    I would say the boost button comes into its own when your driving in comfort or eco mode and you just want the 500bhp for a moment to pass something quickly instead of messing about and changing driving mode.

    It's a good review. As an American, it's pretty fairly priced. In America, there are two models, and they are built in the USA and therefore qualify for the $7500 tax credit.
    With the tax credit factored in, the MSRP of the lower-end "Advanced" model (at $60,000) is $11,000 under the base-model Jaguar I-Pace (at $71,000) and $2k under the base-model MB EQB.
    Just suggesting that this is a quality review, but conclusions on the price-point are really location-dependent.

    If you think other manufacturers don’t have long options list, you clearly haven’t tried the Porsche configurator! My eGV70 arrives next month, and will effectively replace both my old Range Rover (don’t need such a big car anymore) and my BMW-Alpina. As for pricing, you really do need to look at lease costs, rather than just cash prices - many buyers will be going for salary sacrifice schemes, for this class of car… You’re of course right that the range could be 20% longer, but is it much worse than an i-Pace, which charges much more slowly?

    • @mathewscoines8219
      @mathewscoines8219 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congrats on your choice :-) My eGV70 is arriving on 13th March and is salary sacrifice and so the estimated stronger residual value (monthly cost determinant) coupled with excellent tax saving re BIK and tax allowance makes this a great choice for me. Agree that range is the only slight disappointment however home charging and fast charging arch. make this much less of an issue. Helps that we get Ionity at half price too!

      @mathewscoines8219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BTW I was originally going to go with Taycan but couldn't stomach the options list cost from base price (even as salary sacrifice)... and for what it's worth, although love the look of iPace, I think the same re the options list/cost.

    The Genesis badge on their cars make them look like small Bentleys. And their styling and quality could make them like the Crew vehicles.
    with regards to the rear luggage cover and not being able to use it if loading the car, I have a handy tip.
    *_Buy a cheap, black single bed mattress elasticated cover. If you've got tinted rear windows, it'll make it virtually impossible to see anything inside unless you get up really close to the rear window. And all you'll still see is the blackness from the mattress cover._*
    That aside. I really do like the G70. It's a really stylish car with no flashy additions. The lines are smooth and clean cut. As for the interior. It's almost sumptuous.

      If you can stomach the looks the BMW is probably the better drivers car with less compromises as it’s a dedicated EV. The Genesis isn’t. That being said there is a lot to recommend the Genesis. I’d say drive both and see which one suits your needs best. Better warranty and great customer service from Genesis, the iX drives slightly better. I’ve reviewed all the iX models and you’ll find a review on the iX 40 on the channel.

    I bought the GV60 over this. For $10k less in the US, The GV60 has much nicer quirks and features than the GV70: The crystal ball, the face recognition, the larger screen, and pop-out door handles. The GV70 is also only available in greyscale colors, so it seems to be made for people who don't want to be noticed on the road. That said, the GV60 should really have a charge door in the front of the vehicle.

  • @SteveLoughran
    @SteveLoughran ปีที่แล้ว

    the vehicle radiates "designed for americans" with the front logo and rear font radiating the kind of thing which in the US tries to radiate wealthy sophistication (see chrysler pacifica; lincoln stuff).
    that's just a detail -the real way that US market shows is how the rear indicator lights are tucked away as an afterthought. In the US, a blinking red rear light is allowed as an indicator. So US models's brake lights become be eye-level brake lights. Here they've had to think "we can't do useful lights -so where can we find some space for them?". The space they have found is down the bottom where it's not so easily seen when there's more traffic -obscured even by a cycle or e-scooter, and often I don't seem to notice them until the vehicle is turning. iThey are in the wrong place -it's like helmet lights on cyclists-they aren't in that horizontal plane where you normally look for lights and signal. I and surprised is it's legal -but even if it is, it shows that UK/EU market is considered secondary

    I don't have £90k to spend on a car but, if I did I wouldn't be spending it on a Genesis. I really would want to be making a big "look at me "kind of statement to be honest. Badge snobbery would make me go elsewhere, regardless of quality. However, as a company car, I could be swayed.

      @mathewscoines8219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree this is a much better proposition as company car/salary sacrifice (I couldn't afford to buy this car either). At moment residuals are estimated quite high (so lower monthly cost). If used prices fall then it could be a good choice to purchase after lease/salary sacrifice term expires too (lower monthly cost then lower buy price). I have salary sacrifice eGV70 arriving next month and have chosen 4 year term for this reason.

    • @Antiguan_Dart
      @Antiguan_Dart ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope they update this to the E-GMP platform and maybe that 2.5mi/kWh efficiency will increase - it’s the same BHP as the 20cm shorter AWD Sports Plus GV60 with the same tech and same drag co-efficient but 155kg heavier! I simply wouldn’t spend that much money on an EV vehicle which isn’t ground up bespoke EV architecture - the compromise shows in the lack of efficiency!
      It’s about 100kg heavier than an iPace!
      If the extra trunk and rear cabin space afforded by those 20cm is not really needed a fully loaded AWD GV60 Sports Plus is possibly a better proposition at £74,000.

    • @mathewscoines8219
      @mathewscoines8219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Antiguan_Dart good point made. It’s a hearts and minds choice for me. I originally ordered the GV60 sports plus model fully loaded. I changed my mind to the electrified GV70 as this is my first EV and so I wanted something a bit more conventional. Also aesthetically I prefer how the GV70 looks (as a family car).
      I do agree the GV60 ticks more boxes with a practical head on but I just love the GV70 more (test drove them both).
      I think if you can charge from home and need the boot space plus want a slightly more conventional cabin then the GV70 can make sense. Fast charging and pre-conditioning makes the range more acceptable and obviously use case. I would charge often for shorter periods on longer road trips anyway due to the charge curve (on both vehicles). It’s harder to take this approach with iPace or EQC for example as only have 110KW charge capability so overall range is more of a consideration as fast charging doesn’t compensate so well.
      All that said it is indeed hard to argue on paper for the GV70 when comparing to GV60. However there are aspects which you don’t get until you test drive or have a use case which aligns to the fast charging (charge often for less time) approach for example and so then less practical (subjective) aspects can (maybe) be more easily justified 😊
      I do think whichever car is chosen it’s a great choice as both are amazing vehicles!

    • @Antiguan_Dart
      @Antiguan_Dart ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mathewscoines8219 Don’t get me wrong aesthetics and personal preferences play a big part in car choice and I think the range of choice in EVs in just the last 18 months is amazing!
      The GV70 is a bigger car than the GV60 ( with all the benefits that entails rear cabin space/boot space) and the two have very distinct looks with some unique features to each other eg. 3D dials, tri-zone climate and opening sunroof of the GV70; and totally flat rear floor, interior 13A socket and open airy front centre console of the GV60- which might appeal to different people. As for the driving dynamics interesting to hear the difference and again may be more of concern to some than others.
      If one can stretch to the considerable price difference then the pence per kW saving of the more efficient GV60 isn’t going to be a big deal. Both great cars so whom ever chooses the GV70 - good on ya - fill your boots.

    As of April 2024,Genesis has a 13 month lease this month for the ELECTRIFIED models. Per Genesis offers website, Advanced trim of the gv70 Ev is 499/ month, 3999 down for 10k miles. 😮 I got 9500 cash back ("EV Lease Bonus") for the 13 months gv70 lease, now there is a 17500 cash back for the 36 month gv70 lease, cutting down another 100 LESS monthly compared to what I got.
    The Gv60 advanced is 469, gv60 Rwd is 379 (same 3999 down) but only max 11000 EV Lease Bonus from Genesis.

    .... Wait 1 year and you can get 10 % increase in battery capacity and EV range without any increase in weight in the gv60, gv70 or IONIQ5.

    If you’re considering an EV for environmental reasons in the UK, I suggest you think carefully about Genesis. I’ve had two incidents with the car both of which necessitated a 520 mile round trip on the back of a diesel lorry to their ONLY service centre in Bicester. Kia and Hyundai dealers can’t work on the car even though it’s structurally identical to EV6 and Ioniq 5. In three months of ownership my carbon footprint is higher than it was in three YEARS of ownership of Teslas.

      Not an issue in the US. The issue may be the quality of the dealers. Also if you are not on a lease you could just go to any mechanic...so not an issue there. Actually...as far as I am aware couldn't you have taken the car just to any Hyundai dealer...you are very vague on that as in the US Genesis is mostly sold through Hyundai dealers. This comment seems kinda fishy in many ways or maybe an extremely rare occurrence. Even looking at the UK, nothing anywhere replicates what this comment is claiming.
