I love the Dragon Khan ! This was my first B&M coaster in ‘96 , untrimmed and little mid course brake. I had 20 rides that day-10 in a row at the end of the day…it’s a long walk from the exit to the entrance.
This ride at night is the most intense ride i've been on, I've even been on I305 but this has to beat it. The amount it speeds up during the day is insane, during Halloween they even turn the MCBR off so the loop and interlocking corkscrews are pure blackout territory
Dragon Khan was probably the biggest surprise I encountered in Europe. My sister and I almost didn't find the Express Pass entrance, and we weren't going to wait 2-3 hours in the completely full standby line, so we almost left this section of the park after doing Shambhala. This ride was very smooth, I got almost no headbanging, and it had just the right intensity for someone who's not that big on positive g's. I didn't expect it but I almost found this ride better than Shambhala! My sister got headbanging and hated it though :(
I went portaventura for a week last summer not expecting much, dragon khan has been my favourite coaster in the whole world ever since I love how smooth it feels and it has perfect height and speed and a good amount of inversions, every day I went on dragon khan more then 5 times, on day 1 I rode it in the day with express and every other day I would go on the other rides in the day such as shambhala, and at night head back and do dragon khan back to back until the park closed, the most times I went on it in one night was 12 times back to back, legendary ride love it a lot
The MCBR never used to be a harshly trimmed. I remember in the early 2000's, this thing absolutely ripping through and those interlocking corkscrews were almost unbearable. Was amazing!! Rode it again last year however and the MCBR kills it. It also runs like a shopping trolly now, which is a shame.
PortAventura was Spains answer to Euro Disneyland. Spain was eventually "passed" over when it was time for Disney's 2nd foreign opening. I salivated when I found they were to get an 8 inversion coaster. Love the marquis & queue building, but they ran out of $$$ it seemed after that. Love how they put the two B&M's next to each other. I still want to ride it.
I just realized that the reason it reminded me so much of a Busch Gardens park was that it essentially WAS originally a Busch Gardens park--it was designed by Busch Entertainment and Busch was a co-owner with Tussauds, before the Universal era.
...I'm kind of fascinated now by how many B&M loopers (sit-down and floorless) use some abbreviated version of this same sequence of inversions: loop, dive loop, zero-G roll, cobra roll, loop, interlocking corkscrews. I guess, historically, Kumba came first, which is this minus the second loop. Medusa at SFGA and Scream at SFMM are too. Kraken is this minus the last corkscrew. Batman: The Dark Knight/Nitro (Imagicaa) is this minus the cobra roll and the second loop. It's like a musical composer who keeps using a certain motif. The inverts mix it up more, since the prototype there was Batman which is not quite this layout, but even a few of them use a cut-down variant of the sequence.
I think that's why they are often called cookie cutter rides. But to be honest, wood coasters often had a series of bunny hills just broken up by turnarounds so a lot of rides are repetitive if you think about it.
Dragon Khan was the coaster at PortAventura that kind of defeated me. I came off it on the edge of nausea and needing to sit down for a while. I think it was just too much. Five or six of those 1990s B&M inversions is good fun. Eight crosses a line. I don't know exactly where my line is; would probably need to ride Kumba or Kraken to find out. But I noticed that I was kind of physically flagging in the interlocking corkscrews. I do think it's telling that B&M only ever went to eight once. Things I do like about this: starting with a straight drop, and the fact that there are two vertical loops, because I like vertical loops (though the second one may have been part of what did me in). I noticed that the signage specifically tells you to keep your head back. That makes sense for a launch coaster, but I don't think it makes sense for this ride! If anything you need to keep your head forward. I did not suffer from any headbanging.
@@CanobieCoaster That'd track with my experience! I'd used the head-forward technique because it worked fine on my local B&M floorless, Batman: The Dark Knight, but that's significantly shorter.
When you mentioned floorless coasters, it made me think of Kraken. Turns out the first half is identical, except with the cobra roll being taken right to left. The second half is very close, except Kraken takes the vertical loop right to left and only has one corkscrew at the end. And for added fun, they both sit next to highly popular B&M Hypers!
Functionally I'm not sure there's a huge amount of difference between B&M's early sit-downs and their floorless coasters; the floorless was just sit-down 2.0 with an added gimmick that does not affect the experience all that much.
I'm happy to see your review of this, with how thorough and informative you are. I've always wondered how this compares to Kumba. I probably would prefer Kumba as well. Better forces, better setting, much shorter line, and able to pick our own row. The straight drop might be the only advantage that Dragon Khan has, but I'll give that up for the loop around the lift hill.
Great Review as always. It actually used to run un-trimmed up until around the time they re-painted it and built Shambhala ontop. I remember my rides in 2003 and 2005 and the second half was relentless.
I rode it in 2003 and was my favourite I've ever done at the time. It was smooth, inversions were taken with force and the 2nd half was just as good as the first. I remember riding it on a off peak day in May and it was walk on lapped it around 5 times.
@@stevieg7755 Yeah, Dragon Khan also went from being my second favourite ride back then (only behind Katun in Mirabilandia) to me getting off in 2017 thinking "what the heck of rough and underwhelming garbage was that?". No coaster has ever dropped as steep in my coaster ranking as Dragon Khan has. Even the visuals - for some reason, Dragon Khan on its own looked as huge as Shambhala does now. It towered over the park. It still looks great in combination with Shambhala, but it has for sure been dwarfed by the latter.
For me the most iconic roller coaster ever. I remember being so scared of it growing up as a child (Barcelona) knowing the time would soon come when I was finally tall enough to ride it until I did. Dragon Khan looks like a winner but I wouldn't know since I've never ridden a B&M sitdown, and I don't know of anyone who's ridden both it and Kumba to like it better. No single rider lines w 4 across seating begs the question: is it possible as a single rider to look for empty seats in the unload stn? That's something I only discovered for the this year at the two SFGAs. Now I wonder if I could've done that for Cedar Point, SFMM and Canada Wonderland. Thanks for posting!

That's more than the 7 on any other sit down or floorless but this is more compact, the layout is absolutely brilliant for that reason, and cool how it intertwines itself so much. And the most icon thing is how it's placed under Shambhala.
What do you think about: The first drop on Shambhala at Port Aventura The first drop on Dragon Khan at Port Aventura The first drop on Stampida at Port Aventura
I actually found this ride rougher than Furious Baco. For me it wasn't headbanging that was the problem, but the vibrations (which felt like it continued for the entire ride). Whereas Furious Baco had vibrations but was much shorter. Shambhala was much smoother though (and my favourite ride at the park).
I've ridden quite a lot of coasters now, but Dragon Khan was the first and only coaster that made me say "ok this one was too intense for me!" This ride has great strong moments like this wonderful zero G roll, but this is not the kind of coaster I like.
I remember before shambala was build dragon khan could easily get over 1 hour of queue, even 2. Nowadays, Shambala stole the glory but also the queues and dragon khan is normally around 45 minutes or even less.

What was your favorite coaster with inversions in the world? What was your favorite B&M coaster in the world? What your least favorite coaster in the world?
I went on this for the first time earlier this month. I was excited, but it was so ROUGH. Even in the front seat there was so much headbanging it was unrideable. I strongly prefer Kumba and Wildfire at SDC.
@@CanobieCoaster yeah it’s bizarre that section of straight track is bumpy. I also thought the cobra roll and the corkscrews had headbanging. Maybe just needs some new wheels!
I didn't headbang, but my height is such that the only coaster on which I have ever experienced a lot of headbanging was the infamous Drachen Fire, and I was riding as defensively as I could. I did think the accumulated forces were enough to get to me by the end.
I am guessing this is your least favorite of the classic B&M sit down loopers. If so, that might change if you ever make it to Dragon Park Ha Long in Vietnam to ride Dragon's Run. I heard pretty mixed reviews of that ride back when it was Led Zeppelin: The Ride at Hard Rock Park.
@@CanobieCoaster I guess I’m just greedy lol. With SFGAm as my home park, I just wish more B&Ms had those awesome 9 car trains like Raging Bull. Imagine Mako with 2 additional rows 🤤

When riding this, I was kinda disappointed. The inversions except for the zero g roll and interlocking corkscrews didn't really wow me. I even preferred Furious Baco over Dragon Khan even though I had to wait so long with express to do it. I was suprised at how the drop out the station actually had some airtime and I got nothing from the first drop. Overall it's a decent ride and its still in my top 10 (I have only ridden 28) but it just let me down.

You should probably mention that these reviews and especially your top 10 rides list are only your opinions. I know it should be obvious but unfortunately some people don't understand subjectivity. Like, how thinking that is coaster is the best in the world, doesn't actually make it the best in the world. Just the best TO YOU. once again, for most people this concept is blatantly obvious. With things such as roller coasters and theme parks, there is no objective "best" or "worst". Only personal preferences and opinions.

Shambhala going over a ride this huge is weird, but it's a fun quirk.
What do you think about:
The first drop on Shambhala at Port Aventura
The first drop on Dragon Khan at Port Aventura
The first drop on Stampida at Port Aventura
Love Shambhala's drop. The one on Dragon Khan is solid. Stampida's is underwhelming.
Would you like to ride again dragon khan in front row and back row?
I would.
I agree Shambhala is smoother than both. I don't have an issue with Dragon Khan myself, but it does vibrate in spots.
Yeah, sadly Dragon Khan is slowly feeling it's age. But if you lean forward a bit and move your head in sync with the turns, it's still amazing.
Did you like Superman la Atracción de Acero at Parque Warner Madrid and Dragon Khan at Port Aventura? What do you think?
Both are fun. Dragon Khan is better.
I've ridden quite a lot of coasters now, but Dragon Khan was the first and only coaster that made me say "ok this one was too intense for me!"
This ride has great strong moments like this wonderful zero G roll, but this is not the kind of coaster I like.
That's fair.
I think it might have been perfect for me if they'd just left off the final pair of corkscrews.
Would you like to ride this again? Front row, middle row, back row?
I'd ride it anywhere.
I remember before shambala was build dragon khan could easily get over 1 hour of queue, even 2. Nowadays, Shambala stole the glory but also the queues and dragon khan is normally around 45 minutes or even less.
I'm glad Shambhala helps with crowds.
What means that a coaster gives a 8.5 out of 10?
Great
What means that a coaster gives a 8 out of 10?
Very good
Imagine trying to ride again:
Dragon Khan at PortAventura
Batman the Ride at Six Flags Great America
GhostRider at Knott's Berry Farm
Fly at Canada's Wonderland
Coast Rider at Knott's Berry Farm
What would you think about all those?
I'll ride the other, but not Coast Rider.
Which first drop did you like more, the curved drop on Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa or the straight drop on Dragon Khan at Port Aventura?
Dragon Khan's drop
Which coaster did you like more, Dragon Khan at Port Aventura or Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion, and why? I like Dragon Khan although being a little rough ride in the rows. And did you like more Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa than Dragon Khan at Port Aventura?
I prefer Kumba to Dragon Khan (more force). And I prefer Intimidator 305 to each for the speed and airtime with that power.
Would you like to go again to Port Aventura?
Yes
What was your favorite coaster with inversions in the world?
What was your favorite B&M coaster in the world?
What your least favorite coaster in the world?
Steel Vengeance, Fury 325, Coaster Express.
Dragon Khan Ranks At 87 On My Favourite Coasters List, While Kumba Ranks At 80.
So close.
I went on this for the first time earlier this month. I was excited, but it was so ROUGH. Even in the front seat there was so much headbanging it was unrideable. I strongly prefer Kumba and Wildfire at SDC.
I only found the pullout from the first drop shaky.
Do you like the over the shoulder restraints in all coasters in the world that use and used them?
In a smooth coaster...
In a rough coaster...
I prefer lap bars.
the headbanging i got on this coaster is the worst i've ever experienced ever, having rode furius baco just before, the headache was wild
I didn't have that issue.
Even tho the size is similar, dragon khan looks much bigger with its location to me
Both look tall to me.
I only prefer Kumba of the sit-downs I've done.
How does it compare to rougarou....
Better
I still don’t get why a seemingly random assortment of B&Ms have 7 car trains.
Cost and pacing?
@@CanobieCoaster I guess I’m just greedy lol. With SFGAm as my home park, I just wish more B&Ms had those awesome 9 car trains like Raging Bull. Imagine Mako with 2 additional rows 🤤
Great Review 👏
Thanks!
@@CanobieCoaster 💙You're Welcome :)💙
Great video
Thanks!
Fun, fun, fun.
Yes
love ur vids
Thanks!
Is Dragon Khan your favorite coaster at Port Aventura, your second favorite coaster at Port Aventura, your third favorite coaster at Port Aventura, or your fourth favorite coaster at Port Aventura?
At the main park, 2nd favorite coaster.
Canobie Coaster would say:
Dragon Khan is fun and forceful
It is.
Looks like a B&M Twister roller coaster
Love the RCT classification.
@@CanobieCoaster Indeed play our roller coaster tycoon each roller coaster is in a different name roll coaster tycoon 2 is also the different name
YOU ARE AWESOME! I LIKE IRON GWAZI.DO YOU?
It's amazing.
What was your favorite inverted coaster in the world?
OzIris
Yo! Ecto!
Hello!
Surprised Baco was your top ride there.
@@CanobieCoaster Aaaa accidentally said Shambhala I meant Dragon Khan!
What are the over the shoulder restraints?
Harnesses with straps/bars over your shoulders.
What do you think about the smoothness or the roughness of:
Dragon Khan at Port Aventura
Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa
Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia
Corkscrew at Cedar Point
Piraten at Djurs Sommerland
Wild Thing at Valleyfair
Roller Coaster at Lagoon
Ednör L' Attaque at La Ronde
Ride of Steel at Six Flags Darien Lake
Silver Bullet at Knott's Berry Farm
Big Loop at Heide Park
Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Boomerang at Bellewaerde
Ednor is bad. Corkscrew can be very janky. And Boomerang can have some headbanging. The others are fine.
Dragon Khan has a secret. Move your head in the direction of the turns right before you cross them.
I was asking you about the smoothness or the roughness of the coasters.
Ok
Imagine going to Spain and ride again two coasters, Dragon Khan at Port Aventura and Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid. What would you think about both?
Really like Dragon Khan, but not Coaster Express.
Who would ever want to ride Coaster Express, nevermind ride it a second time?
What's the difference between a 8 out of 10, a 8.5 out of 10, a 9 out of 10, a 9.5 out of 10, and a 10 out of 10?
10 is perfect. 8 is great. Numbers in between cover everything in between.
That’s obvious. Nobody needs to specifically state that in their videos. It’s actually quite annoying when they do.
Some things in the video are facts like the opening year and such, but a lot of reviews are subjective based on tastes and external factors.
@@shivtim annoying to you perhaps. Not to everyone. You wouldn't believe the stuff people get needlessly angry over. Even Rollercoasters.
but I think many found to be smooth and one of the best B&M loopers
They do.
Some people found Dragon Khan with a bit of vibration
It's not an issue for me.
Imagine going again to Spain and ride two coasters, Dragon Khan at Port Aventura and Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid. What would you think about the two, in smoothness, tolerable, and how do the two feel you? What do you think?
Put here:
Coaster Express is awful. Dragon Khan is smooth and fun.
What means that a coaster gives a 5 out of 10?
