There are plenty of older Mercedes on the road with their original owner. A Mercedes can be a lasting vehicle, depending on the time period and model. Secondly, as a Lexus owner also, they aren't cheap to service as they age, only cheaper than a Euro car, but not cheap. A Mercedes, engine, paint, suspension, interior will hold up just as well as anything if taken care of. Not all European cars are created equal either. Lexus wants to be luxury and they are, but this excuse about them being more reliable doesn't carry enough weight anymore, and their sales of their RWD vehicles prove this. Lexus is about ES, NX, and RX now. Their fun cars don't sell, they're too outdated, LC500 convertible excepted.

The 18 is and was a work of art. I was 59 when I bought mine and think the "softening" was a mistake. The original purity and lines to me, including the uncluttered dash, the original headlight and tailight design, combined with the body lines were perfect. To each their own, but to me Lexus is the top of the food chain.

    • @sufall96

Lexus is top notch in terms of reliability… I’ve owned several Lexus and still to this day I think the ownership experience in terms of reliability and the dealerships are top notch. We’ve owned an RX 330, GS 400h and LS 460. With that said, we currently on a Mercedes S class and of course you don’t get the reliability of the LS however, the S class is in another class in terms of ride quality, elegance and technology. Of course you get the prestige with the three pointed star as well, but I never dwelled on that or really care about that. The only thing above an S class would be a Bentley or Rolls. With that said, the LS provides a great value in terms of what you get in a full size luxury sedan. I definitely would consider purchasing another one at some point.

Toyota/Lexus through the years has proven itself over and over again has being the most reliable and sought out vehicles to have. Use or new. They are not perfect. But they come the closest to perfection than any other vehicle manufacturers.

Lexus products are behind in the flashy department, but they are extremely reliable. Having driven some tech-fest Germans, you hardly use most of their pointless technology. Lexus makes sure their cars are reliable and high-quality first before worrying about the tech. This results in cars that are cheaper and more reliable at the cost of all the new tech and a little on the driving experience. And to be honest, the LS is a work of art compared to the current gen A8, S class and 7 Series. The only executive sedans the Germans make that I think can compete with this in terms of overall desirability are the W222 S-class and the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Everything else is boring.

So those under 30 love the styling? Not really a big bragging point, since that demographic probably couldn't afford/ aren't in the market for a new one.
This styling makes it look like Lexus is trying too hard to be noticed. While it may work on some of their sportier cars, it really looks out of place and even a bit obscene in this segment.

Are you a potential buyer for the car? I'm 41 and I bought one in December. I've gotten a lot of compliments. It's a very good car. And that's coming from someone who owned a 2004 LS430 and 2011 LS460.
