Holy shit. I did not expect this to blow up so much. Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart. I just want to reiterate that this is just my personal experience and opinion. If you enjoy Overwatch 2, THAT IS COMPLETELY FINE. There will be things that we agree and disagree with but we need to be open to civil discussions and conversations if there's any hope of any of our feedback getting through. If people want this game to be taken seriously, it needs to be treated as such. Also, to be completely fair, there are bad takes from both 5v5 and 6v6 but that doesn't mean that we can't come together and compromise. For those of you who are commenting "Just stop playing and move on", sure I could but that's how products go stale and stagnate in quality. Some people are more passionate about things than others and don't want to see a product or experience they once loved to continue declining. It's like watching a close friend make bad decisions. Yes, it would be easy to just write them off as hopeless and move on, but who wouldn't want to see them improve? I challenge anyone with the sentiment of "just move on" to apply that same feeling towards something they are passionate about that they've been invested in for years. Once again, for everyone that watched this, whether you agree or not, I hope that it inspires you to be outspoken about your passion. Thank you for sharing your opinions and experiences. Thank you for the crazy support. Thank you so much. We go agane. "It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale." - Uncle Iroh (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
People that say stuff like that don’t understand the potential of the Overwatch concept. You won’t see people getting as mad at CoD being shit because the concept is so simple so people don’t get invested
I just wanna say thank you on a couple points. 1. You mentioning how there are some players trying to speak for the average player. I specifically remember Freedo himself in the early days of ow2 said things like “rose-tinted glasses” and ever since folks have echoed that from him. 2. Pointing out that some people wanna take going back to 6v6 is off the table when 5v5 was forced upon us. On the surface, to some it would make sense that the devs have invested too much into 5v5 now. Why go back? But they forget the devs ALSO invested a lot in 6v6. More years of balance and internal testing pointless due to a format switch. If the devs made the format change despite the investment in 6v6 why is it so hard now? Pride? 6v6 wouldn’t work now obviously with the current balancing. But if they did make the change, it would not feel all the much different than how things are now. Unless they made vast changes very quickly and then adjusted over time. That doesn’t even scratch the surface because role passives add another layer that ow1 didn’t have… I just appreciate someone else with a platform saying similar things that some of us in places like Reddit in the community are saying. Myself included.
You know what I miss? The cards at the end of the game. It was a minute where people could decompress and talk shit about the POTG with each other. Now you just see "tank diff" 2 seconds before the game unceremoniously boots you out. There's no space for randoms to feel like they're even part of the same game community.
Very few games at all nowadays keep you in a “lobby” if you will with other players there are far less opportunities to speak to and connect to randoms
Cards were also a decent way to tell who was the carry in the lobby. Even if I saw a mercy with a 80% kill percentage I was blown back a bit. Like damn she really was that annoying. Scoreboard is a different way to tell. However things like damage block isn't the same as when you saw that card post lobby.
That hits hard. I loved that, can't believe I forgot about it. I'd gladly vote for an enemy that kicked my ass, like a handshake. No invitation for community or positivity anymore :( just cold, dead menus that occasionally misalign text -_-

@@Real_MisterSir It's insulting... the increase of health pool, bullet size and hitbox was the last straw, as the dude in the video said, any goddamn McCree player can hit phantom head shots (even I can do it, playing on a goddamn couch), I've seen platinum Ashes hitting headshots like if they were GM, it's braindead. As a Doom player, it's extra infuriating because you have to deal with all the bugs and balance issues (as usual), then you get disabled by stuns on auto-aim. Mauga can generate the same damage by just holding two buttons... what kind of bizarre design is this? The easiest tank in the game can perform like the hardest tank with 10% of the effort, what is the logic of that?? I am done with this game, this time is definitive. Overwatch deserved so much better and so much more. I remember in 2017 and 2018 I feel in love with the characters, the lore and gameplay. Fuck you Blizzard.
it definitely has the potential to be the best game ever made and then a bad balance team started to make it worse and then it was all just downhill from there
“Fuck you blizzard” truly someone who has nothing else in their life. Gotta be personally mad at a company that has no idea you exist. Genuinely pathetic. Get help dude.
when the game is truly just a soulless cash grab at its core, it flows outward to affect everything. nearly everyone playing is either a newbie who's not yet aware of the issues, or a veteran who can't break their addiction and is dead inside
I think it comes down to gutting everything extra the game had going for it - worldbuilding, pve, cinematics, and so on - and replacing nothing of what was lost. I think that compounds on the fact that the balance team has little to no idea what theyre doing and the skill ceiling of the game keeps getting lowered, not to mention that even with all the content that's being added NONE of it really revitalises the game in a meaningful, positive way.
It feels empty because it is. Without a 2nd tank, 40-60% of the cast lost a majority of their diversity when it comes to their play styles, because of the less available defensive skills on the field. Overwatch 2 since it came out has forced 2 possible options. Build a team to separate and annihilate the enemy tank before yours goes down. Or play high DPS and high survivability soloists to overcome neutral easier. There is no dynamism to any fights at any ranks. It feels empty because we are playing a worse version of a CoD team death match.
@@conrad03 That's really true, I feel like a lot of toxic discussion about this game comes from people that are defensive about their addictions to it.

I first played overwatch during its last year when the game was at its “lowest point”. I’m gonna be honest, I had more fun in overwatch’s last year than I’ve ever had with overwatch 2
That means you never got to experience the glory years. It gets me when people who have played OW1 say that people that want 6v6 back have rose tinted glasses. The game started to go down hill when they went to a 2-2-2 format. Yeah you had some messed up games but sometimes youd get the 6 support comp and roll through the other or 5 tanks, 3 DPS 3 tanks etc and win against the 2-2-2 playstyle. It was fun being to play all three groups in a game. Now the 2-2-2 brought in more organized style of play which made it great in itself but the styles were more expressive with open que. This formed GOATS which in turned formed CLOCKWORK, and BALL metas to counter it. You'll never have a meta again where the soldier is the main healer.
@@soggybread749not only that but alot of the 5v5ers overestimate the strength of the arguments they have because ALOT of people don't care about the format as long as its fun combine that with the fact that alot of people who only played 5v5 are willing to try 6v6 because they never have or it'll be new to them
There are people that enjoy Overwatch 2 and that's fine. But for those of us who just want the game the enjoyed before to be dismissed as "nostalgia" is really disrespectful and unproductive. I just want the game I loved back.
This makes me sad... I got OW1 when it came out, I was so in love with the cinematics and the universe Blizzard was building there. I used to play all day long with friends, having fun with a game that had a lot of variety of playstyles. My aim sucks, but I didn't need it to play Tracer or Zarya and making a play that could turn the game around. I had to smart and have some game awareness. This was fun... Until it wasn't. When Brigitte came out the gameplay changed so much. I was never too much of a competitive player, I would play for a bit, get platinum and leave, but soon quickplay was becoming too annoying, having to play "meta" characters on QP was BORING. By the time OW2 was announced I had already given up. Scandals, dumb changes and a lot of promisses with no guarantee were enough to keep me away from the game and I'm happy I didn't waste my time. I still miss my time having fun with OW1, but I know that that game is not coming back. I'd say I wish Blizzard would just kill the game and make an animated series, but even the lore of the game is so messed up and broken that this would NOT be a successful show...
Yeah sadly the universe was the first on the chopping block, they cancelled all pve AND the story mode, original narrative lead left in the middle of ow2 development, new narrative lead was fired along with the whole pve team during the microsoft takeover. I don't think it will ever be more than a "competitive" pvp game.
@@1DanteadamS1 this is particularly sad when you consider that once upon a time this game was imagined as a FPS MMO with some PVP elements like WOW.... when I imagine what that game could have looked like with the mechanics we know of in Overwatch, I really think it could have been something special and the potential to be the biggest MMO even beating WOW... sadly we live in the worst timeline so we don't get good things
@@SchmelvinMoyville You can like the universe without liking the game. This is the case for a lot of people who watched Arcane and don't play League of Legends.
I went through the same exact process. I think it was indeed around when Brigitte was released when the "meta" of the game started sucking all the fun out of it. Developer neglect just amplified the issues. When OW2 was announced, at first I was hopeful based on what they initially promised, but when they pulled the stunt of rugpulling us I refused to give OW2 a shot. I knew exactly what they had done: They sold OW1 at a premium price with the promise of "free gameplay updates". OW2 was their way of weaseling out of this promise, restructuring the store and pretending that this was a sequel, while everyone could tell this was a patch for OW1 in disguise. What a shame. I even gave OW1 a chance towards the tail end of it's life-span and the game was simply not fun anymore.
Crazy how all of the overwatch copies revealed this year are 6v6. Other companies clearly saw blizzard fucked up and green lit their own versions in 2022.
A lot of OW2 fans make me feel like I'm being gaslit. Videos like this make me feel like I'm not crazy or misremembering. The lower skill ceiling and lack of expression in the game is so saddening
No, you're definitely not the only one who feels this way. It's a big reason why I made this video because I didn't want my own feelings to be invalidated nor anyone else who relates.
I'm convinced the 'rose tinted glasses' non-argument started with Blizzard and their NDA bound streamer team. I know for a fact they are told by Blizzard to sway the narrative in some way. When Mcree got his name change, every. single. time. A random person on the team of an official streamer said Mcree, the streamer goes "wHo'S tHaT?! oH yOu MeAn CaSsIdY".. For months until people slowly stopped calling him Mcree. The rose tinted glasses is gaslighting pure and simple. They don't know you, they don't know what aspects of the game you enjoyed, they have no idea. Yet they're telling you that you remember wrong? Those people need a good backhand to wake them up from their stupidity.
Agreed. I'd never heard of @KaiShinryu until I saw this video and decided to see what new thing people are complaining about. Had to subscribe when I realized everything I feel about the game was being put into words in this video. Dropping a tank was a drastic measure. I tanked in OW constantly. I stopped playing OW2 when I would solo queue for Flex and feel dread when I got Tank. I'd want to quit the match before it began. It was so rarely fun. I might be back to OW2 if they do double tank eventually. Split tanks into two categories. One person can pick a shield tank, one person can pick a brawler tank. I notice in your comments that a lot of Blizzard bootlickers are saying "6v6 wOn'T sOlVe EvErYtHiNg" which is exactly what you said in the video. Clowns. Clowns with big red noses and floppy clown shoes. Thank you for this video.

In my opinion the Overwatch team never understood what made their game different and unique. Characters like genji, tracer, ana, mercy, rein, winston offered gameplay loops that you cant find in other games. Instead of leaning into the things that made OW stand apart they leaned into characters like hog, soldier, cass that are not as unique and have similar gameplay loops you will find in other fps games. Overwatch was good because it was different but it doesnt seem that different anymore. PS immortality doesnt belong in this game unless its an ult
OW is good because the heroes are fun to play. Whether you find it fun to pop someone's head or counting cooldown in your head, both are valid. The argument of the moba aspect that "make" ow unique is so out of touch imo.
They have admitted in a prior interview that they stumbled upon Overwatch's success on accident so it would make some sense as to why they didn't know what direction to take it. I wish I could find the source of the information so I don't seem like I'm feeding wrong information but I believe it was said in a prior blog post.
@@Mephitinae soilder, hog, cass, all been here since the start and i would say their role in ow is pretty unique like soldier has the ability to constantly rotate, off angle and be fast but people see him as a cod character because of sprint and his gun but he has a unique gameplay loop, he really feels like a guerilla fighter and if you play him like it's cod you will throw you guys think bap is cod because he has a burst fire gun? i don't get where the cod comparisons come from, you still have to bait out and respect abilities and position and coordinate with your team in ow
the amount of creators no matter how big or small, that came out and vented their frustration about the state of the game is incredible and it really goes to show that the whole community is suffering. I recently discovered a workshop mod called "6v6 adjustments" (as well as a discord server with the same name) and it's astonishing how much more pleasant tank feels to play despite the limited changes they were able to make. 12 random people from a discord server with various ranks and ping, yet I've experienced less steam rolls and it feels like you have way more play/kill potential (especially on tank). If a couple of community members can make 6v6 work using only workshop tools blizzard has no excuse to not put it in arcade or as the default game mode.
There are a lot of streamers and pro players that streamed them playing those 6v6 PUGS and they all have a blast with it. I know the person behind making the workshop mode has said that there a things they literally are unable to change due to it being deeper in the coding like changing projectile size and damage reduction numbers.
Thank you so much on commenting about this! I totally needed this. I remember trying out the 6v6 ow1 custom game with a group of friends and had a few people that started playing ow2 and the people that played ow1 had to explained to them the heros old abilities. It was fun and coming back to 6v6
Your point about specialist content creators is so accurate and something few have brought up. The biggest content creators in OW1 were hyper specialist one tricks who were SO good at their heroes they could use them in 99% of games, which made for very interesting content. Now though your individual skill on a hero, even with thousands of hours, is not enough to overcome a random support backline.
I played 2k hours of hog, 2k hours of rein. I could push through GM / top500 lobbies by just being extremly good at my few select characters. I gave OW2 another shot, and it felt like no matter how good I was at rein, I was forced to swap. Not to mention the stupid changes to hog and other heroes.
I’m a DPS main that started in OW2 and I decided to pick up tank recently. Playing as a solo tank just felt bad, as a DPS if you hav a bad game you have a second to pick up for you so you didn’t feel as pressured. As a tank, if you’re doing bad you FEEL it. You have to be good or else your team is at a huge disadvantage and I just wanted to go back to DPS
This game feels like you’re watching it not playing it, when things are going well value is incredibly easy to get, mistakes are bailed out too easily and you almost can’t make a wrong play, when things are going bad you can do nothing, you get dueled by an unkillable tank, every person I get low is full health within a blink of an eye, play well or play bad you’re going to die. And then the well matched games still somehow feel like you can’t have any impact. In overwatch nothing was free, you had to go and get value. In this game value is given to you and your job is to not lose it.
Im obsessed with Overwatch vids like this. Overwatch lives in my head rent free. I just wanted double shield to disappear without resorting to 5v5. Monkey paw granted my wish. Blizzard is too prideful to revert the change
this is one of the first rants/video essays where i've seen a person approach the topics of the game objectively while not seeding their opinions in as a fact for every point. genuinely great video. 5v5 isn't the end of the world, but i think the game would be in a significantly better spot at a BASE with 6v6. they can add passives and innovate on that format, but in 5v5 it's just too difficult without committing a TON of resources and time. it's just not worth the investment with what we've seen thus far.
I'm baffled that this "sequel" removes most of the cool features from the first game and still insist it's an upgrade. I'm so upset that you can't go back to the original game anymore
Hey there, I’m an metal rank overwatch player, playing since very roughly 2018. as a casual player, that actually starts feeling the pain of overwatch 2 (whilst currently playing in low plat) wants to tell you, that the “the community” part of this video is probably the best summary of how OW2 feels now compared to back then in Overwatch 1. And funnily enough, I have to say that I actually would want the end of OW1 back (when it basically didnt even recieve any updates anymore..) since it felt better back then. Back then you could actually express your skill and be proud of yourself rather than being annoyed that your reaction time with your kiri suzu is to slow resulting in a lost fight for you xD Thanks for the video, as I said, this marks a very very good summary of the current state. have an awesome day!
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. Like I said, Overwatch has a bad rep in the gaming industry and to see the community fighting with each other when we all just want a better game is really disappointing.
I agree, I really hope blizzard is working on something. why ever, the dev team talks very very less about 6v6, a part of me really hopes for it to come back soon.. XD I am writing this right after a few games of Overwatch with my stack and holy moly, the power creep single tank is so broing to play against, no matter what support I play xD. Either I have to heal bot with kiri or I have to heal bot with Ana (what I personally pref because I can have at least some impact with the anti nade and it feels a lot less brain afk like) have a great time!
Ah you missed out on OW's peak. It peaked in early 2017 before Orisa/Doom/brig/bap etc. Those are the heroes that started the decline. Orisa too overkitted. Doom was the first who had a truly uncounterable ult as he dissapears completely (after 5 man rez was deworked out of the game that is), and well, you know the rest.
I’ve got 1,300 hours in the game, and I’m completely disillusioned by what it has become. This video captured most of my sentiments. I was optimistic when the sequel was announced because I imagined myself really loving PVE, but of course that’s scrapped in favor of battlepass. The subreddit seems to have fewer quality posts that helped me over the years, and is now primarily new players who are excited about the skins and have no clue how great the game used to be. I still occasionally hop on for a few matches (in quick play because comp is rife with cheaters) and am always reminded that I don’t enjoy the game anymore. It’s not for people like us now. It’s for the Fortnite generation who like grinding for emotes and skins. Time to move on, I guess.
@@Deusagaactually now that you say it, i just didnt miss out on it. i remember the first new hero that came to the game after I started was moria and when i remember correctly, moria came before orisa etc (even tho moria was quite special as well.. xD)
I think what feels off to me is that players aren’t really working together. Sure, a TON of OW1 games lacked team cohesion, but OW2 feels more like five people playing their own game in the same lobby. It’s so hectic and nonstop that I’ll find myself apart from my team constantly without even noticing that we split up. And then…the characters. What happened to the substance? Why is the lore nonexistent? The new heroes are fine, but who are they? Why did they join Overwatch? And for that matter, what does Overwatch even do? What caused the world to turn their backs on them? The (now standalone) story missions didn’t elaborate on any of it, and it’s been years. No wonder Michael Chu left; Blizzard gave him no room to tell the story! I’ve grown attached to my favorite heroes, but only because I can imagine my own stories for them. We need an actual story that we can sink our teeth into. (Also, as far as I’m concerned, the “Bomb Flats” thing isn’t canon. They took the funniest, most chaotic character in the game and gave him the least interesting origin possible.)
I think "Main Character Syndrome" has always existed in OW but is much more evident in OW2 since there's more emphasis on the individual to make plays. But just because there's more emphasis on individual play does not mean that it's easier and so when things go wrong, it is much easier to blame everyone else. When you lost a player in OW1, you could still scrap it out and try to flip the fight but when you lose the fight in OW2, unless the enemy team fumbles horrendously on the follow up, that team fight is pretty much over and people start pointing fingers. I have said this for a long time but Overwatch lore has gone absolutely nowhere. We have gotten so many cinematics but mostly just boil down to "Overwatch is back." This was the most egregious to me when Sojourn's cinematic came out because we waited so long for a new one just to be told the same thing we already knew years ago. Ramattra was the biggest wasted opportunity for expanding his lore because I find him to be such an interesting character. Illari to me is very boring and bland. I like Venture's personality because they're detached from OW and Talon but that's pretty much it. So yes, I 100% agree with you that the characters lack a lot of depth past their initial "quirkiness."
As someone very well-versed in this game's lore, there is a lot they could do here. I don't remember if the Blackwatch PVE event covered it or not. But the whole plot point of Reaper's war crimes while leading Blackwatch causing the UN to turn their backs on the organization as a whole was a very interesting angle. Adds a lot of depth to Reaper's character, I think, probably thinking he was "getting his hands dirty to keep the rest of the world clean" type of thing. Blackwatch's dirt being revealed forced the UN to create the Petras Act, illegalizing Overwatch activity entirely. I would like to see an animated short of Soldier: 76 interrogating Reaper about the war crimes, but that would be a very serious scene about a serious topic. Not the kind of thing wants to make your little kid-friendly Pixar animations about.
As someone who started from beta of OW1, it blew me away that a friend i made who only started on OW2 and had never played a shooter, got placed in master after a few weeks of learning the game in normals with me, playing mercy and barely understanding what the entire roster of characters could even do. Ive consistently felt like the game is just made easier and easier, but for the most part i was in and around people who started the game on OW2 so I was never sure if i was just being an elitist gatekeeper or blinded by nostalgia or whatever else they will make you out to be, but it is refreshing to hear all your opinions that i wholeheartedly agree with.

I think I'm done too. Usually at endorsement level 4 since OW2 started. This last season was so toxic and full of angry players, it started to affect me. First time ever in a game I got punished, getting chat restricted, from responding back to the negativity with negativity. It's so hard to have fun now, with everyone raging, abandoning games, throwing. And the bots. I was getting at least one botted game a day, where the char would walk forward til it hit a wall. Then would turn 45 degrees and start walking again. They would finish the game woth zero stats acrss the board, except their deaths
Same thing with me. First time I've also been warned in game cuz I snap back at people lol. Might be time to take a break or maybe find a game you genuinely have fun with, brother. I know it sucks giving up on the game but logging on to a game you know you're not gonna enjoy is awful for the mental. I'm playing a lot of single-player or co-op games nowadays. @@msm1984_ Botters have all sorts of reasons unfortunately. Sometimes its for some sort of personal gain, experimentation, or trolling. Trolling seems to be a common reason.
The "give-up moment" where they just raised health across the board is honestly one of the worst things they did. As a Genji player, it's just too hard to get a kill now, because my dash does a fifth of their health instead of a quarter. And the 110 blade damage is a joke. Why change breakpoints without changing the hero who needs those breakpoints the most?
I thought that was stupid too. EVERYONE needs more health??? Then you’ve done something wrong, that’s not fine tuning that’s just padding everyone to survive 😅
Really well said. I can tell you have hung around the online Overwatch debate sphere. You’ve learned the arguments, and honed them very well with your own experiences. Really like the characters I play, Ball, Venture, and Zarya. I’m not bad at the game, I’m usually in mid masters, but the balance has been infuriating. I play Ball, get counterswapped, and their Hog gets free value and one shots by existing. Kiri and Bap live my dives for an eternity since they both have two great defensive cooldowns and mobility with no cooldown. It sucks man, my solo killing potential is terrible. These supports do so much healing. How come I don’t get a dps passive? How come supports like them just have to wait 2.5 seconds for a passive heal? I could unironically kill things with ball easier when I played against double shield. Ball is also a big loser for counterswapping. I pop off one fight, then they lock sombra cass. Since I have no zarya or Dva to help, I have to play like a huge wuss to just stay alive. God I hate these characters that take no excecution, “just sit back and shoot”. Fucking boring. Nerf the supports passive by a few seconds so they can’t use it as a poking tool with little risk, get rid of the other passives, remove Hog, Orisa, Mauga, Widow, Kiri, Bap, Lifeweaver, and Sojourn. If OW2 didn’t kill OW1 I wouldn’t be as mad, but they took the game I payed 60 dollars for and gave me this trash
Dude, I saw Samito talking about this video. I really appreciate you talking through this. Makes me want to talk about my experience. I like how you are not angry, but simply wanted to say your piece. Well, said. I hope everyone who still plays the game is having a good time.
The most interesting part of all of this are the social dynamics, 90% of big content creators have somehow converged on agreeing not to admit this game is worse in every way, even after 10 seasons of lies and betrayal from Blizz. After all this mistreatment they would still rather malign and outgroup anyone who advocates for a return to the game we all loved.
So many of the large content creators are coping so hard with how the game is. I played Overwatch before Overwatch 2's release and something about Overwatch 2 immediately felt wrong and it didn't go away no matter what season ; What really felt bad for me was the lack of two tanks, the inflated damage & healing, and the inconsistent patches that seem solely based on numbers. It's so stressful playing as a tank to the point that I don't want to anymore, playing support is boring, and DPS is awful due to all these abilities that do too much or undo all the effort put in into actually eliminating a player.
this video was such a breath of fresh air man. we've had a very similar experience based on how you described yours in this video, and after years and years of passion, and closley following the discussion, im just at a point where i hardly care anymore. i miss my game, i play maybe once a week now if that, and when i do it's not even fun aside from just being able to use the characters who's kits and personalities i fell in love with. such a shame, and im happy someone as articulate as yourself is speaking up for those of us in the same position
It's insane to see the number of people leaving the game recently, and yet some people still try and argue that the game is in a fine state. I started playing Overwatch ranked in 2020 (when i got my PC) and since overwatch 2 launched i have never had as much fun as i had when i played overwatch 1. And this isn't exclusively a balance thing either, they removed the og level system, changed the UI, you can't see your rank in matches, (and i don't think they should have removed the option to see everyone's ranks in game since seeing someone's stats in arguably more toxic than seeing their ranks). To sum things up, I MISS OW :(
I miss it too, man. Give me back my border. If people enjoy it, more power to them, but I things are turning into end of life cycle OW1 again. Queue times are crazy, no one plays tank, etc.
Overwatch is not a competitive game, its a game with a crippling identity crisis that was shoved into esports before it was ready. The devs never cared to learn the game or let it develop on its own, rather they kept trying to force things in the strangest ways. If there was a problem, they changed the format even if it blatantly contradicted themselves in the past. Hero Stacking, Role Lock, 5v5, the game I bought was one where you were supposed to be flexible across the cast to swap what is needed, the game now is about maining a role. Just how many times does Overwatch need to hasitly try to re-invent itself before Blizzard realizes that they themselves were always the problem?
I've said this on many many OW videos I've taken interest in. When OW first came out, it was magical. A breath of fresh air for many people. The events, characters (even if lack luster) and gameplay were among the best in any game. The cinematics made me cry, the small lore details hyped me up, the events did a good job to get myself and others interested. But once they introduced Brig, things started to become bland, and rather boring. Then from there on only worse, and worse. Now OW is nothing more than any of those F2P games you see on Steam or mobile where there's some good there, but it's overly hungry for money and cares little for how the players feel. It's sad really. I'd give anything to have OW1 back in whatever capacity we had it. I'll take loot boxes back over the BP, I'll take the older versions of heroes. But that'll never happen. The game I fell in love with is gone.
This video really resonated with me. It's really heartbreaking for me to say but I'm making this comment to prove it to myself that I'm quitting as well starting today. Season 10 has become the nail in the coffin for me. While i was a support player, even though i knew for a fact my role was busted- it felt like once i became interested in playing Tank and DPS more did i realize how it truly felt for those who held these as their main role. Tank feels like a "get beat up simulator" and DPS feels like out of their massive roster only Hitscan heroes are viable. Hanzo, Reaper, Genji, so many fun characters have lost their identities and the fact i heard rumors of Reinhardt being reworked, it feels to me the deconstruction of what i loved about this game will only continue. I walk away from most of my Overwatch games feeling completely indifferent. I'm shocked i smoked so much copium for ten seasons believing it'll improve. I know I'm yapping but fuck, i really really loved this game. Now, i just wanna do anything but play it.
Your opinions and experiences are valid so don't downplay those. We just want what we enjoyed back. Even if it's just a limited time mode. I've taken plenty of breaks for long periods of time and the feeling is mostly the same when I return so I just don't want to set myself up for disappointment again. I may play it here and there if friends ask but I think the days of grinding out ranked are over for me.
characters like Genji or Reaper or Pharah or Sombra or Mei or Hanzo dont deserve to be viable characters. Its not fun to fight characters who have double jumping mobility, teleports, or invulnerability. Characters like Ashe and Cass are balanced heroes that deserve to be good picks that reward people for not using cringey abilities in a shooter game
Yea and they literally gave everyone bigger health pools instead of nerfing supports, because they're so afraid of public backlash to nerfs (as if they're any strangers to far worse backlash lmao)
I genuinely believe that the transition to 5v5 is because the engine can't handle it. Hell, even today in 5v5 the match will crash if there's multiple mauga ults amongst other ults off at the same time. Watching 6v6 pugs/custom games the match will go into slow motion at best and at worst will crash.
That definitely makes sense. I've seen the 6v6 PUGS and the slow mode you're talking about, but it's kind of odd. I think the person goes by CactusPuppy and they do a lot with the OW workshop and they recently revealed that OW2 still has 6 spawn points in the spawn rooms for both teams, so the foundation is still there.
I am thinking the same as well. Or it was just an overall cost saving on the hardware side going 5v5. Now your servers just have to fit 10 players into your lobby instead of 12. This small change prob saved Blizz hundreds of thousands on hardware cost for all we know.
That's a server/compute issue more than anything else. They are obviously using lower spec'd machines which would not support 6v6 in the same way. Any company would estimate for bare minimum to run the engines for each game with a bit of a buffer. If the game was doing well there'd be better servers prop'd to handle the load.
Your insight is really helping me discern why I fell out of Overwatch 2. I only started playing a year ago and uninstalled just over 100 hours. I amounted it to just not liking the competitive 5v5 style over more casual multiplayer formats, but that didn't stop me from pouring over 500 hours into Siege just a couple years before? One thing I can say for certain, I definitely didn't prefer the rock-paper-scissors style for playing tank. I generally enjoyed learning the other heroes and didn't mind counter swapping on dps roles, but for tank, I found myself feeling frustrated that the characters I WANTED to play weren't viable as soon as a couple people swapped. Hearing about it, a second tank would certainly be nice to employ a bit more flexibility and maybe alleviate pressure. Your information on what Overwatch 1 was like is really interesting too. I probably would have loved OW and played a lot longer if I had played it back then.
OW1 had a lot more ways to show how skilled you were at a hero. There were one-tricks back then just as there are now. Some bad but a lot of the times, those individuals were really good at those heroes, even if they were off-meta. Even if they weren't performing well, your other role partner could help alleviate that pressure and open up other opportunities to find value. If you get a one-trick now, you better hope it's a meta hero or else you're going to have to put in way more effort and lose anyway, or just giving it up entirely and go next. I played Siege for a good while also. The difference is that Siege doesn't have definitive roles like OW where you HAVE to tank or heal. There were kits in Siege that leaned more towards those role but for the most part, everyone had the same frag potential. In OW, you make one mistake and the team fight is over. OW doesn't have those clutch moments like you can get in Siege. I've been out of the loop of Siege for a while but for me, there weren't any operators that directly countered another. (I hope that's still the case lol).
Nice video, I really liked the "asymetrical" part, because it is so true. I used to play Evolve a lot, and one big monter vs a group of hunters was really interesting, but exactly as you said, if one side is weak, it gets buffed but then the other side becomes weak and it starts a spiral. Evolve died, and maybe it's for the best because the issue had no solution bcs of the format of the game. Here we have 1-2-2, where the one tank will never be balanced properly and the only way to balance it is at the cost of other roles. It has been over a year now, we've had all kinds of metas, almost the whole roster was meta at some point in time, we had reworks and different balance changes, yet the game was never as fun as OW1. When are we gonna acknowledge that we do not know the solution to the problem and start doing some drastic testing to fix it. Being completely silent about 6v6 makes it even worse, especially when there is such a big part of community asking for it, or atleast wanting to try it. And I am getting pretty sick of poeple telling the that actually I do have fun and I do enjoy this format more. I DON'T, so please can people stop telling me that I am having more fun now than in ow1? I think I can judge wether I am having fun myself.
It didn't help that Evolve charged like $15 a hunter/monster either lol but yes, asymmetrical format is practically impossible to balance. Your last point at the end is exactly why I made this video. Please, don't tell me what I am allowed to enjoy because at this very moment, I'm not having fun and a lot of people share the same sentiment. Thank you for watching and sharing your perspective.
This just showed up in my recommended, love the video, and I completely agree. I was very much like you, loved overwatch and played almost every day. Now I've moved on and the finals is my game of choice, I recommend you give it a try.
Going to be honest here...theres so much wrong with the game that wont even fix it. If they let 5v5 last this long, then you can be sure that they would just ruin 6v6 again.
As a fellow mediocre Overwatch Boomer, it's so cathartic to have a fine point put on thoughts that have been sitting at the back of my head for months. Thanks for making this video and getting this perspective out there.
blizzard compeltely sabitaged overwatch, they hate it the franchise, they hate the characters, the story, the lore, they only want skins to sell, ow had infinite potential, now have nothing
I liked 6v6, especially as an off-tank main, but I don't really care whether they go back or stick with 5v5. I just want tank to feel fun. Like you said the main things impacting that are counterswapping and "easy to play tanks". I think if doom/winton countered another tank it wouldn't be so bad since they take skill. But if you're being countered by Mauga/Hog/Orisa, they get immense value at their skill floors by pressing buttons. It doesn't help that they've made lots of things easier, like with hog instead of being a glass cannon, he can now vape/hook anytime he wants which reduces counterplay. There's so many cool incentives they could have for comp. E.g., every 50 wins, 100, etc you could get comp-exclusive: - Death stamps - Kill effects - Weapon skins The content of the game felt ok this season. Venture and Mirrorwatch felt fun, but I'd appreciate some transparency on big-picture things they're working on, like a clans or tournament system. Atm there's nothing to really look forward to.
As a former console player I am about to hit you with a light bulb moment. Its no secret that OW was designed as a pc game. However, when OW2 went f2p it removed the requirement for console players to have a live monthly sub in order to access multiplayer. Now all console players need is a internet connection. As a console player I am sure you can verify this through your own experience. What does this mean? It means that the bulk of the playerbase now resides on console. I am talking 75% or more. The devs obviously know this and you can see it in the changes to OW2 over the course of 11 seasons. The devs have redesigned OW to make it console friendly. The passives, the increased bullet sizes, more hp. It is a dumbing down of the game in order to compensate for joyustick play and lower framerates on console. Look at the heroes released post Queen and Soj. We don't count them because they were designed by the old devs and had been in works internally for years and years. I am talking about Mauga, Venture, Life Weave, Illari. They are simple designs that get value for free by pressing a button. It is a console design. This a now a console game with a PC port. What I am typing here is 100. I do not have a platform to spread this information but you do.
Could be the case, but OW1 had the most players on console aswell and it was fine and if they wanted to make it easier for console they could just increase aim assist no?
You made some valid points. I heard people are toxic in quickplay because they can't hack it in rank. They treat quickplay like rank because it makes them feel like a better player than they actually are.
Overwatch 2 cured my ow addiction, I find myself playing 2 games a on a good day, I just don’t care anymore. I’ll be moving over to marvels rivals among others, I’m glad I got to experience this amazing game at its peak. It’s been fun boys, ggs.
You get it, and to tell the truth, I think most people get it but they don't necessarily know how to express it. Classic heroes like Rein have those skill-based mind game interactions. While I think there's a lot that could be done to improve his design, there's no shortage of players who comment on how fun he is to play. He's fun to play against, too. Here's a hot take, but a correct one. Overwatch should never have had more than a handful of additional heroes added. The reason is that the core hero pool during development was balanced collectively. It's like baking a cake, you need to get all the proportions right. You can add icing on top after it's all done, but the core of it has to be carefully put together. You can't keep just adding more and more after you're done and think you can just "fine-tune it" to make it work. Right now it's a conflated mess that only ever results in, at best, empty victories and ego-indulging potgs, or at worst, violent frustration.
@@KhaiShinryu good on you. that's how you grow. But remember to pat yourself on the back from time to time for doing something right, or else that mindset can become damaging.
i think that if blizzard just, reverted literally everything that they did from overwatch 1 > overwatch 2, that the game would be significantly more fun, even if it is a worse product overall
Hey man, you're not alone. When you described your first experiences in OW it almost directly mirrored my same experience. I'll never forget the first group of friends I made way back in ow1 console and how we slowly fell apart over time switching to pc the closer ow2 came. I recently took a huge break from OW but I recently found an amazing new game to scratch that hero shooter itch. If you get a chance you should come on over to The Finals like I did with some friends. It has it's issues, but it's f2p an the developers actually care. Plus the new season is amazing an you can pull off a build that is crazy similar to old school Rein. Game has a lot of free takes on all the ideas OW managed to beat with a dead horse.
He had the exact same story as me, started on tank on console with a group, stopped playing around 2019, comes back ow2, switches to support, gets bored and goes to dps (where im at rn, in the hitscan phase). Except Im going back to tank now in hopes that they will bring back 6v6.
@@hazzaellis6739 So I don't mean to make this an effort post, but I have a lil conspiracy theory on why they will never/refuse to bring back 6v6. Hear me out. So all of Blizz's games have to go through Netease if they want to be playable in the Chinese market. Few years back they screwed this up an actually LOST WoW china region agreement an it hit Blizz hard. Both in the pocketbook an in reputation. Everyone lost all their characters etc. Blizz has been trying to get that Netease contract again ever since. Well, Marvel Rivals is developed by Netease. Blizz an Netease JUST signed a new contract allowing Blizz games again. Bet your ass that contract has a "no competition" clause in it. Marvel Rivals was first announced weeks after the new Netease contract, which was also the same week Flats interviewed the OW Devs an they told him "no 6v6 talk". It's my theory that they CAN'T bring back 6v6 or it risks breaking the no competition clause. Which you might say is dumb because they're both hero shooters or w/e, However team comp size is THE huge difference. To further back this idea up, that NDA Rivals streamers had to sign, the one that said "no negative talk" well it also had a very line as well that stated "no comparisons to other hero shooters, their game designs or their characters/abilities" So, I dunno man. It just all kinda adds up to me. But don't take my word for it, I encourage you to look into it yourself an come to your own conclusion. But why else chose THIS hill to die on? Shit dont make sense.
I played it a few times, at had some fun with it! But the game crashed on me a lot, even though I'm on a pretty solid PC so I got fed up with trying lol. I might give it another go. Also, thank you for sharing your story. Back during simpler times hahah.
I completely understand your feelings. I used to skip classes in 2017 just to play a few more ranked games to try to get to Masters. Nowadays, I only have fun because I have the luxury of playing with 4 friends. So we make our own fun. I miss the early days, the PvE events, the first season of OWL, the hype por new stuff on the PTR, content creators actually loving the game and not just bashing it, new heroes were headlines on newsites. I still really like the game, but I don't feel passion for it. Sadly. That warm feeling of playing a few games during the Winter Wonderland event with friends while the menu music was playing? Such a beautiful memory ❤ Great video!!
Bruh the engine was literally not built for 5v5, the game was fundamentally broken when the devs switched from 6v6, anyone who thinks otherwise is either ignorant or never played original OW. Surprise, surprise a lot of the people advocating for 5v5 are dps players who have no idea how the game worked to begin with or new players (vast majority) who just never played the original. We had it good.. Rip to OverWatch..
There's a person who does a lot of Workshop game modes and they revealed that OW2 spawn rooms still have 6 spawn points coded so the foundation is still there.
@@gamoxu Honestly, could you explain your reasonings, because telling me you’re a tank main since “17” isn’t really an explanation. I was a Tank/Support main since “16” and I can tell you 5v5 is obviously not working. One reasoning I believe this is because of balancing, why do you think the devs are struggling so hard to balance the game in its current state, especially with tanks, either being too strong or (currently) too weak. Roadhog (was my main), I believe is a great example of what I’m talking about, in original OW he wasn’t perfect but with another tank he was a great flanker who didn’t need the support of his second tank, on the launch of OW2 they had to over tweak his kit and he became way to powerful and way to good at what he did as a flanker, Roadhog was not designed to function as main tank. Currently tanks are incredibly weak due to over balancing to compensate for the two missing players (tanks), and they’re trying to shift this power dynamic to dps as a result of that categories popularity. There are many other factors and examples, and I have so many other reasons why OW shouldn’t of switched to 5v5, but my main point being that balancing is in shambles due to the 5v5 model, and simply saying, “I like it because I like it” isn’t really a good reason.
@@TheCosmicSpace_ I just play the game and have fun idk. Some stuff is dumb sometimes but it's just a game. I could care less about the balance it's just the way the game works and I just play it. There's always going to be meta characters and some are going to be better than others but I don't need to cry about it all the time. I still have a lot of memories of people having a lot of the same complaints and a lot of talking about balancing during 6v6. It doesn't really matter what it is cause they already fucked up balancing in 6v6, they're messing up balancing in 5v5 and it's not like it's going to be any better if they go back to 6v6. There's no competitive game with perfect balance and people will always complain about something. I think you should just have fun with the game that's there instead of bitching on the internet for 2 years asking the company for something that they have no intention of ever doing.
@@KhaiShinryu that's because its *is* the same game. they just took a role slot from tank. The pve mode was going to be 5v5 because that's the usual dungeon group size in games (usually 1tank/3dps/1healer) and they most likely didn't want a difference between the "main" game being 6v6 but the pve/story being 5v5 so they made the main 5v5, but did absolutely none of the deep system work needed to make 5v5 work. that's why all the roles are shit to play as. none of them were meant for 5v5, hell, even the new heroes added don't all seem built for 5v5 (Junker queen, Illari, lifeweaver as a few) imo. Junker would be amazing with a 2nd tank to help her, and Lifeweaver was def meant to be the "main healer" sub in so the other support could pick/play someone more offensive and not have to worry about healing as much. OW2's "engine work" was literally just the upgrades to the bots in the pve modes they (shouldn't've) charged for and the few event pve modes they've done. *That's* what the upgrades were to Overwatch's engine, nothing to do with the pvp mode or 5v5/6v6. It was the tech for bots to do more than just spawn, walking out and die.
I am SO GLAD you made this, this is EXACTLY what I need because people keep telling me that the game is the same as OW1 and I quit half way through even before overwatch 2 came out because I was sad my favorite game of all time was screwed up. Now I have a timeline of all the changes that ruined the game, thank you.
I just started to play this OV2 for about 4 days, and never play OV1. I'm 38yo and due to work nature I can't have PC only macbook . So far this is the only game playable on my mac. Makes me excited to go home and play. feels like being a teen again. Watching this video, I guess I'm a little bit late to join the fun.
i am a specialist in wrecking ball, not just becuase i want, but more because i need be a specialist with this hero. He is my favorite hero and is my main for 6 years. I have almost 300 hours with him i get master 1 and top 500 with this hero. Play with Hammond today is a mix of sentiments for me because i have the respect sometimes when my teammates see me doing crazy stuff and actually carring them (because if i dont do this i am a diff tank) but the majority of time is just a awful experience. Get conuter by all types off boop or cc, hardcounter by sombra, hog and cass, my teammates how donsent want to adapt your playstyle or dosent understantd how to play with me and even when i get value i dont feel this value... Its miserable become a specialist because even with all my effort is not enogh... When i can easily pick mauga and become imortal and lazy. I tired... I share the same felling of you brother. Be a tank main is be a suffering main. We are a masoquist, who donsent like pain....
Personally I've never been a huge fan of Ball since he came out but even I can recognize that Ball in OW1 had far more interesting and creative playstyles. Soft counters still exist but good players could work around them or work with the team to divide the attention, even if you didn't completely synergize. Ball in OW2, if your team isn't snowballing and keeping that momentum, it feels like Ball is doomed to just sit in front of all the damage now as if he is Mauga or Orisa and that just isn't fun.
I remember getting overwatch for christmas when i was younger, started playing comp in season 9. i remember how much fun it used to be learning new things i could with characters and how to play a tough match-up, but now its just a game of rock, paper, scissors. The fun i used to have just isn't there anymore, and its sad to see.
They cant, simply because they damn well KNOW that not a SOUL would be willing to touch 5v5 with a thirty foot pole when we’d have the option to play the game the right way, in 6v6
My opinion is that if Blizzard acknowledges 6v6 at all, they're pretty much admitting defeat with OW2 and it seems like they had a very bad track record of not admitting when they are wrong.
I definitely agree with you. I started playing in S2 with OW being my first ever DPS (and 2nd ever overall game!) and I was HOOKED. I vividly recall my friend and I travelling an hour to buy the game, and both playing it on our laptops at barely 20fps. We played day and night and became very, very close friends. I eventually quit in S13 due to the state of the game. I JUST picked the game back up a couple weeks ago to play Kiriko but I'm already fed up with the current state of the game. I miss the old OW. I miss all the memories my friend and I made, and I miss the friends we made in the game. It'll never be the same. RIP OW1.
I am a main tank enjoyer. I hit top 500 multiple times with D.Va and Reinhardt. Ive peaked as high as Top 30 NA with D.Va. What made me quit the game was one of my best friends from school asking me during a game "George, why are you so negative all the time" and I honestly sat back and thought about it. The role I fell in love with and sank hundreds on hours into was completely changed and different. On top of that, everyone in the game has a greenlight to blame their tanks for a loss. I am not kidding you when I say every other game I was getting flamed by my own teammates because "TANK DIFF LOL" I kept trying to trick myself into enjoying it and thinking I was having fun. I wasnt and when my homie said that, I havent touched the game since. There are too many great games that are peaking right now to settle for OW. Simple as that.
With Blizzard starting to rethink the move to 5v5 in Overwatch 2, and players still trying to adjust, there are a few things that need to be said: 5v5 Just Doesn't Work: Switching from 6v6 to 5v5 and making the tank role a solo gig never really made sense. The reasoning better visibility or shorter queue times feels like a weak trade-off. Overwatch was always about teamplay and being competitive. Now, in Overwatch 2, it feels like the whole game depends on what the tank does. As a DPS or healer, you're almost forced to rely too much on the tank. The Old Synergy is Gone: In Overwatch 1, combining ultimates to capture a point or push the payload felt incredibly rewarding. Now, it’s more about running and gunning with less strategy involved. It’s just “press W and left-click” without much thought behind it. Blaming 6v6 for Meta Issues is Shortsighted: People argue that 6v6 was bad because of the double shield or G.O.A.T. metas, but that’s missing the bigger picture. Those metas came about due to specific hero designs like Brigitte and Baptiste like mentioned in the vid. If Blizzard had balanced the game differently, those metas wouldn’t have been so dominant. Losing OG Players wasn't Worth It: If the goal was to reduce queue times and bring in new players, downgrading the game wasn't the way to go. Instead, it's just pushed away a lot of the original Overwatch players who loved the 6v6 format. To sum it up, Overwatch 1 in its prime was one of the best tactical FPS games out there. The problem isn’t with 6v6-it's with the decisions Blizzard made along the way. Bringing back 6v6 could help get Overwatch back on track, if not to the top, then at least in the right direction. i have been playing ow since beta as well, maining genji, tracer hanzo, but comparing the good old days to now...playing dps, felt like u are really contributing and actually dealing dmg. now dps just feels like throwing cocktail sticks on to tanks
I quit at the end of season 9. I just wanted my mythic skin and it was a long slog to get it. Now I just keep an eye on how the game is doing, I WANT to come back but it has let me down too many times for me to come back. I 100% agree with all of your points and my advice is do the same thing I did. Blizzard is too stubborn to change the game if it still has a semi-healthy player base.
You don’t care about the game you just want the cosmetics. Why should the game cater to you at all? Why is your opinion even worth considering? You don’t give a shit about the gameplay you just want to watch it like some cringe anime shit
I usually don't care for cosmetics but I love the concept of mirrored universes in media so much that I was actually excited and bought the battlepass. I was really hoping that the season would be good too, but I also really struggled to bring myself to finish it. I don't think the game will struggle with new player numbers overall because it is free-to-play but it's whether or not the quality of the experience will keep them invested
The whole part of devs focusing and listening to the competitive side of a game and changing the whole game around it is something a lot of other games can sadly speak to. Casuals and competitive players of any multiplayer game can talk about the same game yet sounds like they're talking about two completely different games, but once a game starts going down the esports route only the comp players will have a real voice and everyone else has to live with the changes to make the comp players happy who arent even a double digit percentages of the player base.
I started playing overwatch like 4 months after its release, and with each passing day, it becomes more obvious that blizzard doesn't want me as a customer anymore I think thats exactly their strategy with ow2, let go of all the players that remember 6v6, non agressive monetization, promises of a story mode, and focus on the new players that came with the f2p, that don't remember any of these things For all the time it was alive, ow1 was my go to online game, i used to main tank, that role is absolute ass in ow2. This and other balance issuses that came with 5v5 basically killed the game for me, everytime i force myself to boot up overwatch, i just feel misreable knowing that this game was once so great, and that the product i paid 40$ was brutally ripped away from my hands
I also believe that by not acknowledging 6v6 as an option, they hope that people will grow tired of the conversation. Unfortunately, this is kind of where I am at this point but I wanted to use this video as an outlet for others who have similar sentiments but feel like their opinions are being dismissed. I was also a tank player for a good chunk of OW1. I loved Reinhardt so much. The dopamine hit when you played well was something no other game gave me. Now, it doesn't matter if I do everything right. One mistake and you get immediately flamed. It's just not fun for me.
I really agree with what you said about the game becoming too accessible at the cost of the player base by dumming down the game and removing a lot of skill expression. A lot of reworks and balance changes are complete misses that don’t fix the problems they’re meant to address. The hog rework neither removed the one-shot everyone was complaining about nor make him playable into matchups like zen or ana, all it did in the grand schemes of it was make it so he can continue healing after being stunned out of it so that you don’t have to be resourceful about using it and making him easier overall. The ball rework is the same, instead of making him somewhat playable into all his cc counters they added a shield sharing mechanic that is counterproductive to his playstyle. I'd also like to expand on your point on people padding their egos with huge stats on the score board that makes them think they're doing more than what's actually the case. The direction the balance seems to be going in is where a lot of nuances are being replaced with numbers and that tricks the player base to believe that the scoreboard tells them how well they are playing. The truth is that a lot of stats are “empty” meaning they don’t contribute to victory in any way shape or form. Take a moira throwing a dmg orb into the enemy team before a team fight, or a soldier shooting the unkillable roadhog instead of squishies for an example, what does it do? Nothing but feeding the enemy supports ult, but instances like that are counted to the score board while actual value that takes skill like a lucio speeding in the team or a doomfist contesting a position and pulling enemy resources does not. All of this is to point out how the game is becomming more braindead to play the further into ow2 we come.
Something I forgot to mention is that since character statlines are so much higher in OW2, you're starting to see averages of 20k damage and healing. Those numbers would have been ridiculous in OW1 but now it's becoming more common. This was an issue in OW1 with the gold medal system as well but for the most part, people understood that getting gold elims with 2 kills isn't really something you should be bragging about. These numbers always lacked context at face value but there should never be a case where you deal 20k damage on average and barely manage to get over 15 kills. I'm just using these numbers as an example but comparatively, you're looking at at least 1k damage per kill. That's insanity. I've had games where I go 26 and 0 and it also is just an empty feeling. It's like trying to break down a brick wall with a regular hammer. It will happen eventually but it certainly isn't fun or engaging. That's what the game has become for me. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
my brother introduced me to overwatch 1 while it was still in beta in 2015. to put into perspective how young i was, i was eight. im SIXTEEN now. i had fun for so many years growing up with this game and it sucks to see how far it’s fallen from its peak.
Left 2 weeks after OW2 released after playing the game for 4 years. This popped on my recommendation, great video. If they ever make it feel like OW1 and I’ll come back. Teamplay and competitive was what really made me stay on OW1.
Apathy is the best word to describe how I feel about the game now. I haven't played since it was released on Steam, and I don't plan on wasting my time on it. The story mode was my main draw to OW2, and also the major reason for why I defended the sequel, the cancellation of the only reason for that 2 in the title was the last straw for me. I looked past the 5v5, I looked past the predatory shop, I looked past the lacking content, I looked past the missing features, all because of the promise of this brand new mode that would expand on the story. All we got instead was an apology that basically said "We wasted our time on this and now you won't get to see any of it."
I dropped Overwatch 1 the moment I realised that the devs had no idea how to design their Heroes in a way that would be fun and rewarding. I used to main Genji at launch. Back then he used to have triple jump when interacting with walls and the ability to launch himself super high into the air by doing perfectly timed angled dash jumps on ledges. Both of these things made the Hero extremely fun to play with a high skill ceiling for those who wanted to master him yet wasn't game breaking. What do the devs decide to do? Remove both movement options of course! Then when they finally nerfed his ultimate by 2 seconds I just lost all interest in playing him. Then there was the infamous Roadhog hook issue. Over a year it took for them to address it, but it took even more patches to make it not infuriating to play against. It also became a massive issue because Blizzard nerfed some of the best tank options for dealing with the hook, so we had a tank that was fully able to one shot practically all the non-tanks on the roster with a single hook+shotgun combo with one of the easiest to land CCs in the game with an insane range. We had to deal with this for years. Not to mention the devs almost never released any balance patches, so things could remain absolutely bonkers broken for months until something more busted came along like a new Hero release. Though, by the time those came out I was already long gone. I tried Overwatch 2 for like two matches when it came out, but I had no plans on staying since I had decided to avoid all of Blizzard's games with the exception for a couple of legacy titles like HotS, StarCraft 1/2, and WarCraft 3 on occasion. OW 2 just felt like basically the same game that made me decide to leave, but a lot less charming than when it launched. As far as I'm concerned, Overwatch as a brand is beyond saving, the same with Blizzard as a whole. The Microsoft acquisition hasn't changed anything in this regard and might have arguably made it worse in some places.
I never did play OW1 as I never gave the game a chance, I started with S1 on OW2 and the moment i really looked at the game I was disappointed at what I had missed out on. Similarly I started with Support and eventually moved to Tank my whole inspiration was watching old and new Zbra clips and I wanted to reach a level on par with him with Doomfist. The game was fun but over the season it just lost it's charm. You dont have to be good, skilled or even have any level of game sense, you just shut off your brain hold W and Mouse1 and then Rage post or in extreme situation rage hack cause blizzard wont do anything. the game is a glorified cash grab and my honest to god opinion was making it F2P along with 5v5 were some of the worst decisions blizzard could've ever made
Yeah as someone who’s played original overwatch. This isn’t true, you can’t win just like that, the game still needs skill and strategy. No offence but I think that’s a bronze take.don’t get me wrong I like 6v6 more but the reasons why it’s better aren’t just “the game doesn’t require skill anymore”. it’s not true. If it were you’d be plat or higher

@@SchmelvinMoyville You’ve been in my comment section for a few hours now. Are you ok.
That doesn’t even scratch the surface because role passives add another layer that ow1 didn’t have…
I just appreciate someone else with a platform saying similar things that some of us in places like Reddit in the community are saying.
Man that's a really good point
Very few games at all nowadays keep you in a “lobby” if you will with other players there are far less opportunities to speak to and connect to randoms
Cards were also a decent way to tell who was the carry in the lobby. Even if I saw a mercy with a 80% kill percentage I was blown back a bit. Like damn she really was that annoying. Scoreboard is a different way to tell. However things like damage block isn't the same as when you saw that card post lobby.
You can't talk shit anymore without getting banned.
That hits hard. I loved that, can't believe I forgot about it. I'd gladly vote for an enemy that kicked my ass, like a handshake. No invitation for community or positivity anymore :( just cold, dead menus that occasionally misalign text -_-

“Fuck you blizzard” truly someone who has nothing else in their life. Gotta be personally mad at a company that has no idea you exist. Genuinely pathetic. Get help dude.
so hard to quantify but the game just feels empty
when the game is truly just a soulless cash grab at its core, it flows outward to affect everything. nearly everyone playing is either a newbie who's not yet aware of the issues, or a veteran who can't break their addiction and is dead inside

The rewriting history to make 6v6 the villain is wild. I appreciate your takes on this.
I first played overwatch during its last year when the game was at its “lowest point”.
I’m gonna be honest, I had more fun in overwatch’s last year than I’ve ever had with overwatch 2
This is so true. I also started in its graveyard state. Still way more fun than ow2
@@soggybread749not only that but alot of the 5v5ers overestimate the strength of the arguments they have because ALOT of people don't care about the format as long as its fun combine that with the fact that alot of people who only played 5v5 are willing to try 6v6 because they never have or it'll be new to them
Who cares
So you don’t actually like the game, you just like cartoons.

Same here. The gaslighting is part of why I’ve been disgusted with it too.
Clowns.

Yeahhh..its like you basically have to sweat
Back then you could actually express your skill and be proud of yourself rather than being annoyed that your reaction time with your kiri suzu is to slow resulting in a lost fight for you xD
Thanks for the video, as I said, this marks a very very good summary of the current state. have an awesome day!
XD
I am writing this right after a few games of Overwatch with my stack and holy moly, the power creep single tank is so broing to play against, no matter what support I play xD. Either I have to heal bot with kiri or I have to heal bot with Ana (what I personally pref because I can have at least some impact with the anti nade and it feels a lot less brain afk like)
have a great time!
@@Deusagaactually now that you say it, i just didnt miss out on it. i remember the first new hero that came to the game after I started was moria
and when i remember correctly, moria came before orisa etc (even tho moria was quite special as well..
Ive consistently felt like the game is just made easier and easier, but for the most part i was in and around people who started the game on OW2 so I was never sure if i was just being an elitist gatekeeper or blinded by nostalgia or whatever else they will make you out to be, but it is refreshing to hear all your opinions that i wholeheartedly agree with.
its crazy how many og overwatch players are quitting. and obviously the devs still arent waking up
Because the numbers are as high as ever
@@msm1984_ this. Wether you like it or not, more people are playing this game month after month. So for blizzard, og players could just leave, this new game is not made for them. If they want to stay good, if not, you could do another one of the 1000 videos like this around youtube.
They don't care about og players. They want new players especially those with loads of money.
Haven't touched Ranked in like a month and I feel much better for it.
What is the point of a bot in this game?

Not to mention every update we've got in Overwatch 2 was a, "You had me, then you lost me."
Sounds like the current state of the world in general lmao.
As a Paladins player... Overwatch deserved better. Overwatch 1 was awesome, and it's sad to see how far it's fallen.
That pine clip hit hard brother. You are exactly right, 6v6 is the way, and they completely ruined it.
14:18 big facts
OW2 will be fun the day Doom bugs get fixed.
This is quite possibly the best-articulated video about this game’s root problems I’ve watched
Nobody is reading all this
Bro I agree
That hot take doesnt even seem bad, blizzard flat out made the game easier to play.
And I hate it
Yea and they literally gave everyone bigger health pools instead of nerfing supports, because they're so afraid of public backlash to nerfs (as if they're any strangers to far worse backlash lmao)
Some even says Overwatch 2 doesn't have that Blizzard magic in it like its predecessor
God I hope one day some legends set up private servers of OW1. I miss it so much and will never forgive Blizz for completely deleting it
I pray for the day we see 6v6 again i cant even play without dying inside. Thanks for the great video
Going to be honest here...theres so much wrong with the game that wont even fix it. If they let 5v5 last this long, then you can be sure that they would just ruin 6v6 again.
Maybe play another game or do anything else in general?
Thank you for watching and sharing your opinion. Even if it's just an arcade mode, I wish they would at least acknowledge it.
As a fellow mediocre Overwatch Boomer, it's so cathartic to have a fine point put on thoughts that have been sitting at the back of my head for months. Thanks for making this video and getting this perspective out there.
A FELLOW WARRIOR OF LIGHT DETECTED.
I really think Flats should react to this. It would be interesting to see what he things since I think he would agree with most of this.
blizzard compeltely sabitaged overwatch, they hate it the franchise, they hate the characters, the story, the lore, they only want skins to sell, ow had infinite potential, now have nothing
You're spitting nothing but facts in this video.
On a lighter note, if I played like you I would also give up
I liked 6v6, especially as an off-tank main, but I don't really care whether they go back or stick with 5v5.
E.g., every 50 wins, 100, etc you could get comp-exclusive:
- Death stamps
- Kill effects
- Weapon skins
The content of the game felt ok this season. Venture and Mirrorwatch felt fun, but I'd appreciate some transparency on big-picture things they're working on, like a clans or tournament system. Atm there's nothing to really look forward to.
Dude I saw you on Samitos channel crazy how much your video blew up it was so well made wish you the best
😮, I thought they did this to attract the COD crowd.
Could be the case, but OW1 had the most players on console aswell and it was fine and if they wanted to make it easier for console they could just increase aim assist no?

Those concluding thoughts... took the words right from my mouth
I distinctly remember playing my very first match in OW2 and thinking "this feels like a beta for OW1" lol
Right now it's a conflated mess that only ever results in, at best, empty victories and ego-indulging potgs, or at worst, violent frustration.
the background gameplay isn't really cheeks, its actually pretty good, its just you only feel like your doing nothing because thats what Tank is now
Hahah, I appreciate the kind words. I'm just someone who thinks that no matter how well I play, there's always something I could have done better.

To further back this idea up, that NDA Rivals streamers had to sign, the one that said "no negative talk" well it also had a very line as well that stated "no comparisons to other hero shooters, their game designs or their characters/abilities"
So, I dunno man.
Such a beautiful memory ❤
Great video!!
I don't think we should go back to 6v6 and I'm a tank player who's been playing since 2017
@@gamoxu
Honestly, could you explain your reasonings, because telling me you’re a tank main since “17” isn’t really an explanation.
I just miss my lootboxes man :(
great vid bro.
Don’t be so dramatic it’s a game
Thank you for watching. I miss the old game as well but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
Watching this after 6v6 got announced fr
Great video. I love your take and agree with everything you said. I used to love the game and now it feels so bored playing it now
I just started to play this OV2 for about 4 days, and never play OV1.
The fun i used to have just isn't there anymore, and its sad to see.
cant blizzard just make a 6v6 gamemode and we cann all look how that goes?
They cant, simply because they damn well KNOW that not a SOUL would be willing to touch 5v5 with a thirty foot pole when we’d have the option to play the game the right way, in 6v6
They would need to balance heros for it. 5v5 tanks in a 6v6 mode would be way too much. 6v6 is definitely the only thing though that saves this game
@@FittieVEVO Just a couple of tweaks, and it's done, I assure you it's very easy.
@@deadlyrobot5179I like 6v6, but nothing is ever that easy
RIP OW1.
Overwatch 2 critique/rant videos have been on the rise lately. Glad everyones finally waking up.
Wow... that pine clip. Forgot how hype owl was back in the day
I am a main tank enjoyer.
Or maybe it’s bc u no life tf outta the game and need to go outside
With Blizzard starting to rethink the move to 5v5 in Overwatch 2, and players still trying to adjust, there are a few things that need to be said:
5v5 Just Doesn't Work: Switching from 6v6 to 5v5 and making the tank role a solo gig never really made sense.
Happy for you. There are plenty of other games out there that are actually worth playing.
What they should've done was just make 7v7, 3 dps per team, then ladder queue would've been fine.
Glad to have you join the rest of the world
I started playing overwatch like 4 months after its release, and with each passing day, it becomes more obvious that blizzard doesn't want me as a customer anymore
I think thats exactly their strategy with ow2, let go of all the players that remember 6v6, non agressive monetization, promises of a story mode, and focus on the new players that came with the f2p, that don't remember any of these things
For all the time it was alive, ow1 was my go to online game, i used to main tank, that role is absolute ass in ow2.
Recolorwatch 2 is a game of all times
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
my brother introduced me to overwatch 1 while it was still in beta in 2015. to put into perspective how young i was, i was eight. im SIXTEEN now. i had fun for so many years growing up with this game and it sucks to see how far it’s fallen from its peak.
blizzard pls bring back 6v6 and the mmo / moba inspired gameplay
The change from 6v6 wasn’t to “balance overpowered tanks” it was to reduce queue times…
The last patch killed it for me, either 6v6 returns or the game is dead, these tank changes are insane
