Bashir is somersets 3rd best spinner, it’s crazy to me how he’s in the side
I had a feeling we would need Leachy to get us over the line going into the final day and he did just that.
I'm really pleased for him and he's definitely England's number 1 spinner going forward. I really think that Bashir needs to take a break from test cricket and consolidate what he learned from his test career so far. That would leave an opening for Rehan Ahmed. I would love to see England with a wrist spin option in the last two tests.
Ollie pope scored 150 last game, and captained well, would just play 4 frontline bowlers and root
Root will faint if he has to bowl 40 overs and bat 200 balls again.
I don’t think he has captained well most of the time. He is poor with his reviews. The first Pakistan innings in the field was not good. His batting average has not been good of late. Think we should look at other options.
He will be the one who has to go unfortunately, just because of the make up of the team, not because it’s deserved
@@TheDanthemanJones Agree reviews are poor, but his job is to create 20 chances and they created plenty more. To have 3 centuries in s sub par year is good. Just needs to find consistency?
@@GrahamM2341 good point, last time in pakistan they dropped the keeper and gave pope the gloves. Pope said the other day the bowling for stokes isn’t the issue its the batting so i don’t think he will get dropped

England should drop Ollie Pope. There is no obvious place for him in the batting line up unless he bats number 3. This is a position to which he is technically and mentally unsuited. He is dismissed early and for few far too often. The occasional feast can't make up for the long periods of famine!

There may be some truth there because the people of Pakistan are so wonderful. But West Indians, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans, New Zealanders and Irish people are also very nice. (England have never played Afghanistan in a test match.)

See comments around just taking one spinner and utilising root has a second spinner. We need two spinners and I wouldn’t want Root as one of those as he is likely to be on the middle with the bat for hours and to then bowl a ton load overs we risk burning him out

It always seems as soon as you make someone captain, with the exception of Root , their run rates seem to drop. If you bring in Stokes ,Pope should be dropped, apart from a recent score ,hes consistently under achieved with the bat. Saying that hes a good player to have in reserve & will become more consistent.
