Exactly. The "werid" wasn't weeded out of them, they just found friends and learned to control their behavior in social situations. Which is exactly what also happened to Luz in the Boiling Isles (excluding the trauma lol). But to be fair, it's no wonder why Luz sees the camp as a death sentence.

Zira might be THE MOST evil Disney villain ever. Worse than Scar. Worse than Frollo. She neglects her eldest Nuka to the point where HE DIES TRYING TO GAIN HER APPROVAL, she raises Kovu for the sole purpose of killing her enemy and blames him for his own brothers death, she treats her daughter Vitani more like a second in command than a daughter and as you said threatans to kill her when she's like "actually I don't want to lose my last remaining sibling"... This movie realistically should not have had a happy ending these kids are scarred for life literally and phycologically
The fact that abuela was a Hispanic mother in the early 20th century and actually apologized and took accountability for her actions and everything, making her kids and grandkids feel like sh*t, that’s something that deserves forgiveness. I’ve seen so many Hispanic people online saying that was the most unrealistic thing in the movie.
Ah, I do like seeing comments like these (I'm in a generational trauma family, but I'm not a poc), I hated how easily Abuela was let off the hook, it felt like the trauma she caused was just instantly forgiven, but I think that's because the whole movie suffered from having a mere pg rating and a watered down premise (thanks Disney). As the resident pokemon nerd Ash has cannonically for a long time been able to sense souls, auras, and interact with them. thats why he could hug the kid
People keep talking about how Ursa should’ve cared more for Azula, but let’s look at the facts 1: her hallucination proves that she knows Ursa loves her. She’s just not willing to accept that. 2: flashbacks of her are mostly from Zuko’s perspective. Of course we’re going to see more caring and touching moments between them. 3: what would you do in her situation? It’s already a hard enough job to be a parent and she was dealt an AWFUL hand with Azula. Nurture is very important but it’s evident that sadism and being calculating and a bit psychotic was already a part of her nature/personality early on. Also, growing up with another parent who actively encourages those traits makes her job even harder. We talk about bad parenting and parents, but a child like Azula in that sort of environment was never going to have a good outcome.
I'd agree but after the comic about Azula in the Spirit Temple, at the very least we have to consider Azula's insecurities had to be valid to a degree based on how she behaves, and it isnt just her father's influence. It could just be an interpretation on my part but the "you are your father's daughter" with an awkward smile beforehand in response to her discovering she is a firebender is a loaded comment, even if it meant she was afraid of the potential Ozai would use as a result. I think if we were to believe that memory was genuine (since the comic kinda mixes real memories with ideal images in Azula's mind) it meant she could sense the seeds being planted in that moment but wasn't (able?) to interfere. The only reason she even has a chance to do so with Zuko is because he was outcasted the moment he was born whereas Azula was nurtured by her father the moment she showed prodigal power. I agree with the ranking of the situation sucked and she was put in a terrible circumstance to be able to properly parent her children, since in a better environment she was a great mom to Kiyi. I still can't get over her being quick to give up saving her other two kids though even if the memories were painful and she was too traumatized to confront Ozai at any point until he was literally jailed. It makes sense why and I don't think she is a terrible person for it, but perhaps not a great *mom*. Knowing that Zuko is already abused and leaving him there without an effort to rebel from the outside doesn't sit right with a mother that says she's overly protective of her children that she'd be willing to kill (and she did...just no resistance to her husband). Tbf though I generally dislike the characterization and direction Ursa took in the comics. She was originally written as a FN noble married to Ozai and family life disintegrated as a result of Ozai's pride, greed, and narcissism. Sometimes I kinda wish she was killed instead of banished, I don't think her story was really necessary to either of her kids' plots, and I lowkey wish Zuko was a little more conflicted with her actions and wasn't quick to "understand."

As a cartoon mom fan this video was made for me. All great takes 🙏🏾 But ALSO I am here in defense of Delia Ketchum who I feel like most people don’t know a lot about. I could talk about her FOREVER (I apologize for the essay I’m about to write). On the surface she can come off as an absent mother but there’s so much lore about her that we unfortunately don’t get in the anime and have to dig for, but it explains so much about her behavior and how she parents. (Most of her backstory is in former head writer Takeshi Shudo’s “Pocket Monsters: The Animation” novel). You’re definitely right in that it’s normal for 10 year olds to get a trainer’s license and just leave so it’s not weird for Delia to let Ash just go out into the world. You kinda have to buy into the fact that the Pokémon universe is a dangerous one but in a cartoony way and that 10 year olds are somehow capable of taking care of themselves haha. In the novel, we learn that Delia wanted to be a trainer herself as a kid but her mother didn’t allow her to follow those dreams because she was an only child and was set to take over the family restaurant. She does as she’s told for the sake of her family but still longs for adventure. To me, this explains why she encourages Ash to follow his dreams. She doesn’t want to hold him back like her own mother did. It was a massive act of selflessness on her part but to get why, we need to go DEEPER. When she was younger, her father left on a journey and never came back. Then when she was 18/19, she married Ash’s father who, right after Ash was born, left on a journey and never came back. Shortly after that, her mother passed away. As a teenager, she was left with only her restaurant and newborn Ash. The novel brings up her lingering fear of being abandoned and left for a dream. When Ash leaves, she acknowledges that, like his father, he might never come back. But she knows that becoming a trainer means everything to him so she lets him go. There’s a lovely passage in the novel where Ash gets to the next town and calls her. Delia has a moment of happiness and reflection. She remembers how her father and her husband never contacted her after leaving. After Ash hangs up, she then whispers to herself “All I wanted… was to be contacted.” We also see her not make a big deal out of Ash leaving on each next journey because after her husband left, she promised to never have a teary goodbye ever again. She also KNOWS that Ash has a big heart and if she showed any sign of sadness when he leaves, he’d drop everything to be with her (again going back to how she doesn’t wanna hold him back). In those episodes where he goes off at the end of each season, we see her cheering him on and ushering him out of the house but there’s always a light pause where, with the context of her backstory, you can tell she’s sad. She’s scared. She’s afraid he won’t come back. But she cheers him on anyways and will ALWAYS be there with a clean house, hot meal and made bed for him to come back to if he so chooses. It’s a nice parallel to the Pokemon games where the mom NPC never leaves home and is always there to heal you up when you choose go back to your character’s house! I feel like most players never go back home and opt to just go to a Pokémon center and play the game (but I definitely try to go back to the character’s house and see the mom character whenever I remember hehe) It’s also in the later seasons, but Delia goes and visits Ash when she can afford to take a break from work! She’s gone and watched his school plays and presentations and checks up on him when she can. SO in conclusion, good mom. Love this mom. I care her

How is Della Duck not on here? She was stranded on the moon for 10 years and had to fight moon monsters and even sang happy birthday to her son's that she couldn't see. And when she came back to earth, she tried to let Huey, Dewey, and Louie the best day of their lives. When the alien invasion happened, she tried to keep the kids safe on a far away island, yeah she left the others to fight but she thought she was doing the right thing. Even when she was fighting Lunarises ship, she was still looking out for the kids.
Plus she wasn’t hiding on that island for herself. She was only doing it to keep the kids safe. I’ve seen some people say they hate Della because “she left her family and took the rocket”. Yeah, but she didn’t know she’d get stranded, and as soon as she was she spent every waking second for 10 years trying to get home, not to save herself, but to meet her sons. “But she was reckless even though she had 3 eggs” 1. Oh boo hoo, people can’t make mistakes or have lapses in judgement? and 2. They’re a family of adventurers, I would be more surprised if they weren’t reckless at times
True, but we also have things like Louie's punishment at the end and after 'Timephoon!', while he did need to learn a bigger lesson after what he did, Della was NOT the right person to do it, because what she did to 'teach' that lesson was borderline abusive AT BEST: - She decided to take the whole family to the ONE adventure Louie might've enjoyed, leaving him behind in the mansion with only a ghost and a robot (that has already malfunctioned in previous episodes and even Della acknowledges it but still lefts it) to look after him - The only device he had to communicate with was hacked to show videos of Della giving 'moral lessons' instead of doing it herself like a responsible parent should and then the rest can't communicate with Louie either after a while bc he "hasn't earned it". - The ""Look, your plans, your schemes, they only lead to bad things for your family. If you wanna be a part of this family, you've gotta stop."" video, where the one who left the family first basically threatens his place in the family without a second thought, Della has known this kid for less than a month! - The whole sequence of Louie trying to leave the mansion that ends up with him just, being locked up in his room like a criminal, is played more for laughs but damm, there was even a timer for those things to let him out to do his basic necessities or the ghost was supposed to ie him food till the rest returned to free him?? And the whole thing is kinda never acknowledged again... like, she does love her sons and she and Louie have nice moments outside this episode, but let's be honest, 'Gloomtales' was her lowest point when it comes to being a mom (and the reason most people prefer to call Donald the true parent of the triplets)

She's new to being a mother still and just saw her family, the people She's worked so hard to get back to, dissappear in front of her because Louie wanted to get rich quickly. She probably saw this as him doing something reckless and was scared because it reminded her of herself and the biggest mistake she's ever made, which was recklessly stealing the Spear of Selene. Girlie was trying her best, and it's not like she knew something bad was gonna happen to him while leaving him there, and they could've went back on that adventure afterwards when she decided he earned it.

One thing about Camila and the reality check camp she tried to send Luz to - spoiler alert, Vee went to that camp instead of Luz. Granted, Vee's perspective is wholly different from Luz's, but she did make some nerdy friends that I think Luz would love. It seems like the only thing that changed for those kids was that they found friends, they didn't abandon their geeky interests. So I don't think that camp was such a horrible idea at all, though it was totally framed like one at the start of the show. Conclusion, Camila is a wonderful mom and she deserves the spot next to Garnet like noone else.
Regarding Grandma SquarePants I think in an issue of the SpongeBob comic book SpongeBob takes Squidward to see his grandma and Squidward genuinely has a blast and desperately wants to see her more often which both says a lot about how great grandma SquarePants is and also how it weirdly fits Athena’s SpongeBob/Squidward’s fanfic

The take on Ursa is such a good one. People often forget that childhood neglect and sometimes even abuse can be caused by someone who is hurting just as much, and the only reason they make "poor" choices with their kids is because of that unaddressed stressor/mental illness. Once said thing is addressed, it's possible for the parent to grow and change. My mother and I went through something similar, where she was so tortured by her mental state that she didn't have room to take care of me, but once she got the help and meds she needed, she took ownership of what she did and became the mother I needed. Yeah it might have been a little late, but I'm happy to have a relationship with my mother now. She tries really hard, and she's showing true progress, that's what matters.
There’s a Spongebob comic (idk if it’s from Nick Magazine or the actual comic books) where Squidward actually meets Spongebob’s grandma and they get along really well because they share the same taste in music and art. Hey I mean if you put Luz's mom at S tier, than you got to add Ann's mom too from Amphibia. Cause she's a good mom to both Ann and the planters and the fact she was ready to fight the FBI, killer robot and secret agents for both her daughter and her adopted kids as well as accept that her daughter has crazy powers and have to save a completely different dimension at 16 years old tells you something.
In defense of Delia Ketchum, she does play the role of absent pokemon mother like every mom in the franchise, but a couple of episodes do paint her in a different light. The episode "Betrayed, Bothered and Beleaguered"(PJ030) dives a little into her relationship with Pikachu and the episode "Alolan Open House!"(SM024) shows her visiting Ash in the Alola region (The Sun and Moon series in general is an amazing example of family dynamics in the pokemon world)

I would pretty strongly argue that Azula needed love and protection too. Her father was a genocidal maniac who shaped her into his image for his own gain. She grew up completely without genuine parental love. I mean, do you remember that scene where she says her own mother thought she was a monster? She was only fourteen in that scene. She was only ten when Ursa left. I don't really blame Ursa for being a terrible parent given the circumstances, but that doesn't really change that she was one, and I don't think it's fair to discount how she essentially turned her back on her own daughter in a conversation about motherhood.
And it is not just the memory loss but she couldn't return because of a deal she made with Ozai to help him unalive Azulon, the Fire lord at the time, in order to save Zukos life

RE: Ash's ghost powers (A Poke-ani lore segment): Ash gained the Ability to read the Aura of both people and pokemon in the movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. It's explicitly stated in the anime that ghost-type pokemon and human ghosts still possess their Aura when they pass on. Ash was using his Aura abilities to help the dead kid. They don't bring up Ash's Aura Abilities extremely often but they do come back in every now and again after this movie (Which took place during the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald era of the show)

I think one of the worst moms has to be Beatrice Horseman. The way she belittles her son, how she tell him constantly how he "ruined her", putting down his work ("well it's not Ibsen"), and just overall is a miserable hag is just unbelievable. And how she didn't let Henrietta hold Hollyhock right after she was born to not get "attached" to her, while understable when we take into account Beatrice's past, is still extremely cruel.
I tottally agree, but it would be kind of redundant to put her in this tier list, because Beatrice was written to be the worst kind of mother ever. (Going on a tangent, I know we never see her physically abusing her son, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did do it multiple times. So yeah, she is still the example of worst mom ever in my book) If there's someone out there who thinks she's a decent mother, then that person has a skewered perception of the world and needs therapy QUICKLY.
Honestly, I think the encanto family had a feeling Bruno was just hiding out somewhere near by and watching over them. They were way too willing to accept that he was just chilling in the walls the whole time, they had to have somewhat expected that.

I think a good thing to remember for Camilla Noceda, is that she isn’t just a single mom; she’s a widow with a daughter who was old enough to experience grief, from her sick father’s passing. Said-father leaving behind a book series, of-which Luz gets OBSESSED over. I know the joke of the book series being not very well written in-reality with cliche characters and misspellings, is a tongue-in-cheek joke about mediocre series like Harry Potter or warrior cats often being the obsessing of ADHD-riddled kids. However, I kinda see it as Luz getting attached to the last remnant of her father, with Camilla recognizing this attachment. Not only does Luz get inspired by this series to make “creative” projects in human school and to act out in dramatic, but disruptive ways - she also is borderline reliant on the series. She was a child with no friends, but with an extremely close relationship, with her parents. One of those parents was taken away. Luz was threatened with expulsion, sure - but I genuinely believe that she wanted Luz to develop a healthier coping mechanism for dealing with her father, no longer being there. Granted, she went about it in a wrong way, but the principal didn’t even give her a choice. She was a stressed, widowed mother, who experienced childhood isolation, with a troubled child, who was apparently repeating that cycle - with the added trauma that her dad fucking died and know she has developed an arguably unhealthy attachment to the book series he left her, in death. Shit, I might make some bad decisions too, if that was the cards I was dealt.

The reason why ash could touch the ghost is because in one episode of the OG series, he and Pikachu straight up die and become ghosts. Since I'm pretty sure this is his first death, we can assume every time he revives after is because he's a ghost normal type now, which is pretty OP. He can therefore, touch ghosts.
They "Don't talk about Bruno" because him leaving broke Abeula's heart (again) and probably led to massive arguments anytime it was brought up. I feel like it's a pretty obvious family dynamic for that sort of situation. They didn't need to have a big discussion about it, the subtext was obvious.

Encanto is one of my comfort movies but like. It needed to be longer or maybe be a series. Also to put that hypothetical with Luz’s mom. We see what would’ve happened with vee. Sure the camp itself was boring but she was out with other nerds with similar interests. And it’s not like they lost their weirdness when they came out of the camp. I think the camp was mostly about teaching kids what to do in society but letting them keep their weirdness if they wanted. And that seems like a pretty good option for a kid who SET FIREWORKS OFF AT SCHOOL.

Your SpongeBob fanfiction is AMAZING, take it from another genuine fanfic writer (fun fact: I was actually writing for my own primary fanfic series while watching this as bg noise for the first time, it's about Ed Edd n' Eddy though not SpongeBob) I think Grandma's Kisses is actually a better episode with that interpretation in mind, it's more in-character for Squidward to make fun of him out of projection of trauma rather than just to spite him for the sake of it, shipping context or not

People keep talking about how Ursa should’ve cared more for Azula, but let’s look at the facts
1: her hallucination proves that she knows Ursa loves her. She’s just not willing to accept that.
2: flashbacks of her are mostly from Zuko’s perspective. Of course we’re going to see more caring and touching moments between them.
3: what would you do in her situation? It’s already a hard enough job to be a parent and she was dealt an AWFUL hand with Azula. Nurture is very important but it’s evident that sadism and being calculating and a bit psychotic was already a part of her nature/personality early on. Also, growing up with another parent who actively encourages those traits makes her job even harder. We talk about bad parenting and parents, but a child like Azula in that sort of environment was never going to have a good outcome.
I'd agree but after the comic about Azula in the Spirit Temple, at the very least we have to consider Azula's insecurities had to be valid to a degree based on how she behaves, and it isnt just her father's influence. It could just be an interpretation on my part but the "you are your father's daughter" with an awkward smile beforehand in response to her discovering she is a firebender is a loaded comment, even if it meant she was afraid of the potential Ozai would use as a result. I think if we were to believe that memory was genuine (since the comic kinda mixes real memories with ideal images in Azula's mind) it meant she could sense the seeds being planted in that moment but wasn't (able?) to interfere. The only reason she even has a chance to do so with Zuko is because he was outcasted the moment he was born whereas Azula was nurtured by her father the moment she showed prodigal power.
I agree with the ranking of the situation sucked and she was put in a terrible circumstance to be able to properly parent her children, since in a better environment she was a great mom to Kiyi. I still can't get over her being quick to give up saving her other two kids though even if the memories were painful and she was too traumatized to confront Ozai at any point until he was literally jailed. It makes sense why and I don't think she is a terrible person for it, but perhaps not a great *mom*. Knowing that Zuko is already abused and leaving him there without an effort to rebel from the outside doesn't sit right with a mother that says she's overly protective of her children that she'd be willing to kill (and she did...just no resistance to her husband).
Tbf though I generally dislike the characterization and direction Ursa took in the comics. She was originally written as a FN noble married to Ozai and family life disintegrated as a result of Ozai's pride, greed, and narcissism. Sometimes I kinda wish she was killed instead of banished, I don't think her story was really necessary to either of her kids' plots, and I lowkey wish Zuko was a little more conflicted with her actions and wasn't quick to "understand."

But ALSO I am here in defense of Delia Ketchum who I feel like most people don’t know a lot about. I could talk about her FOREVER (I apologize for the essay I’m about to write). On the surface she can come off as an absent mother but there’s so much lore about her that we unfortunately don’t get in the anime and have to dig for, but it explains so much about her behavior and how she parents. (Most of her backstory is in former head writer Takeshi Shudo’s “Pocket Monsters: The Animation” novel).
You’re definitely right in that it’s normal for 10 year olds to get a trainer’s license and just leave so it’s not weird for Delia to let Ash just go out into the world. You kinda have to buy into the fact that the Pokémon universe is a dangerous one but in a cartoony way and that 10 year olds are somehow capable of taking care of themselves haha.
In the novel, we learn that Delia wanted to be a trainer herself as a kid but her mother didn’t allow her to follow those dreams because she was an only child and was set to take over the family restaurant. She does as she’s told for the sake of her family but still longs for adventure. To me, this explains why she encourages Ash to follow his dreams. She doesn’t want to hold him back like her own mother did.
It was a massive act of selflessness on her part but to get why, we need to go DEEPER. When she was younger, her father left on a journey and never came back. Then when she was 18/19, she married Ash’s father who, right after Ash was born, left on a journey and never came back. Shortly after that, her mother passed away. As a teenager, she was left with only her restaurant and newborn Ash. The novel brings up her lingering fear of being abandoned and left for a dream. When Ash leaves, she acknowledges that, like his father, he might never come back. But she knows that becoming a trainer means everything to him so she lets him go. There’s a lovely passage in the novel where Ash gets to the next town and calls her. Delia has a moment of happiness and reflection. She remembers how her father and her husband never contacted her after leaving. After Ash hangs up, she then whispers to herself “All I wanted… was to be contacted.”
We also see her not make a big deal out of Ash leaving on each next journey because after her husband left, she promised to never have a teary goodbye ever again. She also KNOWS that Ash has a big heart and if she showed any sign of sadness when he leaves, he’d drop everything to be with her (again going back to how she doesn’t wanna hold him back). In those episodes where he goes off at the end of each season, we see her cheering him on and ushering him out of the house but there’s always a light pause where, with the context of her backstory, you can tell she’s sad. She’s scared. She’s afraid he won’t come back. But she cheers him on anyways and will ALWAYS be there with a clean house, hot meal and made bed for him to come back to if he so chooses. It’s a nice parallel to the Pokemon games where the mom NPC never leaves home and is always there to heal you up when you choose go back to your character’s house! I feel like most players never go back home and opt to just go to a Pokémon center and play the game (but I definitely try to go back to the character’s house and see the mom character whenever I remember hehe)
It’s also in the later seasons, but Delia goes and visits Ash when she can afford to take a break from work! She’s gone and watched his school plays and presentations and checks up on him when she can. SO in conclusion, good mom. Love this mom. I care her

How is Della Duck not on here? She was stranded on the moon for 10 years and had to fight moon monsters and even sang happy birthday to her son's that she couldn't see. And when she came back to earth, she tried to let Huey, Dewey, and Louie the best day of their lives. When the alien invasion happened, she tried to keep the kids safe on a far away island, yeah she left the others to fight but she thought she was doing the right thing. Even when she was fighting Lunarises ship, she was still looking out for the kids.
Plus she wasn’t hiding on that island for herself. She was only doing it to keep the kids safe. I’ve seen some people say they hate Della because “she left her family and took the rocket”. Yeah, but she didn’t know she’d get stranded, and as soon as she was she spent every waking second for 10 years trying to get home, not to save herself, but to meet her sons. “But she was reckless even though she had 3 eggs” 1. Oh boo hoo, people can’t make mistakes or have lapses in judgement? and 2. They’re a family of adventurers, I would be more surprised if they weren’t reckless at times

True, but we also have things like Louie's punishment at the end and after 'Timephoon!', while he did need to learn a bigger lesson after what he did, Della was NOT the right person to do it, because what she did to 'teach' that lesson was borderline abusive AT BEST:
- She decided to take the whole family to the ONE adventure Louie might've enjoyed, leaving him behind in the mansion with only a ghost and a robot (that has already malfunctioned in previous episodes and even Della acknowledges it but still lefts it) to look after him
- The only device he had to communicate with was hacked to show videos of Della giving 'moral lessons' instead of doing it herself like a responsible parent should and then the rest can't communicate with Louie either after a while bc he "hasn't earned it".
- The ""Look, your plans, your schemes, they only lead to bad things for your family. If you wanna be a part of this family, you've gotta stop."" video, where the one who left the family first basically threatens his place in the family without a second thought, Della has known this kid for less than a month!
- The whole sequence of Louie trying to leave the mansion that ends up with him just, being locked up in his room like a criminal, is played more for laughs but damm, there was even a timer for those things to let him out to do his basic necessities or the ghost was supposed to ie him food till the rest returned to free him??
And the whole thing is kinda never acknowledged again... like, she does love her sons and she and Louie have nice moments outside this episode, but let's be honest, 'Gloomtales' was her lowest point when it comes to being a mom (and the reason most people prefer to call Donald the true parent of the triplets)

She's new to being a mother still and just saw her family, the people She's worked so hard to get back to, dissappear in front of her because Louie wanted to get rich quickly. She probably saw this as him doing something reckless and was scared because it reminded her of herself and the biggest mistake she's ever made, which was recklessly stealing the Spear of Selene.
Girlie was trying her best, and it's not like she knew something bad was gonna happen to him while leaving him there, and they could've went back on that adventure afterwards when she decided he earned it.

And definitely didn't use that experience to get to know him better
One thing about Camila and the reality check camp she tried to send Luz to - spoiler alert, Vee went to that camp instead of Luz. Granted, Vee's perspective is wholly different from Luz's, but she did make some nerdy friends that I think Luz would love. It seems like the only thing that changed for those kids was that they found friends, they didn't abandon their geeky interests. So I don't think that camp was such a horrible idea at all, though it was totally framed like one at the start of the show. Conclusion, Camila is a wonderful mom and she deserves the spot next to Garnet like noone else.

The take on Ursa is such a good one. People often forget that childhood neglect and sometimes even abuse can be caused by someone who is hurting just as much, and the only reason they make "poor" choices with their kids is because of that unaddressed stressor/mental illness. Once said thing is addressed, it's possible for the parent to grow and change. My mother and I went through something similar, where she was so tortured by her mental state that she didn't have room to take care of me, but once she got the help and meds she needed, she took ownership of what she did and became the mother I needed. Yeah it might have been a little late, but I'm happy to have a relationship with my mother now. She tries really hard, and she's showing true progress, that's what matters.

In defense of Delia Ketchum, she does play the role of absent pokemon mother like every mom in the franchise, but a couple of episodes do paint her in a different light.
The episode "Betrayed, Bothered and Beleaguered"(PJ030) dives a little into her relationship with Pikachu and the episode "Alolan Open House!"(SM024) shows her visiting Ash in the Alola region (The Sun and Moon series in general is an amazing example of family dynamics in the pokemon world)

I would pretty strongly argue that Azula needed love and protection too. Her father was a genocidal maniac who shaped her into his image for his own gain. She grew up completely without genuine parental love. I mean, do you remember that scene where she says her own mother thought she was a monster? She was only fourteen in that scene. She was only ten when Ursa left. I don't really blame Ursa for being a terrible parent given the circumstances, but that doesn't really change that she was one, and I don't think it's fair to discount how she essentially turned her back on her own daughter in a conversation about motherhood.

No one can really die in the Pokemon world as long as them getting hurt is for a visual gag. Team Rocket are sent falling from the sky in every episode and they're always perfectly fine.

1. I do think spongebob's grandma was well meaning, but the way she sorta manipulated spongebob back into being childlike instead of just directly communicating with him rubbed me the wrong way.
2. You relating to Linda Belcher makes so much sense and I mean that in the best way.
3. I love your unabashed love for Mars Needs Moms and I genuinely feel like more people should have that one thing they love that everyone hates
4. Though Zira is SUCH a fun villain, the way she sang about her envisioning her young son kovu with a "lust" for being bad always gave me the ick.
Hana from wolf children raised her half feral children by herself, moved them somewhere they could he safe, fixed an entire house herself, and let them choose which path they wanted to take dispite her own grief. She is the #bestmom

RE: Ash's ghost powers (A Poke-ani lore segment):
Ash gained the Ability to read the Aura of both people and pokemon in the movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. It's explicitly stated in the anime that ghost-type pokemon and human ghosts still possess their Aura when they pass on. Ash was using his Aura abilities to help the dead kid.
They don't bring up Ash's Aura Abilities extremely often but they do come back in every now and again after this movie (Which took place during the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald era of the show)

I think one of the worst moms has to be Beatrice Horseman. The way she belittles her son, how she tell him constantly how he "ruined her", putting down his work ("well it's not Ibsen"), and just overall is a miserable hag is just unbelievable. And how she didn't let Henrietta hold Hollyhock right after she was born to not get "attached" to her, while understable when we take into account Beatrice's past, is still extremely cruel.

I tottally agree, but it would be kind of redundant to put her in this tier list, because Beatrice was written to be the worst kind of mother ever.
(Going on a tangent, I know we never see her physically abusing her son, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did do it multiple times. So yeah, she is still the example of worst mom ever in my book)

I think a good thing to remember for Camilla Noceda, is that she isn’t just a single mom; she’s a widow with a daughter who was old enough to experience grief, from her sick father’s passing. Said-father leaving behind a book series, of-which Luz gets OBSESSED over.
I know the joke of the book series being not very well written in-reality with cliche characters and misspellings, is a tongue-in-cheek joke about mediocre series like Harry Potter or warrior cats often being the obsessing of ADHD-riddled kids.
However, I kinda see it as Luz getting attached to the last remnant of her father, with Camilla recognizing this attachment. Not only does Luz get inspired by this series to make “creative” projects in human school and to act out in dramatic, but disruptive ways - she also is borderline reliant on the series. She was a child with no friends, but with an extremely close relationship, with her parents. One of those parents was taken away.
Luz was threatened with expulsion, sure - but I genuinely believe that she wanted Luz to develop a healthier coping mechanism for dealing with her father, no longer being there. Granted, she went about it in a wrong way, but the principal didn’t even give her a choice. She was a stressed, widowed mother, who experienced childhood isolation, with a troubled child, who was apparently repeating that cycle - with the added trauma that her dad fucking died and know she has developed an arguably unhealthy attachment to the book series he left her, in death. Shit, I might make some bad decisions too, if that was the cards I was dealt.

The reason why ash could touch the ghost is because in one episode of the OG series, he and Pikachu straight up die and become ghosts. Since I'm pretty sure this is his first death, we can assume every time he revives after is because he's a ghost normal type now, which is pretty OP. He can therefore, touch ghosts.
They "Don't talk about Bruno" because him leaving broke Abeula's heart (again) and probably led to massive arguments anytime it was brought up. I feel like it's a pretty obvious family dynamic for that sort of situation. They didn't need to have a big discussion about it, the subtext was obvious.
