Give it up to Jen for editing the intro and outro for this video. She's been working to learn how to edit and is doing great, so give her some major props!
Jen Congrats you're a Natural when it comes to Editing since Wives/Mothers live to Edit their Hubby and Kids Lives...Just Kidding it's still a bit true though LOL
I so agree with Jen on how this is one of those movies where you just laugh out loud to continuously and there just aren't those kinds of movies being made anymore. I watched this at work and it was so hard to not bust out laughing even though I knew all of the scenes and jokes beforehand. Absolutely great movie!
Funny trivia: At the Dumb and Dumber Hollywood premier, Jeff Daniels ran into Clint Eastwood who told him that the bathroom scene from the movie actually happened to him. Daniel's recounted that Clint was going on a date, he really wanted to impress his date, he'd eaten the wrong thing at lunch and when he got to her house...he needed to get to the bathroom IMMEDIATELY!!
11:00 Jen mentioned that a lot of this movie was improvised - Harland Williams, the comedian who plays this Highway Patrolman, has talked about how he was picked to be part of this movie (he initially auditioned for Jeff Daniels' role,) because the right people loved this dolphin bit that he did as part of his stand-up set. While shooting this scene, he was asked to incorporate that dolphin impression somehow on the spot and this is what he came up with. He talked about how amazing it felt being able to make both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels break character and burst out laughing at his improv because both of them were already legends at the time and he was essentially nobody yet. There's an awesome podcast clip titled _Harland's Relationship With JIM CARREY & "Dumb and Dumber"_ that goes into a lot of detail about his experience, which is pretty fascinating. It's a 15-minute chunk of conversation about a scene that's maybe a minute long, but it's interesting the entire way through.
My favorite fun fact is that if Mary had married Lloyd her name would be Mary Christmas. I think it was in the extended or director's cut but the scene where Lloyd says it was cut from the original (thus I only learned this like two years ago, lol)
Jeff Daniels did this movie for a measly salary of *_$50,000_* while Jim Carrey made *$7,000,000.* The studio wanted another big name comedian to play opposite Carrey, and the lowball offer was meant to dissuade Daniels, who wanted to break from type and do some comedy. Daniels' manager thought it would be career suicide, so he didn't try to negotiate and discouraged his client from taking the job. Daniels took the job anyway, and the studio was STILL so down on him that they did his first several scenes without Carrey so they could re-cast him without any reshoots. He was basically auditioning for a job he already had! Carrey was super supportive of his co-star, though, and encouraged the studio to stick with him. After the first couple of scenes that Daniels did, Carrey assured him that he killed it. Upon review, the studio realized Daniels actually had the chops for the movie and the chemistry with Carrey to make it work. And the rest is history. The two have had lifelong respect for each other ever since. Edit: Oh, yeah, and at the same time, Carrey was on his meteoric rise during filming of this movie. He initially asked for 2M and the studio refused. Then Ace Ventura came out, and they went back into negotiations, with Carrey taking 7M instead of the 2 he originally asked for. His take was nearly half of the movie's entire budget, at $16M. Made sense that they wanted Jeff Daniels on the cheap, but they weren't going to get another A-list comedian for $50k, either. Crazy how the world turns out sometimes, innit?
This is one of my favorite comedies as well. I remember the first time I saw this movie in the theater. I was crying, I was laughing so much, and I was a little bit sore the next day. They don't make comedy like this anymore, and it is a tragedy. Great pick, Jen! Ace Ventura 2 is another one of my absolute favorites of Jim Carrey. I liked it more than the first one.
I can't fathom how someone who consumes as much cinema as Holden hasn't just accidentally seen Dumb and Dumber over the years. It's on TV all the time and is probably one of the most quoted comedies of the last 30 years.
Fun Fact: The movie was filmed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado (entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park). The Stanley Hotel is famous for being haunted and the hotel that inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. If you visit there is a whole gift shop just dedicated to The Shining. The hotel bar has the moon landing newspaper framed too.
The hotel that is supposed to be in Aspen is actually in Estes Park, Colorado where a lot of the Colorado scenes were filmed. It is the Stanley Hotel, where Steven King stayed and was the inspiration for "The Shining". The 1996 remake miniseries was also filmed there.
I knew there was no way Holden wouldn't love this movie, it's such a legendary movie of the 1990s. If Jen hasn't seen the sequel, you guys should totally react to it together. It's not AS good as this one (they waited too many years to make it), but it's still an entertaining flick.
Yeah I too don't mind the sequel. Well 2nd sequel. Bob Saget has the most memorable part of the whole franchise honestly. But Dumb and Dumber To is good and entertaining. Just not in the same league as the first. I feel the same about Sin City 2. Good film just waited too damn long
The cut to the FF7 music at 7:20 was amazing -- someone else finally noticed this! Every single time I've heard it since I was young, it reminded me of that bit of the FF7 Battle Theme. So happy to see someone else notice it
For those of you wondering how Harry got rid of the Poo in that Diarrhea scene there was a delete scene where he unbolted the toilet and dumbed the poo out the window lol

Comedy is a genre that is at high risk of aging badly but this is one of those movies, especially of the slapstick variety, that manages to age really well. I'd say over 90% of the funny moments and jokes still land. For being a movie about 2 dumb characters, the movie is expertly written with smart dialogue. A terrific comedy.
So happy that Holden finally saw this film all the way through. I turned 14 that year and had graduated Middle School, this one and The Mask has been on my mind a lot quoting lines until it annoyed people. This is such a great 90's comedy classic. Jim and Jeff are quite the dynamic duo. Great reaction!

Jen earned the trifecta with this: Intro edit/outro edit/amazing movie choice. This is a classic and it doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it's still hilarious to me. Thanks for this, Jen. This was easily one of my favourite comedies as I kid. I remember watching it with my mum at the cinema when it was released, then bought it on video around 1996. This, The Mask and Ace Ventura all remind me of my childhood. Jim Carey was THE number one comedic actor for me, and my friends, growing up. As far as the Farrrelly brothers go, There's Something About Mary is quite possibly their funniest of the lot. If neither you nor Holden have seen Kingpin, I thoroughly recommend giving that a butchers too. Much love to you both, from the UK.
I probably haven't seen this movie in almost 20 years, but when some scenes were coming up they instantly came back to me. I forgot how hilarious this was.

This has always been one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies. My all time favorite movie of his is The Mask followed very closely by Ace Ventura(the first film). Then this and Liar Liar. I’m glad these comedy movies don’t get old. Just goes to show how much better the writers were then compared to now.
I love this movie! Jim Carrey is a comedic legend. Kudos to the Farrelly brothers as well for directing this hilarious but also really good movie. They made a movie called Kingpin starring Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray also one called There's Something About Mary starring Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz. Two more hilarious and good movies. And props to Jen for picking this one and Face/Off. I have a new found respect for her. Not that I disliked her but I just didn't know that she would pick such great awesome films.
I quote this film on a daily basis! I can’t believe Holden had never seen this! I’d love to see if he’s never seen Liar Liar. Hell even Dumb and Dumber Too would be great!
Well yeah, because this was when he was just taking off. 1994 was the year he became a star which was when it came out… Ace Ventura, the Mask and Dumb & Dumber all came out in 94, his career took off faster than any other movie star’s career did. Not even Tom Cruise’s career took off that fast
I love this movie. Hollywood comedies usually have to be something else too… comedy romance, comedy action or crime movie and they always seem to be funny for the first 2/3rds and then they give up on the jokes and it gets serious. Dumb and Dumb is packed with funny stuff all the way through. It also has heart… you are on Harry and Lloyd’s side and you believe they are best friends. Less said about the sequel the better 😏

I quote this film on a daily basis! I can’t believe Holden had never seen this! I’d love to see if he’s never seen Liar Liar. Hell even Dumb and Dumber Too would be great!
about time you got holden back!
The BEST comedy film ever made, every line is comedic gold and so quotable. I agree with Jen, this is Jim Carrey's highest point in his career!
Well yeah, because this was when he was just taking off. 1994 was the year he became a star which was when it came out… Ace Ventura, the Mask and Dumb & Dumber all came out in 94, his career took off faster than any other movie star’s career did. Not even Tom Cruise’s career took off that fast
BRO NEVER SAW DUMB & DUMBER?
Duuuuuude I’m surprised but glad you loved it 😂
I love this movie.
I woke up today not expecting this. I’m intrigued
