    Something i think should be done more in AAA games is simply just DARE
    DARE to innovate
    DARE to be different
    What i see in those old games is that they simply dared to be different they weren't afraid to try to innovate to make better looking games better feeling games than what was already on the market games that had new and interesting mechanics new themes and storys that had never been seen in gaming before or atleast not in large numbers
    Modern AAA studios have more devs more money than they had back then but still they dont try to make anything too different
    Meanwhile a lot of indie games are doing that despite the lack of devs and money compared to AAA studios

    • @dangersnail5839
      @dangersnail5839 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think the issue is exactly what you said, the risk.
      AAA studios build big games, games that take years upon years to develop. They use more money, more manpower, and more time to develop a truly well thought out and designed games.
      Whereas indie studios build smaller games, they can risk it, and they often succeed, but sometimes they don’t.
      If a AAA game with a bad idea flops, it could shut down entire departments in a studio.
      If an indie game flops, it still hurts, but they can just get cracking at another idea to bring to life.

      Idk man I don’t really think it’s my expectations at all. As long as bugs aren’t completely game breaking, I can look past them and don’t care. I’m not one of those people who automatically freaks out and writes off a game if there are bugs or something. I’ve put up with Halo Infinite since it launched and that game had serious issues. My biggest issue with modern games is the lack of social features and them focusing so much on monetization and cosmetics. Not really an expectation thing for me. It’s more just like I’d rather games actually be fun instead of being a constant grind fest.

    • @Magswap
      @Magswap 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @alexschneider8494 I mean that's essentially part of it. You're expectations are that games don't come out with a primary focus on just making money, but also giving the players a fun experience.
      There's a ton of layers to that.

    • @alexschneider8494
      @alexschneider8494 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Magswap I mean true I guess that’s an expectation of mine, but isn’t that what a game should be first and foremost? Fun to play? My expectations are basically wanting games to be what gaming always was up until the last decade or so. I don’t think I’m being unrealistic about that. It’s not like it’s too much to ask for a game to just be fun focused and allow me to really socialize online. Saying that we don’t enjoy modern gaming because of our expectations implies that we’ve started demanding more when in reality we’re just demanding they put the same love and care into their games that they did just ten years ago.

    • @Magswap
      @Magswap 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @alexschneider8494 I see what you're saying and definitely agree with you. Whether it's standard or expectations, I think that just comes down to subjection. We both want the same thing and you would think companies would agree.
      I will say there definitely are indie companies that have tried to focus on fun...Insurgency Sandstorm is my favorite example even though they had some controversy.
      However, pretty much any AAA studio is just money focused (I know it's a business, but there's a limit) and sometimes it's up to the players to show companies that it's not okay to go past that. My favorite example of that is Battlefront 2.
      But yes you are right it's less of an expectation and more should be thought of as a basic standard.

Instead over the last few weeks I played the RE4 remake, I replayed Horizon Forbidden West for the second time, currently playing Pacific Drive. For me multiplayer games these days just all feel the same, it’s all battle passes and stores, feels like it’s all just about playing to “earn” something and feel rewarded but the gameplay itself is just bland and repetitive. Single player games are the way forward I think.

    To preface I’m 25, my golden days were relentlessly grinding for gold in bo1, imo I think nostalgia, the streamer communities, and the over use of technology has plagued the gaming industry.
    Nostalgia : when I look back at staying up all night to find 1 singular slime in minecraft mining a big a ass square underground to get them to spawn, that grind was SO painful, when I look back on this memory it’s me and 6/7 guys laughing our asses off at some off the wall shit. I now have 3 major friends who I game with and sometimes those goof moments happen but not very often and that’s what I miss.
    Streamers: industries listen to them TOO much. I get it, it’s their livelihood but making shit to cater to them and leaving out the casual “dad gamer” just doesn’t work. I wish all games had a casual and ranked section and in that ranked streamers are given exactly what they want. The streamer grinding 50 kill WR in war zone does not represent me. I just want to pass time and have been gaming for long it’s something I don’t think I’ll get rid of and I’m sure most casuals feel this way.
    Technology: with so many ways to obtain dopamine rushes now a days, indie games leveling the playing field with AAA titles so they can explore places AAA is afraid to do bc of sales, and seeing some of the same ole shit in every new game just demotivates a person to stick with that game unless ur a one game Andy like myself (currently obsessed w tarkov even tho I suck donkey balls)

    This video genuinely speaks to my soul. I see far too many people (especially on the internet) give in to despair not just when it comes to video gaming, but to other stuff as well. Plus they seem to be so deep in the hole that they get offended when someone's genuinely happy or looking forward to something (probably also doesn't help that big media and even some TH-cam channels feed on this sort of negativity). I think what we are seeing is a shift rather than a decline. I can only begin to think of how many recent games that have really struck success or show great promise.
    Elden Ring
    Baldur's Gate
    Friends vs. Friends
    The Finals
    Cult of the Lamb
    Lethal Company
    Harsh Doorstop
    Helldivers II
    And these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I know for certain there are far more. In any case, I think this was an excellent video, and I'm definitely saving it for future reference.

    I think you're sharing a very good sentiment in this video, the world needs more optimism. But you should be wary of indie studios, they aren't all sunshine, rainbows, guardian angels, and step-mothers of all adult movie fantasies. One of the best examples is DayZ(I think fits at the very end of the transition period you talked about when Twitch started to get big), which over-promised and changed its design in a way that didn't seem like it would. More recently, Ready Or Not pushed out a 1.0 despite the game having bugs, overcooked AI, and some questionable practices(they used AI art for some of the in-game posters). Squad got bought out by Tencent and despite promises of no microtransactions during Kickstarter, it now has them, now that the CEO changed.
    Be happy with what we have, and encourage everyone to keep making more of what makes you happy. But don't let them push crap just on wishful thinking.

    Wdym you don't blame the consumers? I totally do. And I saw it happening as it was happening. We were playing CoD4's DLC and people were like "omg, I wish next CoD has more DLCs". At that point, we were doomed. People are too stupid. After that day, more and more games were released with content cut off just to be sold separately. And this issue progressed to the point that now it's even socially acceptable to release games totally unfinished, completely broken, with pay walls, grindy af just to make people buy loot boxes and even XP boosts to play offline games. And now, instead of consumers, we've got consoomers. No matter how bad the game is or will be, you'll find a plethora of morons defending evil practices and dumb ideas, flat out handicapping each game's potential just because they think they are blessed to be receiving anything at all from devs who are considered flawless gods in the gaming community. And it doesn't stop there. Publishers took a notice in the ramifications of this. The more players, the more losers to pay for their stuff. So games are souless now. And even hardcore games made for a niche end up doing a 180 and going casual because they need to cater their games to the casual noobs and surf on this GaaS wave. And it's a f'ing cesspool. Disgusting! **spit**

    You gotta go back further than 2011. Ever since gaming went HD, quality and diversity in gameplay has been in a downward spiral. Even comparing the ps1 to the ps2, the ps2 falls short. The ps2 era was the strongest gaming generation because of the DC, GC, XBOX, and ps2 combined. That and the first 2 years of the ps2 were insane. But on a console vs console bassis, nothing really beats ps1. SNES comes relatively close though. Considering it's lack of 3D capability.

    • @napalmsanctuaryx4129
      @napalmsanctuaryx4129 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      PS1 was peak. Everything afterwards has been less than the console that came before. In the ps2 era I needed an xbox, GC, and PS2 to cover what the PS1 did by itself. I'm just saying, that as dry as the ps3 felt in its own time, it's golden compared to the ps4 and ps5. We at least got a new Twisted Metal that gen, as flawed as it was. And I can think of quite a few other bangers that gen that were well above the corporate mush cash grab bs.

      @@napalmsanctuaryx4129 Yeah completely agree about the cross platforming, I remember having to have every console for different games. Wtf is even that….
      The ps4 and 5 and Xbox one and series x has been got to be the worst era of consoles ive ever seen in terms of games. There’s hardly any games. The output back in the old days was insane and they actually took creative risks. It was better when it wasn’t as commercialised. Then it was actually art.

    cheers man that was beautiful, and i think you are totally right. We focus too much on known names, expecting them to bring us even more innovation and ground breaking experiences even tho for a human let alone a big studio full of compromises that kind of a feat is a "one in a life time hit" therefore I think we may still be right feeling disappointed in them but we are in the wrong for giving them attention and not focusing on those that might actually bring us those experiences because of the trust we placed in the now big studios for doing that in the past... nobody is going to be great forever but everybody deserves a chance to be great. We as gamers need to remember that if we want that same level of quality of innovation to remain relevant. Great video.

    I remember the BF3 beta fondly. I was playing on xbox, and was enjoying the beta at the same time I first purchased an 1080p HD tv. It was literally night and day difference for that beta while black ops didn’t seem to change much. I remember being able to use sniper rifles without scopes and actually perceive heads at the same distance as I previously could with a scope. I swapped tvs back and forth in match to just marvel at the difference. Such a technical jump in fidelity of visuals, animations and sound. The next instalment that I really enjoyed was actually BF Hardline, with less OP vehicles dominating large maps it brought back a lot of fond memories of BF3.

    I still play battelfield 3 with friends every year or so when nostalgia hit, this game is just so resilient to time, it's still fun to play today and that crazy.
    I think the future of gamming can only be bright, big studio's profit start to go down, some good gems can be found easily every few months.
    Gamming industry needed a second wind, and it was hard to find a way to create video games outside of big studio and publisher.
    The industry wobble for some years to find this new path, with harsh obstacles and disappointments along the way, but I think it started to stabilize itself.
    Yes big studio are still gonna be here and try to make thinghs hard for us, but with enought time their inertia is going to fade and they will adapt or disapear.

    Bf3 hype will probably never be matched. Long lines outside of gamestops at midnight(yes this nerd was there), game demos available near the door with cool people around you watching as you fly an f18 hornet for the first time in battlefield…it was something very special. For me, working in gaming industry with all the giants, it's easy to overlook all the nice things happening in the industry, while seeing all the shitty things. Happily, yes I got to know GZW (bc of you), I played BG3, I've seen Beautiful Light, and some other titles, so the future is probably brighter than we see it. I think a big part of that "hype" was that technology was still being developed when I was younger to make video games better like the jump from 2D to 3D and then higher polygon counts, higher framerates, etc. it was very exciting to see what they were going to do next because we truly had no idea. Eventually though we hit a kind of plateau where video games cant really look any better or more realistic, and at this point they have implemented and tried enough ideas for there to be genres of video games and all those genres have at this point implemented all kinds of ideas. The reason it doesn't feel the same anymore is because we aren't blazing a trail anymore to show what can be done. We've done it. Now its all just different flavors of the same thing. Now the people that run these games companies care about releasing games they know will make money instead of taking chances on completely new ideas and IP like their predecessors were.
