PS3 over RGB SCART is still my favourite digital media player for my 15KHz widescreen CRT, sending digital audio to my (non-Creative) speakers.
PS5 only supports HDMI Forum VRR which works by embedding the clock data in the FRL (fixed rate link) pipe. Watching too many of these DF clips will make people stop becoming immersed in their games and only notice frames per second. This is not a pro-gaming channel. This is a nitpicking circle-jerk.
Damn, brutal lol. I don't see it as a big deal but some people do use the information just to cause drama. But that's on the people being weird. The game is what it is regardless of what DF has to say about it. Making a video talking about technical issues doesn't magically manifest them. The problems obviously already existed.
Why are you upset? DF is all about technical aspects of video games, and a lot of people care about that. Bad framerate totally fuck my immersion in a game personally, it's great to be easily informed.
You can see it from another view point, people play a game and wonder why it somehow doesn't work or dropping frames/graphics, they look on YT and see a DF video that tells them why, can't get mad at DF for letting people know if a game plays well or not, it's useful info,, it shouldn't be used for console wars tho.
@crday3090 A difference of opinion I suppose but I would say pointing out the issues is pro gaming. Especially in the PC space. We spend all this money on components because we care about the experiences we are having. We want to buy and play these games but at times the performance detracts from the experience. The issues become magnified when you play game ABC that runs just fine. Then you play XYZ the next day and it's stuttering, crashing, or whatever. Makes it feel even worse. So DF and others point these issues out to bring awareness of what you are spending your money on. Also to hopefully get developers to not make the same mistakes others have made.

Freesync over HDMI was a thing long before HDMI 2.1, and is still ubiquitous among monitors not fancy enough to actually run HDMI 2.1. Hardly anything unique about that.
VRR works with my hdmi 2.0 TCL 2019
I'm confused because I have a TCL 55-Inch 6-Series QLED that only has HDMI 2.0 inputs. My PS5 recognizes the VRR and says it's supposed. I can turn the vrr on and if I click the Roku remote during games, it will say "VRR" in the info box.
Is the VRR not working and it's lying to me?
Why does it lie?!
HDMI is a mess. EVERY feature is separately. You can have HDMI VRR with an 18Gbps Port. By the rules of the HDMI org this makes your Port already „HDMI 2.1“, even it cannot support 4K120.
Sony only gives the VRR option to monitors with a VRR certification (which is different to V sync and G sync). This usually only happens in hdmi 2.1 displays with the odd 2.0 displays having it
@@cvzoneare you saying hdmi 2.1 doesnt support 4k@120hz?
@@ItsIcedDonut if monitor have adaptive-sync could work vrr on ps5 via hdmi 2.0 ?
Compared to XBox' Series consoles Sony's VRR support is nothing but a bad joke.
This.
I have a ps5 and lg c1 oled. I have a denon receiver that supports vrr and 120 hz. On game optimizer, I get 120hz and vrr for gaming but when I switch to netflix, It shows vrr off and only 60hz. Can anyone tell me why?
I wonder how much effort it takes to support these different displays, it would be really sad if it was just some extra lines of code and sony just refuses to do it for generations.
My freesync hdmi 2.0 tv worked with ps5 for a few hrs. Now it wont.
And we're supposed to be impressed/interested with the PS5 Pro?
lg 27gs95 here. HDMI 2.1 and scaler that allows to render 4k and downscale it on my 1440p screen
I hate how both VRR and 120hz work on PS5. I really hope the PS5 Pro (if it ever comes out) fixes both issues.
It fixed nothing - confirmed.
Wonder what Rob Tobias would think?
And then you see the new asus oled monitors coming out where the cheaper one only has hdmi 2.0 and the more expensive one has hfmi 2.1, as if they know that this issue exist. God forbid that you can use the cheaper one with a ps5 and using the vrr technology
I have the exact same issue with the ASUS VG27WQ1B, VRR works perfectly on Series S over HDMI, does not work on PS5. Really annoying.
I just bought an LC Power M44-DFHD-120. It's HDMI 2.0 and supports FreeSync Premium over that.
vrr work on ps5? i select a 1440p 165hz monitor with adaptive sync i want to buy idk it work via hdmi or only displayport , i hope support vrr on ps5

Damn that’s a heavy tv and monitor. Hmm don’t want to know how much that weighs in dollars.

My acer monitor has freesync premium should I turn it on or off when on my ps5?
dumb question i have the same problem with my LG 27GP850P-B 180hz monitor can just buy an hdmi to displayport cable and use 120 hz on the ps5 then ? since my monitor has dp 1.4
i have a gigabyte g24f2 1080p monitor that has hdmi 2.0 with vrr support that works fine on my pc but not with my ps5, it sucks
What I find to be even more annoying is how PS5 doesn't support VRR in PS4 games. So even if you have a HDMI 2.1 compliant display, when playing PS5-aware PS4 titles, such as Dying Light and Crysis Remastered, you'll still unavoidably experience occasional frame rate drops. It's needlessly frustrating.
He probably has an HDMI 2.0 monitor those support 120hz at 1440p and alll but no allm on ps5
I've seen hdmi 2.0 monitors that the ps5 work fine with too.
Idkw but my monitor runs rocket league a ps4 game at 120hz with freesync and hdr on ps5 so idk what is wrong
I love when people who claim to be using the latest greatest of technology complain about when that technology becomes the standard. These people tell on themselves about who has been lying and who is telling the truth.
Does anyone know why when freesync is enabled on TV or monitor the colors are washed picture quality looks much low when it's turn it so back normal is there a Fix for this. which one has better inputs, Latency freesync or HDMI 2.1 VRR
Not all 2.1 hdmi work. Lenovo r27q-30 doesnt
I know it's stereotypical but Japanese can be very stubborn on one hand and very progressive at the other :p FromSoftware and their netcode - until recently that was something with even Japanese fighting devs; terrible, terrible. Hell you still can't play Smash Bros online on the Switch with anything resembling a normal connection. Nintendo would sooner tell you to ''go see your friends in real life to play with or against them!'' than have that fixed. Sony being stubborn with VRR and resolutions and isn't anything surprising to me to be honest.
PlayStation has little do with Japan at this point. SIE is now headquartered in San Mateo, all engineering is done in the US, etc.
@@boshi9 I'll be honest with you - I did not know that! In that case, nevermind haha :p
I have a PS3 hooked up to an HD CRT that supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i. You can change display output in settings never had a problem with it delivering any resolution other than what it’s set to.
I think the point that was being made is that PlayStations typically only stick to the main TV standards whereas Xboxes support those along with a wide range of PC monitor resolutions and standards giving more display options. An Xbox 360 connected via a VGA cable for example offered everything from 640x480 up to 1920x1080.
Yep had vga for my 360 it looked far better I thought
This amd game pass is the reason I bought a Series X this year on sale for 399€ and play all third party games on that consol which means I only boot it up for GTA online which runs fine amd Helldivers. Sony could make much more money with me if they were not arrogant and stubborn and would release Triple AAA exclusive games like they did last gen. Series X and S are underrated. MS shouldve won this console gen. Much more consumer focussed but everyone just zalks about a handful of bad games that you dont even have to pqy extra for with gamepass.
One interesting thing is that PS5 still supports 1080i, which even the xbox one didnt support.

Just chiming in, I have the vg27aql1a a 1440p 170hz (max and over clocked) monitor, with hdmi 2.0, and the ps5 does not do VRR
I have the exact same monitor. No VRR on ps5 unfortunately. But it works on my PC through display port.
@@sainbayars I should have added that it does have VRR, how do you find the monitor otherwise?
@@johnjohnson7743 HDR is surprisingly good for 400 nits brightness. I mean God of war in HDR feels great. SDR after calibration pretty good. Before calibration just looks bad. I wish it had better speakers but given the price it's understandable I guess.
@@sainbayars yeah this isn’t 400 nits, I did a quick dirty test, comparing max brightness with an iPad Air 2 (415 nits) and an iPhone 8 (625 nits) and it’s way closer to iPhone. I think it’s around 500 nits, but I don’t have a real way to test it. My theory is it’s was supposed to be a HDR 500 monitor but that spec never really happened, because it exceeds all the requirements needed for HDR 400.
I don’t know if you’ve done this, but maxing out the brightness in SDR, on the mode you use in HDR, increases that brightness too.
I only have a PS5 and PS4 pro hooked up to it, so I don’t bother with SDR, but I did play around with it and yeah that’s not well calibrated out of the box.
In all I am very happy for the price though, HDR is obviously entry level, with an IPS screen and four dimming zones, but I love the brights and not having great contrast isn’t a deal breaker for me.
Can someone please explain.. my Samsung tv has the exact same freesync capabilities as the monitor I've just purchased. I can confirm 100% My tv is hdmi 2.0 and it can accept vrr at 1440 and 1080p 120hz. Why does my 2.0 monitor not work?
Your monitor does not have a 2.1 port which is necessary for vrr on ps5. If you had an Xbox or pc you would be able to use vrr, just some shitty design from Sony.

@@femto8402 I'm not upset, I'm a happy camper! I just like stating facts sometimes.
