  • In this video I talk about test driving a 3/4 ton Silverado, why I didn’t buy it, and I discovered What my real problem is with the receiver hitch pin hole wear.
    Scripture of the Video
    Psa 24:7-10 (KJV)
    7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
    8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
    9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
    10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

      Agreed - the Cooper AT3's are my favorite tire. We deal with snow where I am and they do awesome in the snow. Pretty quiet also.

    I bet the 2500 6.6 gaser was tempting! The 2.7 is a solid setup no doubt! Glad ya keeping the 1500! I still love mine! The 6.6 uses ALOT of gas.

    We just got back from our first pull with our 2022 2.7 Turbo from Baxter TN to Dayton OH. Back highways for the first 117 miles through the hills and hollows of the Appalachian's. Camper weighs it at 8,400 pounds. You would not have know it was even back there unless you looked in the mirrors. My next purchase will be for tow Mirrors that are not the strap ons. Next trip for us will be south to Savannah GA. Must admit I was skeptical going from a 1997 F350 crew cab dually long bed with the 7.3 Turbo diesel. That little 2.7 actually pulls the hills better than that big diesel. She will be going up for sale very soon.

    For tires, I recommend a 10 ply Michelin Deffenders. I pull trailers daily they wear great. I also push snow, and they do well. They are just a great all-around tire.

    Hey Jeremy… I bought a 2004, 2500HD extended cab WT new in 2004 to haul my camper (which evolved into a fifth wheel over the years). Thought about going to a “preowned” diesel back in 2010 and I couldn’t sell mine for a hill of beans at that time, so decided to have a Procharger put on it. It cost me less than the difference for the diesel truck (which had 50k more miles than mine), but that was a perfect solution. Depending on how much fuel you want to use, it pulls 10k pounds anyway you want. I usually keep it in overdrive (it’s a 5 speed manual) and run the hills up at 60mph and down at 70mph. Have 65,000 miles on it now…. Trailer has been behind it for about 60k of those. Procharger was not cheap, but I have zero complaints. 6.0 L of course and I suspect the 6.6 L is a cut above.

    I like mine too. ALOT. Dam near cried yesterday when I scratched the top of the door on a tent it's parked under trying to move it over to get my bike out the garage. I know it's a truck, it's gonna get a lil beat up but still... It hurt... Lol.
    I drive like grandma so I get decent gas mileage out of the 2.7, so I'm happy with it.
    Also, go with the all terrain!

    If you have much snow to deal with the tire upgrade is for you. Go with the aggressive tread and the stiffer sidewall. P-rated tires have no business on that truck considering the way you load it.

    Great video. I am looking to maybe get into a new truck. I have an 18 LT with the 5.3. Some Chevy and ford dealerships have offered me only 23k for it. With exception of a “deal” at the ford dealership. I would get 28.5k but I had to purchase a 23 F150 XLT with 1.5k miles for a whopping price of 63k out the door with a 1.9% apr. While the interest rate was amazing I could not get myself to buy a 60k used XLT.

    Hello, I got question I have the 2.7 lt as you do, matter fact I told the last time I commented I told you your videos encouraged our interest in 2.7. So what is dry wait of your camper? We just headed north to Ohio from Florida to pick up our new micro boost, dry 7,060 weight. My 2.7 pulls it great, gas mileage not so great. Coming home i75 of course we had Kentucky,Tennessee! North Georgia mountains were my biggest challenges. My 21 Silverado HD would have struggled not quite as bad,but as I told my wife, you see these semi’s have way bigger engine than us they put hazard lights on climbing mountains. We started our trip home with camper on 10 mpg by the time we got to Florida 8mpg 😳 I’m firm believer what gas you put any vehicle gas mileage varies. After trip of course wife is sort beating me up on how truck ran with new camper, would I go back to HD? I would if I could afford the loss in trade. Reason we went with 2.7 we got a great deal and now my wife can drive the 2.7, HD she could not. Like you said about the truck you were looking at can’t raise seat so she couldn’t see at all driving it she is real short. Me not tall but I adjusted myself to see fine. Anyway long message so if you don’t mind sharing you camper wait that be great.

    • @jeremsgarage
      @jeremsgarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Walter! My camper weighs about 9k lbs on the nose. Plus or minus a few hundred either way.
      As far as MPG I get best around 62 mph and I can get close to 10 to 10.5 mpg. If I go 65 it's closer to 9, and if I tow 70 it's about 7 mpg.
      As far as hills, keep the truck under 4500 rpm for max torque. They do fall on their face above 4500 rpm.
      Thank you for watching and commenting!

      @walterkurutz307 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeremsgarage thank you, I will follow that advice. I never exceeded 4500 rpm, and 70 only happened going down mountain found that it would sling shot back up mountain 😂🤣 we leave out to Alabama first of august to start full time rving tired of busy Florida

    If you go with an aggressive AT tire your gas mileage is going to take a hit(2 MPG seems to be about average). Personally I would go with an LT Michelin LTX AT/2. A little more aggressive than a street tire but not by much.

  • @fscottgray9784
    @fscottgray9784 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    A LT tire is only rated to 75% of its capacity while a P series tires is rated at 100%. Just so you know when you go looking for tires how to compare them.

    I've been considering buying a new full-size or mid-size truck. I don't like that manufacturers are putting 4-cylinder engines in full-sized trucks. It's asking way too much from an engine with such small displacement. Using a turbo to make that small engine more powerful will be problematic over the life of the truck. After owning 2 mid-sized trucks with 4-cylinder engines and one with a V6, I'll take the V6 every time over a 4 cylinder. The new truck market is being turned upside down and I plan to wait and see how things shake out before replacing my perfectly good 22-year-old V6 Tacoma. Toyota made a mistake by getting rid of the V8 Tundra and V6 Tacoma. If they are smart, they will take a step back and redesign so they can offer those engines as options.

    • @jeremsgarage
      @jeremsgarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea, this isn’t a 4 cylinder from a Ranger. It has a bullet proof bottom end and has been out for six years. This engine originally had a 7,000 lb tow rating and GM went back and upped the rating because it was found to be more capable than they originally estimated. 6 years… no systemic issues, failures, or major problems and many of them are on the road with 200k plus miles. Many many many of them are pulling heavy trailers around the country at about 1,800 rpm at highway speed.
      Pretty amazing engine. All the experience you had with 4 cylinder in the past can be chunked out the window with this one. It is a game changer.
