Just FYI the Royal uses a skateboard wheel bearing so you can replace it for probably a couple dollars max. Free x 8 if you have an old skateboard laying around from the kids.
That was a good D/W discussion, thanks! Living in Colorado, I've put off getting a dry washer as water is pretty much the go-to for gold, but now I'm spending time in Arizona so I need to have one. From your comparison, I'm liking the Royal.
Interesting about using more fuel in the Keene. I've used my large Royal for 5 years and had to replace the cloth a couple of times but that is easy other than that it catches the small gold as long as your setup is correct and the blower is on idle, great video.
That's great Rick,I have really been enjoying beating on our large royal,you would be happy with an explorer as well.The explorer has alot of vibration and moves material great for its size.I just replaced my bearing this morning in the large one ,it still works but is noisy from the dust cover coming off.Ill use it for a backup. Awesome comment friend☺
While watching this video ya'll had me looking at my old mid-size Gold Buddy Dry-washer just for comparison. My unit was purchased new at A&B Prospecting Supply in Prescott Valley, AZ back in 2001 for around $350.00 dollars seems like. The fan setup on mine is very similar to ya'lls Royal...but unlike the Keene mine has no back air door adjustment. Words could never express my desire to get back out there and put this dry-washer to some work. Ha! Congrats to James Flanagan and safe hunting to all :>)
When using the keen I didn't leave the door open much because it caused me to crank the blower up so dam much.Thanks Alan & get out there before the rains come! Are you in local clubs ect?

Good job and thanks for the comparison. You mentioned about having the air door closed while doing the idle test. I don't think it would have let any more air escape if it had been opened only due to the fact that you didn't have the mat in the box while conducting the test, so there shouldn't have been any air to let out through the air door. I don't know , maybe I just don't understand the process very well. Either way I appreciate the time you put into making these videos. Thanks for the comparison.

The royal will do the job and very well made of high quality, the keen as well but will cost more in the long rong in fuel,silk tray replacement and a pricey rotater bearing. I just bought another felt covered metal insert for under the riffles of my royal for only $20 vs a new tray at 100s?
Happy Thanksgiving Great videos. I purchased one of those small hand run puffer drywasher and I am having trouble catching gold with it. I have been playing around with it in my back yard. Only catching about 35 to 40 percent of the gold I put into the dirt. So I am very sceptical on buying a drywasher for my main piece of equipment for production. I know you like the small Royal. I did find a little gold near Morris Town but most of it is very small and hard to catch with my hand operated drywasher. I was thinking of purchasing a recirculating system for a better recovery. Would love your thoughts. And if possible would love to see how you set up your drywashers and run them. I am very concerned that the small gold that I have found would be tough to catch with any drywasher. Thanks for any help! Red
I really prefer to run a drywasher over a reserq unit.A drywasher may miss a little but in my opinion yeilds more gold because you move so much more material. The puffer style is more finicky with damp material because they don't have the air and vibration as an air driven machine. The next video I will put a tub at the end of the drywasher than do a clean out and see what kind of loss we have,have a happy Thanksgiving Red! I definitely recommend a leaf blower style drywasher..
Drywasher Warren! If you get an okay area you will always go home with something with a dry washer, familiarize yourself with an area or more grounds than get a detector possibly it's really hit and miss with a detector but they can pay off well

I've heard it said that the static charge on the keene helps capture fine gold better. How do the units do at capturing fine gold in your experience?
