I can never make myself sleep while the baby is sleeping, that's my time to get things done or relax by myself. It's much harder said than done, but I'm sure it makes a big difference if you can stick to it.

Shaina Squeaks I'm exactly the same it's my one moment I have to brush my hair, use the loo, catch up on food etc. I don't see when else I can do these things! I envy those who sleep whilst baby sleeps, it's impossible for me :(

Agree with all these tips Emily, especially the one about going to bed early/when your young baby goes to sleep! My partners work think that it’s ridiculous that he goes to bed at 8:30 most nights but if he didn’t he wouldn’t get a decent nights sleep as he has to get up at 4:30-5 and the baby often wakes us both up during the night! X

My best trick is to not talk about being tired, no sleep or up all night.
As soon as I start talking or even thinking about it I feel 100 times worse!
I also stopped looking at the clock when getting up in the night.
Knowing that i have been up at 4am makes it harder to get back to sleep then up in the morning.
One of my friends tricks is that her and her husband take turns on days off to get up with the kids so the other one can have a lie in zzzzzz

Good tips emily!! Definitely will try some of tips 😁 as for me, I would drink apple cider vinegar and honey mix in water first thing in the morning to lift my morning energy. After 30mins or so then i will have my breakfast smoothie. To wind down at night, I’ll on my cosy warm light, and night mode for my handphone, browse for 30mins and drink just a bottle of water before going to bed. If i really wanna a deep night sleep, I will on my oil diffuser, put in few drops of lavender essential oil and it works wonders everytime!! Even for the kids. You should try getting a diffuser Emily but only use 100 % therapeutic grade essential oils!! Sometimes in the mornings I will diffuse citrus oil and it makes the whole room so refreshing that you will be so fresh in the morning!!

Hey emily nice to see you all the above tips are amazing,i have a few suggestions also if you allow me,
Never have tablets, tvs, laptops in your bedroom and leave work related paperwork etc in another part if the room, try to create a calmer effect by having dim lighting, candles.
Comfortable bedding like breathable cotton sheets, covers, and decent pillow and duvet and comfortable nightwear most importantly have a proper mattress to support your body time
Having a quick shower to relief all stress and brushing your hair becore bedtime is a great way to relax.
My grandma nearly 100 years old always suggested hot milk, turmeric and honey these relax muscles and calm the bones.
Always say something positive befofe bed,my saying is ok the kids were good, didnt gey all housework etc done but still today is over and to be a better person, more productive in some areas
Thanking god for having a blessed day and feeling boessed you got to share it will loved ones.
Eating is very important always have set meal times no matter what your working or personal sechdule i think they say three hours before bed and try to eat light as bloating and heavy stomach is not the best way to sleep.
My kids are good sleepers from 7.till 6am all thred if them they are 6+,3+,1+ abd my bedtime routine is dinner in peace 7.30 8.00 clean kitchen, put washing in,get changed and bed by 9.35 as it takes your body atleast ten min to relax completley fresh for 5.45 even before the alarm goes off.
Hope some of this information is helpful and best wishes to the ones who do not have this issue and it does get better as try to stick to the same routine during naps and sleep time

The only time U can "sleep when the baby sleeps", is if U don't have any other kids, don't have a job or responsibilities, and it's not logical. Like, no adult can just drop down into a nap at random ass times like a newborn can. It's just plain stupid to even try this. It may work once or twice if ur lucky.

Really good comments apart from the coffee idea, coffee is a stimulant and highly addictive, it gives you a false sense of security so to speak that's why you get the urge of needing coffee, plus it can dehydrate the skin and cause early signs of aging, I work with skin so I know.

I have been dealing with sleep deprivation for a little over a year now as I didn't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time while pregnant. Now that my LO is nearly 9 months and totally has a sleep association with drinking breast milk out of a bottle (yes totally spoiled) I now only get 2 to 3 hours at a time. I am going to try to make more of an effort not to allow myself to feel so.. pitiful. I really need to wake up and start up a good routine for him.
How I cope with my sleep loss is sleep when he sleeps. I try to take a shower in the morning soon as I can to wake up. I try not to think about the few hours I only got to sleep or the crazy crappy night I had. Otherwise, it follows me all day long.

Do you have any tips on how I can get my wife up? She sleeps through tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes.....etc and I’m not joking. We are just about to have our first child so this is going to be interesting. Cheers for the tips Emily 👊

Yay for socks!!! My husband thinks I am nuts, but it is easiest way to fall asleep fast! I also stopped drinking coffee, because my all 3 boys are very sensitive to cofeine. In this case my body is not used to have a boost from caffeine and I am ready to go any time of the day. To have energy I just eat nuts. Oh..and I do not sleep during the day, because then I will struggle to fall asleep in the evening. And if I am tired after all day, it takes seconds to fall asleep when baby has his longest first night sleep.

When I had my little ones for first four months, I had my power naps with them whenever they sleep. For night time, till now, I always have to put my little ones to bed and I will be sleeping besides them. The irony is, I'm the one ended up getting into sleep before my little ones! 😌😊 I think I really missed the days where I could sleep for 10 consecutive hours without any worries or disturbance 😆

I had a friend who was the first amongst our group to get married. She allowed her babies to nap often but would gently wake them up after a certain time. She did so in order to have a relatively routine schedule. It worked wonders for her as she was able to sleep on a more regular pattern. For me personally, I suffer from extremely high anxieties that feed insomnia. I have found that gentle white noise helps me fall and stay asleep. You can find Star Trek Sleeping Quarters here on TH-cam, there’s several to pick, I found the 8hr vid was perfect. I hope this helps, if not, just ignore me haha.

Dear Emily you are so cool I love all your videos !I just want to mention that you said avoid carbs and you meant the junk food full of oil and sugar but whole food carbs like grains fruit and veggies and potatoes is actually very good for brain as brain is run and function on glucose so I am sure you meant no junk food but whole foods that will nourish our bodies ) I eat tones of carbs and nuts and seeds fruits and veg and feel great with lots of energy even after breast feeding my baby all night as he teething 😷I still find myself not extremely run out but actually good balanced diet as you
said it’s a key!! Just make sure that is no starvation 🙏🏽lol

Fab video, I am a nightmare for being on my phone before bedtime, but sometimes it's the only chance I get to watch my fav TH-camrs like yourself 😘
I find it does relax me though, as I'll put a few videos in a playlist to watch and I'm always asleep by then end.
I did download a sleep stories app whilst I was pregnant as I used to find it horrendous to sleep, and would only get about 5 hours then.
Also found it really useful in the early weeks where i would try and sleep during the day whilst my Son was sleeping but used to find it hard to wind down. The app was a bit of a godsend, as I never made it through to the end of the story without falling asleep 😊

The writing things down before to sleep has helped me rest better and dream less when I sleep. Dreaming bothers me so much because I cannot rest. But since I started writing down all my thoughts or ideas on paper before I sleep it tires my eyes and hand muscles and shoulder and I sleep. So much better.

The best way (in addition to what you mentioned) is eye drops! And an early walk. I work in an office and I’m infront of my computer all day and this really helps. 10-15 min walk along with coffee and eye drops wakes me right up. Also a shower in the morning :) shower at night to wind down, I usually breast feed my baby to put him to bed, laying down and that makes me pass out since we go sleep :) thanks for the video!

Really good tips. Tryptophan is actually present in breast milk and other foods such as nuts, seeds, tofu, cheese, red meat, chicken, turkey, fish, oats, beans, lentils, and eggs. I never thought about the coffee and sleep tip but going to try it. Saying that, I’m not a newbie mum....my youngest is 14 😂

It's so hard for me to sleep at night now. I have a 7 week year old newborn. She's a good baby and easy but of course she feeds every two to three hours. This is my second kid so I was prepared for sleep deprivation. I am struggling with anxiety. For some reason I am getting anxiety about when the next time she will wake up in the middle of the nite will be. It frustrates me. Not 2 mention, my husband is absolutely useless and refuses to help me. Idk wut to do anymore. This is a deal breaker for me. I'm struggling, and he KNOWS this, won't do a thing.

For me its cosleeping. I still Wake up (a lot) but just Not to have to leave the bed, stay warm and fall asleep again much faster helps me a lot. During the day I Take One nap with my Baby. Usually in the morning when my big boy is at school.
