Thanks for your excited review! 😎👍 You do risk confusing people about OPD and regen. The fact is that OPD settings in the menu does NOT alter the level of regen. The car always use maximum regen and refuses the driver to waste any energy that can be recovered. Only if you brake harder than the regen can absorb the mechanical brakes will be used. And you never feel when that happens (as you correctly mentioned) 😎👍
Ordered one back in April. Good to see all the reviews coming through positive. Car should arrive in November. Went for the full performance and a few of the packs (not the lidar one)
Thanks for all the work you do. You have built an amazing Channel. I placed my order for the polestar 3 yesterday. Feels weird having not seen it and not driven it. I did the same with my last EV. I didn’t regret that purchase so 🤞.
I hope the P3 works out as well for you as you last "blind" EV purchase. I suspect it might be a while before test drives are part of the typical EV buying experience.
Bryan thank you again for a very thorough review, as usual. I’ve made this comment before on another video but really need to have some objective data about interior noise levels. These big electric SUVs with giant wheels and tires are in some cases not as quiet as you would expect of a “luxury” vehicle. And this is for Polestar: sticking a large portrait display on a pedestal not even angled toward the driver is NOT a premium look. it’s much more graceful to have a curved display in a band like distribution below the brow of the dash. In addition, I have very serious concerns about the very limited dealer network for these cars in the USA and the availability of service. I live in a densely populated area of the US and the nearest dealer is 120 miles away. Finally, I would note thatI’ve admired several Polestar 2s in my area, except for their paint job. In our relentless sunny climate, the paint on these cars does not look good after two or three years. That is in marked contrast to the BMW, Audi, Jaguar and Mercedes electric cars, which have beautiful paint jobs.
I love everything about it and it'll be my first EV. If you make a compelling product, you want it to speak for itself and it seems they nailed it. I have a midnight performance P3 on order, eta September. Now I wish it would come even sooner.
I really like this EV. I hope Polestar gets some more sales traction in the United States because the companies product pipeline seems plump with winners. Pricing to borrow a cliche "is what it is" and unfortunately most buyers are simply priced out of the new EV SUV market currently. Thanks for the thorough (and thoroughly positive) review of P3! Nice to see.
Excellent and thorough review as always, thanks. I agree that this by far the best looking EV. I had it on order but cancelled as the time-to-market was far too slow and I bought a BMW iX instead. It's ugly in comparison (at least from the front) but the iX drag co-efficient of 0.25 is much better than the P3's of 0.29
I was very excited for this car when it was first announced, then I saw the price. Unfortunately impossible for me at the moment. From your review it looks like it's living up to expectations, loved the Polestar 2 when I had it for a while. The infotainment for me is the best in any car, simple but everything you need.
@@AutoEVI suppose so. I have a Polestar 2 and that’s pretty quick, so I guess it’s pretty equivalent to that in terms of quickness. Seems the real draw from a performance standpoint is the handling which is refreshing considering it’s a bug (EV) SUV.
I think you might have had some electric gremlins on the steering wheel buttons. I'm pretty sure there are supposed to be icons on them that change based on the context.
Excellent quality presentation, well done, it wouldnt matter if you were reviewing a bag of flour, your presentation style is epic. Keep up the amazing work. Certified car nerd here .. Polestar 3, although good, is not in the same league as BMW iX. I encourage anyone to test drive a base trim iX and a Polestar 3 back to back and you will see what I mean. Some transparency on pricing also .. 51:00 .. BMW iX kicks off at 78k GBP in the UK, and the Polestar 3 at 76k GBP, so there is not much in it when base trims are compared. Interestingly I test drove a Porsche Macan last weekend (sibling to Cayenne), and I have to say, this had a shockingly cheaped out interior, hard plastics everywhere. I poked my head in a Cayenne, in the hope of something 'luxurious' and befitting of the Porsche name, however I was left disappointed again, finding acres of hard plastics on the door trims. The salesman gleefully advised I can option whatever I like. That may be so, but that is a sweat inducing exercise at Porsche for those that know. If one gets excited with options, this can easily add 50% to the ticket. For folks at the pointy end of nice esuv shopping, you may wish to wait for the new BMW iX3. I am waiting for this and will compare with new iX5 in 2025/2026.
I tested a Polestar 2 and although the drive was very competant I found that I was a passenger in the car interms of what I was able to control in the car. Constantly having to go through screens to change settings like regen is no fun... I find changing the regen settings or driving modes on the fly engaging as a driver and taking this control away makes this a car for people who just want to travel from A to B range rover style. P3 is far from an efficient car either, 305 miles of a 107kW battery.! I'd like to see a comparison with the Porsche Macan at the same price point... £5k less at the basic spec and £10k+ (and the rest!) more at the performance end. The Porsche doesn't tick all the sustainability boxes which is important but it does in terms of efficiency and driving engagement...
I’d be interested in doing the comparison with the Macan too, but Polestar are seeing their new 4 as the rival for that car. Which I’ve also driven (but can’t tell you anything about it until next month!). What I will say, however, is the 3 is WAY more efficient than the Audi SQ8 etron I’ve been driving this past week. That is woefully inefficient and simply hard to justify at a six figure price tag when the Polestar 3 annihilates it in every single way in my book. The screens aren’t ideal for changing small things, but what I will say is that the size of the graphics and icons on them at least make them easier to select than on other cars. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
love the look of the car, but when you were describing the front facia my eye was drawn to that ugly white badge just sort of stuck on and didn't blend in at all, couldn't stop seeing it after that
A beautiful car.... I respect Polestar enormously for their thoughtful design and excellent quality but the price is truly eye watering..... and it sounds like the driving dynamics are solid rather than scintillating. Even so, if I could I probably would 😂
@@AutoEV yeah but I reckon that says more about pricing in the EV market rather than the Polestar being a bargain! I'm sure you're right on the driving front given its lower centre of gravity than the class norm, but does it really drive better than a car rather than SUV shaped equivalent? I'd put my money on a BMW I5 tourer being better to drive. Again - all of that said I'd still take the Polestar - it's stunning!
Just another note Polestar needs to start selling cars big time. China sales are non existent zeekr outsells it massively in China. New York Stock are nearly delisting polestar due to its tanked share price. It’s basically got bailed out recently by geeley. Price point for your money better than a Merc BMW and Audi. As always a good review 👍
Clearly a very impressive machine but can Polestar stop promising and start delivering to customers? I gave up waiting for the 3 and 4 even to be available to test drive, and ordered the very available (and very good) iX instead. Got a healthy discount too.
