    This video goes over how to mod your mechanical keyboard stabilizers. The mods shown work on both plate mount and pcb mount stabilizers (eg. durock stabilizers, everglide stabilizers, genuine cherry stabilizers.) It also goes over how to lube your stabilizers if you cant remove them.

    The band aid wrap by itself is a HUGE difference in sound and well worth it imo especially for the space bar as it’s a good beginner mod

  • @YBBK
    @YBBK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +101

    YOU CAN DO ALL THE OTHER MODS TOGETHER EXCEPT FOR HOLEE MOD OR BANDAID WRAP, ONLY CHOOSE ONE!!
    I forgot to include this in the video, your stabilizer stems may come pre clipped. If so, you can skip the clipping part. If you are clipping, please make sure the bottom of the stem is completely flat and no parts of the leg remain, in the video, I did not show this. In addition, the bandaid on plate mod only applies to those who what plate mount stabilizers. For those who have pcb mount, you can skip that part. NOTE: I did not include wire balancing in this video, unfortunately at the time I did not know about it. I’d say wire balancing is the one of the most crucial steps in ensuring no tick or rattle. Please consider searching it up and following a tutorial!

    Fantastic camera work. The closeups on those stabilizer mods are excellent. And the way you showed how to reassemble a stabilizer "make sure the orientation is correct" (paraphrased), was very helpful. I'm about to mod stabilizers for the first time and was actually avoiding doing it because what if I can't get the stabilizer back together properly. (It happened when I first started working with switches.) This video has given me more confidence to go forward. Thank you.

    I recommend using krytox for the wire and the housing and stem. Dielectric grease will make your stabs a bit too mushy. Although I can say your spacebar after those mods do sound nice

    • @YBBK
      @YBBK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Usually I would recommened 205g2 for wires over dielectric grease as you said. However, in my case, the fabric tape I use is significantly thinner than normal bandaids. As a result, I chose to use dielectric grease. But yes, I should have addressed that.

    • @solderbuddy
      @solderbuddy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trick is to use only a little dielectric grease then its not that mushy.

    Plan on using this guide later on as stabilizers have been giving me the most trouble so far. Esp spacebar. Btw what kind of tweezers do you recommended for this kind of fine work?

    I dont know what I was thinking, doing this mod with outemu blues wont make it sound any better, but it feels much better, and hopefully when I get some new switches It will sound and feel much nicer than it would without this mod, thanks!

    this is the video I was looking for. Thank you so much! One question. Which Holee mod is better; Band Aid in the house Stem or band aid around the wire? also I noticed you put tape on the PCB only on the bottom part, why not also the upper part of where the house connects to the PCB?

    Note! The wire wrap mod only lasts for a couple weeks. The bandage gets soaked in lube and falls towards the bottom of the stabilizer thus caused the most ear piercing rattle. do it the right way!

      @YBBK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really? I might be due to different materials, but one of my keyboard with bandaid wrap has lasted for 4 months and still fine

      @@YBBK might be because you used medical tape and isn't as likely to change while being soaked in lube and used. But idk wtf I'm talking about just a theory

    This took me a few hours and a lot of brain cells, but my space bar sounds a lot better now even without any grease or lube.
    I also added pieces of tape on the PCB where the stabillizer makes contact, not sure if that did anything.

    • @YBBK
      @YBBK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! IMO, the tape on pcb part makes the stabilizers feel mushy but it really depends on preference

    hey man, I have another question: I'm using gpl 205 grade 0 to lube the housing and stem, can I also use it for the wire? Or is a thicker grease required?
    Also would you recommend the holee mod over the band aid wrap? I couldn't really hear too big of a difference. Thanks for the video btw!

    • @YBBK
      @YBBK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For the wire I would highly recommend a thicker lube like 205g2, xht-bdz or dielectric grease. If you use 205g0, the lube will get displaced very easily and you will have to relube the wires frequently. You could use 205g0 as a temporary fix. Also, I would recommend the holee mod, I believe it’s a bit better in terms of feel and sound.

    the second mod , tape on the bar , is it on top of the first one ? or just a quick way to improve it without the first mod
