I'd like to note that this review was filmed after my 2020 rides. My rides that have taken place since have been much smoother and enjoyable.
I visit this park 2-3 times a year... literally NEVER had a rough ride, ever. In fact this is generally way smoother than the other invert in ohio, raptor at cedar point. Never even heard of this being a rough coaster from anyone i know. Very weird hearing that others have had consistent rough rides and rate it so low.
I think it's train related.

This is a very polarizing invert. Some people love it and some people hate it. It depends on who you are!

I love the ride but a little rattle
Personally I’ve ridden on every train and the rattle doesn’t bother me, so I’d say it depends on preference too
It’s because it’s more akin to one of their fliers or wingriders than their typical inverts. They tried to do something different

The crappy RCCA structure would have collapsed on the first test run 😂
It could have been an elite ride.
Probably not much, considering many of SOB's problems stemmed directly from cost saving measures related to limiting the number of concrete footers in high stress areas. Reusing footers is where RMC makeovers save millions. With RMC Ibox coasters featuring lots of negative Gs which = tension on the foundation, that limitation would probably be even more apparent
RMC sob would be great, but the structure kinda was the cause of all of SOB’s problems
This is actually my 2nd favorite invert behind Montu. I can't say i've had a bad run on it.
Even a smooth ride is a mid tier invert for me.
I grew up riding mean streak....so riding Banshee was butter smooth for me lol...I don't understand what rattle or shakiness people are talking about....I rode at probably 4x so far and it's a great coaster
A lot is smoother than Mean Streak.
Banshee is without a doubt starting to get rough. It was glass smooth at first. Ultimately the trains are directly at fault and not the track
Banshee is great, especially in the front row. The first drop in the back row is one of my favorite first drops! I never notice the B&M rattle on Banshee.
Some trains are fine.
The first drop in the back left is the greatest drop on an inverted coaster period. You actually get a stomach drop
I have never had a rough ride on Banshee. This is my first year riding it. I’ve ridden it in the front, back, middle, I’ve ridden on all the trains. I haven’t felt anything.

@@CanobieCoaster I just think that with no pre-drop, so many massive inversions, and that insane in-line twist, it’s so much more unique and exhilarating compared to other inverts.

Interesting, I always love seeing just how different everyone’s opinions are of this roller coaster. I think it’s an amazing ride and super fun, but I can see if some people are more into non stop intensity it wouldn’t be everyone’s favorite
I don't mind rides that aren't super forceful. When comfort becomes an issue, I take issue.
Rode Banshee for the first time wednesday before the incident occurred. I absolutely loved it, I didn’t experience a rattle, I rode on the teal train.
Glad it was running smooth and it was tragic what happened.

Rode Banshee today at season pass holder preview day. Even rode the teal train. No rattle, no chatter. It was my daughter's first time on it and she said it was so smooth!
It ran much better in 2021 onwards.
I think the roughness is because of the ground, KI always had a problem with B&M rattles because apparently, the ground isn't stiff enough, I think this same issue also contributed to Son of Beast's nasty ride.
Has this been confirmed the ground is different in some way?

I was at the TPR Banshee Bash the year this opened. Even that early in it’s life, the bash was dominated with conversations of how bad a brand new invert was rattling. Damn shame too, layout it great.
I agree the layout is awesome. It ran smoother for me in 2021 than 2020.
I think the problem is Kings Island's ground. All the the B&M's there have issues with a rattle. It's strange for sure
I'd say that is EXACTLY the issue! I've done commercial construction in Mason, and every site I've been on in Mason has terrible ground. In fact I heard one guy tell me on one of his sites they had to sink pilings into the ground to stabilize the structure due to how soft/unstable the ground is. But then again Im sure this isn't an issue just isolated to Mason. Mt. Adams in Cincinnati constantly has landslides.
Orion tracked smoothly to me.

@@CanobieCoaster i only got one ride on Orion so, grain of salt, but i think it's going to rattle too, and pretty quick. It didn't feel as glass smooth as Leviathan to me and i rode it in its first month.
I thought the rattle might have been because of the dirt at KI. I've heard some that have said that Orion has a slight rattle when it's literally brand new. I also have heard of Diamondback's rattle also, so I don't think the trains are the biggest problem.
Orion was smooth for me last year.
I still have yet to ride a rough B&M! I think a lot of people like to complain about B&M’s coasters having roughness hence why B&M get hate- which is why I think they are underrated! Likewise this makes me think Banshee is another example of this...
(I’ve ridden X-Flight which people claim to be bouncy yet it’s butter smooth)

I love Banshee. I especially think the pretzel knot is so cool; in an industry that always uses the same cookie cutter loops and corkscrews and cobra rolls ad nauseam! I haven't ridden Banshee since 2015 though, so it's a shame to hear about the rattle trains.
My smooth ride in 2020 was great but most beat me up.
I really don’t think the rattle on Banshee is nearly as bad as some people claim it to be. The pretzel element is also a lot more forceful than I think you gave it credit for.

The only shaky part for me with Nitro is the first drop pullout.
I used to consider this ride having a teeny little rattle, like in comparison to diamondbacks rattle that you can hardly notice. I had this same opinion for a while, and I even considered banshee better than Orion. Then, in 2023, I rode it a couple times, and it was ROUGH. I don’t know if I got bad rides mixed with bad luck, but I eventually started passing opportunities to ride it. Now I genuinely prefer invertigo over banshee. I can’t wait to get back to kings island this year and see if it’s smoother again, because I used to love banshee so much.
My 2021 rides (after this was made) were mostly smooth, but that's a shame you got bad rides.
The vest restraints really staple you to the seat and you feel every imperfection of the coaster. It has been running very well this year, signed a long time local.
I agree it ran well in 2021.
I don’t dislike Banshee, but I prefer the older, snappier B&Ms like Raptor or Kumba. Sometimes Banshee’s positive forces are too much for me and in the middle of the pretzel knot, I’m ready for the ride to be over. I rode it twice on opening day 2021 and it wasn’t as rough as it had been in 2020.
I do enjoy Banshee's layout.
I rode banshee in October 2019 and it was perfectly smooth. I wonder if I lucked out with the train or if they got all the trains running smooth that fall. I hope it's not rough next time I ride.
I got some bad rides in 2019 and 2020, but got a few good ones too
I don't find Banshee to be smooth but I also didn't think the rattle was terrible. I thought Diamondback's rattle was worse. The rattle is enough to knock Banshee down to my 2nd favorite invert behind Montu. Banshee has my favorite layout for an invert, but that's just my preference. I know not everyone would agree.
I also love the vest restraints. I have had many issues with headbanging on B&M inverts in the past, so they were one-and-dones for me back then, except Montu. I have since gotten better at avoiding headbanging with B&Ms hard OTSR, so I can enjoy the others now as well, but it took some practice.
I don't mind the rattle on Diamondback since it's only in a few valleys for a second. Banshee in a bad train rattles for a large chunk of the ride.
I've never felt any rattle on a B&M except a little while going down Diamondbacks first drop- and it's never bothered me or taken away from the experience at all. I love Banshee, not familiar with the rattle you mention- hope you get better rides on it next time!

Best is Boulder Dash. Followed by Roar-O-Saurus, Wooden Warrior, Excalibur, Yankee Cannonball, Thunderbolt, and Wildcat (distant last).
The B&M’s at Kings Island are the ones with the rattle but every other B&M does not have a rattle and if they ever did it might be the train wheels that might need to be replaced but most B&M’s are very smooth
I agree most B&Ms are very smooth.
I've always found Banshee a little rough. I found it rougher in 2016 than 2017 so I think the theory that it has to do with the trains is likely correct, although I'll also mention the possability of it being the ground it's built on. Son of Beast was built on the same ground so that's the constant.
I got good rides this year.
@@CanobieCoaster The inconsistancy probably has to do with the trains and how they're rebuilt in the offseason (as we know they are). The constant rattle is probably related to the ground the coaster sits on, and that same ground probably contributed to the roughness on Son of Beast too. It's nothing that makes it unridable but let's say I could not do multiple-ride ERT on Banshee without taking 15 minutes between rides.
Have you read it this year? I dont know what they did, but although i might have agreed with you last year, this year the few rides i got on it were really smooth! It still has a slight rattle but i barely noticed it.
I plan to go back to Kings Island later this year so I hope it runs better!

I love this thing, but I too had one notably rough ride in the back row. I usually prefer the back due to the airtime you get being yanked over the main drop. What coaster forum is the most up-to-date/ would you recommend regarding KI to find out which train is janky? Will be visiting soon

I've ridden Banshee a lot since this video (most recently in August 2022) and haven't noticed a rattle. Maybe they fixed it? This is my favorite U.S. B&M Invert, ahead of Montu, Afterburn, and Talon. Banshee even cracks my top 20 coasters overall. Love the experience it provides: 3 trains, friendly staff, quick dispatches, long ride, awesome first drop, nice scenery, and I can marathon it vs. I'm usually done after 2 rides on other B&M inverts.
The trains on Banshee feel well designed - like B&M learned from past mistakes and listened to feedback. Usually if you sit anywhere but the front row on a B&M invert, your view is the support of the seat in front of you - not ideal, so the best seat by far is always the front row. But Banshee trains have 2 supports per row instead of 4, so you get a decent view in any row. I still prefer the front row on Banshee, but barely, as the back row is more intense but without the substantial "view" penalty like on other B&M inverts.
My only complaint with Banshee is they still have a bunch of unused Son of Beast land. Add a B&M Wing in there Kings Island!
My 2021 rides were smooth.
I was just at kings island this past Labor Day and I thought banshee is probably the most intense invert I’ve ridden and that includes a pretty solid list. I loved it. Very smooth ride

Here’s a funny story. I met a 6/8 coaster nerd at Kings Island one time and he was measured and was inches above the 6/6 limit but the op let him ride. He still made him take his shoes off probably to be extra safe. Unfortunately after getting off he couldn’t find his shoes but he saw a short person walking down the ramp with them. He confronted him and the thief jumped at his height, dropped the shoes, and ran. He was later thrown out. In my opinion if you see shoes that large lying around don’t steal them cause the owner likely isn’t a person you want to mess with.
I never thought someone would try to steal shoes.
I texted a bunch of people about it and they all said the same thing.
I don't see this topping Montu for me when I get to ride in June, but damn is that a top 5 color scheme.
Montu is one of the best inverts.
I'm really surprised at the mixed attention Banshee gets. I rode it twice on my first ever visit to Kings Island in June 2019 and I loved it. My wife and I agreed it was the best invert either of us had ever ridden. Now I'm not saying I'm the most seasoned in riding B&M inverts but I've ridden a decent amount and I found Banshee tons of fun and smooth. I vaguely remember their being a slight rattle in some sections. I generally prefer wooden coasters to steel coasters though so I'm not going to complain about some steel coasters being more dynamic. I actually enjoyed Vortex and was sad to hear they were removing it.

Banshee is my number 1 B&M Invert, and my number 8 overall. I love high intensity and Banshee delivers. My only issue is the vest restraints, but not much as i just move around as needed.
It rode better for me in 2021.
I normally ride inverts once for tge credit then move on as they’re not my cup of tea. But Banahee really wowed me when I finally got to ride it in 2022. It was butter smooth in the back row but also, that layout was great! Definitely the only invert I’d like to revisit.

I noticed similar shaking on Raptor that was really loud and made for a horrible ride. However, it was gone on my next visit. I assumed it had something to do with wheels that needed to be changed out, which they do several times a season. Maybe KI doesn't change the wheels quite as often as CP?
Raptor has always been smooth for me.
I enjoyed Banshee over Raptor. I’ve only ever had 1 ride that rattled to the point where I got a headache. Every other time has been very smooth, or had a slight vibration, but nothing bad. It’s one of my favorite B&M coasters!
I usually like this ride.
I was at Kings Island 2 months ago and I rode Banshee 4 times my first 3 rides were in the purple train and it seemed very smooth, but when I took my forth ride I was in the blue train and it seemed a little rough but other than that Banshee is my favorite roller coaster at Kings Island next to Orion and Diamondback.

I probably had the worst experience on this ride. I only got 1 ride in 2020, and I don’t remember which train it was. I do know that I was stuck with row 5 since the worker didn’t accept my request for the front. As a result, it’s my 2nd worst coaster I’ve ever ridden.
At least the vests prevent headbanging.

Yes, but the Gs in the valleys are strong still.
Banshee's rattle is polarizing. When I wrote it it wasn't noticeable whatsoever, In fact I'd call banshee butter smooth. However, this was a few years ago.
The size of banshee compared to other inverts is what makes it special to me. The 150-ft drop when paired with the 209-ft high difference makes this feel almost like a hyper inverting coaster. Every element takes ages to get through because its such a huge ride.
It seems to be train related.
Row 2 this past Sunday was extremely smooth.

@Tyler Lindgren I've tried narrowing it down by train but the "rattle" is so inconsistent that I think it has more to do with the weight distribution among the length of the train. Rows 4 and 5 accommodate bigger riders and I believe it's for a reason. Ops should direct larger riders to those rows if possible. Not an engineer or anything just a theory of mine.
I hope it rides better when I go back.
Ive riden every train just this summer alone and have never felt a rattle in fact its become a family favorite coaster. But thats the cool thing bout coasters each persons experience can be different
I'm curious about your thoughts on Banshee vs Alpengeist. I find that I absolutely love Alpengeist in the front row but everywhere else I really don't like it. I don't find the difference to be quite as dramatic with Banshee between rows but I think they have some similar advantages and disadvantages overall.
Alpengeist's first half is super intense and I find it's smoother more consistently.

Iv ridden Banshee about 4 years ago and 7 months ago. Banshee was very smooth the first time I rode it but it sure had that rattle the second time. That B&M rattle doesn't bother me that much though. I remember this ride being pretty intense and overall, this ride imo is just so underated. It's not whippy like the other inverts on the inversions but the drop in the back has good whip. But this ride isn't like the other B&M Inverts, instead of whippy inversions, they are hangtime filled. And that uniqueness is just so different but so good. Having a streched out layout with 7 inversions and still strong positive Gs and ending it with an amazing hangtime filled in-line twist, this ride is just so different and such a creative layout.
I don't mind a shake here and there, but Banshee's rattle is worse in a bad train.
I usually love inverts, especially the 7 inversion monsters, but this ride is a bit much for me. The valleys are super forceful and the inversions are very drawn out, these combined with the rattle make me pretty dizzy by the end. And it’s not helped by the vest restraints which really don’t belong on inverted coasters.
I do love the layout.
Maybe I should try other seats to feel the rattle. I'm always in the front. Idk its tied for my favorite ride. I just don't like the tight feeling after the ride waiting to un load.

For whatever reason, I really feel like kings island is such a polarizing park and people judge the rides more because of that. In no way is banshee rough. Is it smooth? Of course not, but rough? No. The worst invert? Absolutely not. I respect the opinions of others, I just don’t agree at all and think people really judge kings island over harshly.
Personally, I have ridden 3 inverts, Banshee, Afterburn at Carowinds and Raptor. I consider Banshee to be the best just barely over raptor and substantially over Afterburn.
Banshee when smooth is a mid tier invert.
It's rough to me. I wouldn't discount people's opinion just because the park is polarizing. I'll genuinely get a headache if i ride it more than once. And it's not some kind of bias against the park because Diamondback doesn't have that problem and it's a great ride. Mystic Timbers is my favorite woodie I've ever ridden. But Banshee is just a rough ride
I rerode it last weekend and there was a vibration but it didnt ruin the ride but i felt like it kinda lacked intensity outside of 2 moments

I went to kings island yesterday. The rattle was loud but I honestly thought it went well with the theme. Because it does kind of sound like a scream

In 2019 I did not like this coaster whatsoever which was unfortunate because I've always loved loved loved b&m inverts. However, I got the chance to reride this a few weeks ago and now it's my #25 overall and I absolutely love it

That stinks it's not riding well this year.
I don’t mind the roughness on banshee, but my thighs and the surrounding areas were completely crushed. It completely ruined the ride and that’s honestly really sad, because the layout is one of the best on any invert. Especially when the crew was in no rush for checking restraints and I was stuck on the brakes for 3-4 minutes, practically suffocating.

My rides since I have made this review have all been pleasant.
Best ride at kings island hands down. I have vertigo and I have ride this several different times and it has no affect on it at all. Wooden coasters seem to have a lot worse affect on it. If given a choice between one coaster to ride through out the day this would be it. Also detected no rattle at all
The bad rattle I described in 2020 was not present in 2021 thankfully.
I seem to have great luck with Banshee as it is in my top 5 favorite roller coasters. The last ride I had on it was in 2019 and I had a great time on it!
I’m nervous heading back as I don’t want Banshee to break my heart.
I'd say to try multiple trains if needed.

And I (beeping) hate B&M rattles especially on Rougarou. (That’s a B&M shaker) Because of that shake, Rougarou is my least favorite coaster period. (Worst than any Vekoma I’ve ridden)
It would break my heart if I re ride one of my favorite coasters then it turns into one of my worst coasters.
The restraints are the biggest killer for me. Love Banshee, but I absolutely can not stand those stupid vest restrains!

I rode it twice yesterday and it felt like it was going to rattle itself apart. Unsurprisingly it was a walk-on all day. Cedar Fair needs to fix it because it didn’t use to be this way.
It seems so hit or miss.
The harness is very comfortable, no head banging or ear banging like Raptor.

Somehow this ride lost to Flying Turns at Knoebels for best new 2014 ride. But if that ride wasn't in the poll, which coaster do you think would've won? This or Goliath at Six Flags Great America?

I view that one as suspended. I agree it hangs below the track.
The gp can't tell the difference tho. Just because you view it as this or that as an enthusiast that runs a channel on coasters.... Doesn't mean they were missing this before. ;) Good vid tho
Kings Island isn’t far from my house and I ride Banshee all the time. The rattle never bothered me much and it always takes me by surprise when people call it rough. Regardless, it’s still my least favorite invert because the elements are too drawn out to do much for me. I prefer smaller, more compact inverts for the whippy and feet ripping inversions.
2020 was the worst year for it. It was fine in 2021 when I rerode it.
Rattle has never bothered me. I'm not sure when that became such a thing for enthusiasts, but to each his/her own. Rough, as in headbanging, is a different story lol. My experience on Banshee in 2019 wasn't bad at all, but it just didnt do anything for me. The first drop was great though. I guess I prefer the 90s B&M inverts. They have an intensity that the newer ones don't imo.
I love the layout, but some trains seem to rattle very badly.
B&M rattles can give bad headaches to some people. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it unfortunately does to me. That headache is the worst feeling to have for me. Rough woodies jackhammering don't cause me pain, but a strong B&M rattle does. I wish it didn't.
So, it’s the closest thing to a inverted hyper coaster with the difference in the highest and lowest points??
Alpengeist is close on height alone.

Unfortunately I had a real rough ride yeah banshee is rough but my ride was much rougher then you would think. It was rough like the Boss at Six Flags st louis! I find the Batman clones to be better then Banshee

This whole comment section is made up of angry KI fanboys lol. I've been going to KI for 5 years now, and every single time I get at least one unimaginably rough ride on banshee. As in, shaking my teeth out of my skull rough. I'm glad you have the courage to voice your honest opinion, thoosies just love KI/CP way too much.
My home park is Kentucky Kingdom, and I can say with 100% confidence that apart from the thigh crushing, T3 was smoother than Banshee. And it's not even close.
I got better rides in 2021, but the ones in 2020 were not ideal.
I rode the teal train in the back this year and it was smooth, whereas last year it was awful. I think they must’ve done something over the off-season
It really shows how important the trains and when you ride Banshee is.

I love Banshee, don’t understand the hate some enthusiasts throw at it. Other than most so-called coaster enthusiasts hyper analyze every inch of a coaster and criticize the tiniest little bump, shake, or shimmy. Just sit back and enjoy the ride and be happy parks keep building these awesome machines.
My 2020 rides were brutal, but I liked it again in 2021.

Wow, 6. Such a shame about the rattle though because the layout is so original. I hear a lot of people talk about the 'B&M rattle', but the only time I experienced it was on Black Mamba. It used to be one of my favourites, but one year it was totally unbearable, I came off seeing stars.
Banshee is particularly frustrating since it varies so much by train.
The shaking and tight vest restraints ruined it for me. Definitely my least favorite invert

The restraints absolutely ruin it for me. Those vests don't give off the same intensity as a normal OTSR would. It's a shame, Banshee could have been world class.

I don't find it rough at all. It's actually my favorite inverted coaster. Actually my favorite all around. To me the "roughest" B&M is Incredible Hulk at Univerals Islands of Adventure. And that's after the rebuild.
Banshee ran smooth for me in 2021 thankfully.
They need to change out the wheels of the trains. That’s probably why the trains got a little rattle.
I would not be surprised if that is an issue.
From outside the park the size of this coaster is intimidating wait till you go there it's massive like alpengeist at Busch gardens

This situation reminds me of steel phantom. Some loved it and some hated it.
Except that was an issue with the profiling rather than specific trains.
Our opinions are very similar with Banshee. My 2020 ride on Banshee wasn't good. It was in the back row and it jack hammered all over the place. Pre 2020, I really enjoyed Banshee and it was my second favorite B&M invert, but if it keeps riding this way it will be my least favorite in the US.
It's frustrating because the layout is so good.
@@CanobieCoaster The drop is incredible and the I love the last inversion. I agree. I will be watching which train I get more closely if I go in 2021, which looks like it will be the case in late August.
No rattle on Banshee will compare to the car crash that was Raptor in 2020. To this day it’s the only coaster that has made me sit down for awhile after one ride. Truly awful.
Yikes! It was smooth for me in 2019.
I've had smooth rides and horribly rough, headbanging rides on Raptor.
Shameless ride and age very well but honestly I’d probably have it in mid tier even if it was completely smooth because it just doesn’t look like it has the whip or the forces of older inverts

banshee made me grey out twice, almost thrice. This thing is a powerhouse, I'm convinced if that pretzel knot was just a little bit faster or tighter, I would've blacked out.
The ride definitely has good forces and it ran smoothly last year.
I never thought Banshee was rough. But very forceless.
I find it moderately forceful and love the layout.
i did not have a bad ride when i went earlier this month i love the back row 8 anyday
