Kinda crazy how much halo has evolved in to having a bigger and more expensive setup. Having a setup with frames above 120 FPS definitely makes you a better player, I would say it makes you two ranks higher, especially if you switch to PC, with for example 200+ frames. Great interview and good luck to halo dad on his progress. 2:35
Let's fucking go Mike! Hell yeah, love to see it!! 31 y/o Halo dad here and my peak rank was D2. I've been losing my motivation the last few months (since my daughter was born, she's way more fun than Halo tbh lol) and this has reinvigorated my passion. Thank you Shyway, and thank you Mike!
I play the bare, minimum of ranked to actually just get some sort of placement but I love this video, nonetheless, and will certainly take it into consideration for the next time I go out for some rank placement, as well as just to get better at the game overall. I definitely am in the same spot as this Mike, I’m a dad in 30s working full-time job drive 100+ miles a day. very little time to actually play or improve at the game that I enjoy so much
@dc0dr no worries man! I went from P5 to P1 and I just finally got to D1 :) But in the end, we'll remember the times we spent with our kids over these Halo grinds. Good for you man. Try to keep up, these kids get crazy good at Fortnite lol
Setup is crazy. I went from a 1s and tv playing 30fps with who knows how much input lag to a ss 120fps less than 1ms. I’m frying everything and went from g6 to p4 in two days and still consistently climbing
Shy. Mike! AMAZING WORK! This is such a great testimonial. Through coaching, consistency, hard work, and a bit of ingenuity and passion are the recipe to success! Thank you for recommending the Academy Alex, and we’re very excited to work together 🔥 See everyone on Sunday! Mike, again excellent work! God bless 🙏🏼
I love success stories like this! I want to be better too, but I have ways to go! I recently upgraded my monitor to get 120 fps, and got a better controller to help my aim, and so far I'm way much better than when I first started. I just need better decision making when it comes to pushing and choosing my fights. Inspirational video all around!
41 yr old dad here. This is an awesome vid that hits a sweet spot for us all. My biggest thing has been getting my 11 year old to play this. He is big on Fortnite but can’t build his interest in Halo😢
Im a 34 old gamer dad of 2 kids. Ive hit Onyx every season since launch and i have over 60 days played in this game. Its all avout the grind and how you practice
This is such awesome wholesome content. Kudos to Shy for giving Mike the foundation and Kudos to Mike for embracing the grind while having fun with it. I think we can all learn from this. Go Mike!
A lot of people underestimate how important it is to play on a monitor with as little lag/response time as possible. TV marketing is misleading and your TV IS NOT fast enough unless you spent thousands of dollars on it. You can not respond in time or build muscle memory on a laggy setup. You will see an instant improvement in your aim by switching to even a 60hz 1ms monitor over a laggy TV. You don't necessarily need a gaming monitor for it to have acceptable response time.
Yuh I play on a 58” tv and it’s actually not too bad, but I see your point, I’m thinking bout goin back to a monitor and idk if this is a good option but I’m thinking of a curved monitor, on a monitor u don’t have to move your eyes or head as much and I kinda miss that advantage cuz u can focus more and I was actually really good in black ops 3 at the time on a small monitor and then I got the tv and I’m like wow I’m trash 😂
Monitor plays a huge advantage. It’s not talked about enough. I notice from my own experience and also my friends who normally play on a tv and try out the monitor, their gameplay improves as well
@@Kev_KashAm I at a disadvantage playing on a 55 in tv instead of a monitor? My tv does allow 120 fps, but I wonder if it’s too big for serious gaming.
Halo is definitely a generational game now. I’m well past 50 and just pleased if I get Gold each season. My kids (adults now) used to be my meatshields back in the Halo 3 / Reach days but now both destroy me 😅 but we’ve had a lifetime of enjoying Halo together
I play with 2 guys who are in their 40s+, and I gotta say this video is THE BEST advice/experience I have ever seen to help players escape the lower ranks! From video to video, you personally have helped bring me into the world of Halo and it’s community and I owe it to you and myself to make it to Onyx here soon. Can’t wait for more content brotha 🔥❤️🤝🏼

Wow I’m a ex pro for cod but always been huge halo fan and player I topped out right at onyx and haven’t made a huge return but this video would have turned what took me a year into probably 3 months thanks anyone saying they wanna go pro needs to do this right here
It is a different range I use but it has helped a ton. I do right stick aim, then left stick aim, then staffing one direction (like into cover) while aiming with right stick, then straff shooting. I do all with single firing and then spam shooting. It has helped identify slightly different ways I aim during matches. I use the map he uses and bot matches as well

LOVE this! I'm a plat player and I would love to get to Onyx one day. I started using the spreadsheet that Mike is doing. I've also changed from a TV to a monitor and I instantly saw my accuracy jump by 10%. My question is, to get to onyx do I HAVE to use a controller that has paddles/back buttons? I've tried a few different controllers and I grip the controller really hard which impacts my ability to use paddles & typically causes me to do things unintentionally. Would love your advice or thoughts.
Nice, love the enthusiasm! You don't need paddles to get onyx, but having paddles can - in the long run - improve your speed and flexibility in the movement/mechanics side of the game, without compromising your aim. If you're skilled in other areas (i.e. aim, spawn awareness, positioning, teamwork/communication) that can be enough to get you there! All that said, I recommend you to learn to not grip your controller really hard! It can negatively affect the movement & reactions in your hands. Like in sports/playing an instrument - the key is to calm yourself and loosen up when you play. You want to be in control of the tension in your hands and where you place it/how you use it. Can practice this while shooting bots!
@@Shyway I hadn't thought of it like that. Thank you for the insight! Due to this, I ordered the Razer Wolverine V2 controller.
