      Thanks James Bender MacGyver! When is the next Stanley Adventure 2 cup system hack? 😁 I’ve watched the whole series and rewatched them again. Can’t get enough of your hacks, Mr. James Bender Stanley Hacker.

    Right on.....I always wondered what a person could use to carve their own wooden spoon without having to purchase special tools to do it. High 5 my friend.🖐🖐🖐🖐🖐

    That's a really great idea! About 15 years ago, I spent a LOT of money on a 52 piece master hand carving set: then realized that I had no idea what each tool was for lol. It even came in a beautiful leather roll, I ended up giving it to someone who knew how to use it, and I don't regret it, because sometimes knowing that you made the tool and used it properly, is far more rewarding! Thanks for the great video! Stay safe out there and God bless!

    Is it best to use wet green wood or dry on ground? Is there a problem with splitting?

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's always best to use greenwood for carving a spoon. The reason is, that dry wood is much harder to carve.

    I often find high carbon steel knives of various sizes at flea markets for one dollar or less each. Do you think that spoon-knives made from high carbon steel might hold a better edge & perform better? Thanks, & may God bless you.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they would definitely work and perform better.

  • @obmitno6745

    Hey James if you haven't got a blow torch would a regular fire also work something i might try

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not. The fire would melt the handle and it would be hard to get it hot enough. If you did that, you might have to put another handle on it. The torch is able to get it up to heat quickly, that's why it's the best option. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!

    Interesting now that's one I gotta try I've got a pair of hoof knifes I'd been thinking about changing the shape of ....🤔

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Glad you liked it. Of course, it's not the best for the heat treat/temper but for a spoon knife it works well enough. It will, however, work especially well if you are using a simple carbon steel.

  • @aaronflores21af
    @aaronflores21af 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Wouldn't this ruin the temper?

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's why you re-temper it in water.

  • @earlelzy7243

    I was going to say why not just buy the hook knife if you have to buy the torch then I remembered you saying this video is for those of you who like to make things.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually own several hook knives, but as you said this is for people who like to make things. It's also for folks who have the tools to make it and maybe don't have the money to buy one. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!

    I know what I will be doing this evening while enjoying a cigar. Just one question though, what kind of wood this best for the spoon, green or dry? I would assume dry but I've never made a screen before.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Green wood is easiest to carve, but it may crack when it dries although I've never had one do it. I would stay with green for your first time. Good question and thank you for watching!

    I guess it works. Never saw a curve knife with a regular knife edge. Usually it's flat on the oneside of the edge and angled on the other. Pretty cool that it works.

  • @Trimble240

    No tempering or sharpening after the quench? Without those steps I expect a brittle, dull knife shaped object.

    • @WayPointSurvival
      @WayPointSurvival  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it's certainly not the perfect solution. But, it does work and allows you to carve a spoon rather cheaply. And, being that it's stainless steel it's not even the proper heating or quenching technique. But, again, it does work. And, it is still rather sharp even without additional sharpening.
