I'm a bit bummed that Dr. Doofenshmirtz never made it on the tier list. Despite being the villain who wanted to take over the tri-state area, he's a loving dad who did everything he can to give Vannesa the best life, which is something that he lacked in his childhood.
Not to mention, chickens are the females of their species. This movie was made before that became cool. As is, he's calling his son a sissy by default.
Ferb's dad is S tier, mainly because he's how I found out my type in men: nerdy, dorky, and British. But also because he loves his kids so much, and it doesn't matter if they're his biological kid or not. There were times when he encouraged Phineas and Ferb, he took time to teach Candace how to parallel park, and in the episode when he turned evil, he turned good again after seeing his kids. I love this man so much.
My problem with Poof is that his whole existence kinda takes away from the found family concept. Cosmo and Wanda being so desperate for their own child, crying everytime they saw a baby and how much they wanted their own kind of takes away the fact that Timmy is supposed to be their ‘child’ anyway.
I can kinda get your reasoning but to cosmo and Wanda being Timmy's fairys is only temporary they love Timmy but would typically only have him for 6 years with him at max I think. Since kids give up their fairies once they grow up and also have their memories wiped I would consider it similar to being a nanny but without even a chance be in their lives once their adults so them wanting a child they get to keep and be apart of that kids entire life makes since to me also I'm pretty sure fairies don't die of old age or if they do they still have ridiculously long lifespan so having a kid that won't die before they do is also a major factor I would think.
Sighs. Timmy is their child technically yes. But that’s no excuse to hate on Poof! Both are great sons for Cosmo and Wanda. I don’t want to argue about this. Especially considering how angry I was when Poof started randomly going missing for no reason in season 9 and 10.
@@FeligamiAdrizoeSworaDooplivian I personally don't hate Poof but i’m merely trying to explain why his entire concept and being written into the show was a bad idea and they could have gone a better way about it.
Poof could have potentially been used to really reinforce the found family concept and given us the great dynamic of an adopted + biological family and instead they fumbled it So Hard.

The guy is literally so rich he could have given Steven an actual high education etc. I get that he is half gem, but leaving him more under their influence made him more connected to their kind than humanity, of course he felt off when dealing with human issues beyond the kid phase.
@@hermescarraro3393the thing is, he got rich when Steven was already an almost teenager. Yes, that does not justify that he did not enrole Steven in middle school (nor do I think there's a school in beach city, I think Connie goes to another city), but the man is not a bad dad by any means. Yes, he could have done better, his main issue is that he favoured giving Steven so much liberty that he was never strict to him and relied that on the gems (mostly garnet, which was the more loving mother, while pearl was... Unstable to say the least and amethyst is more of a rebellious older sister), but having him in mid A-B tier i think is correct. He was not a perfect dad, but he clearly loved his child even though he made some questionable decisions in his upbringing. He should have put his foot down more sometimes, for example when pearl almost took Steven to homeworld or when Steven was helping Marty, the man he knew was a piece of shit. But he was there whenever Steven needed to connect with his human emotions and was very supportive of him (sometimes too much maybe).
@@hermescarraro3393 he got rich well after Steven was born, and at that point Steven was already a capable, tho highly traumatized teenager. I haven't seen The Future, but I wouldn't be surprised if Steven straight-up refused to get an education, at least until he solved his issues. It's weird to say that about a 14yo boy, but at point in his life Steven was mature enough to realize he wouldn't fit in with his peers in a school environment. What would he even talk to them about? The time his space moms kept leaving him alone for hours at the time throughout his childhood or the time he had a stroke because a space dictator stole his bellybutton?
Greg is a TERRIBLE father. The Crystal Gems are even worse guardians because they don't provide Steven with the essential needs that a human wants. He has every right to cut these scumbags out of his life, including his stupid excuse of a dad, and the fact that he hasn't done so already makes me frustrated to no end. Greg, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl do NOT deserve Steven.
I would like to point out because I’ve been obsessed with Encanto since it came out that there’s a scene where Felix says “Camilo! Stop pretending your Dolores so you can have seconds!” And it IS actually Camilo shapeshifted to look like Dolores - I just think it’s a sweet detail that he can recognize his son even while he’s shapeshifted into someone else especially since other people obviously can’t (Mirabel literally talks to Camilo as if he is Dolores before Felix says that and Camilo returns to his normal form) - also! I wonder if Mirabel’s parents treated Maribel differently because they knew she didn’t have enough love and forgot that their other daughters needed it too. Abuela (i hate to use this word, but I am going to) screwed everyone up so it was difficult to divide the love. I feel their parents thought Isabella and Luisa had more positive affirmations and they wanted to be the ones to give Mirabel that. Also, Maribel was treated the exact same way as Bruno and out of all the family members, they knew if Maribel did not have any support system, it is likely she will leave the family too and couldn’t handle that. It was just a cycle of trauma that Abuela passed onto everyone.
That’s a really interesting perspective that I’d never really considered! Maribel’s parents were so focused on trying to preserve her self worth because she didn’t receive a gift and room from Casita that they weren’t able to do the same for Luisa and Isabela. As a result, Luisa felt she only had worth if she worked herself to her breaking point for the family, and Isabela felt she had to be Abuela’s “perfect granddaughter” and stifled the aspects of her personality that did not fit into that mold. It’s terribly sad that fitting in with the family and being appreciated by the town for their abilities (what Maribel so desperately wanted) was just as traumatic and painful for Isabela and Luisa as being the black sheep was for Maribel.
I meant the word screwed, but see how it came out wrong. I hate saying people “screw” up their kids or their family because it is not always black or white. Sorry that it came out wrong. nothing wrong with the word Abuela.
If youve played kingdom hearts you know goofy is a good dad even to kids that are not his. Hes so so sweet watching over Sora. Most stable force in that kid's life.
Yeah. Goofy being a good dad in Kingdom Hearts implied that the events of Goof Troops (and The Goofy Movie and its Extremely sequel) happened. I wouldn't be surprised if Max existed in KH, so you gotta give Goofy some credits.
The fact that we haven't gotten a scene in the Gummi Ship where Goofy brings up Max, Sora acting shocked that Goofy is a dad, and then Goofy goes on and on about his son and how much he loves Max is quite frankly a crime.
21:50 Fun story! There actually are harnesses you can get to make sure your toddlers/young kids don't wander off too far, get hurt etc. and I LOVED having one, because I was obsessed with dogs at the time and would literally beg my parents to let me wear the harness everywhere I went. I was devastated when I grew out of it lol
I had one when I was little, because I was a RUNNER. My dad left the fence gate open once while I was in the backyard, and I was GONE before he could realize his mistake; I ran down the street, and a neighbor had to bring me back, knock on the front door, and be like, "Is this your kid?" When my grandparents were visiting, and my grandpa wanted to take me to the park, my mom told him to leash me, and he was like, "What? Why would she need a leash?" Not two seconds after leaving the house, I ran off across the street, directly in front of an oncoming car, and almost got run over. My mom says that when grandpa brought me back to the house directly after, his face was white as a sheet, and he didn't protest the leash after that. I myself don't recall disliking the harness and leash at all; it meant I could roam around without fear of losing my parents, or my parents being stressed about losing me. I also don't think I needed it for very long; I really only have one memory of wearing it at the park.
To be fair, Greg's haircut wasn't exactly *his* choice. He WAS being threatened at knife point and hanging from the roof, it was either his hair or his neck
The scrapped version of Chicken Little would've been so much better and made so much more sense than the weird sports and aliens movie that actually came out. It would've been about a father trying to get his daughter to be more outgoing, which would've made so much more sense than the weird toxic living vicariously through his son movie we got.
I always assumed the reason Steven never went to the doctor is because of money (and the potential risk of CPS). Insurance is ridiculously hard to get; *good* insurance is even more difficult, and Greg didn't have any money to pay for any bills, since he left it behind for the limelight (and he left the limelight behind for a giant woman). I also assume that money is the reason Greg let his son live with the Gems. I assumed that after Steven started living with the Gems, Greg started living in his van to save more money so he could still provide food and comfort/luxury items for his kid. Granted, I haven't watched the show in a while, so I could be wrong. I agree that he's kind of an A/B-tier dad, tho. He tries, but he wasn't really present enough in Steven's life, and when he was (and rightfully started panicking about what Steven was up to), he was used as a punchline a lot of the time.
I think another reason he might not have taken him to see doctors is because of the whole gem situation. What I think Greg would’ve done if Steven was ever sick or injured was to check with the gems to see if it was some kind of side effect from his gem, but if he ever got really sick or seriously hurt, he’d take him to an actual doctor (that’s my headcanon at least)
@@systematicirony666 That doesn't mean it's good insurance. Most poor people, even with "free" insurance, will avoid doctor's visits and going to the hospital for as long as possible because there's a chance that their insurance won't cover the visit.
@@uafgames9061 ?? No? I've been on state insurance my entire life. It's free and covers basically everything (as long as it's medically necessary). At least it does in North Carolina and Connecticut. Molly's Parents from Epithet Erased, Calliope and Martin, are kind of like Nicole and Richard but somehow even more extreme. They were a functional set of parents together, but when Calliope died, Martin became one of the worst, most neglectful parents ive ever seen. Calliope did all the accounting for the family's toy making business (martin made the toys), so its up to Molly (shes 12) to do it now while her older sister Lorelai (17) jjst sits in her room daydreaming and bullying Molly, and Martin's totally okay with it because he appriciates Lorelai's creativity and thinks shes providing food to the family (shes not) and thats why CPS hasnt stepped in. Imagine Timmy Turner's dad but played completely straight as you hear about how traumatic it all is for Molly.

About the kid leash thing: when my sister and I were little (ages 4 to 6 maybe? I can't remember for sure) she was a flight risk, she is autistic and she would just walk or run away whenever my parents looked away for even a second, so my parents got a harness with a teddy bear as the back part that looked like it was hugging her and it had a leash. People hated my parents for doing this but it kept my sister safe. This was like 15 years ago when autism was still kind of unheard of, so people just thought my parents were lazy or assholes but it was a serious safety issue anytime we went anywhere. I actually was really jealous that my sister wore a harness with a animal on it so I begged my parents and they got me a monkey one lol. After awhile my sister got somewhat better with running away but she still had moments. Basically once she stopped for the most part, she stopped wearing the harness as she didnt really need it anymore, but we still made her hold our hands any time we crossed a street or parking lot (I actually still hold her hand out of habit and we are 19 and 20 lol) my sister loved her harness so much that when she stopped wearing it she wanted to keep it, so my parents cut the leash part off and we played with it like a stuffed animal
lowkey i WISH my mom had a harness/leash for my brother. He’s older than me, but apparently he wandered off a lot and he was FAST. He was diagnosed with autism fairly young as well. She lost him in an international airport in the 90’s 💀.i firmly believe if he has a leash/harness he wouldn’t have gotten lost so many times.
Adhd here diagnose but I probably got some other stuff too. I had one which was a white and gold puppy. Honestly wish other parents wouldn't judge. Kids have different need and need different supports to be happy, healthy, and safe.
I don't understand how leasing your kid in public is bad anyway? Prevents them from wandering off, prevents people from trying to grab them, I don't get it.
Rando fun fact about my childhood experience with Chicken Little: My mom bought the dvd for me and tried to get me to watch it while she had guests over, and I remember her practically begging me to watch it while I just refused for some reason and ended up crying in my parents bedroom, in the dark, with Chicken Little playing in the background. In retrospective looks like my gut feeling was right as the mean-spiritedness of this movie would've likely traumatized me (ok not really but still)
14:43 just finished watching Steven Universe for the first time and oh my gosh I couldn’t agree more! I love Greg but that man seriously neglected the human part of Steven. I wouldn’t mind a series about Steven’s roadtrip adventures and discovering things about his human half (and how his relationship with Connie grows)
Krabs didn’t intentionally splurge money for Pearl’s birthday. That was all SpongeBob. And he wasn’t threatening SpongeBob when he was returning Pearl home. The whole joke is that is he was stopping them from stepping on one of his flowers.
I think "Steven is part-alien, so he couldn't do all this normal human stuff" is _partially_ meant to be just an excuse in-universe: Steven yells that his problem isn't being a Gem, but being a Universe. While Greg was worried about him being half-alien, I think the point is that he also liked the idea of his kid having this hippie type of free way of living away from a lot of the expected societal stuff because he thinks it's the best and happiest way to be. He probably would have wished his kid could live like that even if he wasn't half-alien.
These are very interesting concepts that the show doesn't go into. The fact that all the human race is portrayed as dumb (since they had presence of alien life EVERYWHERE and instead pretended it wasn't there) already set alarms in my head about how the show was going to ignore important aspects of Steven's human side and how it could affect him. The episode where it was revealed that he NEVER went to a doctor (and the reason wasn't an obvious one like "he would've been kidnapped and experimented on once the doctors saw he was half-alien", but rather Greg just being careless apparently??) confirmed my worries. Oh Steven Universe, the perfect example of such great potential ruined in its execution...
I agree that Gru is a great Dad, but I do have one problem with him, mainly that in the second movie he falls into the whole “father protects his daughter from romantic relationships because mysoginy and shit” trope. I’d personally consider putting him in A-tier
As a former child who had severe adHd and who used to be leashed, it doesn’t hurt it’s just irritating when I got excited about something and wanted to go see it but my mom was telling me to wait because she was shopping for clothes 22:13
I think that putting small children on a leash is fine as long as you use it in a respectful manner. It can help prevent wandering and also kidnapping I have adhd and I know as a kid my mom definitely would have benefited from a leash lmao
Bill Green as a dad is wildly inconsistent, he has moments where he is A even S tier, and those moments are probably more common than the others, but his other moments are as low as D sometimes maybe even F tier, and these moments have serious effects on his kids, then theres his anxiety, he has an anxiety disorder, and thats understandable, but it also effects his parenting and other relationships, B tier is the right call, because while he is generally a good father and person, his faults are huge inconsistent and have actual negative consequences throughout the show
Agreed. I love Bill as a father and a character, and his high-tier episodes with Cricket are some of my favorite in the show, but some of his episodes leave a bad taste in my mouth. Then again, that's most of the show for me. 90% of the episodes range from good to PEAK, but there are a small bundle that I mentally lock away into the back of my brain.
I can't believe nobody suggested Doofenshmirtz! Him as a parent is so interesting, especially since him being one was something they kinda came up with on a whim in the middle of season 1 and it developed to a core aspect of how he's portrayed
If you ever do a part 2, you should include Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz and Khan Doorman! 32:40 omg I would have loved this movie twice as much if it had a footloose joke and I want it to be a dad-son pro dance duo musical in homage to footloose. It needs to happen, if only in my brain alone. Nay, my heart.
22:20 As someone who watched season one and some of season 2 of BCG, I would have to agree. I like Cricket as a character but he, my job as a camp counselor last summer and my little cousins do a great job of making contraceptives look like the greatest invention of mankind.
Hoo wee! I can FEEL the dad issues. I'm not that bad with my dad but there are times as a disabled adult I realize how much he didn't try to be There For Me until basically late high school. Anyways, some of my fave animated dads include Bob Belcher, Mr. Fletcher, Hugh Neutron, Mr. Heeler.

26:31 Yes I also want more Encanto! I am baffled that there isn’t yet an Encanto TV show. It’s like tailor made for one of those slice of life sitcom type shows that Disney used to do all the time with their animated movies in like the 90s and the early 2000s. I guess that’s out of fashion now but I think they should bring it back. It would be so easy to make a show centred around Mirabel getting into wacky situations with her family members and the other people from the town. They could expand the cast and give Mirabel a couple of best friends to get into trouble with. They could make her a mentor to children from the town. They could show her growing even more into her (probable) role as the future family matriarch. There’s so many options! Also I want more material to fuel my crack ship of Bruno x the Fish Lady.
Fact about Fairly Odd Parents: TImmy's Parents wanted to have a baby daughter, and prepared everything including future wardrobe and bedroom for her, as well as reading on how to raise her to be the best. i think King Fergus from Brave is an excellent father figure. it was he who said "Princess or not, learning to fight is essential." in support of Merida having a bow despite her mothers protest. Also, he was in the middle of revelry with his fellow highlanders when he dropped it all and showed genuine concern for his wife Eleanors well being when Merida was shuffling her up the stairs. Funny enough, I can recall the only time Mr. Krabs actually made an ernest attempt to bond with Pearl was after he sold the Krusty Krab, only for her to throw it back in his face and told him to find some friends and get a job.

Sighs. Timmy is their child technically yes. But that’s no excuse to hate on Poof! Both are great sons for Cosmo and Wanda. I don’t want to argue about this. Especially considering how angry I was when Poof started randomly going missing for no reason in season 9 and 10.
I personally think Poof is fine, Sparky is pushing it, and Chloe was the breaking point
I always assumed that greg gave steven up to the gems because HE LIVES IN A VAN
to clarify he is not living in a van because he has a lot of money and is doing it for clout on social media he is not living in a fun van life van he is living in a deathtrap van

Why would you hate saying "Abuela"? It's what she's called in the movie and it's just the Spanish word for grandmother.
So true. ❤
My mom got one for me. I wore it until I was 13
I had one when I was little, because I was a RUNNER. My dad left the fence gate open once while I was in the backyard, and I was GONE before he could realize his mistake; I ran down the street, and a neighbor had to bring me back, knock on the front door, and be like, "Is this your kid?"
When my grandparents were visiting, and my grandpa wanted to take me to the park, my mom told him to leash me, and he was like, "What? Why would she need a leash?" Not two seconds after leaving the house, I ran off across the street, directly in front of an oncoming car, and almost got run over. My mom says that when grandpa brought me back to the house directly after, his face was white as a sheet, and he didn't protest the leash after that.
I myself don't recall disliking the harness and leash at all; it meant I could roam around without fear of losing my parents, or my parents being stressed about losing me. I also don't think I needed it for very long; I really only have one memory of wearing it at the park.

Insurance is literally free if you're poor UH
@@systematicirony666 That doesn't mean it's good insurance. Most poor people, even with "free" insurance, will avoid doctor's visits and going to the hospital for as long as possible because there's a chance that their insurance won't cover the visit.

?? No? I've been on state insurance my entire life. It's free and covers basically everything (as long as it's medically necessary). At least it does in North Carolina and Connecticut. I've never skipped a doctor's appointment or hospital trip just because I'm on free insurance (ESPECIALLY as a child).
Just to be clear, I couldn't give less of a shit about why Greg didn't take Steven, I love Greg. I wish he was my dad. This is just talking about irl stuff.

Yea I agree (HOLY HECK EE)

Happy Father's Day guys, whether you have a bio dad, an adoptive dad, or an internet dad, just have a great day :3
About the kid leash thing: when my sister and I were little (ages 4 to 6 maybe?
Athena not remembering the middle child in Despicable Me or anything about her is just typical middle child stuff. 😂
I really fucking needed you right now thank you.
“more like tears list. cried a lot making this” ok I’m stealing that 😂
I agree that Gru is a great Dad, but I do have one problem with him, mainly that in the second movie he falls into the whole “father protects his daughter from romantic relationships because mysoginy and shit” trope. I’d personally consider putting him in A-tier
12:44 Probably when he started living in his van. He’s responsible enough to not subject his kid with that, even if Steven would think it’d be cool
It can help prevent wandering and also kidnapping
I have adhd and I know as a kid my mom definitely would have benefited from a leash lmao
23:11 DUDE NAHHH HE GOT A SECOND JOB FOR THE KIDS TO HAVE MORE STUFF ITS SO WHOLESOME BUT I UNDERSTAND A B TIER FOR BILL GREEN
I legit thought that the person in the thumbnail was some random dude, until I read the name of the channel lmfao
I can't believe nobody suggested Doofenshmirtz! Him as a parent is so interesting, especially since him being one was something they kinda came up with on a whim in the middle of season 1 and it developed to a core aspect of how he's portrayed
36:02 my fun theory as to why mr Krabs and Pearl were ok with SpongeBob is because they both assumed he was gay and thus not really threatening
Her ranking Feralton was like giving herself therapy (btw great video and waiting for the Steven Universe vid)

When Timmy was born and it was confirmed he was male, both of them lost hope in life and threw their dreams away.

i think King Fergus from Brave is an excellent father figure. it was he who said "Princess or not, learning to fight is essential." in support of Merida having a bow despite her mothers protest. Also, he was in the middle of revelry with his fellow highlanders when he dropped it all and showed genuine concern for his wife Eleanors well being when Merida was shuffling her up the stairs. This man threw himself in front of bears with no hesitation just to protect his family, and he absolutely acknowledged Meridas accomplishments when she told them about how she climbed the FireFalls (he even uses the title of the movie in that specific line, so double extra bonus points).

As one of the discord members, I love the server! I stayed for like 2 hours watching Tinker bell with the server! Also, my suggestions are in 21:42, and 33:34! (Im nerd)
Was no one else wondering why Athena looks like crypto Luigi tryna get us all to download Atlas Earth?

Thank you so much omg 🥹

you shouldn’t feel forced to make an SU lore video if you don’t want to. that being said, i truly don’t care about the video saying anything that has already been said. i really enjoy your content because no matter what show you cover, you’re incredibly earnest and hilarious, which already makes it a unique viewing experience for me. so even if there’s nothing new to say about a show for you, i can guarantee we would all still watch because of how much we love your content and your personality.
once again, don’t feel pressured to make the video if that is against your wishes. i just wanted to let you know how i feel. 😊
Was hoping to see Dr.Membrane from Invader Zim in F tier.
Looks like your video is less than two hours early for Father’s Day, Athena. Impressive!
Yessss, D A DD Y D ISSUES
I will be quoting this
…why can’t it be D A D D Y Issu-ues
Funny enough, I can recall the only time Mr. Krabs actually made an ernest attempt to bond with Pearl was after he sold the Krusty Krab, only for her to throw it back in his face and told him to find some friends and get a job.
The whole schooling and doctor thing with Greg actually could be read as child neglect, especially pushing him off with the crystal gems, especially knowing that they couldn't parent him right. And the show just seems to kind of brush this all aside
Great video for Father’s Day Athena! Enjoyed the ranking(hoping if you make another one for next year we can include the goat Bandit Heeler in there). Also looking forward towards your Cosmo and Wanda relationship analysis next week! Btw I hope you seen or look into the new Fairly Oddparents Sequel A New Wish when going over them, because they fix their relationship to being more similar to the early seasons of the OG show with both being “Two halves of the whole idiot”. No more nagging wife and dumb husband who hates his wife!
My personal favourite cartoon dad is Professor Utonium. He makes me wish fathers were real.
