    There have been enough games dropping below the regular VRR floor that Sony should have already implemented the same LFC "solution" as Xbox.
    Frankly, I wish you guys would cover, or call attention to, this issue more often because performance issues don't seem to get changed or improved much unless you guys point it out.

    Xbox One had a hardware compositor that combined different resolution panes from the game and apps before outputting. It's likely the Series consoles are similar, with the final output to the display handled by the OS and not the game, meaning it can issue duplicate updates to the display for LFC if its not receiving new ones from the game.

    If you have an lg oled it is been shown in game mode that both color and brightness are reduced. No playing with settings changes it. The latest lg g4 and c4 have pretty much fixed it, but all models before show some loss in game mode. Remember game mode decreases latency by doing less processing on the image and you get a dimmer less colorful output.

    If this is the case, this is ridiculous. Sony should have the exact same feature
    Edit: I didn’t realise Xbox titles were still locked to 60fps when I made this comment. I misinterpreted it as all Xbox games run at an unlocked frame rate, when that isn’t true. 120hz container is only there so LFC can work properly.

    Perhaps the mentality is to make developers work harder to get frametimes right, because if everyone banks on inconsistent frames being the norm then that's still a choppier experience than a locked 60, if GameDevs focus on VRR120FPS+LFC which more than likely means most will still target mid-to-low double-digit FPSs then it might not be as big of an issue for displays going from 60 to 59.5fps or 30 down to 29.75(since in 120 container)constantly but for nonVRR120FPS+LFC displays it can be as much as a harsh whole 66ms going from an already low 30 down to a genuine 29, so the feature being a feature means you're expecting Devs to use it but doing so will hurt the vast amount of users who may not have a VRR120FPS+LFC display or those who may not know how to implement it, or choose to play outside of that mode because of the settings that they like to preserve which become unavailable otherwise(I suspect this last thing is the largest reasons since the majority of displays can't use their algorithms correctly if at all at these very fast frametimes so it kinda becomes experience breaking{broken OLEDflickering & broken Local-Dimming being the major ones commonly voiced})
    I do think however that the Pro being a Pro should offer more native Pro options since those users are more likely to be technically minded, & the performance overhead of the newer machine should hopefully mean less lower framerates to straddle between. TLDR VRR120FPS ironically makes more sense the higher in FPS you go, this is why it works as well as it does in GT7 because you're deciding from 90+ into 3 digit territory, that's already pretty high, so the judder of unlocked frame is less & less the higher up you go, & the last thing I'd want is for companies to feel more emboldened to make more Sub60 & Heaven forbid Sub30 running experiences as an acceptable standard banking on the displays to pull the weight. It's bad enough I have to use the features on my display to fix Netflix's poor streaming quality, I don't want to have to lean on my screen more then I already do to make games look better, that's my take, well until maybe newer tech' comes out that can work more harmoniously in the future but the current crop of display SoCs are too underpowered IMO to deliver fully without compromise, maybe still it'll make sense later this year with more folks upgrading displays & if we're lucky perhaps there may be a system wide update to all PS5 consoles when 5Pro comes out, IK when 4Pro came out all PS4s got upgraded into HDR capable if memory serves, which was the big deal between XOne(SDR) going to XOneS(with HDR)so fingers crossed

      @ChroniclesofKToyoda 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The last thing & I'm giving it it's own looong paragraph because of how useful of a feature I personally find it is, is that it will affectively break advanced motion smoothing for low(or even higher{but most useful for low})FPS content on higher end displays that still offer it while under low input Game Mode such as Sonys which do wonders for 30FPS games because the processing is good enough to look convincingly better without looking like a Telenovela(most Sony users don't even realize it's on by default{this especially includes in gaming}), but if these displays get repeat frames reported as new ones then you will get a horrid buttey to harsh consistently-inconsistent experience since only between the moving frames will there be improvements so the higher FPS affectively looks lower with this default feature which Sony users usually leave on(One because they are usually unaware it's even doing it's thing{but once they try playing low fps stuff without it they realize(if their eyes work)just how premium it is to have the game optimized version of it[only the custom version of it is available in game mode which isn't super aggressive|for even more increased smoothness it needs to be out of game mode for which there is a latency penalty\something at a premium on already latency heavy Half-V-Sync 30FPS applications/|]})So it doesn't make much sense to do 120FPS unless it's all new frames so you have to give up this feature, though because Sonys do double internally of the motion processing natively capable(As a general rule)in other words motion smoothing panel native 120FPS(to internal 240FPS might look near imperceptible(if used)but motion smoothing for 30FPS(where it's actually necessary)will only trigger every 4 native{or 8 virtual}frames in a 120FPS container & you will end up with an exaggerated affect similar to what OLEDs do where the image seems jarring & abrupt(instead of smooth transitions between values). IK many people will think "just turn the feature off" because they have poor experiences(on other devices&modes)but on a Sony under Game Mode it's a whole different BallGame. Superior Sony Motion Processing is why many if not most users pay premium Sony prices(Otherwise coined as the "Sony Tax"), it really dose from my experience pull a ton of weight quality & latency wise for low FPS gaming, no other display in my experience has come close, in fact some time back I had a Sony gaming display(still do)that did this without explaining it clearly & there wasn't even a way to turn it off & switching from that to other displays always made me realize something was missing & I don't know why but I game better with it, maybe because I'm sensitive to still images but it's a must for me & I'll turn the 120FPS container off if I need because Sony's use of motion in game mode actually makes things easier to see, it like calculates camera movement backwards or something, it genuinely feels like it's unbluring motion in one frame to then make multiple frames you can actually see, or if you're motion sensitive as I found out I am in OLEDVR(sample&hold sensitive not motion sickness sensitive)then it better helps convey movement instead of getting hit with a flipbook affect which hurts my gaming. So I feel like until they work out a protocol to actually tell the display which frame need to be ignored for correct processing in a 120FPS container I'll likely turn that container off, for slower story games I already find myself choosing 30FPS over 60FPS because at times the displays motion provides a better experience than giving up 4K clarity since the display ups the precived smoothness. The 30FPS others get isn't the 30FPS I'm feeling, & in unlocked FPS games which struggle to be close to 60 it's a no-brainer to switch to 30 Quality letting the display do the work. So until the 120FPS container can communicate over HDMI on how to calculate the motion it's a feature that gets in the way of Sony's motion processing which almost but not quite is like DLSS motion processing, once you've noticed the difference it's hard to want to compromise on it and the takeaway is the nature of forcing 120FPS for 30FPS(or other lowish FPSs even)would be Sony nurfing it's own technology prowess which I can't reasonably expect them to do by default, perhaps future HDMI 2.2 will have provisions to work holistically with this as other brands catch up it would make sense for the end user experience. LAST SENTENCE IF THIS IS THE ONLY PART YOU READ INSTEAD OF SKIM I'M NOT SUGGESTING THAT I DON'T LIKE NATIVE 120FPS CONTENT GIVE ME THAT ALL DAY IF YOU CAN IN DECENT QUALITY, I'M SAYING SUB 60FPS PARTICULARLY 30FPS CONTENT NEEDS MOTION RESOLUTION HELP FOR THOSE OF US WHO NEED HIGHER PERCEIVED FPS SO LETTING A QUALITY TV INCREASE FPS RATHER THAN GETTING LOCKED IN WITH DUPLICATE FRAMES IS WHY I THINK 120FPS CONTAINER ISN'T CURRENTLY THE DEFAULT FOR THE PS5 WHICH LACKS THE HORSEPOWER TO DO NON-DUPLICATE FRAME GAMING IN MOST TITLES FOR SUCH A HIGH FPS

    Keeping it turned off on the PS5 will help bolster sales of the PS5 Pro for those who want it.

The port itself is HDMI 2.1 (not full bandwidth), which I believe is only a few Gb/s difference between the Xbox which also isn't full bandwidth HDMI 2.1. Neither of which are powerful enough to actually use the full bandwidth of an actual HDMI 2.1 specification anyway. Upscaled 4k 30fps or even heavier upscaling from 720p or under to get to 120hz does not require a full HDMI 2.1 spec port.
