- I bought an old and fat PlayStation 3 which has problems with HDMI output.
There is only a black screen and it is not showing up on TV. I hope that there is no problem with the RSX video chip and I think that maybe the problem is in the MN864709 ( mn86471a ) IC chip. If your ps3 is not working and there are some problems with HDMI or no video signal error WATCH THIS!
The HDMI controlling IC chip is a part that can fail and stop the HDMI connection from working. This is a chip failure on the motherboard. It can be caused by plugging and unplugging the HDMI port whilst the console is turned on
So let’s check this chip and if it is shorted let’s replace it.

When your console is turned on, press the power button until it beeps for the second Time. Then, it will beep twice. And then let it go. And just wait a few seconds for the ps3 to adjust. If you see the picture on the tv screen, my congratulations.
If you still have the problem:
There can be a few reasons why PlayStation 3 does not have an image, for example, mechanical damage to the HDMI connector, Board faults often include graphics chip (RSX) problems or HDMI video converter (MN8647091) (which I replaced in this video) faults, but other problems may also occur - power problems, firmware corruption, or CPU failure (CELL).
Take the console part, use multimeter to check the HDMI video converter chip, if there is short, on the output of hdmi signal, 100% that chip is broken and needs to be replaced.

Well, i checked the chip like u did but mine seems to be okay. i checked the battery and it needed replacement so i did that.. but when i got it on, still no picture on my screen or tv.... i tried hdmi port and the other one, i believe its used back on ps2 for scart connector... no signal on both so what could it be

Bro. I literally just had this happen on a 60GB system I just bought yesterday. No videos even after resetting the video preferences. It did work at first for an hour but the next day no video signal. Your video does seem like it would be helpful but there is just a lot that I wish you are able to at least explain what you’re doing.. like the process of replacing the chip was absolutely crucial and it’s just a quick few different angles of you doing it in fast motion but without any explanation at all..I wish that you’ll be able to fix that!

Question: If I'm not getting a signal from the HDMi and COMPOSITE cables, could the HDMI IC still be broken? Or would there be a different proiblem? My PS3 turns on fine an eject works too, hdd also seems to be engaged. It was rather dirty and dusty when I got it tho ... the thermal paste was pretty dry, but I seen dryer pastes on PC's in the past than this ps3. Any thoughts?
Well it can be anything =) RSX soldering, this chip or 100 other reasons. Did you try to boot it in safe mode or reset video output settings?
At 3:41 when your testing ohms. Are you touching the right side of the 4 blocks? There is some solder points I put my multimeter on and one on ground not getting any beeps.
In my case, they were all shorted because of the shorted IC chip.

I'm stuck at 576p... when changing resolution in xmb screen goes black and reverts back to 576p... other ps3s work fine on same TV and hdmi except the fat model... tried full system format reset and updated via recovery... even new hdd.. same thing
Hi, what about the games? No graphical issues? I guess you need to try to replace the chip that I replaced. I heard that it also can cause problems with resolution .

I have always used mine with HDMI cable and I have the black screen now. It powers up fine but no video or sound. Can I buy a A/V to RCA cable and use that instead of HDMI chip repair?
Buy component av cable that supports 1080p.
I am in this shoes with my cechc04 version. :/ it have a bga SI chip. So cant do the same process. but thank you for useful info. :)

Hello! Sorry for the late answer, I've been quite busy these days. 1) 1)With this particular chip, I used the temperature from 280 - 310 degrees celsius. For sure, if you have Kapton tape it is better to use it. I don't have this tape and I managed it without using this.
2) My multimeter is a very cheap device that I bought from Taobao.
The model name is DT-9205A
3) I'm so sorry to say that, but you are asking the wrong person=) I only know the basics and in the case of this Playstation, there was a short on the HDMI output, so when I removed the chip I realized that the short was gone and this chip was the reason.
4) Yep, you are right. I use the cheapest dishwasher liquid that I found in the local supermarket.
My ps3 worked fine yesterday. Now its display is flickering btw no display to start up screen. I tried 4-5 different hdmi cable still same. Can you help me identify the issue. Is it chip failure or hdmi port failure?

Hi! After 8 years of not using my ps3 fat i turned it on today, it worked like a charm, but after it was on for about 1 hour, the screen turned black. After resetting it i got a very glitchy screen, turning on and off, until.. it stayed off. I can Tell the ps3 is still working but it doesnt have display via HDMI. Well , can be anything. Start from checking av output, but something tells me it’s GPU..
I tried to do this but all it comes up is a little grey screen within a black screen. There are absolutely no words at all and both of my controllers refused to turn on and connect to the PlayStation 3 at all even after I reset them. Even if I had a touch screen TV I wouldn't be able to go to any of the settings in safe mode to make it restore anything or reset anything or anything. There are no words that come up at all. I even tried changing where the HDMI was hooked up to the TV I tried to unplug it for a while the PlayStation I even tried unplugging HDMI for a little bit and plug it back in and see if it would try to reset that too no matter what I do there are no words at all. On the screen no thing like usually it'll say that it's shut down improperly or something when I unplug it for a while that didn't pop up either so there's no words on the screen there's no way for me to touch any words even if there were words because it won't hook up with anything I seriously need help because none of these have helped me I tried doing a hard and soft reset with the power buttons and stuff and unplugging and everything and no matter what I do nothing is working at all. It's very upsetting very frustrating I tried banging the PlayStation a little bit not too hard obviously I tried shaking it I tried blowing in every little hole trying to get a little bit of dust out if that was the problem there was an issue with that outlet at one point where for you plug it into the wall it was a little corroded around the metal that plugs into the wall and the PlayStation to turn the power on I clean that all up make sure it was dry and everything so it finally has power cuz for a little while he wouldn't turn on there was no red light or anything but thankfully it was just that issue the power cord I fixed it so now it's turning on but there is nothing and on top of all that where all these videos say that they're supposed to be beeps when the PS3 turns on and off and everything to make you go into safe mode and reset it and whatever there's no noises no beeps at all. I just held it down for as long as I could multiple times until it finally came up instead of being completely black screen to a black screen with a big gray screen in the middle so should be technically it is in safe mode so I can you know do all the steps that you can take to try to fix it but there's absolutely no words on the screen so basically no menu even if my PlayStation 3 controller would turn on and hook up to the PlayStation they would be useless because I cannot move anything I cannot touch anything there's nothing to touch there's no words I hope and pray that somebody knows what's wrong with it and they can help me I really need help I'm begging you please.
Wow, first of all, this is the biggest comment I’ve ever seen on TH-cam 😂. As far as I can see, there is no way I can help you, because this console needs to be disassembled and tested with proper tools. If there is a service center in your area ask them for help.

If you get the signal from av port maybe this chip is the reason why you don’t have signal from hdmi

Great fix man! My ceche01 ps3 is having no display on hdmi but does have video on AV. I replaced the hdmi port and it still didnt work but my tv says it recognizes something anyway its just no video. Do you think replacing this chip could fix this?

Screw driver. (T8 and T10)
Soldering iron (use a thin tip if you have)
Solder.
Solder flux
Solder wick ( useful, but not necessary)
Hot air gun ( or you can use any soldering station, it has both soldering iron and hot air gun)
Tweezers.
Microscope or a loupe.
The chip ( depends on your ps3 model)
If you have never done anything like this before you need to practice first. You can easily destroy the solder points or simply overheat the chip. Be careful and think twice before you do. Good luck 👍

But if they have different model numbers, does that work. the HDMI was working today 2 minutes before i started to connect elgato hd60 and switcher then when i disconnected all and only connected back only ps3 to TV no HDMI is active on TV. I tried to reset holding power button still not working and changed 3 diffrent hDMI not working yet

I used to have AMTech flux and I liked it more than the one I have now(some chip Chinese flux , it does it’s job well I just liked amtech more.) your ps3 can be different but they may have the same chips on the board, check the chip model)
Which HDMI IC chip is it for the 80gb fat bw compat model?
Also i have diagnosed my ps3 all the way to finding a consistent file system corruption when trying to repair file system from safe mode, it repairs 100% and works but if i check it again in safe mode it constantly says the file system is corrupt. Even after a factory reset deleting all data

Hello, There are lots of reasons for that. If you tried to reset video output settings then I say you have a hardware problem. If you are not familiar with testing/repairing pcbs don't try that, leave it to professional repair guys in your area, or grab another second hand console.
How to know if HDMI connector or HDMI IC is causing no signal?

I'm having a hard time with my PS3 Super Slim, it turns on green light but it shows nothing (no signal on TV) I tried with HDMI cables an RCA ones also swapping Hard drives hopping if it works but still black screen
@@andrei294 you can plug in rca cable and reset video output settings by holding power button. You can search the internet for the guide. If it doesn’t work then your RSX chip got unsoldered from motherboard and you need to reball it, or replace the chip. Or 100 other reasons😀

Can't seem to get the signal / picture to show. I've opened it up and pretty much removed all the dust hidden in the nooks and crannys. It doesn't seem to have been opened before me, since the warrenty bits were in the way etc. Would it be possible to ship my console your way for a fix? Or maybe if it's too pricey, you could perhaps hand-hold me through the process? Requested to follow you in Instagram ( I don't use or know how to use Instagram but i'll figure it out. )
First, try this:
Reset Video Output
1. Put your PS3 on standby.
2. Unplug the power lead.
3. Connect HDMI cable to HDMI out on PS3 and HDMI in on TV
4. Connect PS3 so that the red standby light is showing
5. Hold down the On/Off button until you hear a second beep. The PS3 will try and detect the display output settings on your monitor.
If it doesn't work out, try to use a component output and make sure that it shows a picture and there is a problem with your HDMI output
@@ReMARKCHANNEL Tried that already mate, i've got the PS3 opened again right now and it seems a lot different on the board than the model you got! I have one of the fat models that can run PS2 games.
- It turns on with the green light, fans work, disc drive takes in and spits out discs.
- I can turn it back off via holding the power on the front of the console.
- No picture via composite or hdmi cables.
- Turned it on with and without the HDD, no changes.
- Tried the trick with getting safe mode and resetting the resolution etc, no luck with that either.
@@TakuSkellaku probably it’s the cpu. I had the same behavior of a ps3 fat . That time it was fixed by reballing the CELL.
