    I used to mix Masterblend like you did and I would get salts deposit in my containers. After some research I found that the correct way to mix them is Masterblend first, Epsom Salt second and lastly Calcium Nitrate. No more salts . Nice video.

    There are other comments that say the same thing. You are supposed to add calmag before micro. To expand a bit, it should follow this path...
    Armor si -> Calmag -> micro -> gro -> bloom -> others
    Feel free to comment if I'm wrong. I think that is the order. Not following the correct order could cause nutrient lockout and deny certain nutrients. Also shake the nutrients in their bottle before measuring

    • @Pepper_Rookie
      @Pepper_Rookie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's exactly how I mix my nutrients for Kratky hydro peppers, also use the same mix on my Canna plants, don't always use armor si tho, my mix per gallon is Dependant if plants are in growth or in fruit for growth it's 7.5 ml Calmag , 10ml Micro, 15 ml grow, 5ml bloom ph comes out to 5.9-6.1 ppm is 1100-1200 depending on the city water. Then in Bloom/Fruiting it's 7.5ml Calmag, 10ml Micro , 5ml Grow, 15ml Bloom, 5ml KoolBloom ph comes out to 5.9-6.1 ppm is 1310

    @HeyZeus667 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Masterblend is already formulated for flowering plants that's why it is a tomato formula, you don't need to add anything for growing peppers unless you are in the vegetative growth period. If you are in vegetative growth, then you add the calcium nitrate. The calcium nitrate will raise the nitrogen level of the mix turning it into a general purpose type fertilizer, like 19-18-38 from the original 4-18-38.

    Hi, Thanks for you video. If i could ask. I understand all the measurements that you did. I only need to know two things please. 1. Do you throw both the chemical mix(grow,bloom & micro) and powder/salt mix into the same plant container after done or do you only use one of the two? 2. My pepper plants have got curled up leaves, but my tomatoes right next to them look perfect. They both use the same mix(I use EHG coco nutrient kit). The sun is not to hectic. Do you know what this might be? Thanking you in advance.

    Khang, you didn't mention anything about filtering your hydroponic water. My tap water is about 340 PPM. I heard with hydroponics, the water should be under 20 PPM, and under 10 PPM is considered excellent. I used to use a Zero Water pitcher to filter my water, but that was too much of a hassle, so I bought a Hydro Logic 200 reverse osmosis filter, which brings my 340 PPM tap water down to about 4 PPM to 6 PPM. It takes about an hour to create 5 gallons of filtered water. 15 gallons of water is discarded to create the 5 gallons of filtered water. Do you filter your hydroponic water before adding the nutrients? What is you PPM before adding the nutrients? I heard that if the PPM is too high before adding the nutrients, you can get nutrient lock-out.
    I also use the Masterblend / Calcium Nitrate / Epsom Salt mix. For tomatoes and peppers, per 5 gallons 12 gm / 12 gm / 6 gm. For lettuce and greens 10 gm / 10 gm / 5 gm. Have you compared using the Masterblend / Calcium Nitrate / Epsom Salt mix to the General Hydroponics liquid nutrients? The liquid nutrients are generally much more expensive than the dry nutrients that requires mixing. If you've compared using the liquid verses dry mix nutrients with growing peppers, what were the results?
    After filter my water, I've been adding Masterblend, then heat up a large glass of filtered water in the microwave for two minutes, then mixing Calcium Nitrate in the hot water, which dissolves the Calcium Nitrate particles very quickly. I then add the Calcium Nitrate to the 5 gallon mix, followed by the Epsom Salt. From my experience, only the Calcium Nitrate doesn't dissolve very well unless warm or hot water is used. I haven't noticed a salt build up, but I will try changing the order to Masterblend, Epsom Salt, then pre-mixed Calcium Nitrate.

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you're very technical. I don't do any filtering, everything is straight from tap. If it's more difficult than tap water, I will not do hydroponic lol.
      Yes, I have done some comparison for peppers and I prefer the flora series for peppers, but prefer MB for leafy greens. With the 3 parts, I can adjust more bloom to feed peppers when they are budding, which in my experience, works very well.

    Hey Khang, you mentioned that you use the cal/Mag when the plants are ready to push out fruit and flower. Will the cal/Mag harm the plants if it's only in the veg stage? Yes, it will push buds. If the buds drop too much, try a different mix, maybe reducing calcium nitrate.

    I have totes.
    Or should I just use granular? I'm new at this.

    Are you using tap water, or filtered water? I ask because your MasterBlend ratios are higher than what I do. Using tap water, I do 2gm MB, 2gm Calcium Nitrate, 1gm Epsom, and I end up with about 1100-1200ppm.

    great video, thnx for the info. however, I noticed you said you PH balance before and after adding nutrients....your only supposed to PH and adjust one time after everything is mixed and done. The order in which everything is added is very, very important because certain nutrients/chemicals mixed in the wrong order will lock out other nutrients. thnx again for your video

    Hi thanks for a great video! I wanted to ask if Cal Mag is crucial, and if so, from what stage? Also, the water where I live is very hard, so I'm using the hard water version of GHE. In that case, would you still recommend to add Cal Mag? Thanks.

    good day! to prepare the solution for cultivation by the method of KRATKY You use such value as a gallon/ specify which gallon You mean a us gallon is 3.785 liters or English gallon is 4,546 liter? also, check - when using a set of FLORA SERIES 3 parts do I have to add EPSOM SALT? as some of Your videos You add it to the system on the basis of the GHE Supplement EPSOM SALT/ is it possible to replace this component on pure magnesium sulphate, because in my country there is no EPSOM SALT?

    Khang I have a question. I built a few of the self watering buckets for my peppers. Can I use the mixes you have made in this video to add to the bottom bucket or should I add it to the top dirt? My peppers have really greened up since putting them in the buckets. What would you suggest for fertilizer?

    • @KhangStarr
      @KhangStarr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suggest sticking to soil based fertilizer to keep it simple and easy. If your plants are looking healthy, don't fertilize yet. Watch for signs and feed only when they need some. My routine is usually once every two weeks. I start with a balanced fertilizer when the plant is in vegetative stage (14-14-14 or anything similar). Once you see bloom, switch to a lower nitrogen fertilizer.
