- When I was 16, my world shattered when I realized other people don't hear colors in music. Here is the story of how it went down!

Once in an art class, we were encouraged to listen to a piece of music and then try to paint the images it inspired. It was a stretch for most of us to take auditory sensations and turn them into visual images, but if I tried to imagine what was happening in the piece of music, the images definitely had color and personality. I don’t automatically see colors when I hear music, but I believe it is something we might be able to train ourselves to do with practice.
So where do you see the color you hear?
In your minds eye
I buy that. To me the Beatles are blues and greens and The Rolling Stones are browns and oranges.
Also some math problems have color. 4x8=32 is blue and 7x3=21 is yellow.
32 is one of my favorite colors then, oh well I meant to say numbers, but blue is one of my favorite colors so basically the same thing.
I can see the colors in numbers, but I don't see colors in music. That's very interesting.
Same, but with inner monologues. Like it's just quiet inside some people's heads. What?
Interesting... I've never heard of it but sounds very interesting.
I've heard colors in music since I was taking piano lessons at the age of about ten. My mom happened to understand it, so when I mentioned "playing the pink notes," she had some idea of what I was talking about, and was able to explain what it was. I'm in my late 40s now, and I still hear color in music. Numbers also have colors for me--I see a rainbow every time I play Sudoku.
Do you have perfect pitch also?
This is so interesting! I was almost 30 when I realized that most people don't "hear" textures that they touch. That's the closest I can get to describing it... It's a sensation inside of my ears, and the more irregular a texture is the louder it feels.
Synthetic fabrics are the worst.
😮❤word! 😊
Synesthesia
You mean people don't hear colors in music? I thought everyone did.
