hello! here’s another video about a weird game you probably haven’t played! thanks for watching my stuff, and i hope you have a lovely holiday season. (also i tried holding the mic this time, not sure if i’ll stick with it but i’ve been in an experimenting mood lately)
nice video, would you consider trying to learn to play the piano
Thanks for the video, Yakko! You have been my favorite content creator for years now
@BOOMBO11 im secretly hoping this is a gentle nudge to Yakko that there isnt a proper appreciation to ProjectMoon games. It's a vague, naive but genuine hope.
i played and agree. fun game, rapidly became boring and seems useless to play (similar to those resident evil multiplayer games)
exo primal has no content only 1 game mode and fihgting bosses (the actual fun part of the game) is random and you can go hours without seeing one. and the pvp can be fun but very unbalanced as they focused balance for the pve and you also have to slog through the same repetitious pve to get to the pvp and then you might not even get the type of pvp you enjoy and most of the pvp is also pve (nothing quite as frustrating as losing a 1v1 pvp encounter cus you had 2 raptors chewing on you and they didn't)
so conclusion:
if you enjoy pvp too bad you have to do pve to get to it
if you like the pve great but you will run out of content fast
if you like to fight giant raid bosses good luck ever getting the boss fights to roll
fixes that would get me to play again:
they need to add a matchmaking selection that lets you enter queue with players of >x level
and a mode that is just boss fights like i wouldn't even complain if they made it random what boss you get but just a mode that can only roll the boss fights would be amazing
(same thing with pvp)
"I like playing as the big dinosaur"
We all do. If only more games let you play as the big dinosaur
When will developers learn that killing dinosaurs/monsters is the least interesting thing you can do with them
WHERE IS MY GOD DAMN DINOSAUR OVERWATCH AS THE DAMN DINOS???? HMMMM???

Hello friend. Have you heard about this game called "Evolve"? Hmm actually never mind, I said nothing!
@@__-be1gk that's the reason people still like tanks the vehicles

Those cooler gamemodes being locked until you progress the story further sounds cool in theory but that alone turns off a lot of newer players from wanting to push on from the first few hours if they arent aware of it and eventually, its gonna be really hard finding players in the cooler gamemodes if too many people dropped the game too soon.
That and the first few hours are ass, had the whole game been fun including the beginning modes people might have actually just unknowingly played longer.
I definitely shook my head when I heard that part in the vid. How are yo going to lock that stuff behind progression without ANY hint that's what's up ahead? And worse yet, no ability to progress either by choice, not getting to progress at a slower rate if you're not doing your objective(s), or have you unlock it by doing the slow progression route then doing a solo/queued up mission for it (and filling with bots if not enough players are around).
Making things far worse is needing that 3rd party account at all. Unless that was a growing pain deal and they've since patched that out.
This, i played during a free weekend and there was nothing to even say that there was more content to unlock, i wouldn't mind having some things locked to begin with if you at the very least knew there were things to be unlocked new players shouldn't have to look to google to find out if there is more than 1 map and 1 game mode
I think I have 45 minutes checked into the game. I wish I could've got a refund.
All I wanted is a Dino Crisis remake. That is all.
I think that one of the problems was that when the game was showed and the people saw: CAPCOM, red hair lady and dinosaurs you automatically think Dino Crisis and Capcom knows how much we want a remake or another game...it felt like a bad joke. Great video!
Literally felt like they dangled the carrot in front of us, just to shout SIKE and pull it away from us😔
@@coreycarnegie5990make it with the resident evil 2 remake engine
It would likely be on the REX Engine since that is what they are moving forward with. Which would be fitting honestly given the namesake. @@johnlawful2272
Main reason why I refused to play this game
I played this game for a good while man like probably 20 plus hours and it still has some of the highest highs I have experienced in recent multiplayer. Running over to the enemy teams payload to blindside them with deadeye's ultimate was incredible. When every piece of exoprimal clicks its phenomenal, it just sucks that it hits that sweet spot like 15% of the time.
This game feel like it might be a prime suspect for a 2.0 F2P update in like a year.
I hope so cuz your 100% right, when exoprimal hits, it HITS. But it only hits 15% of the time.
Yeah it had really good potential for pop-off moments, and the pure PvE modes just could never deliver that, but as you can see in this thread, generally that's what people who tried the beta wanted. Because they wanted a different game than what this game was basically. Like, I have complex thoughts on the dominator other than I think controlling a dino is pretty cool, but the fact that you'd interact with the other team, deliberately try to sabotage them while balancing defending your own thing was what made the game even remotely interesting. There was no challenge to actually clearing the dinos if it's your team's only focus, the challenge was when your team was spread thin because they were fighting other players.
Not a lot of people mention it, but I was coasting along watching the hype train as I waited for this to come out. I knew what it was, and I was genuinely excited for what it was. And Capcom did an absolutely horrid job of explaining what it was. So many people didn't know, there were questions everywhere, and the general state was confusion and a total apathy to do one's own research. And for goodness sake, with this hamstring already nipping the game...they came to a preview event with a "battlepass trailer." Instead of, you know, "Hey this is overwatch but with dinosaur killing before the player killing." As excited as I was for the game, I instantly saw that battlepass trailer and went "oh no this is going to be dead fast...am I going to waste $60 on it anyway..?" And I did and it was a ton of fun...but yeah. They messed this up real, real bad. Which is truly a shame because it's such a fun and good game. It just buries itself under it's problems and the absolutely concern-inducing furious drive of the devs/publisher to make this live service.
What kills me too is in many places I've looked (especially the hellhole that is Twitter), I just see either complete praise for the game or utter apathy for it and its devs. I also bought the game when it came out as the premise of A) fighting dinosaurs as well as massive hoards, & B) cool robots (w/ pilots inside) completely sold me, and then proceeded to pump a good 90-100ish hours into it on steam. While I'm taking a break from it right now with the intention to go back in once the MH collab drops, it's just a bit disheartening to me personally that people are in all kinds of camps about it. But I know what I bought into and what kind of place the game was going to end up in based on all the feedback people have been giving since the start.
@@Waffersforever I still hope they can turn it around but I doubt it.
I don't think they are putting in enough content to make this game worth playing for an entire 3 month season. They should make the seasons really short like Overwatch does or just give us way more content each season.
you absolutely nailed it. it's the same reason no mans sky suffered on release too
14:54 i guess we can now safely say that this issue has been alleviated as of the recent Season 3, where you can now see the exosuit's abilities from the hanger menu
In the first trailer we've got time travel, dinosaurs and a redhead protagonist. A lot of us assumed that maybe a Dino Crisis reboot is in the works. A lot of us old fans were upset when it turned out to be an another online shooter
I came searching for this comment. Weird he didn't mention how they basically trolled an entire loyal fandom of one of their games for a campy multiplayer shooter.
Not even when he listed Capcom franchises and dodged Dino Crisis...
This! This!
I personally swore I'd never touch this game because of it. There is a very real demand for Dino Crisis to return, and as a result this felt like a slap in the face. Especially when it was confirmed a new Dino Crisis game was canceled pretty recently. I really feel like they took the remnants from that project and remolded assets they had to fit one of the newest trends.
@@ScanovatheCarnotaurus would you rather all that time and effort just *poof* gone with the wind?
@@marxxplaysgames This game feels like an insult so maybe
In my opinion Exoprimals greatest issue was the replayability. I thought the rush to complete the pve sections to get a head start in the pvp section was really fun, and choosing the best exosuits to play based on my teams composition and the types of Dino’s that would be present (for example, Barrage is excellent for tanky dinos like ankylosaurus, meanwhile Kreiger is great for hordes of smaller dinos.). However once I completed the story (which I thought was great) and maxed out my favorite exosuits there wasn’t any reason to play the game. Sure there was the savage gauntlets which I think are really fun, but those are only for two days in a week, and when they’re the only postgame content it can get boring fast. I’ll definitely see if it’s worth it when the title updates are done, but until then there’s other games I’d rather be playing.
Thank You! This is exactly it!
I wish this game either was a Solo experience or a PVE multiplayer. I hope get Dino Crisis at least
Something about the payload race mode is that, it used to be like what you wanted. The city payload mission had both teams start at the coastline and push up to the museum, resulting in a lot of Vigilant and Nimbus harrassing over the coast from atop their payloads, with stuff like Murasama and Zephyr rushing down to push them out from behind tank shields, and then more closer ranged skirmishes as they pass by the openings between the buildings. It was a lot more directly engaging, but then they just outright removed that varient? And then to add insult to injury, made it so that whatever team arrives second on it is forced to be on the coastline giving super easy access for the team ALREADY IN THE LEAD to rush over to their payload and do a cheese teamwipe with Roadblock or Nimbus ults.

If Exoprimal was a single player / offline game, I’d have been totally interested, but it being online only absolutely killed the idea for me, I’ve not even bothered giving it a proper look.
I would tell Capcom to keep the assets and maybe build something even cooler
Sometimes I wonder with these games how "easy" it would be to turn them into a decent singleplayer/co-op game.
Like a Dino Crisis lmao
The "Live Service" thing feels kind of an afterthought, almost. Like this was designed to be a unique PvEvP-type game, with a cohesive story happening in the background, but Capcom got their executive grubby hands on it and added enough microtransactions and bonuses to muddle the meaning of the game.
In other news, remember what happened to Battleborn?
Thankfully Capcom has heard some of the issues that people have and have made some changes. Most notably in the upcoming season 4 update in mid April, you'll be able to create a lobby and play those special raid missions. You also get xp and campaign progress while doing it. Which is a big win and something they should of done a long time ago
"Imagine being invited to a banquet and when you arrive there isn't much food set out and what you do try is good if not a bit average. Still being a bit hungry you go for seconds and find that the attendants have set out more dishes that turn out to be better than what was originally out. Curious to see if it'll happen again, you go for thirds only to find that the attendants have hidden all the good food because someone new had showed up. On a completely unrelated note, have you heard of Exoprimal?"
Just wanted to add that the vocal theme “Exohuman” at the end was made by Cassey Edwards, THE SAME GUY WHO MADE THE VOCAL SONGS FROM DEVIL MAY CRY 5
As a Overwatch fan, Dinosaur Nut, Singe player adventures, and coop...TAKE MY MONEY.
thanks for the Christmas present - this game seems really cool and refreshing, would be awesome to see another game like this just more fleshed out- though it is mostly unlikely:(
I just want lost planet back...
People have been begging for the ice age co op starship troopers game forever, or just never heard of it, but genuinely there was so much potential that this game seems to potentially tap at, while not serving some of the people who adored it.
this! or remake lost planet 2. exoprimal is so boring man.

I absolutely love this game, even the PVP side. I just feel like Capcom didn't really do a good job marketing it and it's suffering as a result.
You should try the game it's blatantly ripping off; Warframe!
They marketed it a surprising amount, they failed to tell people that the content they played the first hours was nowhere nearly the full amount of it.... and probably shortening that starting up period really.
@@danxol9588 This, they hiding the rest of the multiplayer modes behind pve progression is one of the dumbest design decisions I've seen. It's like popping a Halo game, going to the matchmaker and seeing only two gameplay modes are available only for the game to tell you that you first have to complete the campaign in order to unlock the rest. They alienated most of their playerbase because of that and they even didn't know there was more to the game because there wasn't a single prompt that stated that was the way to unlock more content.
If I were they I would have patched the game so all the pvp modes are available out of the box.
It’s not the marketing man, the game is a mess, it’s not a well made game, sure it has some fun moments and ideas but it’s not a good pvp or pve or pvevp game
"You can't spell exosuit without 'U and 'I'".
Truer words have never been spoken by an advanced artificial intelligence (AAI for short).
Everytime I see someone chill looking at this game, I ask them, "What do you think this could have become if it was a EDF like game?"
> "They wind up in an all-too-early grave."
> *shows Spellbreak*
Yeah, that one... that one still hurts.
I honestly really love the game, its a combo between mostly pve with a bit of pvp at the end, bit like destiny 2's gambit mixed with l4d2 versus, its weird and nothing is like it
I expected more PVE than PVP. It is a decent game at the core, but it has immense flaws that keeps it from succeeding.
Game looks really good though. I admit, I did play it on Gamepass, so I saved money on it. PVE raid moments really start kicking in after 10 hours or so.
Didn't have a lot of variety in game modes. It was a DPS check simulator in the end.
Did play really early. Don't know how it is now.
it is primarily pve tho...
Yakko not talking about the game's music until the last minute of the video... Almost got scared for a moment there.
Why'd it flop?
People wanted dino EDF, capcom gave them Overbotched.
Pure co-op and story would have been the way to go, it could have been a big deal.

I know it's been said many times. But all my group wanted was a L4D game but with dinosaurs. We would have been happy. We stopped after only doing a few matches.
"you can see what your abilities do" ignores the training area that you can play even locked characters to get an idea for.
At the very least he's pretty much the only reviewer to actually beat the game XD
I mean hell even when you go I to the menu of one of the suits on the top right there's a clickable box
It’s because we didn’t want Exoprimal, we wanted Dino Crisis.
Me and my friends started playing exoprimal near release and we enjoyed it. It didn't cost us much because we played it on gamepass. The game felt like it was trying to have a very arcadey experience until the savage gauntlet. I can also imagine capcom REALLY wanted the game to be freetoplay. But it was worth the money we spent on it. It deserves more credit imo. My main gripe was it not having crossplay even though you HAVE to sign into your capcom account.
Shout out to the Thank You Scientist - Terraformer album cover in the background, absolutely amazing album. Wrinkle and Chromology are 10/10 songs.
I think that sometimes Capcom just decides to create essentially a high effort survey. The make something with a bunch of random stuff in it. It’s as much Experiment and Research as it is a Product to offset those costs.
Exoprimal is the exact kind of self-indulgent jank that I love, but I'm really struggling to put down $60 on this game knowing it's time is probably limited... I'd get it if it had a single player mode but it's hard to want to get something I may be unable to play after a year
Unrelated to the video (will still be watching it afterwards dw): I know you really liked the idea of good 3d platformers given your video on Spark 3, and I think it might be in your interest to look into "Rollin' Rascal." The demo came out a couple weeks ago and it looks outstandingly promising. You may have already seen it, and you only post once in a blue moon so who knows if you'd ever come back to read a comment like this, but i figured i might as well bring it up anyway.
So listen, that ending gave me goosebumps, yeah, the guy with rose tinted sunglasses too, yakko ending this year with this video would be perfection
Downloaded the game for Dinosaur Left 4 Dead, gave up after being forced before every game to listen to Leviathan for a full 2 minutes and getting destroyed by an entire team running the same class to one shot the dominator - the dinosaur killing was 10/10 though
in warcraft 3 custom there use to be a fun pvp and pve custom game where it was pretty much wave survival. you could summon and use other things to make the other team lose without directly fighting them. It was about who lasted, not a race to see who won first. The game mode could keep going even after the opposing team lost or you could try to reach the end with just your team. Its unfortunate that this dinosaur game was a little lost in its initial concept.
I was mad that it wasn't a remake of Dino Crisis
I bought this on sale earlier in the year and actually found it to be surprisingly fun, maybe it's because I don't really play many multiplayer games so I don't have vastly superior games to compare it to lol, but it wasn't the complete mess a lot of people were making it out to be, there's fun to be had there and I can definitely recommend checking it out if you see it on sale, even if I can't recommend it at full price.
This was fantastic. This kind of video is why I subscribed. Even the overall references to Sonic Unleashed, likely because its another weird game with two very different modes smashed together and you don't actually understand how cool it is until you just play the game for a few dozen hours. Even the dinosaur joke you made at the end and the outro, man. Keep doing what you do man. Fan who used to live in Indiana
Please play and review fear and hunger, its a very wholesome and enjoyable experience with a deep hidden lore, and it kinda fits the aesthetic of this channel perfectly
Destiny 2's Gambit mode got a dinosaur update? Sweet!
Same, I played Exoprimal for a short while but PVP got so old, wanted a horde mode so bad.
So instead of a Dino crisis remake they gave us an overwatch clone. Yikes.
"Yikes" indeed

from the reveal trailer I was expecting EDF but with dinosaurs, it wasn't and I was dissapointed, then I learned it had PVP and lost all interest completely.
Time travel, dinos, and a redhead.. you know what you're doing Capcom. Now make the fucking game!
Exoprimal was surprisingly good and reminded me of a game from the late 90s/early2000s. It was nice to see a larger company try something new and totally ridiculous. Everything was so over the top and "American cool"
i played more than hundred hours in this game, loved it, loved the cheesyness, love the dynamic fights, love the exo design, shame that it did not fight theyr players
This game is so good like bro people hate on it for no reason like is phenomenal and half the cosmetics are free you just gotta play and there is basically no glitches it’s good.
We would play a Capcom game involving dinosaurs it's called Dino Crisis and that's I think a point you're kind of missing is it people are mad at this game because instead of making a Dino Crisis or Hell a remake of the first one they opted in for a live service game and it stings extra hard when you see that one of the characters the chick with the red hair resembles the main character from Dino Crisis Regina and you can't tell me that wasn't on purpose.
This game is criminally underrated and it deserves so much more. Its such a joy to play!
Yep 100% true
True, most hate comments I see are from people who either hate it just to hate it, or from people who didn't even really give it a chance (and by that I mean like, watch some lore and fight the first boss).
I was imagining a very different game before clicking on this video and I'm kind of sad it doesn't exist now.
I thought it was gonna be like Left 4 Dead with dinosaurs and exos, then it turned out to be a linear objective grinding game with forced combat at the end of each match
At least we get another Casey Edwards song... oh and people get to talk about Dino Crisis judging how the Capcom survey went down
Ya know what I love about Monster Hunter World? You can play it offline.
As someone who was ADDICTED to Gambit in Destiny 2 (neglected a game mode though it was), THIS GAME HAD ME IN ITS CLAWS.... But only because it was on Gamepass. The moment I tried to get friends to play it, they would see a $60 price tag and go "I can't afford that for dino gambit" and this game needs players DESPERATELY.
Also, yes please let us skip the fucking MAGNUM MISSION. I never left the thing cuz I felt bad to leave newbies to the boss fights but hoo boy that killed my momentum
People don't leave because of the Magnum mission.
People leave because they see Deadeye mains, which amounts to being the coolest kid in math class.
Which amounts to nothing and fuck all.
the only thing I know about this game is how everyone was dissapointed it wasn't Dino Crisis lol
I played like 3 games and it was so scuffed, nothing had any impact and it was very clear nobody knew wtf was going on
24:00 Rathalos found its way into the wrong game lol
dude really did Omega Strikers like that in the intro... yeah fair the devs announced its end as well.
Why wasn't this built as a Lost Planet entry? It shares borderline parity with what that franchise was/could be

*the fun anthem* hey i love when japan is like "lets get stupid" with infinite budget, it aint perfect but i love the effort behind this game.
Based thank you scientist wall art in the background
Exoprimal should of pitched itself as a dinosaur Earth Defense Force
How this game didn't get a single player campaign aspect with the crazy premise is beyond me. I played it on a free weekend, it was really fun but I don't like spending money on multiplayer or live service games. Every single one is a ticking clock, they will all die eventually, but offline single player games or modes will live forever.
played around 70 hours of it. I was eagerly awaiting for the gauntlet, you know, mission for players that already beat the game, a real challenge. no more payload babe. They took a couple of weeks to deliver after launch. I thought let them cook, they got us. Then it dropped and it was a less than 5-minute mission with a couple of t-rexs. Expectations were not met that day.
Tbh, i never knew about Dino Crisis, but seeing the initial teaser where a group of 5 goes against a literal tidal wave of Raptors, I was excited to have another Left 4 Dead/Killing Floor type game where you just mow down waves of enemies while going from Point A to Point B with all the crazy shit happening. I saw the website showing off the first 3 heroes, and just thought "Damn, Left 4 Dead with Hero Shooter abilities? This is a game i wanted for years!"
I never pre-ordered the game and joined the beta tests, but i watch Max Dood playing the game and just seeing all the awesome set pieces in every campaign map and then.... "What? It's PvP?" I thought it's a special gamemode like, Versus but turns out it's the main gamemode. I was immediately quite dissapointed with it but i held hope that PvE is gonna be a mode at some point. So there's the release day, nobody is seen playing any PvE mode, nobody really knew if there's anything else other than the first map, because for the most of the first week, all everyone sees is the same 2 maps, the same objectives, the same payload, the same last minute fight for the win, it's just stale.
I was really hoping to finally buy the game if it had what i wanted, but turns out i already forgot about it. Seeing this video reminds me of Exoprimal existing, and seeing that the actual PvE content is locked behind a 10 hour timewall is kinda sad.
I do suggest getting there, it's pretty fun. Plus all it takes is a casual match here or there when you're bored.
Though I did find I had the most fun when I was listening to the lore bits in between matches.
exoprimal is like if earth defense force was an actual game and not just asset dumping
when i heard the game was going to be a live service, i noped out of it straight away and totally forgot about it, this i s the 1st time I've seen anything about it since.
just give us Dino Crisis already...
Tbh, when I saw exoprimal, it just made me think "wow, I can fuckin kill dinosaurs. What do I do next? Kill more of the same dinosaur! Do you see this? It's a random ass portal dropping random ass velociraptors in the middle of a city with zero fucking context!" Gotta be the weirdest plot device I've ever seen. Why couldn't Capcom like, idk, make a darkvoid remake/remaster?
I seriously wanted to play until I saw the pricetag and I was like.... yeah no.... We have Dino Crisis at Home.
the biggest turn off for me, it feels like a free to play live service game that they want you to pay full price for.
If the game was a single player story driven action Dino Mecha thing, I would play the hell out of it.
I called it in beta, but this quote is starting to have new meaning:
"This game is better than it has any right to be."
The first time I saw this, I thought the same thing as a lot of people - *Why didn't Crapcom just make a new Dino Crisis?!*
I think another thing that hamstrung the game was that people really wish it was a new Dino Crisis. Y'know that other Capcom dinosaur game that people wish would come back. I know it's unfair to judge the game for what it's not, but at the same time, I can't help but think "it would've been really cool to have a Dino Crisis in the vein of the RE remakes or RE Village" when I look at it.
I fucking love exoprimal, pvp is a bit difficult but still I love the game
I just slam my fist into my shield.
Fighting a Billion Dinosaurs falling through a blackhole sounds like this should be the greatest game of all time. Come on Capcom FF14-style-reboot this and do it right!
I never struggle to find players. Ever. Its on Gamepass on Xbox.
Capcom having a 6 year near perfect game streak only to release a mid game right before my most anticipated game of theirs (DD2) 😳
Watching this I remembered Crash Team Rumble exists.
Just... it exists.
Pvp definitely killed this game. Why in the world didn’t they have a separate horde mode is beyond me.
I mean they do actually have a horde mode but I really like how it flows, it is mostly pve with a little pvp at the end of the match, not constant pvp, its mostly pve
excellent, excellent analysis, yakko
that spellbreak scene hit me like a truck
this game looks like the fake game you see two seconds of somebody in a movie or tv show playing
You nailed my thoughts on this game to a tee. I grabbed this game when it dropped and grinded it immediately. The sudden campaign missions that dramatically changed the game were great... the first time through. Then nothing else happened after you finish it and I dropped it not long afterwards. Great video!
Social Hub, deeper skill trees with personailised builds. Less complex mods.
More skins,
A deeper campaign, with some new map missions, with some mechanic mix ups.
Horde mode, with progress.
1v1, rumble, tower mode.
All could have added more life and longevity.
Some more stuff to spend time in and get attached too. More a kin to an mmo 🤷🏻♂️
It is definitely such a shame that a really FUN concept was torn down by corporate live service demands. This game either needed to have seperated single player and multiplayer modes with a full price tag with all of the secondary monetization removed, or it needed to be made free to play from the start so it had a chance to stay active. You definitely speak on all the faults with the story and player progression here and its a shame that is a problem that was created only because the game is a live service and those progression issues do not suit that type of gameplay. Its like they created entirely new problems for themselves for NO good reason in a game that is so incredibly fun and could have easily been *perfect*.
The problem with this game is there is no feathered raptor. And that kills the experience to me.
This should’ve been a Megaman X IP, imagine fighting Mavericks instead of Dino’s, being a Maverick Hunter would’ve been BA
Played alot of this game when it first came out, got a couple characters to lvl20, plus the extra variants when those were released. Biggest problem with this game was lack of updates to content. I feel like i was a minority in that i actually enjoyed the pvp at the end of missions and was hoping they’d add a mode that focused more into that.
A rogue AI looking over combat simulation? A game that fakes being repetitive, and then shocking you in the late game with how deep it goes? Sounds like Armored Core 6. My personal favorite. I think I liked it even more than Elden Ring.
