Volume up and down worked nicely with Cortana. However, since it was discontinued in 2023, I haven't come across another speech recognition system that would understand this command. If you want to use the keyboard, you could try to see if saying 'press F6' or anything like that works on your PC?
Very interesting use cases, Mat. I tried using voice commands in a Non MS suite application and the commands sometimes don't work and I have to manually use my mouse instead to execute those actions. But this is very promising. I wonder if you have tips on how to optimise the experience should you wish to use voice access for Non MS applications?
@DrMatJ Thanks for your response. Was thinking of using my tax return preparation software. It's called Softassist and not readily available. It would be a game changer for accountants but I gather quite difficult and complex to build such a solution IMHO.
Unfortunately this feature leaves a lot to be desired, e.g. it is extremely difficult to use this if you want to keep your menus in English and would like to dictate in another language. Plus, when I restart Windows 11, it always is switched back to English and I need to select the other language each tme again after the login, very annoying indeed.
I have never tried dictating in a different language but I'll keep a close eye on how this technology develops. Are you only interested in dictation? If so, there are some other alternatives. For example very expensive Dragon and bit cheaper Otter AI
great work! simplest way to activate voice typing!
Best tutorial thanks.
Thank you!
Glad you found it useful! :)
Amazing! Thank you!

@user-hv9eu7xo1h great question! I'm currently travelling but once I come back, I'll sit down to it. Can you tell me what software you're thinking of?

Ongoing problem with Microsoft, even "voice access" from them does not work, locks up.
Have you ever considered using alternatives like Dragon (very expensive) or Otter AI (bit chepaer)? Maybe they could serve your needs better?
