I've always been a HK fan boy, HK417 and its many variants are my favorite all along, while SCARs are never my cup of tea, so thank you but I know very well this isn't a SCAR. Besides, how could one be unable to tell an AR style rifle from a SCAR? They barely have anything in common.

I still can’t believe SIG won the contract when the EOTech vudu and the Vortex 1-10 exist. Must’ve been way cheaper lol
Eotech has issues.. and the vortex is too lightly built (supposedly).. it's probably politics more than anything. The P320 has turned out to be such a success.. and the Sig Spear looks like it will likely win the NGSW trials too.. so I think that win's them some brownie points.

@Brooke B The P320 was a better design because of it's modularity.. that's what set it apart the most, and also what made it so much cheaper to build.. in the long run it will be easier to maintain and upgrade... sure I like the M&P and glock too... the vp9, fn509, ppq, xdm--- I get it, they are all great pistols, I own several of them; but I don't think the military made a bad choice-- to me they are all better than the m9, but that's just my preference.... as for the NGSW trials, I don't think it will end up "replacing" the m4.. I think they are going to take on the first orders and get them out there and replace some of the m249's and scar heavy and m14's that are still out there.. and possibly even m16's, and some M110 sniper's; and it's going to become obvious, that is all they are good for and orders are going to halt IMO... I just can't imagine every soldier getting one of these to replace their m4, at least I hope not-- that's pretty absurd. I honestly think its going to be like the SCAR program and end up not going anywhere.
@Cory Barrett It's just something to make it easier on the armorer when fixing things... and yeah, I especially seen that with the bigger X5 and X5 Legion.. But it comes with two springs. It's usually fine once you actually shoot it; get few hundred rounds through it for the break in-- another buzz word.
I still find it weird sig makes optics. I remember thinking it was disappointing they were putting their name on junk with the early optics. They’ve improved but I didn’t think they were contract winning good.

I would find a better scope for longer shots. The T6 is good for the under 300 crowd. That scope and mount is for the M4. The FFP is good for short work. That gun is for longer shots. But, it’s pretty.

Wow I've never actually heard about the bipod causing a zero shift by being mounted too far forward, but I guess that makes some sense... That's where the greatest leverage on the handguard and thus barrel nut would be... Interesting

Very accurate DMR for home defense
6:48 Damn even the casings bring the thunder.
This is a very good episode overall. The music especially had a very dramatic and melancholic effect. Sort of war is hell, but sometimes we have no other choice kind of feeling. I can get behind that. Bravo. The sound volume level was lower than normal however.

What is striking is that the buffer tube at the rear is much thicker because the gun has a thick bolt carrier at the rear. Unlike an AR10, which uses the same buffer tube as an M16. Its probably a bit better with handling the recoil. However i did not test it.

I have that pretty much exact same weapon system ( just are more slim handguard) ... tbh I think its heavy to stood freehand... I set it up as an DMR with a 27x scope...

Great video. But that handguard looks like they put it in the milling machine but still ran the old short program. The front half of that looks unfinished.

I only own one Heckler & Koch and love it but I will never buy another one. I have the MR556A1 and am glad the US military demanded that they design it to use STANAG M4/M16 magazines. They should have designed the 308's/7.62 NATO to use readily available SR25/AR10 magazines. You can't find their propriety magazines available anywhere and will be God awful expensive if you do get lucky and find them. Not to mention the other proprietary parts. I am beginning to believe the online saying "We are Heckler &Koch and we hate you." It seems that H&K only cares about military and civilian contracts and does not care or even like civilian customers interested in their products. I would like to have the MR762 but the proprietary magazines are a NO GO for me and you can't even find any right now!
Correction: I meant to say military and law enforcement contracts.
HKs philosophy on interchangeable parts are different from ours. Remember that they love to be the ones in charge of their own stuff. Take for example H-Key, it's similar to Keymod but not quite. The spacings different and the orientation is backwards, but they believed this to be a more reliable design. In this case, they probably didn't like the SR-25 mag and preferred their own design. I think it looks great but I agree with you it's stupid expensive
They're like the apple of guns
You will find out that HK is anti-gun. They really hate the fact that they have to sell guns to civilians in order to stay afloat. As for proprietary parts, that can be debated. On one hand it brings more money to HK, on the other hand, they can control the quality.
HK are like Apple, Porsche 911, or a Swiss watch. Do you really need one ? - No. But if you want one so much that you're buying it, it's stupid to comment about the prices and proprietary parts, because you knew what you're getting into.
So the question is, do you want cheap rims and no-name tires on your 911 ? Or a 12 cent bracelet on your fancy Swiss watch ?
The 417 magazines are larger so they can fit longer COAL, more than all the other 308 semi auto-loaders. Also the interior has a stainless steel liner, so the bullet tip does not gouge the polymer and slides freely. Cheap PMAGs don't have these features. German over-engineered, but purpose built.
You bring it out to show us that you can get the stuff we dream about

The military variant (HK-417 20”) was always my go to during my ArmA 3 days and still remains as my personal favorite rifle of all time. Can’t wait to have enough money to get one of these!

Iám proud to say I own this exact Rifle but with a different scope. My scope is a Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56. its a wonderful Rifle.Unfourtunaately 20 round magazins are forbidden in Germany.
