    If you are in the intel PR suite, make sure to ask them why they are now sponsoring Feminist Frequency and have come out against Net Neutrality. I know until they make some changes, I'm not buying another intel product. AMD it is.

    • @thebear3692
      @thebear3692 9 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      That's all good and great but you do know that general employees of Intel have nothing to do with this and literately no voice, serious accountants come together and calculate the bottom line at the end of the year and if there is more money in non net neutrality then non net neutrality it is. Companies are driven by profit and if you think AMD is different then boy you are up for a tough ride.

      Alex I'Anson I'm not involved in the whole Gamergate thing. I do think, however, that Anita Sarkeesian and others like her are playing victims when they shouldn't be. Sarkeesian basically came out and said that all mass murders and shootings are because of sexism, because of men and their "Toxic Masculinity." She finds problems where there are none, and is a "professional victim." I'm not anti-feminism, I'm not anti-equality, but what Sarkeesian and the modern day feminist want is not equality, its special treatment.

    • @CT393
      @CT393 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      ***** I'm not putting that on the general employee, but the PR department is in charge of justifying those decisions. Making money isn't a part of this to me, and I don't care if either Intel or AMD is all about making money. That I understand, thats how business works. The way you go about it, is a different story.

      AMD only ouch! I'm typing this on a machine with an FX 8350 btw.
      Let this be a lesson to you giant semiconducter firms out there, you may start out with good intentions, but if you get mixed up in gamergate you're heading down a bad road that's a dead end one way street.

      Alex I'Anson whats wrong with wanting journalism to be fair and having rules that prevent corrupt behavior?? and while Anita doesn't do *all'* the same kind of crap other journalists from sites like gawker or kotaku do, shes still very dishonest and fabricates her own 'misogyny' which is reason to dislike her

    LOL this is ironic because didnt intel mess around with some benchmarks to make their pentium look better and they have to pay people who bought the cpu 15 dollars

      yup. got a slap on the wrist after 14 years. i dont see the point of this benchmarking tool. comparing the android, ISO and windows tabet seems. . . odd to me. also having intel back this benchmark makes it seem even more suspicious.

      Until recently I had never owned an AMD product. I built a new PC for gaming and went all AMD for the hell of it and haven't regretted it. For much cheaper than my last Intel based PC I have an excellent computer that is capable of doing anything my previous Intel PC's could do. Intel is too much hype and not enough innovation. I'm going to stick with AMD and hopefully see them come up with some cool new shit in the next couple years.

    • @declde
      @declde 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anonymous Unanimous I agree with you, AMD is underestimated. But it's not always better. You do get more price/performance out of a chip, but going with Intel is pure performance you're getting, for a higher price.
      My experience: if you're on a budget for gaming (say € 700) you'd get more gaming performance if you go with AMD and a more powerful gpu, than going with a core i5/i7 and a weaker gpu. If you have the money to spare, go for Intel, it's got great performance is in single core still the best.

      intel did quite a lot of things to make themselves look better... sadly the real competitor, AMD, is struggling so hard these days because of the past (and even now. intel will not stop manipulating the market)

    • @sharkey1983
      @sharkey1983 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luniii737 They always do a lot of things to make themselves *looks better* like the cinebench code scandal.. XD

      Luniii737 amd's doing so "bad" *cough its only the supplier to three consoles cough*
      I wish intel would stop being mean to amd as well, but you can't really say amd is doing bad anymore

    • @Luniii737
      @Luniii737 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Zafar
      they still would do better with more money. far better.
      they have good products, sure. i fucking love kaveri. i fucking love kaveri for notebooks too. but you can't buy this shit anywhere (you can but... when you look for a fx-7600p notebook, there's like 2 models from 2 brands and both are garbage). or the low tdp apus like beema... you don't find the notebook you're searching for, because customers don't want to buy amd and oems wanna do money with less risk. and intel still gives lot of discounts to them to make more intel products than amd. so you have a hard time to find a good amd product everytime.
      amd is the only supplier to consoles because they have the product sony, microsoft and nintendo are searching for. cpu and gpu in one. amd is currently the only company that can pull off good apus. if intel would be able to make something similar (especially in gpu performance, cuz they suck there), the console manufacturer would've gone there probably.
      also theres no fear of not selling consoles just because amd is in it, because customers usually don't know whats inside a console. but in pcs they do, cuz it's advertised this way.

    • @FM4AMGV
      @FM4AMGV 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zafar they aren't doing bad so to speak. they don't get respect though for their price points. their cpu's don't have raw performance but they're priced significantly lower then intel cpu's.

    One of the more important issues i had when i was a Computer Support student was the boot times with my laptop. Though it may be moot now, while the processor was good enough the HDD was pretty slow, meaning the boot times had a major impact on how much i could pay attention to the instructor for the first 10 minutes of my first class. Usually i had to wait for the laptop to boot up then but up at least one VM after that. As far as ram goes 12GB should probably be the bare minimum for IT students, with VMs starting to be the main way to emulate client pc's, processor speed did not matter as much as how many cores could be dedicated to VMs. Multi-tasking was also another concern, we almost always had a second screen to use in class and needed them for the VM's so we could have space on our main screen to look up information or watch our instructors computer screen through Cisco WebEX.

    Battery life in note taking or other MS productivity is by and far the most important thing to me; If I'm taking notes in four classes spread over an afternoon, knowing how often I'll have to make sure I get a seat that has a nearby outlet to charge back up is very, very important to me. The tablet type of device I frankly don't give a damn about gaming on, but getting something that will easily last a full 10 hours on a single charge of light system use is extremely important.

    I think it'd be great to see some convertible/tablet and laptop in one benchmarks. Tablets are good for their use cases, and laptops for theirs, but I think having something with both would be good for schooling (though I'm not in that market). Then find some way to quantify the benchmark'd performance to price ratio and that could have some great impact on people's buying of things and some great videos on the subject.

    Please compare thin and light notebooks against each other as I believe this is the most popular type for back to school.
    Not really benchmarking performance so much, more focused on usability aspects such as battery life, heat and noise under load and idle. Perhaps portability and weight can also be a factor. Looking forward to such content.

    Hey Linus, I am interested in seeing how these tablets (I mean PCs) are for gaming. I don't expect them to be able to play the latest games at ultra settings, but could they handle reasonably new games in low-mid settings (with no AA) at acceptable frame rates? When I'm not out working, I would love to be able to mount my tablet by my bed or couch or whatever and play my games on it with an xbox controller.

    Honestly if I am looking at benchmarks to determine what manufacture to buy, it is not a phone/tablet/Chromebook. What a tablet scores on a bench mark is low on my list when shopping. That however is not the case when shopping for a windows based laptop and so that's where I would love to see bench marking results.

    On the mobile side of things, I would really want to know about heat dissipation, deterioration of mobile parts and overall performance.
    For heat dissipation, it's closely related to the deterioration of mobile parts but I feel that there aren't enough effective cooling solutions for mobile units that are focused more on the performance side of things. I think it's partially due to a design issue. I'd like to know the heatsinks they use for their cpus and gpus and if those are actually effective.
    For deterioration, I've had laptops that would just heat up to the point where over time, the mobile gpu would deteriorate and I would no longer be able to run games at the same settings as I once was able to. Should I have gotten a laptop cooling fan? Yes, but the point being is that I believe the design should've incorporated the issue and addressed it in the first place so that if I wanted EVEN cooler temperatures, I would invest in a laptop cooling fan.
    Overall performance. With the many mobile cpu's and gpu's, I want to know how it compares to a desktop because I can't quantify the differences between a QM, S, or whatever the letter may be behind an Intel mobile cpu processor. As for gpu's I'd like to know how for instance a 900M series is compared to a desktop Nvidia GTX series or AMD line of cards to see what kind of performance I'm actually getting from a mobile laptop. It is not to actually "compare" the differences between a laptop and a desktop but rather find values in which can be placed within the same line of cpu/gpu on a desktop so that we may obtain a better understanding of what exactly we are purchasing.
    Currently typing on a laptop with a burnt out graphics card due to deterioration. The graphics card is still alive but it's not functioning very well. I've dismantled the laptop before and changed the thermal paste and dusted it out.

      My GPU gets hot as hell, but I don't really worry much since it's 750M. Even Acer would manage their fans well enough not to burn out the GPU, right?

    • @poiisondn
      @poiisondn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it burns hot as hell then you should be worrying lol. If it doesn't burn it'll deteriorate which means you might want to consider down clocking your gpu but having said that, doesn't that mean we're not getting the most out of what we're purchasing?

    • @ireminmon
      @ireminmon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll run a check on temperatures someday. I think GPU gets up to 70 degrees celsius, not sure what this means...

    • @GregReavis
      @GregReavis 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I would like to know what kind of cooling they're using. A lot of laptops I've worked on in the past had a heat pipe array with/or small heatsinks and fans. Tablets and thinner laptops are way too thin to have those I think. I would like to see a tear down of some of these to see what makes them cool. No pun intended.

    • @poiisondn
      @poiisondn 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg Reavis Exactly lol. Heatsinks are very important. I'm not as into the smaller laptops that are mainly for lightweight portability and light use cause I wouldn't think they'd be used for anything related to video editing or gaming or....any sort of heavy duty work. I used to game on my laptop before I built my desktop and now I just use my laptop for video rendering because the gpu basically died on me so I just use the cpu for it's processing power.
      With the new 5th gen Intel processors (not sure about AMD), they have decreased power consumption, increased power and less heat output. I think that would benefit the thinner laptops surely. The differences in generations matter as I've tried out different cpu's over time. I don't feel that idle temps are necessary as it's mostly a design issue but load temps are much more significant. I really want to see a properly cooled laptop where parts don't just burn out over time. It sucks to buy a laptop just to have the gpu burn out and you're left with an incompetent laptop (in my standards). For instance ... getting a new laptop and running things on high..and over time, tweaking settings to medium and eventually low.
      I've read some other comments with regards to pricing, battery capacity, screen type etc but I feel like only pricing is important out of that list. Screen type I guess could be somewhat of a big deal depending on what you do i.e. raw image editing. Battery capacity I'd only be concerned about the amount of cells and capacity but not how long it lasts in terms of time because everyone has different uses and not necessarily web browse only or whatever they do to test how long a battery can run for.
      I also want to see future laptops come out with the ability to set custom fancurves on 3rd party programs. I couldn't set my laptop's fan to a manual curve through MSI Afterburner sadly and I guess it's because the fan doesn't have a 4 pin connector to the motherboard but rather 3 pin. I'm using a Dell 15" L502x right now and the aforementioned stuff about the laptop is mainly my complaints about this laptop. I used to be very pleased with it nonetheless. I've had it for 4 years now and parts are bound to degrade but after 2 years I already had to run things on low and recently the graphics card just began to die where the graphics driver would stop while I'm playing games or rendering videos. I've reinstalled the driver so it's not exactly a driver issue. I've also tried older versions of the drivers.
      Sorry for the ramble but I felt it was needed

Ever since then, Intel could not stop insisting that Linus should speak freely about their products. Wise Guy 508 (MAYBE) linus is saying the truth, but I barely watch his video about AMD/Qualcomm/Apple/nVidia/whichever makes CPU, it's all about intel, intel, intel, intel, intel, although he's *probably* saying the truth, he's also diminishing others..

    i use my mobile devices to watch 1080p videos. I found some devices handle higher profiles than others, ie: SGS2, could handle GPU dec. 1080@10Mb/s but not higher, while SGS3, could do it CPU and GPU. Also i could handle 20Mb/s, while sgs2 not. I'd love to see that kind of benches.

    Linux, I'd really appreciate it if you could make a video comparing laptops, say under $400 or $500, with benchmarks from these sorts of software.
    Like you said in this video, it's hard to shop around for the best value laptop and the majority of people wouldn't want to try to build one.

      Supervhizor I think HD cards are far from *relics*, I read somewhere that R9 280X is a re-named HD 7970.. Please CMIIW

    • @Tristn-1
      @Tristn-1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is true that the 7970 is as powerful as a r9 280x but it did not replace its name I know this because I have a HD 7850 and it is just as powerful as a r9 270

      Supervhizor the 8320 has a stock clock of 3.5ghz and it is a 8 core powerhouse well capable of over clocking to 3.8 and beyond if you want to risk it but its a fantastic CPU that will last you a long time.

    A comparison between notebooks with 15 or 17" and between 250 and 400$ would be nice.
    But if it would be tested, than you should rate the runtime, durability, performance while gaming and performance for office/movies.
    Reason for that: I want to buy a small notebook for traveling and school

    oh oh oh oh i know i have really been wanting to see how steam broadcasting will do on a tablet or tab/pc lol i mean its just streaming but iv been wanting to know if i could stream the game to a tablet and if it would run ok. my reason for wanting this kinda test is im not a fan of the steam broadcasting only in the sense that you would need to have 2 pc's running when i could just play it on the desktop and not rack up a higher electric bill. tablets dont use much power so i figure steam broadcasting would be best for streaming the game to a tablet. tho i dont think i would ever leave my pc alone while using it to game, gotta keep an eye on it.

    what is the best benchmarking software

  • @K-VR
    @K-VR 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah Benchmarks across various platforms is very tedious and often led to misunderstanding.
    While i usually prefer a desktop over anything , this decade is what you can call the era of the mobile devices but i was wondering if a low power tablet can be as smooth and productive as a desktop why should i buy it anyway( leaving gaming and rendering aside).
    I would really like to have a Benchmark which would run typical run of the mill software and some content creation software across x86 and ARM Processors .
    Also which software performs better ( Free , Premium or Paid) or either it is justifiable to buy a full version of the software.
    Usually a benchmark is limited to unreal intensive and concentrated towards cpu and gpu , but a system is much more than that so even a laptop or tablet is cheaper and has equal specs can be quite a bit slower than the slightly costly one.
    So a benchmark which would simulate normal load under ordinary condition is what this industry and what we want to see in your videos.
    Sorry For the long post.
    You got my like : D

    I have a lot of people asking what laptop is best for gaming and then I'm talking low end, like 400-600 dollars. I would like to se what mobile setup with integrated graphics has most fps per dollar, but also entry level pure gaming notebooks would be cool. Not too focused on looks and extras just pure gaming performance. I just don't know what to recommend, got a good grip on desktop hardware but mobile stuff is just, "look higher numbers, more gb, pretty logos, some gpu, ssd no sdd" :-D
    Anyway sorry for the rant, but mobile stuff gets confusing at times, specifically models and price and what sets them apart.

    I think if you discuss/test mobile devices you should speak about longevity issues - how long this device will be usable or up-to-date for its purposes. Its hard to measure but you should take a look into it. I think that Apple devices have excellent timeframe of their device life. Even after 3-4 years. But my budget HTC bought one year ago is almost useless. And of course majority of your readers are not able to spend money on 8x SSD RAID ;) So tomshardware approach for testing video cards - frames per bucks is actually nice. See if you can use this technique.
