The last parts true but you most definitely don’t watch kings ball based on the first 5 words. Duarte is an alright defender that fouls too much to play any sort of consistent minutes? I’m not too worried about the Kings defense. Barnes for DeRozan is a lateral move defensively; coming from a Kings fan who watched nearly every game, Barnes was a negative most of the time on defense and DeRozan, while not being much better, likely won’t be much worse either. Duarte and Mitchell do suck to lose defensively, but Off Night’s size limited his matchups frequently and Duarte barely cracked the rotation and played incredibly inconsistently on both ends when he did.
Post Monk and Huerter injuries, the Kings had a statistically pretty good defense with a top 10 defensive rating in the league. During this time, Keon Ellis was starting. He’s only 6’3” but has a 6’9” wingspan, is a very very high IQ defender in terms of floor management, and is a knock down shooter in the games he’s played, shooting upwards of 42% from 3. In the summer league and towards the end of last season, we also saw him be a solid finisher and playmaker on offense (not great but solid).
Rolling out a lineup of Fox/Ellis/DeRozan/Murray/Sabonis is very good on the perimeter, with Fox being a very good, very fast defender, Murray being able to guard 1-4 very proficiently, and Ellis seemingly serving as a defensive anchor and elevator for the entire team like he did last year. The interior is still a problem, as DeRozan adds little to no length and Sabonis, while being a competent defender, is not a good rim protector. In the bench, Devin Carter seems to essentially be Off Night but with length; once he’s back he will be a great backup defensively. Malik and Red Velvet both are not particularly good defenders, being decent at best. Trey Bae is a very solid interior defender but can’t guard the perimeter. Alex Len adds a lot of size and decent rim protection. If we can add more wings with good length to the team then I think we’ll be in a very good spot defensively, and as it is we’ll be solid staggering minutes between guys.

Literally argued against the community in 2023 from BR and I predicted they would finish top 4 seed and they were gonna be top 2 until Kings decided to take off the breaks and locked themselves 3rd seed.
The way I can see how it plays out, Kings will be top 2 seed. Kings were beating every top seed besides Clippers and Pelicans when healthy for both teams last season.
The fact Barnes is gone from the starting line up alone makes the Kings better. You add DeRozan 25/5/4 will make the Kings miles better than they have been last two seasons. Kings were winning games in spite of Barnes.
It's the media who wants to bring the Kings down so badly, have everyone thinking wrong. While despite Fox would evenly match or play better than SGA, Ant, Luka and Kyrie he doesnt get the same praise. Fox have better stat line than the guards that made all NBA last season, and he didn't make it. Fox defense massively improved last two seasons, he lead the league in steals and yet the media still act like Fox is a defensive liability thats why many speak like Fox can't play defense or mediocre.
DeRozan doesn't improve the horrible defense... How is middle of the pack defense HORRIBLE? because of the media and idiots online. Kings were TOP 5 ON DEFENSE IN THE SECOND HALF BUT THEY PLAY NO DEFENSE. Literally only team get talked about of no defense yet finished in top 10 in the 2nd half of the season.
Kings were top 4 before the injuries started happening, and Kings were top 5-6 before Huerter went down, and then Monk went down to knock the Kings all the way to 9th.

The Kings had the 4th best defense in the NBA over the last 2 months of the season. Keon Ellis was the reason why. As well as big jumps defensively from Fox who led the league in steals, and from Murray who had insane 1 on 1 defensive stats. They can’t trade for another starter. Their lineup is pretty set. Fox/Ellis/Derozan/Murray/Sabonis - Monk/Huerter/McDaniels/Lyles/Len - and Carter should see some minutes when he comes back.
A lot of people are saying they should trade Huerter which I get. His skill set is kind of redundant especially coming off the bench but he provides at least some insurance if Ellis or Monk or evn Derozan goes down for an extended period. Depth is the name of the game in the nba rn

They arent the best, but theyre not the worst either. It was their offense that dropped significantly last year with all the injuries. They went from #1 offensive rating to #13.
I can tell you didn't do your research on how the Kings finished their 23-24 season and was stuck on the media narrative of 22-23 season.

Were the kings a poor defensive team last season? Thought we were pretty middle of the road overall, had a couple months straight with a top 5 defense too.

Kings were a top 10 defense in the final 50 games of the season and top 5 in the final 25 games. Duarte didn’t play much and switching barnes for DeMar is a wash defensively. Kings will have a top 10 offense and defense next season.

Yea they’re goin for it alright. I like the team but dude.. 5 guards that could be starting on another team? No real presence on defense in the paint n nobody able to guard the 6’9-7’1 4s in the league.. they should’ve got a center

Yes, this is the biggest free agent signing in Kings history.
For context, here are the previous "biggest" names:
    1. Vlade Divac
    2. Rajon Rondo (post-prime)
    3. Malik Monk
nice players, but Sac NEVER gets stars unless its through a trade.

This is not going to help them come out the West. DeRozen is good but does not space the floor and a mid range player. They should be a solid playoff team but getting to western finals or coming out of the West. No........DeRozen is not enough. You look at Denver, OKC, Dallas, Minnesota. If those teams fall yes they have a shot but those teams 100% no they don't.

  • @TacosRule032

This is how I know you’re a casual. Kings defense was 4th overall after Heurter and Monk went out. Keon Eli’s started at SG and it turns out, he’s an elite defender. Murray is a good defender. Fox lead the league in steals. Kings fans know DeMar can’t be any worse than Barnes, Barnes was terrible.

"he doesn't fit into the modern NBA because doesn't shoot threes"
I can't believe the Warriors conned the ENTIRE LEAGUE (through arbitrary BS "analytics") into unanimously adopting a style of play that ONLY benefits the Warriors, because nobody else has the quality of shooters to pull it off BUT them. Which is evident by the fact that we have YET to see a repeat champion SINCE the Warriors. It's just not sustainable. I guess you can say they played chess while everybody else was playing checkers. I guess we could also say that Jordan and Kobe and Iverson wouldn't fit in this "modern NBA" either, right? Since they were primarily midrange guys... 🤦🏾‍♂️
The game needs more complete scorers LIKE a Derozan and less one-trick-pony Steph wannabes. When the threes stop falling, teams have NO IDEA how to score anymore, which is why large leads evaporate so quickly and frequently. You CANNOT sit there and tell me that watching teams jack up 40+ BAD threes every night is good for the game OR represents the way basketball "should" be played. The pace & space era has NOT done well for the game, overall.

  • @blowc1612
    @blowc1612 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

WTF YOU TALKING ABOUT?! Duarte and Barnes werent even GOOD defenders. Barnes WAS A DEFENSIVE LIABILITY. Length?! He got killed when he slides to the 4 and WAS TOO SLOW GUARDING THE 3. KINGS GOT DESTROYED BY LENGTHY TEAMS LIKE PELICANS BECAUSE OF BARNES.
Kings were fine against other teams. THEY HAVE 500 OR BETTER AGAINST THE PLAYOFFS TEAMS IN THE WEST EXCEPT FOR PELS AND CLIPPERS BECAUSE OF BARNES. Duarte was HORRIBLE.
Kings actually have over 500 against every top team in the west until they played those teams in the 2nd half, WHEN MONK AND HUERTER WENT DOWN AND LOST CLOSE GAMES.
Kings defense IMPROVED TO 4TH IN THE 2ND HALF OF THE SEASON. All these are the same FALAW NARRATIVES WHEN YOU CANT DO PROPER RESEARCH

I don't see Kings moving up in the west in terms of power ranking even with Demar. I see the Kings landing in between 8-5th seed at best.
I don't think in this era of the Kings basketball with Fox and Sabonis are contender worthy because their stars aren't superstars that can carry the team to a title.
It's like Fox is a 1B tier star level, and Sabonis is a 2B -1C tier star level player. And in my opinion, contenders usually have 1A or 2A tier star level player leading the way to a title
