The Casulana Lute Consort is an Early Music ensemble based in Basel, Switzerland.
The members met at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and share the vision to revitalize lute consort music.
Their repertoire ranges from Renaissance to early baroque music, and includes compositions by the lutenist, Madalena Casulana.
She is the first female composer known today to have had her music published, and the consort is named after her.
The Consort’s debut video with lute quartets by Nicolas Vallet was commissioned by the German Lute Society.

Fantastic! Back in the late 1970's, I had a Deutsche Grammaphon cassette entitled "Concerto for Four Lutes". This is even better, because I can see the lutes being played.
People SO often forget that dynamics work differently on the lute
It is wrong to make comparisons with a string quartet using bowed instruments

Ces instruments sont des luths. Plus précisément, de gauche à droite : un luth soprano, un luth alto, un luth ténor et enfin un luth basse. (Une autre forme de luth basse est appelée théorbe, le plus grand qui est souvent joué dans les ensembles baroques.)

Beautiful! But they are trying too hard not to outshine one another. More dynamics, please. I realize this is more difficult with an inexperienced lute quartet than with an experienced string quartet. Lovely musicianship, great start!
