  • Today we are talking about how to mix hydroponic nutrients for beginners! When I first started to grow hydroponically, this was something that confused me. I hope that I can ease the confusion for some of you. This is specifically for the Flora Series nutrients, but others will be very similar!

    Always mix flora micro first. Then flow grow. Then flora bloom. You must mix the micro first to prevent it from getting locked out. You also must stir them between adding. You should not do them in the order that you did, and not stirring between is bad.

    Excellent detail! Really appreciate the explanations. Didn't know to wait 10-15 mins in between pH testing or that shake/stir well was required! One note, I read that it's better to create a diluted cup of pH adjuster, then incrementally add from that into the main mixed nutrients because sudden drops in pH can damage the nutrient solution ("lockout" or something like that...). Thanks so much!

Even the most well known "advance" type of youtube growers tend to skip over how in what quantities is needed to start off and im literally trying to plant my first basil plant in a hydroponic style. Here’s a tip for the pH meters. 1st those 12 dollar ones are about as reliable as a taste test and they’ll drift wildly even within a day of calibration. The nicer one like shown in the video (blue lab or Apera) are much more reliable and much easier to calibrate. Also, you can stand them up in the top of that one gallon jug and just gently squeeze the jug to bring your solution level up to the probe. Saves time, saves an extra step, and saves a solo cup from ending up in our oceans.

I ended up trimming the roots so that they don't go more than a half inch into the water. I see new white roots developing above the water line. Hopefully this lousy nutrient system didn't destroy what was a thriving set of pepper plants. If using this system ever again, I'll try without the Floramicro bottle. • @slpincock
    @slpincock ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My only question I can’t seem to find in any video on this brand is a two fold question.
    1. Do you use the mixture entirely in place of a regular watering, or do you mix it in?
    2. Since the hydroponics in water doesn’t really deteriorate that quickly, how often do you replace the mixture for a fresh solution? Every two weeks?

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I pretty much use it entirely in place of watering. Well.. it’s mixed with water but as long as the plant is healthy you don’t have to add any normal watering.
      That’s a tough question, it depends on the size of the container and the plant. At first.. I can go quite a while (over a month) without a fresh solution. Once the plant is mature it can deplete really quickly. I’ve had to add solution ever other day or so.
      If you are topping to solution off before it empties out, I would only do that 2 maybe 3 times at most before rinsing your container out and adding fresh nutrients.

    • @slpincock
      @slpincock ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhitepepperFarmshomestead yeah right after I typed that, I replaced my solution in my teeny Walmart special hydroponic garden I’m starting with. After a week and a half, my promising arugula sprout started looking a little wilted and sad, so I emptied it out, wiped down the water reservoir and replaced it with fresh solution

    • @WhitepepperFarmshomestead
      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An old solution can absolutely make a plant mad! Sometimes I will even bring the solution down to half or a quarter strength if I have something that isn’t too happy!

      @@WhitepepperFarmshomestead I definitely noticed my solution wasn’t as dark this time when I used a gallon jug of water I had stored away. Next time I’m just going to refill my gallon jug and mix it that way.

      These are mineral based nutrients and can be used in coco, soil, and hydro just make sure you read the dosage and recommended pH for your medium. I’ve used this trio for over a decade and find it’s easy and effective. Always start at 1/2 the recommended dosage and if you see any deficiency then gradually increase the dose. It’s always easier to add more than it is to take out especially in an outdoor setting. Hope this helps you. Short answer is yes you can use these in soil and outside.

      @WhitepepperFarmshomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeremy!
      A lot of it depends on where your plants are in their growth. I would have to get home and look at the chart to be sure BUT if I remember right the all purpose blend is 5ml of each per gallon. So 25ml of each per 5 gallons is what I would be doing for a general purpose mix. Definitely take into consideration where your plants are though, if they are seedlings I would be cutting that in half, and then if they are older and flowering I would be adding more bloom, etc.
