Yeah, I agree. Athena has become too attached to Jack Skellington. On the one hand, I don't blame her, he is a charming character. But on the other... Santa had all the right to be pissed at him. And even then, it only takes less than a day to forgive him, since right after they return to Halloween Town, Santa comes by in his sleigh and makes snow fall on the town as a thank you. When that first happened I was like "Oh! Really? He's forgiven him that quickly? Ok..."
I mean that's all true but part of Santa's character is being good natured, loving and forgiving. Jack was clearly remorseful and apologetic about what he did so he should have cut him some slack and recognize the good intentions

When we were younger, we'd watch the stop motion Rudolph, and my mom would always shake her head, and say, "Santa wouldnt do that." She is very vocal when there is a subpar Santa. It was mostly this one and the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" rankin bass one. (That one is honestly worse). She also thought Santa wouldn't smoke for health reasons.
I actually liked the Twas the Night Before Christmas and their take on Santa. When I first saw it I found him a bit weird looking, but honestly I like how they stay accurate to the poem and the design works with the look of the special.

Santa Paws was quite a movie to me when I was younger. You know, seeing those girls being abused by that orphanage owner while simultaneously focusing on other characters is quite an experience, at least for me.

Rise of the guardians is based off a young adult book series. It’s a very good series. Has 4 books and gives a backstory to each character. The movie, though different from the book and missed out some of my favourite bits, it did so well at capturing the magic and wonder of the books. Though North is the book…. 🥰 I highly recommend the series. It’s a fun and engaging story.
One thing I always liked about Santa from "Olive the Other Reindeer" (totally underrated special by the way) is that after all the presents have been delivered, he saves some presents for his staff and crew. That's really thoughtful, and you don't see many Santa's acknowledge the elves like that! It also leads to one of the elves dropping what I think is the funniest line in the special: "Uh, boss, from an insurance point of view, the jump ropes, probably not a wise idea."
There's the ongoing theory that all of Rankin/Bass's Christmas movies take place in the same continuity. And if that's the case, I really want to know how the young cheerful Santa from "Coming to Town" became the grumpy old 8!tch from "Rudolph".
that's why i see it more as a multiverse than a "cinematic universe" even rudolph becomes a bit of an asshole himself in the shiny new year movie. i don't think rudolph from the 1964 movie is the same rudolph as the 70s sequels, same with santa. no way asshole bully santa from rudolph is the same as the sweet kind generous kris kringle.
Two weeks late, but I actually found a good fanfic explaining how Santa became this way. It's called "It's a Difficult Responsibility" on ao3. "The Revenge of the Winter Warlock" is also a really good and heartbreaking interpretation.
I haven't got to the point yet but a fun fact about the SCiCtT Kris Kringle and the YWaSC Santa: in Rankin/Bass canon they are the same guy. Mickey Rooney voices both and because of that it connects the two movies. It also connects them with using the same Santa puppets (and Mickey Rooney voicing again) and in not mentioned film Rudolph and Frosty Christmas in July which combines Rudolph Shiny New Year, Frosty Winter Wonderland (not the first frosty, Paul Frees voiced that santa), and the two others mentioned along with some non christmas R/B films The first Rudolph isn't considered canon because that north pole is never shown or are the characters brought back

On Oogie Boogie, that actually made an official comic that him and Jack used to be good friends, but he got corrupted by the old Pumpkin King before Jack. He pretty much got fed the bugs that twisted him bad.

YES. I watched every single episode and movie at least 2-3 times and I also think they did help Scott improve in my opinion. There’s so much more to unpack in the rest of the series than just the first movie, which is pretty cool.

Im a bit disappointed The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus (2000) wasnt on this list. It aired every year on cartoon network for awhile and was my favorite Christmas movie. This Santa is found by fantasy wood elves, his mom is a literal wild cougar, and he adopts a kitten that can live forever.

If you’re going over Dora the Explorer, I have a theory that may not fully be just a theory. Dora has multiple different timelines(or universes?). There’s at least one branch of that I can bring up, the Christmas special where Swiper swipes Christmas, because if he keeps Swiping or not creates two different outcomes. •Swiper swiping Christmas- Dora and the gang get time traveled to the future where Swiper never stops swiping Christmas and Dora still lives in the forest, she is older and taller than the 7-8 year old Dora that we follow •Swiper fixes Christmas- After seeing the future of misery that comes with swiping Christmas, Swiper fixes his actions and Christmas is back on and everything is happy, but assuming the Dora and Friends into the city series is a direct cannon aftermath to the series and not another separate timeline from the main one, Dora’s family moves to the city and when we see an older Dora she’s away from the friends that she’s known since they were all toddlers. This is assuming that Swiper getting on the nice list does not just rewrite the future that Dora and the gang visited, but instead creates a new timeline. Some reboots could be considered possible alternative timelines as well if we want to address them. Anyways I hope you have a great day, and thank you if you read this

A couple of my favorite Santas that didn't make the list were the one from "Ernest Saves Christmas" (played by the same actor who voiced the Sultan in Disney's Aladdin), who was portrayed as a sweet, kindly old man, the cranky department store Santa from "A Christmas Story" and the one from "Santa Claus: The Movie".

In my opinion, the best Santa is the one from the 1990s miracle on 34th street. He’s so sweet and kind to everyone. He then basically gets accused of being a pedophile by the person he replaced, attacks him, the whole things a setup, and it ends in a court case on whether Santa Claus is real. The entire time he’s so innocent, and all he wants to do is bring joy, he doesn’t want to shill anything, he was only getting paid cus he had to, and he went against the company to tell parents where to get cheaper deals on presents so the kids would be happy. It ended up working in his favour, because then they used it as a marketing campaign and more people went to the store…but it’s clear he never cared about that. He never cared about the corporate side of Christmas, and just wanted to spread joy. Even in court he had a smile on his face, as he spoke to kids who believed he was Santa. I mean cmon, there was the sign language scene with the little girl who was deaf and just wanted to see Santa, not expecting him to know how to communicate…then they signed Jingle Bells together.

I can’t decide if you’d love or dislike the Santa from Rankin Bass’ adaptation of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. On the one hand he is a dilf with two mothers and learned his laugh from listening to the music of the frozen valley where he lives--on the other hand he’s probably the least magic santa. All his powers and feats are from his connections and networking with to a series of pagan deities. but the reason they help him and bestow these powers is because they admire him so much. it’s like his love and caring made him worthy of their blessings. Like this Santa is literally beloved by the world itself.

Rise of the guardians is based of a book series where the mythological figures all have in-depth backstory. They save the world. It gets epic and weird. I think the easter bunny and sandman are aliens(so is the man in the moon(and the moon is a spaceship???)). Tooth fairy has a tragic backstory. It's great material for a lore video.

Athena, I am grabbing you and shaking you right now. You NEED to watch Snow Buddies. The Air Bud cinematic universe is CRAZY and this movie is nuts in the weirdest way. Shasta’s age implies SO much about a major plot point in the movie and accentuates how big of an asshole one character is. Puppies just running around Willy Nilly, the one Russian character, PUPPIES DROPPED FROM A PLANE IN AN ICE BOX. The real villain of the movie is an old guy who can’t use a computer, and somehow this one police officer guy can contact every single other police officer JUST WITH PUPPY EMERGENCIES. I got this movie on dvd for Christmas in 2008 and rewatching it while feverish has made me look at the Buddies universe in a way I’ve never seen it before. Also in one of the movies they go to space. (PS. DO NOT LOOK UP THIS MOVIE’S PRODUCTION HISTORY)

When we were younger, we'd watch the stop motion Rudolph, and my mom would always shake her head, and say, "Santa wouldnt do that." She is very vocal when there is a subpar Santa. It was mostly this one and the "Twas the Night Before Christmas" rankin bass one. (That one is honestly worse). She also thought Santa wouldn't smoke for health reasons.

I actually liked the Twas the Night Before Christmas and their take on Santa. When I first saw it I found him a bit weird looking, but honestly I like how they stay accurate to the poem and the design works with the look of the special.

Santa Paws was quite a movie to me when I was younger. You know, seeing those girls being abused by that orphanage owner while simultaneously focusing on other characters is quite an experience, at least for me.
I've never noticed by how fabulous Mrs. Claus was! Also, I watched Klaus on repeat for about 2 weeks after seeing it for the first time. It's actually amazing!
Rise of the guardians is based off a young adult book series. It’s a very good series. Has 4 books and gives a backstory to each character. The movie, though different from the book and missed out some of my favourite bits, it did so well at capturing the magic and wonder of the books. Though North is the book…. 🥰
I highly recommend the series. It’s a fun and engaging story.
One thing I always liked about Santa from "Olive the Other Reindeer" (totally underrated special by the way) is that after all the presents have been delivered, he saves some presents for his staff and crew. That's really thoughtful, and you don't see many Santa's acknowledge the elves like that!
It also leads to one of the elves dropping what I think is the funniest line in the special:
"Uh, boss, from an insurance point of view, the jump ropes, probably not a wise idea."
There's the ongoing theory that all of Rankin/Bass's Christmas movies take place in the same continuity.
And if that's the case, I really want to know how the young cheerful Santa from "Coming to Town" became the grumpy old 8!tch from "Rudolph".
I like to think the Santa from Coming to Town and Year Without are the same Santa because of Mickey Rooney

Two weeks late, but I actually found a good fanfic explaining how Santa became this way. It's called "It's a Difficult Responsibility" on ao3. "The Revenge of the Winter Warlock" is also a really good and heartbreaking interpretation.

I haven't got to the point yet but a fun fact about the SCiCtT Kris Kringle and the YWaSC Santa: in Rankin/Bass canon they are the same guy. Mickey Rooney voices both and because of that it connects the two movies. It also connects them with using the same Santa puppets (and Mickey Rooney voicing again) and in not mentioned film Rudolph and Frosty Christmas in July which combines Rudolph Shiny New Year, Frosty Winter Wonderland (not the first frosty, Paul Frees voiced that santa), and the two others mentioned along with some non christmas R/B films
The first Rudolph isn't considered canon because that north pole is never shown or are the characters brought back

You should definitely watch the sequels and show, because honestly they're pretty great imo. They definitely help to improve Scott a little and the lore is pretty INSANE.
YES. I watched every single episode and movie at least 2-3 times and I also think they did help Scott improve in my opinion. There’s so much more to unpack in the rest of the series than just the first movie, which is pretty cool.

Im a bit disappointed The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus (2000) wasnt on this list. It aired every year on cartoon network for awhile and was my favorite Christmas movie. This Santa is found by fantasy wood elves, his mom is a literal wild cougar, and he adopts a kitten that can live forever.

This movie's genuinely one of my favorite christmas movies because of how it plays with the character of Santa, where it's not just one guy but it's a role that's passed down from father to son. The Mrs.Claus in this movie is also so cute and iconic and I love her. They're all british but I think they'd deserve a pass because it works and the film was made by Aardman (yeah, the Wallace and Gromit guys!).

If you’re going over Dora the Explorer, I have a theory that may not fully be just a theory. Dora has multiple different timelines(or universes?). There’s at least one branch of that I can bring up, the Christmas special where Swiper swipes Christmas, because if he keeps Swiping or not creates two different outcomes.
•Swiper swiping Christmas- Dora and the gang get time traveled to the future where Swiper never stops swiping Christmas and Dora still lives in the forest, she is older and taller than the 7-8 year old Dora that we follow
•Swiper fixes Christmas- After seeing the future of misery that comes with swiping Christmas, Swiper fixes his actions and Christmas is back on and everything is happy, but assuming the Dora and Friends into the city series is a direct cannon aftermath to the series and not another separate timeline from the main one, Dora’s family moves to the city and when we see an older Dora she’s away from the friends that she’s known since they were all toddlers.
This is assuming that Swiper getting on the nice list does not just rewrite the future that Dora and the gang visited, but instead creates a new timeline. Some reboots could be considered possible alternative timelines as well if we want to address them.

A couple of my favorite Santas that didn't make the list were the one from "Ernest Saves Christmas" (played by the same actor who voiced the Sultan in Disney's Aladdin), who was portrayed as a sweet, kindly old man, the cranky department store Santa from "A Christmas Story" and the one from "Santa Claus: The Movie".
I - Santa Paws scared me as a child, in a way. Like the dog almost dying in an incinerator fucked me up for like, weeks, remembering it would almost make me cry it was so bad.

In my opinion, the best Santa is the one from the 1990s miracle on 34th street. He’s so sweet and kind to everyone. He then basically gets accused of being a pedophile by the person he replaced, attacks him, the whole things a setup, and it ends in a court case on whether Santa Claus is real. The entire time he’s so innocent, and all he wants to do is bring joy, he doesn’t want to shill anything, he was only getting paid cus he had to, and he went against the company to tell parents where to get cheaper deals on presents so the kids would be happy. It ended up working in his favour, because then they used it as a marketing campaign and more people went to the store…but it’s clear he never cared about that. He never cared about the corporate side of Christmas, and just wanted to spread joy. Even in court he had a smile on his face, as he spoke to kids who believed he was Santa. I mean cmon, there was the sign language scene with the little girl who was deaf and just wanted to see Santa, not expecting him to know how to communicate…then they signed Jingle Bells together.

I can’t decide if you’d love or dislike the Santa from Rankin Bass’ adaptation of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. On the one hand he is a dilf with two mothers and learned his laugh from listening to the music of the frozen valley where he lives--on the other hand he’s probably the least magic santa. All his powers and feats are from his connections and networking with to a series of pagan deities. but the reason they help him and bestow these powers is because they admire him so much. it’s like his love and caring made him worthy of their blessings. Like this Santa is literally beloved by the world itself.

Rise of the guardians is based of a book series where the mythological figures all have in-depth backstory. They save the world. It gets epic and weird. I think the easter bunny and sandman are aliens(so is the man in the moon(and the moon is a spaceship???)). Tooth fairy has a tragic backstory. It's great material for a lore video.

Athena, I am grabbing you and shaking you right now. You NEED to watch Snow Buddies. The Air Bud cinematic universe is CRAZY and this movie is nuts in the weirdest way. Shasta’s age implies SO much about a major plot point in the movie and accentuates how big of an asshole one character is. Puppies just running around Willy Nilly, the one Russian character, PUPPIES DROPPED FROM A PLANE IN AN ICE BOX. The real villain of the movie is an old guy who can’t use a computer, and somehow this one police officer guy can contact every single other police officer JUST WITH PUPPY EMERGENCIES. I got this movie on dvd for Christmas in 2008 and rewatching it while feverish has made me look at the Buddies universe in a way I’ve never seen it before. Also in one of the movies they go to space. (PS. DO NOT LOOK UP THIS MOVIE’S PRODUCTION HISTORY)
