I love this take. But it also makes me wonder if it also is looking at the gamer at large, not just cozy gamers. The vast majority of games are violent and the task is to kill basically anything that moves. Gameplay is often to shoot things, fight things, stab things, etc. Cozy games are a step away from that. So this could also show the mindset of a gamer who is so used fighting in games and have them sit down and do something pleasant, like run a garden and a tea shop.
can't wait to play this game. when i saw the trailer, i instantly related to Alta especially that i've been trying to embrace a new life moving out of the city and into some remote rural area surrounded by farms. also, tea.
Makers of The Stanley Parable and Beginner's Guide = Play this game. I'm happy, yes, quite content in my cozy little paradise. Aren't you, Stanley? Stanley?
The monologue you played at the end sounded a lot like someone with ptsd trying to convince themselves everything is fine now and they don’t need to actually *deal* with their trauma. They should just be *happy* because everything is *okay* but everything’s not actually okay because your brain is still stuck in the trauma. I’m so psyched for this and sent this video to my b to see if he might be up to play it with me (and if not see if he’d wanna watch me play it 😂).
This particular game trailer heavily reminded me of one of my favorite mangas Soara and the monsters house. With a soldier struggling after war with purpose and longing for a home she never got to have, she meets 3 dwarves that travel around building houses for monsters depending on their needs and slowly learns about the monsters she once were fighting while contributing to the housebuilding efforts. I could see Soara in the featured protagonist which piqued my interest.
Karla Zimonja (co-creator of Gone Home and Tacoma) and Daniel “C418” Rosenfeld (the music of Minecraft) are also involved in this project, so it all makes it an insta wishlist/buy for me. trust in Davey and his team and all
As a sufferer of PTSD for 20+ years, I’ve used cozy games as escapes from reality for just as long. It’s not a healthy practice and I know that now as an adult, but I also think Pokemon and Friends of Mineral Town on the GBA kept me from going too off the rails
I don’t think that’s necessarily a terrible thing, don’t we all need hobbies or something that brings us joy on a small, daily level that helps us do the work we need to do in order to heal? Of course, if it’s all one does, that definitely means we’re trying to avoid something, but we all need a safe space too. I hope you continue in your healing journey and continue to enjoy cozy games as part of your treatment process 😊
Ooo interesting 👀👀 could be like when you feel stressed but we keep ourselves busy irl The last clip also made me think how sometimes we are in a good position in our lives but we have that underlayed anxiety that it may not last or that it feels alien to feel happy, like you *shouldn't* be or son't deserve it
davey wreden left a thread on his twitter about being worried people will think it's just a regular cozy game, even though he wanted to do something more with it
I’ve always wondered why I’ve been drawn to more cozy games and I think you summed it up perfectly. Definitely keeping an eye on this one what an interesting take
My interpretation is that the majn character has some kindof tragic past as a fighter that she's tried to leave behind after being invited to work at the teashop. But wherever she goes her past still follows her, and she refuses to move on. She feels she doesn't belong at the teashop and wants to return to her life as a fighter depsite trying to escape from it at the same time.
It makes me sad how true is all of what you've said. I have some very serious issues in my life and I've played 1400 hours in 10 months with Sims 4. I'm running away? Definitely. Did I know that? Yes. Did I think about it deeper? No. Thank you. First I've seen your video about Cabernet, and I could resonate with a lot of your comments. I love your videos since then. Thank you for your work!
Beginner's Guide and Stanley Paraable are SUCH great games. Especially BG. It's a great way of getting insights of others around you about the main topic of Koda and if the narrator was right or wrong in what he did with Koda's games. It's a 2 hour experience that I like to come back to every once in a while and show to friends, old and new. So, yes. I'm with you in being excited for this game!
SUPER excited about this! Thanks for putting it on my radar! The Beginner's Guide was one of the first games I played all the way through on my own, and it's stuck with me ever since. It was a stylistic outlier, though, of the games I've come to play since-- Wanderstop looks like a fantastic intersection of my love of cozy games, and my love of thoughtful and self-aware games. I have a game launch to look forward to now :D
I am deeply obsessed with real meta games like Stanley parable, and I love management games so this game might just be the best thing to come out in a long time for me.
Yessss! Another amazing video! (Also, thanks for making these videos morph. I have a game suggestion: Bunhouse! A bunny game where you have a greenhouse!
usually when i see people dip into a new genre and adding twist into it, they tend to be accompanied with some... disdain and contempt towards the genre convention. the most popular example is how people treat "otome dating sim visual novel WITH A TWIST" where they sneer at the idea of romance and assumes they have done something that otome games have never done before (they're wrong, their 'twists' are usually things that have already been done to death by otome game devs) but this one. it doesn't feel like it's sneering at cozy games, and i haven't played stanley parable myself but i know the beginner's guide, i trust the potential of the writing in this game. after all a story about someone struggling to reclaim inner peace is anything but condescending
Wow. Very interesting viewpoint! I saw it as a game showing the dark side of shoot-em-ups! The protagonist escaped that dark war-scape and is attempting to slow down, calm down, and RELAX in an effort to enjoy life and not destroy it (for views/likes).
I love your take on this game, Morph. I hope this game is close to what you hope it will be, especially coming from those creators. Might not watch your play through until I can play it first though. lol
Sounds very interesting!thanks for sharing 💖 did you play wylde flower? I feel like you would enjoy it. The story also starts traditional cozy but it gets more and more unhinged on the social dynamics of the town people, but in a very real way. It got me way too emotionally involved 😅 #bestgameever
This video made me wonder if you would do a playthrough of either Medieval Dynasty or Manor Lords. I enjoyed your BG3 playthrough mostly because it was vastly different to other YT gamers. I have loved playing Medieval Dynasty but when I check out playthroughs for help I find that everyone is playing it differently to me and it worries me! I am in year 3, I have a farm, an orchard, pigs and chickens and NO villagers (which apparently is very wrong). It would be nice to see someone else play without sticking to the "formula" ie build a house, make money recruit villagers. (If you do decide to play I am in the Oxbow game , The Valley is basically a very in-depth tutorial). It can also be played with friends if you have some , I don't... at least none who game. xxx
Could you ever play no Place like home? It’s a very cozy game about animals. And a farm I’ve been looking for other TH-camrs who have made a video about it but they are none so maybe you could be the first
I feel like that’s it and potentially the min-maxing until you’re obscenely rich, have the biggest house, all the items, everything automated, and no reason to play anymore
In my perspective, the girl is probably running away from something, responsibility, trauma, her true self, anxiety, forcing themselves to be someone they are not, etcetera.
Well you see how cozy gamers are quick to pick up the echos of plum and cult of a lamb. I was also telling my hubby today that I wish in LAKE that if we hit a pole or person we could have police car come and give us a ticket or smash the car which would say make us miss work and town be mad at us lol I also want her to able to pick up items, pet the cats etc . I was watching part two of your game through earlier. Maybe have the option to smuggle drugs in the back of the postal car for extra $$. When I saw that you could poison your neighbor in Echo of plum, I was like “you have my interest now” I am a very friendly person in real life but it’s a nice escape in a game to have an alter ego who has a dark side. Maybe egg house if the customer is rude? Steal their cat and take them home with me, steal my neighbors crops or clothes off their line instead of paying for new ones, sneak and steal their packages, maybe spit in a rude customer’s food and serve it to them in a restaurant management game. Why doesn’t sticky business have dark theme stickers? Etc (all game options, not real life)

I totally agree, and love that the concept is already bringing so much potential for interpretation and insight

Edit due to me being tough on my own grammar 😆

I’m waiting for my Sims to turn on me once they become self aware 😅
Lol probably in the next 2 updates, you better me nicer to them 😅

I am deeply obsessed with real meta games like Stanley parable, and I love management games so this game might just be the best thing to come out in a long time for me.
I wonder if they are going to go with a Senua Hellblade/ Silent Hill 3 approach.
One day our main character snaps and sees everyone as monsters.

I'm interested in learning more about this game🙌. Your explanation about cozy games is why I enjoy the game Obenseuer🤗
When you land too far from your team in a battle royale
i saw the ad for this and immediately was so ready for it

As someone who likes both the cozy and the dark games I can't wait to see its release
4:00 "It feels like my new favorite game already." -Morph ❤️💕
The weird thing is, I like watching you play cozy games, but loathe playing them myself. Hmmm Have a lovely week.
This is an interesting concept. I’m eager to see more.
I love this, can’t wait to play one day.
I am so excited for this game!! It looks amazing and I love the concept of a cozy game with a dark twist!! ✨🤩✨

This one is going to be so good.
Looks great and got great writing
this looks soo cool!❤
Such an interesting take. Makes me wonder what the MC of this game’s been through.
This might be one that I try! Very interesting!
Please tell me there'll be reasurance buckets

O: I remember this one from yesterday
It’s made for you Morphy ❤
Is this a game about how cozy games feel empty and hollow and boring but we pressure ourselves into pretending they're not 😅
I feel like that’s it and potentially the min-maxing until you’re obscenely rich, have the biggest house, all the items, everything automated, and no reason to play anymore
What name of the game again? Imma search up the trailer
In my perspective, the girl is probably running away from something, responsibility, trauma, her true self, anxiety, forcing themselves to be someone they are not, etcetera.
Hell yeah a cozy psychopath
Whats the game and can I play it on my pc ?
Wanderstop, yes it will be on PC
