If hardik isn’t fit, India will definitely go with both ash and jadeja. They did that last time as well and it worked especially cause most Australian pitches by the end are wearing. Maybe they’ll play one spinner in Gabba where it doesn’t deteriorate as much

Kimber should objectively analyse Kohli stats since 2020 and make a case for his inclusion in any test squad. Kohli's occasional brilliance in limited overs and past reputation has been carrying him for far too long. No other batsman will ever get away with such a serious slump.

It looks like Shami won't be available for BGT for atleast first 2 tests because of his fitness issues. In this case, Akash Deep have great role in this BGT to scare aussies in their backyard. It looks like Bumrah, Siraj and Akash will be the pace trio for BGT. Hardik Pandya won't be playing because India cannot risk him before Champions trophy barely after one and half month of BGT. So Shardul will play as fourth seamer as we saw in previous BGT.

I just hope they don't call him "just hype" if he does decently in Australia and scores at least 2 centuries or they don't go "oh well Australia let him get those runs or Australia let India win" or something. As for Australian side, not giving Bancroft the opportunity at the top only to send the most in form middle order batter who can't defend fourth stump line deliveries to open is the kind of overthinking Australia has only done once in the past: when they played 4 pacers and no spinners in India

This is where Hardik and his lack of fitness for Tests (i am assuming the reason) is a problem. Having a player who can bowl fast and bat like Green, Marsh and Pandya are worth their weight in gold in Tests.

Ashwin was India's best bowler last time around. Picked more wickets at a better avg than even Bumrah.
That being said, this discussion is clearly outdated as opinions might have changed post Bangladesh series. Rishab came back with a bang, Rahul did well, 4th seam option in Akashdeep(wasn't even discussed) is almost settled, Gill seemed a bit more comfortable in his role and Ashwin notched up another 5-fer and a 100.
I'd play Jadeja purely as a batter who can come in handy depending on the situation and pick Ashwin as the primary spinner.

Jadeja played just 3 innings and that is too small a no. As you play more the law of averages catches up.
For eg. Ashwin took 8 wickets @ 13.25 in his first 3 innings of the tour.
Also, Ashwin was picking up top 7 wickets in that series. 10 of his 12 wickets were from top 7(batsmen). Steve Smith was literally his bunny.
3 bowlers played 6 innings for Ind. Ash, Bumrah and Siraj. Ash was the best of these 3.
Also, 5fers are a poor way to judge. Jadeja also has just 1 5fer and that was in SA '14. Probably, the last time SA gave a relatively spin friendly surface for India. Our spinners don't need to take 5fers in SENA coz we have an amazing fast bowling attack.
Also, I've literally said that Jadeja should play purely for his batting. Ash is the better spinner, Jadeja is the better batsmanand allrounder.
My point was that both should play for Ind.

@@madhavrathore5988 Still irrelevant. Ashwin's overall Aus stats are bad coz of the 6 matches he played in 2012 and 15. Both the series had absolute roads. Spinners had terrible record in both the series. You can go check the performance of spinners(nathan included) in the 6 matches Ash played.
In fact Indian bowlers in general had terrible record. Jadeja was lucky to not play in them.
In SENA only 2 countries should ideally count, Aus and Eng. Nz and SA surfaces for Ind series over the past 8-10 years have made spinners redundant. Either the sample size and/or bowling spells are small and/or the conditions extremely unfriendly.
So here's the relevant stats. Since 2016, in Aus and Eng, Ash avg's 27 and jadeja 36
In SENA overall Ash avg's 30.5 and Jadeja 32.5.

jesus my guy, they are different challenges. The wickets in Australia are far closer to those south african pitches vs the indian turning wickets. Why are you guys so sensitive to criticism? all he said was we arent sure if Jaiswal can perform on fast bouncy wickets yet, given when havent seen him do so?
@@njokic2176 I never said anything about Jaiswal... Its about the glaring double standards.. Those south african wickets were deadly and unplayable.. I mean SA was bowled out for 50 odd runs in the first innings.. but there was hardly any criticism from the English and the Australian commentators back then... and even now those are only "tough" wickets..
now compare that with the way the Indian wickets are criticized though there has never been an instance where a side got bowled out under 100 in the first innings...

@@Bhavik630 if you google "107 overs of chaos jarrod kimber" you'll see Jarrod's report on the Ind SA Cape Town test you were talking about - He pretty unambiguously says the pitch was poor and if the match had gone on any longer it should have received an "unfit" rating, which is the worst rating the ICC can give (Plus the pitch got a demerit point from the ICC). The guy is pretty fair in his assessments, he's not like Michael Vaughan for example

I'm not really sure how he is at number 6. He missed a whole chunk of tests including all 5 tests vs Eng and didn't have to do much vs Bangladesh. He had a good 2023 but it was on the back of two hundreds on absolutely dead wickets. I think his best test batting performance in a long while has been the 70 odd he made in SA on a seaming wicket where no one else scored.

Mitch Marsh (a batter with an average of 30) is chosen over Pant who is averaging 45. How? And Deep is like yeah! Pant coming out of car crash with one knees is better than Marsh.

Jadeja bowled better then Ash in that BGT 20-21 series and almost everyone ignores his performance in that series.
In that series Ashwin played 6 Innings and took 12 Wickets at the Avg. of 29
Jadeja bowled just 2 Innings and took 7 wickets at the Avg. of 15 😲 (which was best in that series of between all bowlers)..
So Jadeja bowled better then Ashwin in that series
Jadeja is too too underrated bowler then Ashwin in SENA Countries.
Ashwin has yet to take Fifer in SENA Countries even after playing 25 matches but Jadeja has with playing lesser matches.
And we all know Jadeja's Batting.
Jaddu will play in playing XI without a doubt.

If you are going for current form youd select india wouldnt you? Theyve been playing bangladesh at home havent they? Marnus has struggled ill admit it, but he has gotten fifties consistently, averaged 30 in the ashes, 40 in the aussie summer and had a game changing 90 in nz, hes not useless and is still one of the best test batters in the world. Shubman is more talented but hes nowhere close to the temperement, defensive game or even the technique as marnus, he isnt the same player, one averages 50 and the other 37, stupid recency bias, the same way i wouldnt select mohammad rizwan over kohli even tho one has been doing better than the other
