Completely agree with the APG take. APG was a great glue player, vibey players are so underated, all slayers never win when it matters. You need that bait, dirty job player, with good instincts willing to let the slayer shine. I felt like that was missing from this team all year.
Shyway, this os some of your best work. Your observation about APG and his effect on the team is one that i havent heard discussed yet. I think that its a super valid take. APG often gets overlooked

Great video. I am also interested in how this brains vs brawn plays out. Kinda reminds me of TD vs Str8. It is however noteworthy that Formal talked a lot about the esoteric aspects of being a winner, downplaying the raw gun skill component, then went and got 3 straight gunners. He thinks that HE can be that glue? That’s a risky bet on himself.
Every pro I've watched in matchmaking complains about their teammates with 0 exceptions. Snakebite and Stellur are the most mild about it from what I see but Lucid is in the same as everyone else and no worse when it comes to that behavior
Hard disagree. Ive watched this dude screech on stream, literally throwing a temper tantrum like a child. Ive not watched every pro stream, but of all of them ive never seen any complain as frequently as he does. I kept going back to his stream for like aweek thinking "i just saw him on a bad day" then he just did the same thing every time
Snakebite should get a trophy for “best attitude” in the league. Lucid and APG had a really good attitude first season but it went down hill pretty significantly for Lucid.

The problem is that Formal isn’t the IGL while talking about filling a role similar to Eco. Formal does hang back and plays at the pace of a strategist. Others on his team are the initiators. Formal isn’t IGL, isn’t main slayer, isn’t OBJ, he is a talented dude for sure, but what exactly is his role the slow moving sniper/area lock down dude?

I didn't watch a lot this year but when I did typically I saw Matt playing well and I wasn't seeing Lucid being as awesome or consistent as he was in years prior... but based off this video I can see both sides... they had their time, they're just not winning anymore... kinda seems like the optic guys just don't stand out anymore... like everything they do there's other players/teams that are better at whatever they are good at
As an optic fan since s1 all these moves had me feeling weird at first, but tbh I agree that things havent been the same since APG was dropped and the closer to locking in those new rosters we get the more excited I am about the next season of HCS. Realistically with the way the gaming industry is going this could seriously be one of the last EVER years of officially supported halo esports, so regardless of who goes to what team I will be here locked in to watch every match like I have been for the last 17 years
Been supporting OG since forever but season 4 I'm team Lucid (and Trippy and DZ) simply because I think Matt was pretty disrespectful towards them. I don't believe he exactly meant to be, but he was, period. I have 0 doubt they all wanted to win just as much as he did.
If only lucid didn’t divide the players with his whining, I’d agree with you. But the difference is formal wanted a team to win, lucid wanted his team to win but only if it’s his way. The arrogance is the division that lead to formals disrespect. Everyone complains about Lucids whining but have heard very little about it being hard playing with formal.
@@travisboatner "He whines = bad" My dude Lucid is a World Champ S1 MVP he's the best individual player in the game. You don't know anything if you think a bit of complaining in matchmaking is enough to discredit the best player in the game. 👍
Regardless of how much Valorant Formal played, it didn't effect his ability to CLUTCH up throughout the season. Formal wasn't the one dropping the ball at Worlds tbh. IMO, it was Optic's strategy of falling back and playing it safe whenever they had a lead, then losing momentum by playing on their back feet and losing series. Because Lucid is the IGL and you could hear him in real time telling his team to fall back, I think this had a lot more to do with Lucid's love for "scamming" over anything else going on with the team. I love both players, and Lucid is my favorite Infinite player of all time, but I have to call it down the middle. If the entire team was playing like Formal when it mattered, Optic would have faired a lot better against SSG... but I believe SSG was still the better team.
@@derell6656 What is this based on? Trippy isn't the IGL and when they turn on comms you can hear Lucid tell the team to fall back during a lead on multiple occasions.
Formal literally said he hopes HCS was done after this year and he didn't like the game. During online tourneys, he would play other games while waiting for their team to play. He was apathetic about Halo all year. He did well, but having that attitude can't be good for the team dynamic. Now he's the complete opposite and grinding all the time. I cheered for Optic this year, but now I hope they finish second all year again. It would be funny and fitting if Formal gets everything he wants and still can't win.

love the content shyway, you brought me back to halo. I think Lucid does tend to lose his ice but also I can understand also. He and Formal hate losing, but formal hates it in a way where it lights a fire under his ass, while tommy can let that matchmaking salt seep in a bit and cause him to lose the ice for whatever reason. Lucid and formal are always going to be 100000000000% better than me, but i just feel like Lucid needs to be that IGL man and you can't have two IGLs tbh. His senses and awareness are top notch along with his aim, so if he was in charge of the plays i bet his team would get somewhere.
the VODs are up. the receipts are out there. imo, if any of these players are going to blame their teammates, they need to name time stamps or shut up. also, 10:00 is interesting. Lucid is so used to carrying in matchmaking that he doesn't really play for his teammates, he plays for himself.
I think another thing to point out with the Optic situation last year is that Formal can look at his performances and say he always played well in tournaments, which is very true, he's a gamer and steps up on LAN. But Halo is a team sport, and part of what made Optic so good the first 2 years was how well they played together, and in year 3 they are adding a new teammate, and working on setups and situations takes team game play, on top of individual talent. I could see where Lucid and Trippy might have felt like they were maximizing their team talent because they were playing enough together throughout the season. Heck Formal might have played more with Lucid and Trippy year one before he was on the Optic Halo team than he did year 3, because year 1 he was grinding MM & 8's trying to prove his talent to other teams.
Nah. Lucid is the issue tbh. Formal streamig other games did not effect his performance as he carried plenty of times and was absolutely clutch when it mattered most. Lucid, however, was the IGL. So every time we saw Optic get a lead, then slow down and basically hide, that was Lucid calling the play. This is what I believe Formal was talking about when he was giving Eco credit for how he managed SSG. I wouldn't even really call it brains versus brawn when we look at the fact that Stellur, and Lucid are top 3 in the scene right now, and Snakebite is a gritty, and lethal player who will stop at nothing to win. If they all give Eco the reins, then they're going to be insane.
Language by the algorithm is mostly just monitored in the first 5 min. So that's why the beginning is often edited or streamers are more careful in the beginning
I knew it was gonna be a distraction. But there was so much more than that and it's not even saying Formal wasn't locked it just leaves a cloud over the situation.
the fact luciid was laughing when he got killed by camo in GFs at slc was deffo a contributing factor to formal wanting a new roster, guy was soo checked out
4:20-4:30 He's right...there's a point in the game where someone feels they can get in their bag...and it's hell to put them back in the box once they're wylin out. To answer his question...its Trippy 🤣 More often than not plays are made on him out of the 4.
I thought for sure he was done after Worlds. If he is playing next year, him and Lucid having beef is gonna make HCS so much more entertaining than it already is. Like someone getting Ninja'd, you hate to see it, but I'm excited!
Some of you’ll focusing so hard on Formal playing other games. OpTic literally mental BOOMED every grand finals without fail. They literally lost two grand final resets and then got reverse sweeped at worlds. How the fuck is him playing the game hours on end going to fix that? They literally lacked chemistry and teamwork all year in the matches that mattered the most.
I was talking about this with a buddy of mine and we both agreed that we’re fans of players NOT orgs. I personally like all 4 guys from Optic so I’ll be rooting for them all to do well no matter where they end up
Always been a Formal fan. Lucid is crazy on the sticks don't get me wrong but as ive gotten older and Formal has gotten older there's a level of wisdom to his gameplay. Will it work for him we don't know but simply put he's one of the most decorated players in gaming and I can't let that go. Comparing strategists and slayers etc etc Formal has been through it all he's seen the best of the best throughout the years in many titles and I think that's what's going to potentially make him a fantastic IGL. He's gotten older his skill is there still which is a testament to his knowledge of game sense. I'm excited to see what this year holds.
I think Leqend was the difference. SSG got 1 more cracked slayer and OpTic got an OBJ in deadzone. I don't think Lucid was the issue at all. If you swap Lucid for bound or leqend I think you get the same results all year. Those 2 are not better than Lucid imo. After all, they beat every other team all year, including FaZe.
One of the players already said it, forget who, but they said it just kinda ran its course. Formal kinda lost motivation for that team. Maybe they all did. It sucks that he had to blow up that roster to find motivation again but now he’s kinda got a rival so he has to grind. Cause he can’t get absolutely owned by his rival. It’s also good his rival is top three in the game. More motivation than ever to play and win. All the roster shake ups are good for halo in the long run like trippy said. It’s fucking exciting
Resets are a necessary evil. The alternative is a match playing out that nobody wants to watch and isn't competitive. I'd rather they reset and I actually get to continue enjoying the match.
I mean at least on Formals side it doesn't seem to be hostile and I havent seen Lucid say anything that would make me think he is either. 6 second place finished dont happen for no reason, it is time for a change. Roster changes happen all the time in other Esports like Counter Strike, its normal. It doesn't have to mean Formal and Lucid or anyone else on Optic cant be friends.
The Disconnects and Resets on LAN have to addressed and corrected. I think that's the number 1 thing holding back our viewership and player count. Matchmaking experience is riddled with 3v4 experiences and on LAN, good teams in the lead are getting fucked over because the game cannot stop itself from crashing every other match.
Honestly Optic just needed to tighten up some game modes. It wasn’t that they were up 3-0 and then just threw the next games. It’s that the first 3 games favored optic and the last 3 game types were they’re worst/SSG are better. They just weren’t the best at EVERY game type and map.

I feel like Formal and Lucid where 2 IGL’s who probably butted heads and made the gameplay not as smooth as it should be. Lucid and Trippy where great at times, but I feel like if formal has a strat that differs with Lucids, Trippy would go with Lucid’s which could make it clunky-
The team with lucid and them , just has so much inconsistency when it comes to slaying where I feel they would get overwhelmed by the pressure created by the team of formal
Lucid is going to beat Formals new team, all season, next season. Lucid is so much greater than Formal. Unless Formal gets the craziest team of all time…
Hay, have you thought about doing a video on Eco? I feel like he is a very disrespected player, and a lot of people underestimate what he brings to a team. Could be a useful way to explore the IGL, team comms, etc.
Lucid is he strategy player for the team , and you can tell when it came down to crunch time lucid fell while formal turned into the Championship formal we all know , Formal building a team with the rumored roster of renegade , bound and legend with the fast pace blitz they they can provide on the map with formal being the mythodical one that team is gonna be a force to be reckon with
I imagine its pretty annoying having a teammate avoiding in game practice all season to then come out and say they didn't want it as bad as him. Sure he did well but there wasnt a lot of team cohesion there and it probably would have been better if they spent more time talking to one another which i think was something that was avoided by everyone.
@@PcCAvioN he woulda never got to finals without his other members carrying him. He was double neg and the worst player Fri sat. He just doesn't choke the most in grands.
Anybody else get upset anytime Optic slowed down instead of keeping momentum this year? Luciid was IGL calling the shots last season and proved slays break strategies. Ssg finished gunfights and optic backed down when shields were down. So much unanswered damage.
Gotta watch this later but man seeing Formal hit that ace with that great aim in valorant just makes me so sad that Halo keeps being 100% controller when it comes to competition. I know why controller is used but come on.. they could have so much better aim if it wasnt so focused on it, and that clip proves it.
Team Lucid - and I hope we see a team Lucid and Stellur - and I hope they take down Formals God Squad. No hate to Formal. I love him for creating the current situation. Halo needs this.
I've been saying this after optic placed second immediately after dropping apg and every SINGLE time I get insane flak from Lucid turbo fans. Not to say penguin isn't better than apg individually because imo he is. My take is Lucid (for the 15th time in YT comments) is one of the best players in the game. Insanely talented, I'd say the same of him in H5, in fact I was hyping "Saiyan" up in H5 as being one of the best in the game. However his mental is rough, he loses composure and in a grand finals it only takes one teammate to bring the whole squad down. Side note: from what I can gather Trippy seems to perform the best when vibes are high and pressure is on him to make plays, and he has done so in the past. It appears that apg was in one way or another the glue that kept optic from losing full composure. Whether that be that he could keep Lucid in check mentally or something else entirely. It seems abundantly clear over the last few weeks that this was the case. I hope whoever Lucid ends up teaming with can give the kid some solid advice and mold him into a champ Sunday player, because he absolutely could be. Another side note: I say all this as a Faze fan btw, I have no excuse for my squad other than they don't really love the game (lack of passion) and they are still trying to play this heavy slay type gameplay that they ran in H5 and although it can work in Infinite it's incredibly inconsistent with how Infinite's gameplay flows. Okay go ahead with the whiny comebacks.
Obviously chokes happens but this halo team has chocked multiple championships its unforgivable. Being 3-0 and getting swept must be pain again and again
I don't think Formal was saying that the others didn't want to win as much as him. He was saying they didn't hate losing as much as him... there's a difference

@@Shywaythanks, yeah progressing really good on movement, aim, and game sense just I’m trying to nail rotations and spawn points
I just want to see this new optic squad compete if it is formal bound renegade legend that would be insane
the fact luciid was laughing when he got killed by camo in GFs at slc was deffo a contributing factor to formal wanting a new roster, guy was soo checked out
the game was already over
I think Lucid also wants to be the Eco on the team, and that's what conflicted.
2nd that, the resets are annoying af
Side note, that roster was insane. Penguin, sparty, Lucid and Snipedown…. Holy hell.
Random question what is that TH-cam seeking addon you have on your player?
Have these rosters been confirmed? Thought they were still just rumored
That’s true chemistry is big when APG was on optic tbh it felt like they were meant to be a team.
7:50 so basically Stellur is Linda, Bound is Kelly and Lqgend is the fucking Master Chief
Everyone is forgetting about frosty and royal2. Dont sleep on the H5 goat.
I personally like all 4 guys from Optic so I’ll be rooting for them all to do well no matter where they end up
People like you are scum imagine supporting a player over a org you weird pathetic freak
He also wants to pass on his knowledge too Formal
A part of me thinks Formal wanted to drop Lucid and Trippy for Eco and Stellur last year
bound and legend not eco and Stellur
@@TimothyBlankenship-ib9pm I was driving so ain’t have time to finish but I meant last year, not this year
I think Leqend was the difference.
Imagine in the 100m finals, gun goes off but lane 2 got a bad start, so he fires his hand up and the race gets reset?
I think Le Bound, Renegade and Itsthelastshot instead of Formal. I'm not sure Formal is quick enough to keep up with the other 3.
What I got out of this is that Formal wishes he could replace Eco for a new Optic squad.
FormaL vs Lucid FULL GEAR
Resets are a necessary evil. The alternative is a match playing out that nobody wants to watch and isn't competitive.
I'd rather they reset and I actually get to continue enjoying the match.
I'd rather the game not be fucked but here we are
They gotta go back to console for that.@@rleften5788
That’s baked in deep deep in the code, if they had the ability to fix it they would have done it by now. 343 bad devs
Faze losing->disconnect->win the rematch every single time. Faze does it on purpose
there is no beef. formal didnt want to practice and lucid was annoyed bc formal said he was the only one trying
Honestly Optic just needed to tighten up some game modes. It wasn’t that they were up 3-0 and then just threw the next games. It’s that the first 3 games favored optic and the last 3 game types were they’re worst/SSG are better.
They just weren’t the best at EVERY game type and map.

They beat every team in the league. They’re obviously second best/contending for first. They just had weak spots that needed closed.
Dude i did notice the game end x2 during that tourny wtf!
Lucid is he strategy player for the team , and you can tell when it came down to crunch time lucid fell while formal turned into the Championship formal we all know , Formal building a team with the rumored roster of renegade , bound and legend with the fast pace blitz they they can provide on the map with formal being the mythodical one that team is gonna be a force to be reckon with
A Frosty Royal 2 Trippy Supressed squad would hit
Lucid is right but formals team gonna bop lucids team all season
@10:58 100% they got robbed
Formal was their best player at the end of the year , all lucid does is Complain about everything and trippy is just lucid’s little mouthpiece
@haydenknight9263 was he though. I specifically remember Trippy and Deadzonecarrying Friday and Saturday.
Formal was +20 or something in the grand finals while the rest were negative, so every casual claims formal carried the team@CombatMedic1O
Imagine getting shit on all year and trying to blame it on your teammate “who’s not even trying”who’s carrying you that’s just embarrassing 😂😂
@@PcCAvioN he woulda never got to finals without his other members carrying him. He was double neg and the worst player Fri sat. He just doesn't choke the most in grands.
We talking about practice..not the game..we talking about practice
Anybody else get upset anytime Optic slowed down instead of keeping momentum this year? Luciid was IGL calling the shots last season and proved slays break strategies. Ssg finished gunfights and optic backed down when shields were down. So much unanswered damage.
Formal played Val and other games before they won the 1st worlds..
Gotta watch this later but man seeing Formal hit that ace with that great aim in valorant just makes me so sad that Halo keeps being 100% controller when it comes to competition. I know why controller is used but come on.. they could have so much better aim if it wasnt so focused on it, and that clip proves it.
Can't wait til next season... Just hope the Meta and GA change anymore..
They need to bring back the beam as a substitute for shotty.
It's possible, Lucia has a little temper
Renegade, formal, bound, lqgend
Vs.
Stellur, eco, lucid & mental
I been saying APG needs to come back! He should've never left in the first place.
