2022 has been dominated by football boots in the "speed" category! With so many great options to choose from, settling on just one can be a difficult decision. Well, that decision just got a little harder.
In today's video we take a closer look at the new MIJ Mizuno Alpha, the brand's most focused "speed" boots ever! It replaces the Rebula series, and unlike everything else from Mizuno, it does NOT feature any kangaroo leather! The Alpha is Mizuno's tech focused approach to creating the best "speed" boots possible, but unfortunately that comes at a cost. $320 to be specific, which is a lot. This of course begs the question, are these good enough, or even just that much better, to justify paying upwards of $100 more than some of its competition? We breakdown what they're all about, how they differ from the less expensive alternatives, and ultimately whether or not they're worth it. Do you think these are worth the price?

Me being in Asia (Singapore), im so blessed to have mizuno boots priced below most of nike offerings. This alpha MIJ for example retails around $280-$300 SGD depending on who sells them, while nike vapor and superfly here are $349-$399 SGD non-discounted.

Are the sellers from sportsgear stores or private sellers on external imports? Football stores in JB dont carry them, and i had to source a morelia all the way to KL, so wondering if you can recommend me the mizuno scene from across the causeway bro

Josh I managed to buy these alpha MIJ's at $169.57 in South Korea(Mizuno official online store) after applying an additional sign up welcome discount! Now they are out of stock but I think I got an incredible deal!

Also I am glad to find out that the carbon in the outsole is just plastic. From the photos elite version does not have that so we might not be missing out on carbon fiber in outsole.

The best brand for football boots imo. I’ve been hooked since I bought the wave ignites in 2012
I think 1/2 down is the way to go for most ppl…I wear 9.5 in vapors and my toe goes RIGHT to the end, took a shot at 9s on these and they fit perfect if anything still with more length/space than my vapors. Hard to see them being worn in the same size
The Elite version is the one to get. I haven’t tried the Furon yet but the Alpha Elite is better than the Vapor, Speedportal or Ultra IMO, and at a much more realistic price.
They feel similar to the Puma V1.11 SL to me! But with more durability and a better soleplate. What a speedboot!
$320 is a step price to pay for any boot. As much as I like “speed” boots, and the Alpha looks like an exceptionally good one. It’s a hard sale. Especially with the Vapor 15 and the new NB Furon can be had for much less.
I Josh, why don't you make a video on the ASICS ds light x-fly 4 which could compete directly with the Morelia neo?
I love mizuno football boots be it the morelia neo series,the morelia and the first 3 generations of Rebula which I can somewhat the $300 price tag for the MiJ models. Especially how well crafted their leather boots are but I’ll be honest here there’s no way in hell I’ll be spending $320 for a pair of synthetic boots when you do have options like the New Balance Furon V7 pro and Nike Mercurial Vapor 15 elites. Unless you’re living in the Asian regions you can get it a bit cheaper but again $320 is pretty steep and in that case I’ll rather go for Morelia Neo 3 beta

The alphas remind me a lot of some of the older evospeed models in terms of the silhouette. If they made it in AG that would definitely interest me.

In comparison to Rebula 3 MIJ and Morelia DNA MIJ, how is the fit? On me in same size, Rebula 3 tight/cozy and DNA has some more space/flex. Wondering how these compare? Cheers and thank you.

MIJ likely to last at least 50% longer than your typical non-Mizuno boot. Paying ~30% more for that is a no brainer for me.

The sole plate was scratches and had dents after one game. probably stones in the pitch but expecting it to be tougher considering it’s price.

I always check reviews from SR4U & Unisport. And found them to be accurate. In the form of the vapor 14s, best lockdown and fit I've ever had.
Moving along to Mizunos. I wonder for the non MiJ versions. Which provide the best overall and heel lockdown? Does the Alpha elite have a better fit and lockdown compared to the Morelia Neo 3?
Any of you can comment on this? I tried the Morelia 3 Beta Elites, and boy did they give me the worst blisters at the heel area which I could never break into.
Hello mate. Hopefully not too late with my response but just like you I had neverending blisters in the neo 3 beta elites and I'm someone that never gets blisters nevermind after break-in.
With the alphas however, none at all. Barely even any pain on first use at the heel.
Was waiting for Josh to review the Phantom GX before actually buying them, but now they're sold out everywhere, I want to die T.T

Holy hell this is by far one of the best decisions ever so far. My last speedboot was the adizero f50s (2014) and this is if not close, better than that!

Bought these AG plate $250 usd. Best boots i have ever had. Responsive, comfortable, amazing feeling on the ball.

I think MIJ version would be too much and overprice while the normal version still deliver the same value so better to seek the regular one and enjoy mizuno benefit
I bought morelia for indoor turf and the insole is very uncomfortable and moves around. I tried to change it and still has an issue and gives me blisters. No more Mizuno for me TY
Mizuno is known for their boots for FG/AG use, and their MIJ durability and quality. The TF boots they make are not a good barometer for their strengths as a brand.
My phantom gt were very tight in a size 9.5 so I ordered a 10.5. Did I make a mistake?

I can understand people who say that the price isn’t worth it on these, and if that’s your perspective I can’t argue with it because it’s a legitimate point. This is one of those things where both sides have a valid argument.
As for me, I’m a big fan of the smaller football boot brands (New Balance, Mizuno, Asics, Pantofla d’Oro etc), therefore I consider it worth it to support when one of those companies does something outside of their comfort zone, like this Alpha here. If these companies see that these new ideas are supported, they’re more likely to try new things and offer different, interesting products; instead of offering the same old thing, no matter how good it may be. So as for me, I’m getting a pair.
I get what you’re saying but NB, Mizuno and ASICS are NOT small brands. We consider them to be small in the world of football boots globally, but these are all huge companies when it comes to other sports. Made in Japan, in much smaller quantities than the average football boots means something for sure, but I still think they shouldn’t be that much more than alternative “speed” boot options.

But regardless, yeah like I said if the price is that much of a deterrent to someone, I can’t argue with that. Like you said it’s the objective vs the subjective. Objectively, I understand that these boots don’t offer anything extraordinary compared to other options. Subjectively though, I’d prefer to support a company that puts out something like this, in the hopes that they continue and are more willing, to experiment with new designs and technologies in football boots, ON TOP of what they already excel at, which is comfortable k-leather football boots.

If you can buy directly from Japan it's only around $165usd, the price diff is ridiculous. Bought 2 pairs with 1 half size down and see which one fits better.

$320 for a synthetic boot that Mizuno spend $50 bucks to build. Dissapointed Mizuno got rid of the K leather. I would prefer buying a synthetic/knitted boot from Nike or Adidas that I can buy at a discounted price.
They didn’t get rid of K-leather, they still have the Morelia II and the Morelia Neo III β.

The stand alone tongue is having me consider these boots. Idk how everyone has grown to accept the one piece upper on most boots today. I usually buy older models to play in boots with a tongue.

Elite is best value for money, the best option unless you are rich. Elite version feels the same and is spectacular but has a slightly different synthetic
You mean to say that this new model, the alpha replaces the rebula? This is very disappointing and a baffling direction to go for mizuno. My understanding was that the rebula was the marginally heavier but perhaps slightly firmer boot that offered better feel for the ball and the ground etc with a different sole plate when compared to the morelia models which were their "speed boots". Also, rightly so both of those boots are (were) offered in k leather which I think is appropriate.
Now you're saying they've replaced their control boot with another speed boot (I question why this is necessary) that's only available in synthetic material. Makes no sense... and I agree that the very expensive MIJ version of this new model is not worth purchasing. What a waste of money.
Once again seems like the elite version (made in vietnam) is more worth to buy rather than the MIJ version

@@rafaf898 can confirm elites are good. I have tried MIJ unless U pro or have a lot of money to use there's no need elite feels just as good and I use them 3-4 times a week with 1-3 games a week and its pretty reliable.
@@rafaf898 I considered buying the MIJ version if only there really is a significant difference, for example on rebula 2 and 3. If it's not, for me the elite version is good enough and worth it for the budget
Never understood why price is an issue with these boots. MIJ models are known to last 50% or even twice as long as top tier boots from other brands. Paying 30% more for that is a bargain.
Love the look of mizuno, but checks over anything
Everyone bangs on about how much this weighs and how much that weighs but at the end of the day it won't make you run any faster.

2018 is forgettable. None of the brands make colors or pattern that reminds you of the World Cup.
All these prices are robery for synthetic material futbol boots.
It is unfortunate that California customers can’t buy the Alpha because apparently, according to Mizuno USA’s website, the product contains K-Leather??
😮 I just saw that on the Mizuno 🇺🇸 website and it does say that, they even doubled down in the Q & A section when a person asked why they couldn’t buy them in California since they’re made of synthetic material. It’s only the Mizuno website that says that though; California customers can get them from other websites.
Mizuno's website has quite a few errors with the Alpha, they wrote the Elite version has a Karvo insert, which it doesn't

Imho NIKE's designs overall (running, football ⚽ etc..) are becoming really obnoxious. Their modern designs of their shoes and apparel just scream "look at me!!". I will pass thanks.

@@markmononoke7672 There’s several colorways that don’t have the big AIR logo: Bonded pack, CR7, and SE. Also, the logo on the Shadow pack colorway is very subtle almost invisible.
Definitely not buying these. Mizuno is an expert in working kangaroo leather, and even if they were experts in making synthetics, buying any synthetic boots for over 200 is insane. Synthetics are insanely cheap to produce

I just bought this Alpha Japan and the synthetic material on this boot is very different to what you usually get on the Mercurials, Phatoms, Xs etc. It's much more supple and soft, almost leather-like. It's really comfortable. I already have the Mizuno Wave Cup from 2019 made out of cow leather. But I got this Alphas for under $200 as I live in Asia

I have this. Best speed boot ever IMO. Comfortable like leather. Hug but not squeeze. I know it is 320 but will out last 250 nike or addidas 3 times.

I really disliked the tongue of this boot. It keeps folding and forms a massive pressure point. I also bought the Mercurial Vapor Elites and I prefer them so much more. Much more comfortable, way easier to get my feet in too and they feel much more like socks.
