Ricky Carmichael is the pinnacle of greatness. to just dominate ur sport for 10 consecutive seasons at the highest level is almost hard to comprehend. nobody could match him thru an entire series. once he overtook McGrath in 01 the worst place he could finish was 2nd or 3rd, and that's if he crashed. he crashed and still won many times
That’s a young Ryan Dungey he’s sitting there in the trailer with when they zoom out on his championship plate, crazy to look at that shot and see the present talking to what would end up being the future
At the time I just wanted to see him get beaten, of course I admired him but for me it's about seeing the underdog succeed. now I'm teaching my son about how tough Motocross is, what you have to put in to get good results and I use RC as the example of what it takes to reach the top.
When I was growing up, guys who rode motocross were the coolest guys, think about it having a dirt bike was cool, , and through out the years al the motocrozsers who ever raced, and this Ricky Carmichael, this little guy, showed all of them, the whole world, undefeated seasons, the most championships, c'mon I'm sure they tried to make fun of him and what not, but boy did he prove to everyone, the GREATEST OF ALL TIME, wow, , unbelievable,. I'm jealous
I was at Glen Helen raceway back in '04 tuning for a privateer in the 450 class- I was in the mechanic's signaling area next to Mike Gosseller with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd moto, Ricky was leading by probably around 20 seconds, on his way to his 24th moto win, and I couldn't believe how hard Ricky was still hammering out the laps, like he had a hourd of riders right on his ass- Rigjt after Mike gave him the 2 laps to go signal on the lap board, I walked over to Mike and asked him why in GOD'S name was Ricky still riding as hard as he was, even with such a HUGE lead- his response was because Ricky not only wanted to win, but he wanted to DECIMATE the entire field so they had the entire off season to think about what they needed to do the following season, which of course nobody ever did -
Just think what #7 could have been if he had RC head space. I also think if #7 got busted at the beginning of his career for Meth he would have average. Don't give me the he had a script BS. It's illegal in the sports bylaws period.
Had the pleasure to meet him yesterday! Such an amazing guy. Gave me his goggles and signed then.
Jeremy McGrath was great but Ricky is the greatest
Ricky dominated because he didn't cry about the conditions of the race tracks. He raced and practiced in the most rutted and narly tracks.

Nobody has been able to surpass his ability (yet)

He should have at least finished his last season and put another champion ship on his wall.... and bank account.
Guess he was satisfied & paid well enough.
RC still ridin the 2stroke Fuck 4stroke
Love em both. Own em both. 2strokes rules tho;)
The guy definitely had/has a good head on his shoulders! Always enjoyed watching him race.
