, not just HH, Seawind and others like Windelo. Many individual boat owners have also installed their own, as we know.
I am sailing a monohull and IMHO the biggest disadvantage is that cooking has to take place in the 'basement' even when docked or at anchor. So for me cooking down in an ama is a no go.
Thank you for tackling the advertising photo and info issue on 2nd hand boats. Been looking for years for that right boat and agree biggest issue is info not posted, photos from years back, or to those who can’t be bothered to just clean up a little before taking the pic!!! Doesn’t take much to close the toilet, move the old rag, pickup old wares etc….the moment I see that I simply move on to next boat. If they can’t care about the pic, tells a lot about how much they care about the boat….good luck in your hunt, enjoying the ride with you guys.
Having little patience for games, I just throw a boilerplate of standard questions at the sellers of some things, and wait to see which questions are not answered or are answered strangely. It is surprising how even some businesses just do not respond to logical, rational, intelligent questions.
very realistic view of not being desperate! plus the lack of guests means you can deal with a galley down. lots of people want to go but most are just talk, they just cant give up the luxury of land!
"How old is too old," is a really good question. You might want to video conference with Chris White for the audience, he'd go into detail on that issue. As you guys know, Chris always wants his boats to be built with S-glass instead of E-glass - and it makes a big difference. If the boat is built correctly, a twenty plus year old boat is not a bad choice. Just saw the core of a damaged custom catamaran and the 30 year old Nida-Core looked brand new! Heck, the Outremers are designed and built to have a 50 service life! Like the still of the barren equipment list on one of the listings - LOL!
I was laughing so hard about some of your descriptions of the boat adds. Lol. I really think the photographers have no idea how to show a boat. Even funnier is, I don’t know how to help them. All your tips are right on. Interesting fact, I sailed my Nacra 5.2 (17 ft) from South shore to North shore. Very fun trip. I think you will find the perfect boat cause you know what you want based on experience. Enjoy the hunt.
I somewhat doubt they have the money for it. The seawind is a million once optioned and the hh is even more. With the best will in the world the wynns are a much bigger channel (and I think somehow work on top of everything). So they likely have a lot more money to play with
@@pioneer_1148yea no idea what their finances look like, looking forward to see what they choose as their criteria is expensive, Also the economy looks to be heading negative and it could be 2 years before the market bottoms again, So it could be a while before they get to buy,
Those are well over $1M though. I'm buying lotto tix... The Seawind 1370 info looks very good but it would be years before a new order is available and it'll be about $800K. Max Cruise 44 is another option at about $750K.
For insane photos, Italian property listings take the cake. I've settled on the idea of a boat and a Mediterranean bolt-hole for when I'd like the floor to stop moving for a while. I'm trying to work out why I'm supposed to be turned on by extreme close-ups of part of a very worn chest of draws, beaten up old radiators, or a full ashtray sitting on a table on a tiny terrace overlooking the back of the neighbour's hovel. Strangely, despite this marketing excellence, property is really cheap down there.
I noticed those red flags on Yacht World too....so glad you talked about them because I thought maybe it was just me and my inexperienced eye. I was bummed to hear your experience making offers, we're looking for a boat and haven't yet made any offers...I guess it might not go easily. Another great video, so nice to see you guys again.
Enjoyed the video. Nice discussion on what type of information should be available when shopping for a used boat. Please follow up when you do purchase on how your boat stacks up to what you presented.
Good luck with the new boat hunt! What are your reasons for thinking boat prices are going to fall. Does it have to do with inflation, the economy and interest rates on loans going way up softening demand? A lot of people are curtailing "Discretionary" spending lately and feeling a lot poorer when they look at their investment accounts. I also suspect there were a lot of people thinking they were going to buy a boat and go off grid during C-vid and found out it was harder than they thought it would be and don't enjoy it as much as they expected to. The new boat the Wynns are having built looks pretty impressive. I will be interested to see how it actually performs once it's finished. Thanks for the video. Search On! 🙂
What a great location. You make me want to hurry up with my custom catamaran. First, the model, the naval architect, wave tank testing, etc. Hopefully we meet on the water in the not too distant future. Best wishes in the meantime from Montana !
P.S. Atlantic 55 or 57 is probably what you're hinting. Frankly I'm really starting to like it too. I don't agree with some of the arguments against galley up, but in a relatively small pilothouse/salon like the Atlantic, it can make more sense than a boat with a larger salon. I really like the social aspect of galley up, even for a couple. Also the Atlantic would be a phenomenal long distance cruiser. It has a comfortable pilothouse with great visibility, inherently safe design, efficient construction, lots of waterline length for performance, lots of room for provisions, a great forward helm station with all lines conveniently led to the mast, etc. Also easy to short and single hand due to the rigging. They're relatively uncommon and owners love them, which is why it's hard to find them up for sale. The solution for folks who can afford it is to commission a yard to build one. And that's how new ones are birthed. Everyone else is going to have a hard time finding one, as you're presumably noticing. You guys would be phenomenal brand ambassadors for Chris White, but he doesn't really have a brand or marketing like mass production boats, etc. Looks like the 57 has small, but very significant improvements over the 55. The 57 is actually lighter and has asymmetrical daggerboards instead of a centerboard.
Nice video, contents and valuable advice. Studying from your episode comparing comfort and performance plot, I believe the Balance Cat falls right into your wants and needs... Helm up on starboard (similar to a Leopard) and yet the Versa-Helm can be move down and out of the weather. And it has Dagger boards for pointing higher during tacking... Hope I didn't pull the Cat out of your bag for you...LOL 😉
Great thinking. Great living. I love the way you people think and live. Great job. As for the idea of a used boat? Keep it simple. When you get on a new boat and sail out of the harbor for the first time, you now have a used boat. So, the ONLY question t ask is, How much of this boat is used up. Even new boats require adjustments. That is what manufacturers call repairs to a boat just back from the first sea trials. Again, keep it simple. All boats require repairs. How much $ and how much time are the only questions.
Fun adventure guys! I am kinda surprised the Seawind 1260 is not on your short list. I remember that you did a test sail once and had some reservations but sometimes we think through objections over time. Well respected design, 35% less displacement than the Leopard 46 and much lower windage means a significant turn of speed and sailing efficiency. It is scaled down from the Leopard but with finer hulls and higher bridge deck clearance should get you across oceans faster and in good state of mind. Plenty of these around used but not cheap. I agree that galley down is functionally a great use of space on a cat and the 1260 galley works great.
1260 is a nice boat. Nothing bad to say about it. For us, she just can’t take a cruising load. One of our primary motivations to moving on from Clarity was to get something with more waterline and obviously the 1260 doesn’t have that either. Really the only Seawind that would fit the bill for us would be a 1600, and financially that is wayyyyy out of reach.
@@TheOKellys Same here, I think the sweet spot is a 50-55' performance cat with the interior volume/livability of a 45' production cat. Much bigger and it gets tough to manhandle the downwind sails in and out of the lockers the get so big and heavy.
@@TheOKellys Take a look at the 🇬🇧 Daz cats performance and cruising Cats They also have an unusual variation on the galley down set up ie its down but only a couple of steps.
Even for a very experienced couple, 38-39 feet is the max size, unless you’re ok with going very slow downwind (AWA 140-180). The only way a cat isn’t a dog downwind is to fly an asymmetrical spinnaker off the windward ama. Based on my observations, even very experienced sailing couples are reluctant to fly the spinnakers that are needed to move 40+ foot boats in more than very light winds (and, oftentimes, not even then). This is understandable because the sails are very large and relatively more difficult to manage. An asymmetrical spinnaker is, however, a mandatory sail for getting a cat to move downwind, much in the same way a jib or Code 0 is a mandatory sail for reaching. No one would consider sailing a cat if they only had a main on a reach. The same thing can be said about an asymmetrical spinnaker downwind. Another reason to avoid anything larger than 38-39’ for a couple is that you’re basically having to deal with and pay for a larger boat than you need for no good reason. 38-39’ is plenty of boat for comfortable and safe blue water sailing and it’s more than enough space for two people and occasional guests. There’s also the issue of safety reefing a large main in heavy sea conditions. Smaller is definitely better, no question. Last, but not least, depending on where you stand in terms of minimizing your carbon footprint, smaller is also much, much better in terms of environmental impact.
@@peterthompson5750 There are alternative rigs available and theres a lot more automation available ...such that a 72' cat can be sailed single handed..as long as its all working
Long time watcher first time commenter. Are you two still on Lake Tahoe? If you are I'd love to meet you. I have a new juice and smoothie shop in Zephyr Cove at round hill and if you're still around I'd like to buy you a round!
Sold my boat 4x without a broker and not on Yachtworld. Once with a broker and on Yachtworld. Also got paid that last time.... Lol.. brokers can't take photos. I did my own and two videos. I am downsizing! Like you said, I solo and have very few guests. Rather have something fun. So, more waterline, speed, less space, centralized... Ever see the movie Water world? You just described a Trimaran. Like with every part of your Want lists. And there not expensive cause you can't dock them. Late 80-90's boats built wayyy better. Just light enough and with real woods. Spot on! Huzzah! The lack of used engine needs replaced sooner.
Rings true! People care about a boat that they use alot. They are more inclined to repair. Whilst a boat that sits on a mooring most of its life is very unlikely to have any sort of maintenance despite low engine hours. Who knows .. the oil could be several years old in that sump! Maybe an algae bloom happening in the diesel tank. Coolants probably alkaline and the anode is gone
Interesting that you should mention it. I have emailed many brokers about boats that I have seen on Yachtworld. The three questions that I always ask if not listed is, hours on the engines, age of rigging, and age and condition of the sails. Very few have even answered even one of the questions. Not once have all three been answered, and maybe 20% reply with an angry e-mail, 30% with something that sounds like a form letter. A full 50% I get no reply. A couple that were listed for a long time and I was interested in, I e-mailed every month for six months or more with no reply. It's amazing at the number of brokers that expect me to fly to their location, rent a hotel and car with little information and poor pictures. There were a few brokers that I really wish that I could have contacted the boat owner to let them know what a lousy job that they were doing.
Yep….ugh. I try to see it from the brokers of view and have to remember that they don’t have infinite time to chat boats with people. I can tell you from selling Clarity that it is very hard to distinguish between those who are serious buyers and those that simply think they are serious buyers. How to get around this conundrum? I don’t know….include a bank statement showing your cash? I am only half joking.
@@TheOKellys I just couldn't give someone so lousy at their job that big of a commission. Any boat that I would have bought, would have been in spite of the broker. I ended up buying from an owner without a broker.
Thanks for a great channel, I really enjoy it. I like your thoughts on the type of yacht you are looking for. Have you looked at the Harryproas? In many ways they would meet most of you criteria and wouldn't cost much more to have built than the used cats you are looking for and would be more suited to two handed sailing and be significantly faster. A Harryproa 50 would be what I would look at with the dinghy built into the bridge deck. The advantages are: Fast to build; Ultra light weight; Very fast; Cheap to build; No standing rigging; Minimal running rigging and winches required and only two sails needed; adequate accommodation for four etc etc.
Sounds like an Outremer 50/55 might be in your future! The HH is definitely interesting, but if you're wanting used, I don't see many on the market. Good luck!
There are some Outremers on the market but the HH44 is too new to find used. Besides, a new HH model will be way above the budget the O'Kelly's are looking at in the used market. We're talking over a million for the HH44 optioned out, so figure just under that for a year-old boat. Amazing boat but $$$ - HH is not a brand for the budget-minded! Then again, neither really is Outremer but at least older examples can be found with lower asking prices. Hard to shop the used boat market.
30th anniversary? So you were wed as tweens! Yall are proof that laughter and love is a fountain of youth! We are also watching YW. Over here the used market has gone totally stupid! For over seven years we have followed the used cat markets and now that the issues of supply chains are so out of sorts, this seems to have driven prices up, up and away! We also noticed stock pic's and not the actual vessel for sale and we request virtual tours if available and or time and date stamped UTD pics! Missed yall and so happy to see you guys
thank you Claris. In an age when everyone has a camera with them literally ALL the time, there is no reason for a stock photo. LOL. I think there will be opportunities ahead, so we will be patient.
Happy 30th you legends! Woohoo! Could you let us know what the three boats that you made offers on were? It would be interesting to see which actual boats ticked all your boxes. (We finally closed on a boat in France a few months ago. Long, simple, fast, not too much accommodation. Would be funny if it was one of those you made an offer on!)
Thank you! ❤️ You're so helpful! I'm definitely hiring you to coach on my purchase. I fell in love with the 58 ft Leopard. They don't manufacture them anymore. I like your picture at the start of your video. Looks like a Chris White cat?
Rates are rising about the world..I think that says many will be having to "make" sales soon, or go bust.. either way, boats both on the market and yet to be, are going to start coming on cheaper and cheaper. The more those rates climb.. the sooner they'll begin to drop.. :)
Personally I like the Outremere 55’ or the Gunboat 60/62 and I would outfit them with electric drives lots of solar and regenerative props…. Oh and instead of dagger boards put in hydrofoils!
What type and size boat are you leaning towards? Antares appear a good live aboard but not inexpensive. Appears the new builts are hot right now but all over a million
Hey guys! Another keeper. I can only concur with all the Yachtworld pitfalls you mentioned. I would add that ‘If you’re a first time buyer, go through a broker’! I also want to commend you on limiting your carbon footprint by getting a pre-owned boat. And last comment, although the new HH44 looks really sweet, it is manufactured in China, given their many controversial issues I would prefer supporting an other economy…say the USA perhaps. I’ve commented this to the other sailing channel and did not get one single comment from either the sailors or any viewers at all!? Haven sailed the Med I’ve only got one comment: Get there ASAP. The little I know of you and your personalities I know you will love it. Cheers.
Hi guys, I was wondering if you found much information on the older Outremer's? I purchased a 2002 Outremer55 STD in December. Just finished our first passage to Norfolk VA for hurricane season. What an exciting experience (toped at 18kts)! I have had little success finding any information about these boats... construction, polars, manuals, build history ect. Wondering if you had any leads while you were looking at the Outremer's. still wondering if this was the right boat for our family, though I'm likening it more an more as we get the refit work done. Are you still considering the older Outremers?
watched your Oregon vid "how to buy a boat" b4 seeing this one. As this vid is just days old (post covid) I was disappointed to see your brush over of used prices. "not softened enough yet." as a newby buyer I've read the used prices mentioned in the forums pre-covid on boat sales back then; and I am shocked at how high the same boat used prices are NOW! Gotta question if i shouldn't buy a new boat with this crazy stupid pricing on used boats. First thing that stops in a high inflation economy is maintenance on a used boat; so the boat may be declining even faster in condition even as the owner "holds firm" on the CS price. Good Hunting on your next one. Try to find the printed word on kevlar hulls being hit broadside by rogue waves and popping portholes out. Makes me think a nice rusty scupper steel hull is my next buy.
Hi Megan and Nick I admire Your TH-cam Canal. Your films are very well organized, well prepared, but also fun and informative. Bravo! Let me fire away, right away. What would You say if we build a brand new catamaran? Why do I want to go the process myself. I do not see market prices going down soon. Inflation is a big theme. Starlink will make boats demand even higher (I believe). And most of all I am the kind of a person who has to do things himself. Currently, I am finishing my house in Swiss Alps (where You are always very welcome!). I have already build three smaller inland sailboats. Now ist the time to sail the seas. Building two (or possibly more) cats will make the process even more exciting and definitely cheaper (not to mistake for "cheap"). A reasonably big, well build, custom boat made to our expectations. From what I saw in your movies I do believe our needs are very similar. For example, Atlantic 72 of Chris White would be not far from my expectations. It seems to be a very big boat and definitely out of my price range. But with few simple tricks we could build minimalistic (like Vaan R5 but still cosy with a bit of luxerious additions) and simplistic (like Kinetic 62 for instace?) but seaworthy and quick catamaran. To optimize cost of build I would suggest: 1. aluminium for hulls and bridge. This metal ist still much cheaper to acquire and way quicker to work with. Moreover, no complicated and time consuming painting needed. All visible elements can be covered with foil like on the Speedlounger 850. 2. construction site in Polen. 3. Foresails made in Polen. No expensive mainsail needed. 4. possibly, unstayed wing rig made in Polen (best example of such rig would be Atlantic 70F of Chris White) Just for information, Polen is the second largest boat building country in Europe. Mostly small boats but some luxus brands build there (Vismara Yachts, Mylius Yachts, Sunreef Yachts, Southerwind Yachts, X-Yachts etc.) What do you think? Below are some links to brands mentioned earlier. Yeh it would be cool to build something at some point. Right now, for us, we are more into the sailing than the building, but yeh if you have time and money and want to….could be really fun!
Contact Tim Mummby or Looping, there is a Looping 55 out there, these in my opinion are performance cats with good sailing motion, and nice price, galley down makes life easy, also there is a sailable Chris White for under 550, thousand that is 57 feet
What about an aluminum boat like a Chris Mumby Cyber 48? Life on Jupiter has taken one from the Philippines around Africa up to the Caribbean, through the great loop. I imagine they are probably somewhere around North America still... why not take a look.
In my opinion you should buy a performance cat and then get just catamarans to upgrade it with modern hybrid electric engines with no generators needed.
Really think hybrid will be the future - especially with a performance catamaran (light/good wind performance) and if you're going to be sailing alot (around the world), regeneration will pay for itself, the generator would then become just for powering yourself at anchor. I definitely think there's a factor in older boats in that the older boats that are still around are almost by definition well built. Don't think there's anything wrong with vinylester though is there (unless you're building in pure epoxy). It's interesting that there are such poor yachtworld listings - I can't imagine that people buy yachts without doing alot of homework and due dillegence on things like rigging/sails/engine hours so it seems pointless to hide it. Similarly hurricane damagae...

With recent Lithium ion batteries and several kilowatts of solar, in any kind of sunny climate, there's already too much electricity at anchor and a backup generator would only be used for propulsion during very long becalmed passages. Current solar + Lithium boats have so much excess electric energy that they need to make more water, do more laundry, etc.
IHey put CROATIA in your search list, I've been there at 2018 , they have a great yacht life and everything is on price. The Dalmatian coast is next level.
I’d volunteer to be a guest to assist in full utility of your next craft, tho my chronic vertigo negates my sea-worthiness! Excellent analysis of questing for a new boat, and good humor.

Let's talk details, hours, etc. My team says they don't want to share too much so that you are forced to call them. So excited for you guys!!
The common rail diesal engine was brought to market between 1998 and 2000. This is my red line on age of boats. They are considerably more efficient than the older engines.
Putting time on your side when making any purchase is key to making a deal that meets your criteria! Patience is the key word!
This couple IS FANTASTIC!
Wow 41, congratulations that’s awesome!! We look forward to meeting you and your wife!
Good to know the struggles we've had in the market are shared! Best of luck on your search -
Have a look at the HH boats. They have outboard helms that can swing inside and the HH44 has an inline electric motor/ engine combination. I love it.
I don't share the same preference as O'Kellys' when it comes to yachts, but these videos are really the best when it comes to buying boats.
Hey guys! We will head over!
Wow congrats on your 30th anniversary ....would never had guessed 30 years. Long time follower of your channel and continue to thoroughly enjoy it and have learned so much from following both of your adventures and sailing /cruising life.
Well thank you!
i've been looking at the market for about a year now. things are getting better but i suspect it will take longer then a few months before boat prices fully bottom out. but there should be more options right before winter sets in because people don't want to have to store the boat for the winter and would rather sell it.
Congrats on 30 years. Interesting info on what to watch for. You guys are the BOMB.
Good luck on your purchase journey. Be safe.
Well thankye!
Congrats on your 30th anniversary!! Awesome!! 👍👍👊👊
Thank you!
@@TheOKellys 👍👍
Really like your humility and kindness! Thanks for sharing 😁
Can’t wait to see y’all go around the world. I see a lot of nice boats in Fiji always coming up for sale btw.
Hi. What you need is a Dazcat. Built at Multimarine in Plymouth in England. Take a look!
very realistic view of not being desperate! plus the lack of guests means you can deal with a galley down.
lots of people want to go but most are just talk, they just cant give up the luxury of land!
I have no intention of sailing but just love you guys and wish you nothing but the best!
A very fun and easy way to start sailing is to join a local sailing club and take lessons there. Using their boats is MUCH cheaper than renting one.
I swear you guys make the best videos. Each one is filled to the brim with useful information.
Aww thank you!
very similar situation to gone with the wynns, I’d love to see you guys in a seawind maybe 1600, Although the hh44 oc looks awesome,
That’d be cool!
I somewhat doubt they have the money for it. The seawind is a million once optioned and the hh is even more.
With the best will in the world the wynns are a much bigger channel (and I think somehow work on top of everything). So they likely have a lot more money to play with
@@pioneer_1148yea no idea what their finances look like, looking forward to see what they choose as their criteria is expensive, Also the economy looks to be heading negative and it could be 2 years before the market bottoms again, So it could be a while before they get to buy,
Most of the Seawinds other than the new 1370 are at least 20 year old designs and show it. They're good boats, but definitely not the latest thinking.
Strangely, despite this marketing excellence, property is really cheap down there.
really! Wonder if it is a cultural thing.
Nice to hear that you are following the Wynn's progress. I am too.
Have you considered NEEL Trimarans ?
Yes we have. We'll get into it with tomorrow's video.
Congratulations on 30 years!!
Thank you!
I love this couple. Very good looking, entertaining, intelligent and funny!
Good facts on the yacht listings. Love the video. So excited for your new boat.
Love this one guys!!! Can’t agree more with the photos thing.
The 57 is actually lighter and has asymmetrical daggerboards instead of a centerboard.
would be perfect for us
Great episode, and enjoy your humor also! Good luck finding the boat of your dreams, miss seeing you out on the Ocean!
Just a wonderful way this morning to see you folks moving on in your adventure. Stay well.
Love your channel! Extremely helpful information and always a pleasure to watch you two together!
Greetings from Borneo, happy anniversary to you both, we’re celebrating ours tomorrow. We’re no where near 30 years though!!
That was a looooong 2 weeks!! Thanks for the update, love watching you guys, the best part of my Monday routine
Aww thank you Brandy!
The winds kept talking about rainwater capture on the HH 44 and I can’t find anything on their website or videos regarding rainwater capture.
What do you feel the max length of boat that an experienced couple can handle (and maintain), without it being overwhelming? Also happy anniversary!
Depends on the people more than anything. Experienced? 60’ or so.
@@TheOKellys Same here, I think the sweet spot is a 50-55' performance cat with the interior volume/livability of a 45' production cat. Much bigger and it gets tough to manhandle the downwind sails in and out of the lockers the get so big and heavy.
@@TheOKellys
Take a look at the 🇬🇧 Daz cats performance and cruising Cats
They also have an unusual variation on the galley down set up ie its down but only a couple of steps.
@@peterthompson5750
There are alternative rigs available and theres a lot more automation available ...such that a 72' cat can be sailed single handed..as long as its all working

Hey Chad, thanks for the invite! Wish we had known! We were staying just off the 207. We are back up north already. Next time!
Miss you guys! Just wait it out, however long it takes. Sending love! ❤️
Ohh awesome on the circumnavigation plan.
Exactly!!....best luck
Who knows
.. the oil could be several years old in that sump!
A friend long past built one. Looks insanely cool, but I think the best trade off for us is a cat.
It’s upsetting how beautiful, charming, entertaining and just generally wonderful you both are. I truly enjoy and look forward to your content.
So sorry to upset you! Thank you for the sweet note😘
Hard to shop the used boat market.
real useful video - thanks a lot! would be interesting to know, what models you gave a bit to? outremer?
So good...you two are awesome!
Okay, but I saw wind and a lake and a bunch of trees right there. No boat?
I think this was one of your better videos. Good description of how to review YachtWorld.
Another very enjoyable, lighthearted and fun (funny) video. Megan is looking so nice! ⛵️
I would recommend being VERY patient... like 12mos or so! Have your check book ready, but be PATIENT!
Rates are rising about the world..I think that says many will be having to "make" sales soon, or go bust.. either way, boats both on the market and yet to be, are going to start coming on cheaper and cheaper. The more those rates climb.. the sooner they'll begin to drop.. :)
Can you post a link to this vacation rental at Lake Tahoe? Looks amazing!
Personally I like the Outremere 55’ or the Gunboat 60/62 and I would outfit them with electric drives lots of solar and regenerative props…. Oh and instead of dagger boards put in hydrofoils!
Who doesn't want foils for extra speed and righting moment, but have you ever considered if the _boat_ itself wants the foils? Food for thought..
I’d enjoy listening to a few moments of just the susurrating pines….like CBS Sunday morning.
What type and size boat are you leaning towards? Antares appear a good live aboard but not inexpensive. Appears the new builts are hot right now but all over a million
There are a couple of regenerative electric drives out there
Cheers.
Yes, need Megan's foot healed up and we will book flights!
thanks guys
I think you need a drone with avoidance sensors, assuming your previous ones didn't. Thanks for the video.
No, terrible boat for your family. Sell it to us. Lol. We got a couple soft leads, but nothing solid.
watched your Oregon vid "how to buy a boat" b4 seeing this one.
Hi Megan and Nick
I admire Your TH-cam Canal.
To optimize cost of build I would suggest:
1. aluminium for hulls and bridge.
4. possibly, unstayed wing rig made in Polen (best example of such rig would be Atlantic 70F of Chris White)
Just for information, Polen is the second largest boat building country in Europe. Mostly small boats but some luxus brands build there (Vismara Yachts, Mylius Yachts, Sunreef Yachts, Southerwind Yachts, X-Yachts etc.)
What do you think?
Below are some links to brands mentioned earlier.

Yeh it would be cool to build something at some point. Right now, for us, we are more into the sailing than the building, but yeh if you have time and money and want to….could be really fun!
Contact Tim Mummby or Looping, there is a Looping 55 out there, these in my opinion are performance cats with good sailing motion, and nice price, galley down makes life easy, also there is a sailable Chris White for under 550, thousand that is 57 feet
Where is this CW?
If you can make the boat light enough, hybrid works. It is the future for sure.
