Well, in snake eater, for example, Snake has a bomb of a woman, half naked besides him...and he goes all gaga over gun. Not to mention that apparently he believes in Santa (or did until the events of peace walker). But hey, thats my opinion.
+Devilishman He does look at her breasts and butt on several ocasions if you press R1. He did not give her affection until the end because he suspected of her, he finally trusted her in the end and was betrayed.
And how vengeful he is. We didn't need any follow-up games to assume what he was going to do, and that he would become Big Boss from this. I think mgs4 and peace walker actually hurt this ending.
Kujakuseki01 peace walker doesn't really do much to make an impact on the series, but the ending of chapter 5 does kind of hurt it, it was mostly just to explain how he built outer heaven, which really makes me wonder what the hell he was actually doing in mgs 5, I haven't got to the end yet in that game, but I know the twist and it was a really dumb twist I think
And Then He Died.(**SPOILER**Well actually there is a lot more than that,Some shit happend he got burned and went into coma and was kept alive through nanobots, then he got revived and then he died of OLD AGE.)
and with that big boss repeated history by making him self the number 1 enemy to unite all the nations against a common threat , just like the boss did.
Kojima really depicts the broken soldier VERY well. A lot of American soldiers, even in victory, comes back a shell of their former self, which is portrayed magnificently well by Snake.
Single handedly THE most powerful ending to any game. I remember when I first watched this, and learnt the truth about Boss's defection...I literally teared up and blubbered lol. NEVER saw it coming. What a game, what an ending. Still gets me every time :)
Hard to believe this was almost 10 years ago. First game to bring me to tears because of the true mission. I suddenly looked back at the other games and saw Big Boss as a hero. Love that they're exploring that with the new games.
I first didn't think i will cry about the ending as i already heard about the ending in a video but the way the whole cutscene played just really put me down
I gotta say, when I first played through the game, the salute isn't what got me. What really hit me hard was Snake's nihilistic stare as the press was taking photos of him and the smiling President.
+JiggyStash Especially if you talked to EVA in the beggining and Snake asked how could someone defect and betray their country like that, and she said her eyes were oppened and that was the reason. I guess he finnaly understood by the end and ended up going rogue as well.
Ch4os4ever bro, that part was so fucking sad, realizing Merica had planned this all along, and he has to shake hands with those fuckers, knowing they fucked him and lied to him, after losing his eye, getting into pain unbearable for anyone, losing his mentor and mother figure, losing the girl he loved, having no one and becoming alone, all he could do is shed tears for the boss, man that is unimaginable, like i said this scene was the only game/story/movie that has ever made me shed a tear, i doubt anything else will ever surpass this
+ JiggyStash But the two are kind of linked. When Big Boss salutes the president, there's just this underlying contempt and sense of literally 'just going through the motions'; there's absolutely nothing behind it. But when he salutes at the bosses grave, it's an authentic gesture of reverence and respect.I think now nowadays it could have been conveyed even better with the subtle animations we're capable of now, but the fact that they were able to do it with the resources of the time is just cool as hell. And honestly, one of the stars of the show that holds this entire sequence together is that god-tier musical direction.
I'm not crying when Mufasa died on Lion King,i'm not crying when Littlefoot's mother died on Land Before Time. But when Snake took a salute in front of The Boss grave,i just lost it. #Salute
Man, im pretty sure a plot like this happened to several actual people that we just dont know about, man this is so real and possible, thats why it hurts soo much
+Pujianto Gonawi when this game came out i was so excited, playing through it... it was such a master piece, all the intertwining stories, the love, the respect, snakes relation ship with the boss, eva, and ocelot, it all built up to the end, and then they dropped this, i cried for the boss and i cried for snake too, because in the end hes the only one who knew but could never say, ocelot didnt know and that was his mother! just so beautiful and fulfilling, making me happy and sad at the same time, one of the greatest video game stories of all time, or one of the greatest stories of all time.
as much as i love Solid Snake, i feel that we got to see more of Big Boss so he feels like a more fleshed out charecter, in the middle of a fight or when something happens that works out in his favor by accident he smiles or some times look alittle confused, we never see that with Solid
Snake didnt put him down though, yea sure he pretty mich dismantled his operations but not actually put him down. He killed venom snake in mg1, he confronted big boss & had a showdown with him sure but boss faked his death and didnt die by a lighter and spray lol he died because of foxdie injected in him.
Still gets to me. After a fucking decade, still gets to me. Just his facial expressions when receiving the commendation. That's the face of a broken man. THE FEELS!! T_T
None of the MGS games had an ending as amazing and as sad as this. A true masterpiece. I think to a lot of us it was more than a ride, more of an incredible journey and feels ride...Oh yeah, fuck you Konami.
+R4KID mgs 4 ending more tragic and unpredictable . Mgs 3 masterpiece , true, but when I first saw walkthrough Boss betrayal sooo predictable , like James Bond's movies or like one of spy movies (MY opinion ). But , yes , ending sad and great.
Nah, MGS4's ending was so cheesy that it was predictable to me immediately. Solid would try to kill himself, only to find out that he doesn't need to and can die later off camera because that's a less brutal but still somber ending, also Big Boss appears because retcons and feelz and fanservice. MGS4's ending felt forced, poorly written, and dumb, and while this could end up being predictable later on, it doesn't make it any less tragic and effective. MGS3's ending is perfect.
While MGS4 feels more bittersweet and a conclusion this ending is next to perfect and dramatic in a good way. MGS1 is good but I feel like they shouldn't have killed Liquid off so soon.
I remember crying in this ending. I was so shocked with that twist in the end. I was played by the boss as well coz i hated her for defecting and abandoning snake. Then just to be told that she didnt, that it was the greatest sacrifice. And no one will know her story, just snake. Damn.
In a single tape, Snake came to know that his lover as a traitor and the woman who he thought was a traitor was the only one who actually was supporting him. Zero and the other end up just to be Big Boss's acquaintances, ultimately not friends. But The Boss (as well as Ocelot) was more than that.
This game is definitely the best in the series for me. The start of the patriot big boss. I really don't understand how people could play call of duty when this game play and story telling is so well written. My favourite game series. Such a sad story. Of the boss defecting to save her country. And this game shows snakes emotions of having to kill his former mentor so well. I've never been impressed this much from one game before. The music the cut scenes the game play elements. Hats off to kojima and the team. Bravo!
I love how at the start of Snake Eater he asks Eva, "Why would anyone defect? Betraying your country like that... I just don't get it." And at the end, he finally does get it... The U.S. Betrayed him, and so Snake lost all his loyalty. He realized that governments are just people, and aren't always worth dying for. So he devoted the rest of his life to liberating soldiers like him. Holy shit, right?
Anyone else still crying to this after so many years? Each time I see this ending I shed manly tears , the best ever... Still the greatest ending to a video game.

@@julianmenes5605 the boss lo perdio todo 😢 , cuando a snake le dan su medalla y su nuevo titulo de soldado legendario y le dicen tu estas incluso por encima de the boss puedes ver en su cara como diciendo ¡eso jamas!
A lonely well trained soldier that had no one else but a mentor and a will to serve his country. Found out , that same mentor who he grew to admire and appreciate and was known as the best soldier in American history , had to be deemed a traitor by her own country due to a very serious unsuspected incident that needed a sacrifice to prevent a full blown nuclear war. Even though the real story under the surface was she sacrificed not only herself but also her pristine image as a patriot and set up an elaborate plan to set up her own funeral by one of her best son like comrade . On top of that , that very same soldier found love for the first time and realized in the end of all this mess, he was just being used this whole time. And survived through countless of close calls where he stared death in the face each time and yet showed not one emotion but fear and bravery .The military/ US government molded him into a literal killing machine with barely a social life and seeing his own mentor and mother figure as well as his only love, disappear in front of his innocent naive eyes hurts just even the coldest of hearts. This game got too real in a instant with this ending and snake's tear and salute was very heartbreaking and amazing to see . I truly love the dedication that this game put into this compelling story that seemed far-fetched at times but truly in the end of the day was a remarkable story. By far one of my favorite games of all time
That ending literally brought tears to my eyes. Most movies are not this good. This is amazing story telling. Certainly the best of the series and probably one of the best games ever made. Too bad Konami fucked over Metal Gear Solid. RIP The Boss, Big Boss, Solid Snake, and the rest of the franchise.
In a way everthing in the game could have happened, since they are all cover ops, everything is classified. As far as we know Solid Snake might be starting Operation Liquis Snake (MGS4) as we speak
When we all played mgs1, none of us thought that it could possibly have been surpassed in its story. Msg3 may not have surpassed in plot, but this ending outdid anything and video game has ever done. Mgs3 is easily the greatest video game ending in the history of games, largely due to Harry Greyson Williams.
I think this story is better much more human and grounded. Prequels usually have that luxury though since it's pretty much anything goes as long as it dosent affect the other games continuity.
That beginning scene though, Snake finally gave in after everything EVA had ever tried to do to get him to sleep with her, and when he finally does it she betrays and leaves him, forcing him to grieve his relationship with her, his government and his mentor. I just wanna give him a big hug!
They gave him a title for killing his most beloved mentor. They gave him a medal that would forever remind him of that horrible moment. They willfully hid the truth from him even after the fact. (even though they had to, the point remains) And no one would ever know the true origin of the title "Big Boss". No one, but him.
Almost all the mgs games have great endings. Especially 2-4. 2 was an excellent ending with a great message. 3 was just beautiful and while 4 was a bit messy it was a fantastic conclusion to snakes story(kind of a good way of summarizing the game as a whole)
This is it. This is one of the most tragic, beautiful, emotional and depressing endings i've ever seen. It's been five years since i finished MGS3 and i still get chills everytime i see the ending or listen to the bgm.
I think this is one of the best if not the best video game ending ive ever seen! I cant say the number of times ive played through snake eater over the yrs!
I think what hurts the most is Jack thinking to himself “what do I do now?” Now crowned the title of big boss for killing someone he loved very much definitely made him feel so lost and unable to cope with that. No wonder why he started his soldiers without boarders, it’s just so sad it never could’ve last because of the times.
I still remember playing this and my jaw dropping when they revealed that The Boss wasn't really a traitor but the greatest hero on a top secret double agent kamikaze mission for the US. I always cried around 14:45
I remember disliking the Boss because she was a traitor when I first played this game, but she still had a somewhat likeable pressence about her. Then when she gave her final speech and I was like; well shit, maybe she ain’t all that bad. Then we got to this point and it just devastated me. Kojima did a superb job in creating a character with such a powerful story, so much that it even influenced me growing up.
These were the saddest 15 minutes of the entire game, I still remember the tears falling down my face, especially as more fell when he saluted. So fucking well done, no other game got me this emotional. Even movies don't get my tears to fall.
One of the best scenes in gameplay history. So much is revealed in just these 10 minutes to not only Snake but us as the players. You really didn't have a clue what was the boss's true ambition and finding out she was just a disposable pawn in the government's cover up made not only Snake but the player break. It makes you double take all the engagements you had in the game and reevaluate them knowing that now. Did she actually lose to Snake or maybe just let him win? So much Snake has to process whilst going back and having to lie to everyone (as if he reveals it, it would likely cause WW3) so has to look at everyone in that boardroom (president included) and know they were all in on it and he's just as disposable as she is, if needed. Truly amazing. I think this may be the only version of Snake that cries (the original).
Such a sad ending - one in which the protagonist is completely and utterly traumatized by the action of the story. Not damaged beyond repair, but close. They wronged him so badly that he couldn't even celebrate being successful in averting a nuclear holocaust. "Jack - or should I say Snake... you're a wonderful man. Kill me now. There's only room for one snake and one boss. " Imagine hearing that from someone who literally raised you. Imagine that being your rite of passage as a man. Its absurd to think about it outside the world of MGS, obviously, but in a well made game you end up feeling things with the protagonist, especially if the road to the finish was difficult.
He went from an enthusiastic, badass soldier at the start of the game to a broken soldier at the end and future games... Has to be one of the best character development in gaming history
I cry every time I see this ending it truly is sad when u find out the true that she was still serving her country like a true hero but she is still branded as a war criminal :(
In video game we have The Boss, in movie we have Snape, and in anime we have Lelouch and Itachi... But at least Snape and Itachi's name are cleared up, not like The Boss and Lelouch :(
No matter how many times I watch this I actually start crying in the middle every time and burst into tears when Snake sheds a single one... In a way, Snake, just like The Boss sacrificed himself for this mission... "Ever since I killed The Boss... I was already dead..." Even The Boss herself notices this, she gives Snake the Patriot rifle, as a symbolic way of not only suggesting, that she did what she had to do for her country, but to show Snake, that he fulfiled his duty as an American soldier... It's just so sad to see two wonderful people get used by the government in an attempt to snatch money from their competitors...
You aren’t just watching a video game ending. You are watching the death of a man. You are watching the death of everything he believed in. You are watching the beginning of a monster being created to fight the monsters of the world.
I never played any of the MGS because i was young and poor did not knew they existed i just saw this scene for the first time and teared up like a baby.
The best metal gear solid story out of all of them. When Eva started breaking down about the boss living on in snakes heart it was like getting hit by bus like I could literally feel the regret, pain, anger, confusion and just inconsolable.
People make fun of me because I love this series so much and I quit playing call of duty and sold my Xbox. All I have is my ps2 and the first three of these games. I still remember how into them I was as a kid. I was 4 when I navigated my way out of the warehouse in the first one. I was 8 when I begged my mom to take me to get this one the week it came out. I’m 27 now and maybe I’m just an elitist but I can’t get into any of these new games. This game in particular, just no other game measures up.
It's amazing how much of an amazing job these people did with Snake's face at the meeting with the president. You can see how hurt he is and his contempt for every suit in that room in this 2004 PS2 game where people talks by twitching their lower jaw.
This is the issue I have with elite soldiers. Whenever they bring up the mental fortitude you need to be in Delta/SEAL Team 6 I wonder why is it if they're so smart that they never questioned their role in political matters. Great men put all their effort for things they don't even know
We need a remake or a remaster, this is one of the greatest masterpieces in video game history, just bite the bullet, Konami, and sell mgs to Kojima, its rightful owner.
Game start: Naked Snake, a dorky yet badass soldier.
Game end: Snake, a broken man.
dorky?
+DevilishmanThe *big boss: a legendary soldier with a shettered past
+DevilishmanThe What do you mean by "dorky"?
Well, in snake eater, for example, Snake has a bomb of a woman, half naked besides him...and he goes all gaga over gun. Not to mention that apparently he believes in Santa (or did until the events of peace walker).
But hey, thats my opinion.

Makes you think if anything like this has actually happened in history. What an amazing game though! I wish Id played it earlier!
In a way everthing in the game could have happened, since they are all cover ops, everything is classified. As far as we know Solid Snake might be starting Operation Liquis Snake (MGS4) as we speak
This is one of the saddest things in this ending for me; We will never know if something like this had actually happened...
i wish i could play all mgs games again for first time..i would be rly happy
History has been twisted around especially with files being classified or expunged
I'd say the ending was outdone by Red Dead 2, but it's definitely one of the greatest endings ever
@@waluigi356 red dead has a happy ending so no.this is much better.arthurs death is not the end
Waluigi what the???.....
@@tgdude6379 Red dead 2 may have had a happy ending but red dead as a franchise did not.
And here’s ladies and gentlemen, the best game ending ever.
That beginning scene though, Snake finally gave in after everything EVA had ever tried to do to get him to sleep with her, and when he finally does it she betrays and leaves him, forcing him to grieve his relationship with her, his government and his mentor. I just wanna give him a big hug!
It is clear EVA felt something along with that promise, else she'd have killed him...still fucking sad as hell.
They gave him a title for killing his most beloved mentor. They gave him a medal that would forever remind him of that horrible moment. They willfully hid the truth from him even after the fact. (even though they had to, the point remains) And no one would ever know the true origin of the title "Big Boss". No one, but him.
12:51... That's always where I start to cry like a fucking child.
Me too man
HELLO, BROTHER
Deus Ex fan, huh?
EagleLogic IT'S NOT OVER YET
First game I played after my mom passed. This ending fucked me up. Even heroes cry when they lose someone special.
R_I.P. To all the moms out there.
Idk u but love
26 yrs old and it still gets me.
mgs series was only series of videogames to ever make me cry.
True Gamer Croatia try out Yakuza series, starting from Zero. it made me cry too, a lot.
Still the Greatest ending to a video game.
+THE AJREVIEW I agree ;O... It is just so perfectly done to end the story and to give feels. Still the best.
True!
Almost all the mgs games have great endings. Especially 2-4. 2 was an excellent ending with a great message. 3 was just beautiful and while 4 was a bit messy it was a fantastic conclusion to snakes story(kind of a good way of summarizing the game as a whole)
The boss' horse disliked this video
Naw I bet it was ocelot who disliked this video. After all:He is jealous of big boss.
Ocelot is actually ADAM, i'm pretty sure
Sad creature dies in peace walker
@@piromaniac9999 He loves Big Boss
This is it. This is one of the most tragic, beautiful, emotional and depressing endings i've ever seen. It's been five years since i finished MGS3 and i still get chills everytime i see the ending or listen to the bgm.
I just finished it today for the first time I made it to the boss boss fight but was saving it for today, and I was not dissapointed.
Her debriefing will endure only in your heart :'(
+Tom West such a heavy emotional & psychological concept displayed in this scene, rarely attempted in a video game and perfected ever rarer
I think this is one of the best if not the best video game ending ive ever seen! I cant say the number of times ive played through snake eater over the yrs!
she was a True Patriot :(
If you watch this and do not atleast tear up. you have no soul or connection to this video.
any time i see this video i always tear up i cant help it
I've been seeing this just to make my mind stronger for the phanto mm pain, that game sure will come with a lot of sad scenes
I cried the first 3 times i beat the game, now i don't cry anymore
Complaintzy cringe
I think what hurts the most is Jack thinking to himself “what do I do now?” Now crowned the title of big boss for killing someone he loved very much definitely made him feel so lost and unable to cope with that.
No wonder why he started his soldiers without boarders, it’s just so sad it never could’ve last because of the times.
I still remember playing this and my jaw dropping when they revealed that The Boss wasn't really a traitor but the greatest hero on a top secret double agent kamikaze mission for the US. I always cried around 14:45
No actual MGS fan doesn't struggle with the shedding tears at the end of this end.
I love this game but I never cried I did feel sadness on the inside though.
Good resilience.
Reminds me of how Snake only sheds 1 single man tear at the funeral salute by Boss' grave.
When snake salute . It hit me man
This is best metal gear solid
A ending that will make emotionless person cry
Agreed
How are the first 2 minutes and 41 seconds sad?
She played him like a damn fiddle
16 years.
It's been 16 years and it still hurts so much.
It will never stop hurting.
Kojima is just a genious, MGS3 ends at The Boss grave, and MGS4 ends at The Boss grave too!
“Take me over to her…” 😔
Can't wait to cry to this in the remake.
I think this may be the only version of Snake that cries (the original).
this and halo reach were the first game that got me crying a lil bit at the end. Happy it’s getting remastered
Still gets me after all these years...MGS3 and 4 were the most perfect beginnings and endings to a saga...
Grand Moff Yeah...
6:56 I must be really dumb, because it took me all these years to realize how Snake actually outfoxed her.
They better give this scene the love it deserves in the remaster
Such a sad ending - one in which the protagonist is completely and utterly traumatized by the action of the story. Not damaged beyond repair, but close. They wronged him so badly that he couldn't even celebrate being successful in averting a nuclear holocaust.
"Jack - or should I say Snake... you're a wonderful man. Kill me now. There's only room for one snake and one boss. "
Imagine hearing that from someone who literally raised you. Imagine that being your rite of passage as a man. Its absurd to think about it outside the world of MGS, obviously, but in a well made game you end up feeling things with the protagonist, especially if the road to the finish was difficult.
I STILL cry when I watch this.
Thank you so much for not ruining the iconic salute by pressing R1 like in all the other videos on YT
He went from an enthusiastic, badass soldier at the start of the game to a broken soldier at the end and future games...
Has to be one of the best character development in gaming history
All and all, Big Boss is a dark mirror to Solid Snake.
This video game story will never be topped. Ever
The narrative of this game is timeless. A true gem that will shine on forever
'She will go down in official history as a war criminal.'
What a hearbreaking sacrifice.
I cry every time I see this ending it truly is sad when u find out the true that she was still serving her country like a true hero but she is still branded as a war criminal :(
Melvin Big Boss If Volgin hadn't blown up Sokolov's facility then the ending would've been much different.
The greatest cutscene in video game history.
I'm so glad Kojima made the Metal gear solid series!
In video game we have The Boss, in movie we have Snape, and in anime we have Lelouch and Itachi...
But at least Snape and Itachi's name are cleared up, not like The Boss and Lelouch :(
Dang its been so long...actually got a few tears from this.
Still watching almost 20 years on. Still getting emotional.
a hero, not the hero we deserved but the hero we ahhhh... you get the point
Ces.Ex.Machina from the dark knight 😂
sameer cool she is the Dark Knight
Best scene in the history of video games, period.
I wish they would release the goddamn game on PC.
someone make this game into a goddamn movie
Michael Preston I think they will ruin it... Let it stay as it is..
P4boot agreed
No!
There are too many stuffs that only videogame could performs.
At least recreate it in the fox engine
They are indeed making a movie, but idk if they're doing Metal Gear Solid or Snake Eater first
Kojima is amazing! he delivered such great cinematics in the Metal Gear series!
This is my favorite video game of all time. This was also the first game that made me cry, the ending is so sad.
No matter how many times I watch this I actually start crying in the middle every time and burst into tears when Snake sheds a single one... In a way, Snake, just like The Boss sacrificed himself for this mission...
"Ever since I killed The Boss... I was already dead..."
Even The Boss herself notices this, she gives Snake the Patriot rifle, as a symbolic way of not only suggesting, that she did what she had to do for her country, but to show Snake, that he fulfiled his duty as an American soldier... It's just so sad to see two wonderful people get used by the government in an attempt to snatch money from their competitors...
I watched it again today and I'm still fucking crying, this is gettimg ridiculous.
lol me too , i watched it now and got teary eyes
This...and how EVAs voice HITCHES..as the emotions overwhelm any veneer of cold that she was trying to put up...
2:15 - Snake is that "Oh s***, I'm gonna get court-martialled for this...."
Right in the feels bro
You aren’t just watching a video game ending.
You are watching the death of a man. You are watching the death of everything he believed in. You are watching the beginning of a monster being created to fight the monsters of the world.
I never played any of the MGS because i was young and poor did not knew they existed i just saw this scene for the first time and teared up like a baby.
15:23, A truly heart wrenching powerful moment that I will never forget, it will be etched into the annuals of gaming history
Lloró, cómo un verdadero hombre.
No es llorar son lágrimas masculinas
how badass of a solider must you be in order for them to try to clone you.
The salute at that military graveyard almost made me cry. It was really, really hard to not cry.
Sometimes i forget completely that this is the same game series where you infiltrate some base in a cardboard box
The only game series where if you cry it's still manly.
Great men put all their effort for things they don't even know
The Boss: “My will is simple, just give peace a chance!”
Everyone else: “I’m gonna just pretend I didn’t hear that”
man I remember the first time I beat this game and saw the ending I turned the system off and sat there thinking what an amazing story this was
4:37 "It was all a lie." I especially love the way EVA says, "I tricked you." such a good voice actress...
We need a remake or a remaster, this is one of the greatest masterpieces in video game history, just bite the bullet, Konami, and sell mgs to Kojima, its rightful owner.
The moment I saw Big Boss shed a tear, I also cried out of sheer sadness
