This week I sit down with Antony Starr for a few drinks and a pour from his birthday bottle, a 1975 IW HARPER.
We talk the insanely perfect show that was Banshee and of course dive deep into season 2 of The Boys and how it has RAILROADED him to a massive and obsessive fandom.
Antony is a great guy and if I have learned to GAUGE anything is surely on the right TRACK to stardom.

The fact this guy is so nice and such a likable person, and he plays such a scary and conflicted character really speaks volumes to his acting ability.

some of the nicest people you meet have the darkest demons they keep below the surface, and can quickly muster them up to make a character real, instead of just believable.

Try looking at his cheekbones, when homelander gets angry but cant show it, you can tell on Anthony that he bites down with his mouth closed so you can tell it on his cheekbones.
Its an awesome little detail he brings to the character.
Starr does some of the best facial acting that I have ever seen. The amount of micro-expressions that he runs through during some of his exchanges is just unreal. He sells instability so well that every time he's on screen it puts you on edge. I actually watched Banshee when it originally aired and became a fan of him really quickly, so I was super excited when I saw him get a lead role in a huge Amazon show. He's been absolutely killing it and I'm happy to see him getting so much praise for his work.
Spot on. Watching his eyes and eyebrows and mouth and jaw when it tenses, where he's looking...you really have to pay attention and you can see so much. Like when it's dawning on him that he's being fucked with or lied to by someone whether Stillwell, Maeve, or Starlight...you can see wheels turning and slipping among emotions. Absolutely amazing. He is sooooo hateable because he's such a good bad guy...terrifying.
Him and Kyle Chandler are great facial actors
Banshee was %30 made up of his facial expressions, he carried that show on his back.
So true Lucas Hood is such a different character from Homelander, but Starr always plays with so many different emotions under the surface. A lesser actor just would of played him as just a cool bad ass, but Antony Starr makes him feel like a real person you can meet.
I ran into him at a bar in Auckland ~15yrs ago when he was acting on Outrageous Fortune... He was a genuinely nice guy. So happy to see him do so well.

What I noticed is that Antony isn't driven by some ambitious dream or vision. He's driven by *appreciation and gratitude.*
He's all about seeing it, creating it, sharing it, receiving it, and experiencing it with others.
That said, he's the perfect person to share a priceless bottle with - he may not know all the intricacies and fancy talk, but he shows genuine gratitude and appreciation, and that's what really matters.

Antony Starr is fantastic as Homelander. One thing I think actors don't get enough credit for is disguising whatever accents they possess in order to play their character's part.

The reason homelander is scary to me, is because of the character similarities to real life narcissistic people, who have his charisma and also this sociopathic ability to control or annihilate without empathy and delusional. His character def got comedy too. And depth, especially when he imagines doing things but doesn’t really follow through-he has some self-awareness. And he looks like a Zach Morris from saved by the bell which is funny. A deranged golden retriever... It’s like a bit of funny, scary, awe, absurdity, attraction, and some self-recognition all in there, cuz we all have some narcissism in us to relate.

Such a well written show, it's incredible the way it's able to deal with the issues in today's society. I heard they filmed Season 2 before George Floyd's death and I'm shocked that they're able to keep so up to date

Antony Starr has such enormous acting chops, Banshee is amazing, but even before Banshee he played twins in a New Zealand drama called Outrageous Fortune which was a great show and he absolutely nailed it
Anthony's Starr's name should be known by everyone- he is such an incredible presence, Homelander is such a fantasticly written character and Anthony acts so incredibly well, shows all the emotions of such a versatile character!
Whether he's playing Homelander or Lucas Hood, Starr just disappears into a role starting from how he carries himself. Such a laid-back charisma when he's himself.
I got Amazon Prime JUST for "The Boys." The concept of satirizing an American staple like the Juatice League, but especially Superman, and the "What if...." scenario is fascinating to me. Superman is nearly 100 years old. The character is an institution. I also love the satire of the industry and of the DCEU. The "Joss Rewrites," during the film inside a show episode in season 2 was so funny. That was a nice dig. I think Anthony Starr is a real genuine guy and I wish him all the best in his career and life.

Banshee is one of the greatest shows of all time, period. Didn’t finish on the best season, but a 10/10 show, like Black Sails.
Absofuckinglutely. And yeah Black Sails is also fantastic. The Boys has a potential to be a proper Game of Thronesque blockbuster.
I really enjoy The Boys...but, Banshee and Lucas Hood (and Chayton def a fave villain) are in my top tier list of shows and characters!

Absolutely excellent as Lucas Hood in *"Banshee",* one of the most underrated shows in recent times.
When Antony talks about Nicholson being a genius, I can't help but chuckle because in my humble opinion Antony has surpassed Nicholson. Banshee and The Boys are both 10/10 series.

Ever since checking out Banshee, which I discovered about two years ago, seeing Antony Starr, I was amazed by this guy. The pilot blew me away, but the most amazing thing about the show was Antony Starr, who was the most intense, mesmerizing, sexiest actor I had seen, since James Woods really. Antony Starr though has for me the most incredible on screen charisma. I felt from then on that if he didn't become a massive star after Banshee, (Banshee is so underrated, so I knew it wouldn't make him a massive star), within the next five years, there was absolutely no justice. I think now, because of this show, The Boys, which I have seen, but is not really my thing, that Antony will now become the superstar he deserves to be. He is without doubt, the best thing in the Boys as far as I'm concerned.
People are saying The Boys is about Homelander and I tend to agree. Tony Starr's portrayal is awesome in many ways. I've watched Banshee's first 5 episodes and Starr steals the show among an excellent cast. He raised the bar on The Boys and it seems that there is not a character he cannot play in such an outstanding way. What a badass actor.
Damn he does the tongue thing in real life. I thought it was a character tick he added to homelander when he's excited for something. I love it.

I liked Homelander the most tbh because he’s so conflicted and deeply hurt inside. That made him sympathetic. I think he’s very cool and I really like how he’s talking down to people and killing them versus him being the little boy that is so deeply hurt he doesn’t know how to cope with it.
He never had someone that really loved him for him or really cared about his feelings, wants and needs. He was forced to act a certain way but he’s so lost inside. I really wish him to find all those things in a great partner. That’s why I was so disgusted with him being with his mother figure that only used him and then being with Stormfront that also only toys with him.
He should play James Bond ....... someone who can turn deadly when he needs to, but also be super cool and charming! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

The Boi You’re missing the point. A terrifying character would be someone like Anton Chigurh, not because he’s a psychopath but because he can’t be bought or reasoned with and has his own warped code that he will live and die by. Homelander is a sociopath and has the powers of a god but is a little boy emotionally and is also easily manipulated because of his fragile, self inflated ego and his constant need for approval. This makes him more ridiculous I think and downright bizarre. Think of some of his comedic exchanges with Stormfront when he’s screaming at her “18-35, 35-55, they all like me!!!!” That shit was hilarious. Or his nervous breakdown in the latest episode, very Bateman-esque.
Balgaar The Bold I don’t think they are meant to be that scary which suits the satyrical nature of both of the works they are a part of. The two are similar in the sense that the suit really does make the man. Bateman is his designer fashion labels and has no real personality; Homelander has been raised not to be a superhero, but to look like a superhero - case in point with the plane when he had no idea what he was doing. They both have weak, insecure personalities with a complete lack of self control. They both go on auto pilot when a situation becomes too much - “you guys are the real heroes!!”

Weird...even when I’m watching the actor in an interview with a different accent, all I see is Homelander, Antony did such a good job at portraying that character that he feels like a real person.
Banshee is my all time favourite show. Gritty, raw, exciting. So good to see him back in a series. Anthony Starr is an amazing actor!

Genuinely one of the best actors I've ever seen. His entire scene when Ashley tells him about the blowback to him killing an innocent is out of this world. Dude deserves all the awards.

6 years ago I was telling all my friends to watch Banshee, I was loving that show... to the point that one of my best friends, took my suggestion, binged season 1 to 3 in a few days and then called me to insult several generations of my family just because season 4 was not out yet and she was loving the show! I am happy to see him make Homelander come alive now in an amazing way!!!
